Hello, I just wanted to provide everyone with a head’s up that the next PLAYSTATION 3 system software update (v.2.76) will be coming soon. This is a minor update that improves the playback quality of some PS3 format software.

MobileTone, nice speculation. I have one too, Sony usually releases a small update in preparation for a bigger announced update, which coincidentally happens near or around a major conference, like E3.

also i just got the infamous demo… i thought this game would suck but it doesn’t
its really good, the gameplay is what makes it good. think of a next gen gta but with actual fun gameplay mechanics.
To ERIC LEMPEL: when are you going to post the system update to this website? I updated my firmware, unfortunately to v2.76, then started a HDD upgrade. Now it says that I need to insert any media containing v2.76 or later before the HDD will work. I need you to post this to the playstation website NOW.

last i checked sony does not have to provide us with firmware updates at all and they certainly are not required to give us a bunch of new features with the firmware updates they do release

i suppose this destroys all hope of having a firmware update at E3 for voice chat, because its so close by, and sony does updates less frequently now :(

Will you ever fix h.264 @ 60fps playback? When I put a clip running at 60fps I got desynched.

What would absolutely boost the PS3 right now is a Spotify client. :) Streaming over UPnP _works_ but it would be far superior to have a native client that can be controlled either with the remote or a PSP.
just updated my ps3 having trouble connecting killzone 2 onlime keeps saying timed out anybody having same problem
All I want to do is to listen to my music from the PS3 hard drive ANYWHERE on the console, in-game, browsing the PSN store and whilst in Home. In-game access to my music is what I really want to see though. Please can you refrain from giving this to developers because only a small number of games are being supported for custom soundtracks. Although this is better than none at all, I still want to be able to access my music in all my games.
Please can you look into this in the next or a future firmware update? You could develop a mini music player in-game to make this happen. Please Sony, this would be the best update EVER.

i can’t go online in killzone 2 after the firmware update…
Could you pelase add AD2P as an audio out feature.
So i can use the bluetooth heaphones to play games,watch movies or listen to music.
Heck even my NOKIA N95 does it.
should put custom avatars and different moving back grounds. ohhh and all games able to play music and video chat when you even launch a game it don’t close the chat or turn off the music that wud be sickk

SURYU – The PS3 is not targeted toward ‘lil kids’, nor are 99% of the [retail] games. If a child sees or hears something they shouldn’t on PSN/Home/in-game it is their parents’ responsibility, not Sony’s, to keep it from happening to their child again. Keep them off of it!
The chat censorship needs to be lifted. In most cases it’s utterly ridiculous. But I can see how Sony took it upon themselves because people think one gaming console is no different than another, and on top of that most parents don’t even monitor their children like they should anyway. I am a parent and my children will not be exposed to these things until we feel it is appropriate. Parents are the first line of protection and many parents don’t hold themselves accountable. That’s why these types of things have to be implemented by the maker, because many, many parents complain too much and don’t do anything to fix the problem at home themselves. Most parents cater too much to their kids, not even knowing what they’re getting into.
Oh, and I updated and it messed mine up too. Home won’t initiate but I haven’t tested any games. Life with Playstation still works and trophies are loading faster though.

To everyone with KZ2 problems – I did the update and then played KZ2 online immediately with no problem at all – the game was as populated as any other time so any problems must have been isolated…

lets give us all another update only for our PS3’s to get mucked up. Great, well done Sony. Couldn’t it wait till the next major one?
Here is my list of the BIG things we need for the PS3:
1. Access to and ability tom play our music files in-game, on the Playstation Store and in Home.
2. Cross game chat and invites system.
Anything else can wait. These features above are what we are all requesting the most. Please Sony can we have these features (especially in-game music) for the next update.
We already have cross game invites, and music in game is up to the developer.

I wish for an update that will wash my socks without losing them into sock universe. That would be nice.
Why even bother with such an incremental update? Considering that even the smallest update on PS3 is a chore (between slow download, install, reboot) they should wait until the update has enough content to make it worth our trouble.
Pretty incredible that universal/cross-game voicechat isn’t available. Sony should just admit that this is not possible for the entire game library because they didn’t have the foresight to plan for it, so the comination of hardware architecture and early game release SDK’s (larger mandatory set asides which would require publishers/developers to go back and make major patches to all their releases) now prevent this from ever happening.

I can’t play any of my games online after this update. Friends are not showing up on my friends list either.
