Celebrate Earth Day with New Trash Panic Screens and Details!

Posted by Josh Miller // U.S. Producer

Happy Earth Day 2009! I’m Josh Miller, the US Producer of the upcoming PS3 PSN downloadable exclusive, Trash Panic.

In celebration of Earth Day 2009, I wanted to talk to you about Trash Panic and give you the low-down on what to be excited about this Spring. As I’m sure you heard, we are giving new meaning to waste management with a brand new puzzle game that combines strategy and action with well…garbage. Here, players are tasked with having to compact as much garbage into a trash can before it overflows AND in the most eco-friendly way as much as possible!

Trash Panic definitely provides a new take on gaming while making players more aware of environmentally friendly ways to dispose of waste. Check it out:

Throughout each stage, random trash items will be delivered to players who will need to manipulate the speed and direction they fall using the DualShock 3 controller. The trash can will quickly reach full capacity unless the trash is broken down or dealt with by strategically using various elements given throughout each stage. Items will continue to be dropped until the player successfully compacts a certain number of items or ends up with an overflowing trash can. At the end of each stage, each player will be rated by how “eco-friendly” or “ego-friendly” each stage was completed. The more “eco-friendly,” the higher the rating.

And, with with a recording option embedded in the game, and the capability to send your video directly to YouTube via your PS3, Trash Panic also allows players to show off their gaming session and strategies with the rest of the world through one of the biggest social networking sites!

Don’t want to play solo? No problem. Trash Panic supports one to two players locally using a split screen to help solve the “Who’s got better game?” question. Online learderboards and trophies? Of course!

Continue to check back here for updates on Trash Panic! Happy Earth Day!

Wasn’t this Gombiako at TGS? It’s excellent to see you guys localizing games for everyone. Good choice! :D

So…. Whats the Point of the game? You just pack a trash can?

I mean Tetris, you clear lines ( which I’m 100% sure what game this was born from ) But in this all you do is max out your trash can and blow it up or pack it into a green bag?

Better be $2.99. No way I’m paying $5+ If it had 45 Trophies than $15.

>> End of May / early June

HOW ABOUT NEXT WEEK!?

No, serious: I’ve been wanting to play this since NeoGAF hasn’t stopped talking about in their PS store update threads since it hit Hong Kong/Japan. It looks like a blast, but I REALLY HOPE SCEA gets a demo cut for it before that May/June date.

SCEA/Sony as a whole needs to get on the ball and MANDATE demos for PSN games like Microsoft has done for XBLA. MUST. It’s annoying to blind purchase and while enjoying a game, feel it isn’t worth the price (like Everyday Shooter *cough*).

Still, good to see this is announced for the US, even if it is a month or so away. *sigh*

Anyway, this game looks interesting.

Mr. Miller,

Will this game have custom soundtrax? If not, will it receive a patch to add custom soundtrax?

IIIKAGEIII  |  April 22nd, 2009 at 8:51 pm

i would rather celebrate earth day for free.

I noticed some kind of bacteria in a Japanese trailer for this game. Will that count as eco-friendly (natural bacteria through composting) or ego-friendly (spread of disease)?

What you saw is the decomposition ball. Using it counts towards an eco-friendly rating. The ball works in conjunction with water and starts to decompose all the trash around it.

Well I hope they give you lots of points for Cans, steel and glass, because in the real world those are the only things worth recycling. Everything else costs more money to recycle then it does to make it new, AND It creates MORE POLLUTION then it would being thrown in the ground.

If you really want to help the earth quit believing in the Marketing Lie of Global warming and help the earth by saving our WETLANDS ! and our Water ways !. Plus tell everyone to quit Flushing their medication into our waters. It hurting Fish, animals and even us !!! Thats the most important thing you can do for us all on Earth Day !

That idea about different compositions sounds very interesting. I would love to get this. Any idea if it will reach the UK/EU?

64

LeLoT3  |  April 23rd, 2009 at 4:25 am

Muito interessante!

Se for de U$9,90 para menos, eu compro!

65

Kenshin71  |  April 23rd, 2009 at 5:58 am

Will get this but also want to know what the story is with Demon’s Souls being released in the US/EU. Josh, can you ask around? The English language import version seems to be a sleeper hit with PS3 owners and just got 9/10 on Eurogamer. Hope Sony snap this up as publisher for a local release in 2009.

XgargunoX  |  April 23rd, 2009 at 5:59 am

what kind of things would you have to do to earn trophies?

67

Dardantuan  |  April 23rd, 2009 at 6:36 am

So, how reliant is the game on Sixaxis control? If it is just a quick shake here and there I am fine with that. I am not at all a big fan of constant controller rotating and shaking. I did not at all like the controller shaking in Rag Doll Kung Fu, and vowed it to be the last Sixaxis reliant game I buy before I try.

Is there an option to turn off sixaxix control?

The game looks good, I’m hoping for not that much sixaxis interference!

The only Sixaxis control is shaking the controller. When you do this, the trash can shakes and re-adjusts the trash in the can.

tsukasa1288  |  April 23rd, 2009 at 6:49 am

@Dardantuan
I got the game off off Japanese PSN store, all I can tell you use the sixaxis for is to shake the trash can to make the garbage fall lower into the can after its settled.

dimassss_88  |  April 23rd, 2009 at 7:02 am

What about version for PSP? Because i think it only for PS3

70

bdavid81  |  April 23rd, 2009 at 7:03 am

Looks intriguing. I’ll try out the demo before I purchase it though.

Sony: Be a little more like Microsoft in the sense of releasing demo’s for all PSN games. That’s one part of XBLA that I absolutely love.

usin420  |  April 23rd, 2009 at 8:26 am

Looks like a first day purchase to me. Keep on bringing these unique titles to us Sony, we eat ‘em up like birthday cake.

73

Onna76_NL  |  April 23rd, 2009 at 9:13 am

Is this game gonna hit simultaneous in Europe? And what about the Euro price?

74

Onna76_NL  |  April 23rd, 2009 at 9:14 am

@WindedHero, where Crystal Defenders is? Oh I tell you… its in the US store since Monday… on the Wii.

77

Dardantuan  |  April 23rd, 2009 at 10:05 am

glad to hear about the sixaxis controls. Sounds like they are used in a similar fashion as in Piyotama? If that’s the case, count me in.

78

Mazyx  |  April 23rd, 2009 at 10:11 am

It’s only 4.99? Holy crap. I though it’d be 10-15.
I’ll buy this the second it is released.

79

CmdrSinclair  |  April 23rd, 2009 at 10:24 am

This is gonna be 4.99? Awesome, I’m all over this. Looks like good fun. Been hoping this was coming since I heard about the Japan release…
