Killzone 2 “Flash and Thunder” Pack Arriving on June 11

Killzone 2 fans!

As we hinted way back at GDC, the next Killzone 2 DLC goes “retro” with the release of the “Flash and Thunder” pack arriving after E3. Here’s a sneak peek as to what you can expect.

Guerrilla Games takes us back on a nostalgic journey with fan favorites from the first Killzone: Beach Head and Southern Hills. Both levels have been completely re-envisioned with the Killzone 2 engine and technology.

In Beach Head, the Helghast land on the sandy Vektan beaches forcing the ISA to defend their stronghold. Torrential rain and gale-force winds batter the landscape, with the water-filled craters supplying only limited cover. This harsh terrain requires you to keep your “head on a swivel” as enemies lurk around every corner.

Killzone 2 - Beach Head

Southern Hills takes the battle to a central Helghast base camp located on a hilltop. This version has been beefed up considerably over the original Killzone counterpart, with smaller structures offering plenty of hiding places that lend itself well to close quarters combat and long range sniping. Take cover when you hear alarms going off, as there might be a radioactive surprise headed your way.

Killzone 2 - Southern Hills

This pack will be available on the PlayStation Network on June 11th for $5.99. Also, a new Killzone 2 patch is coming next week, so stay tuned to the Blog for more details.

Map packs for all games are too expensive, 5.99 should have been the cost of all four maps, if I’m being entirely honest. These are even less worth the price being remakes of old maps.

Love the game, love the online, don’t like the costs.

I like the continued support of Guerrilla games! I REALLY Hope to see local and online co-op DLC in the nearby future. ~

Love the idea of playing Bodycount in the rain, guys. Love Killzone 2, keep up the good work!

PS: I think the controls are fine.

Hong Kong version? why?

+ Maurisio on May 20th, 2009 at 4:07 pm said:

5.99? the other two maps were not worth it, and i don’t think this will be worth it. I am not wasting money for dlc that should be free or at least affordable i regret the first maps for this and the ones for Resistance 2 even though i like the games.

+ The3DGalaxian on May 20th, 2009 at 4:13 pm said:

I want more maps but I agree with everyone who says that they’re too pricey. I mean technically it’s just over half the cod WaW pack 1 but that has 4 (if you include the zombie thing) maps. I guess if you count it as 3 then this is better value, but I think overall I want DLC to be a quick no brainer purchase for maybe £1 or £2. Plus if you do that more people will buy them and I will have more people to play with online and more chance of finding a game. But anyway I’m still interested in new maps to keep me interested. wasteland bullet looks fantastic but really when it comes to gameplay it’s not so great. But Vektor cruiser is my favourite of all the maps on the disc and DLC so far.

+ JoeDuke4 on May 20th, 2009 at 4:13 pm said:

Awesome, although they should really release some free stuff.

+ ExPresident on May 20th, 2009 at 4:22 pm said:

I appreciate the streaming updates with the map packs but this price is a little steep. Seriously, two maps at $3 a piece? C’mon Sony. I will be pondering this for a while before I make my decision on whether to purchase it or not. Its definately no longer an impulse buy.

+ Spathis on May 20th, 2009 at 4:26 pm said:

Heres one thing for the Guerrilla Games marketing team to consider.

The Resistance 2 Map pack is 5.99USD on the US store, you get 3 maps.

The Resistance 2 map pack is 8.45AUD on the Australian PS Store, for the same 3 maps.

The Killzone 2 Titanium and Steel map pack is 5.99USD on the US PS Store for 2 Maps!

The Killzone 2 Titanium and Steel map pack is $9.95AUD for 2 MAPS!

Seriously WTF GG? 5 bucks a map are friken kidding me? No wonder no one plays them.

5.99USD through the currency converter is almost $8AUD.

If Insomniac Games can get the pricing right, why can’t you? And they are offering one more map!

Seriously get your act together for the Australian PlayStation Store.

That’s some good PC elitist butthurt right there. You act as if parting with $11 is somehow the hardest thing you’ll ever do next to burying your mother. Get over yourself. Either pay for it, or shut up. Even to believe for a second that it’s Guerilla Games determining the price for DLC and not SCE makes you out for the fool you are.

Cry moar.

+ Vagrant_1 on May 20th, 2009 at 4:38 pm said:

cost too much for 2 maps just like the first pack released jeez guys come on

+ Enigma777 on May 20th, 2009 at 4:41 pm said:

I wish you guys had a 2 pack for $10 deal… That way more people would get it. I was playing on Vekta Cruiser last night and there was only a couple of games running and none were full

+ mastrofallz on May 20th, 2009 at 4:47 pm said:

You guys do realize the only reason why these maps are so expensive, is because of the amount of data, like textures, graphical feature, etc., are HUGE?

+ Vengeful-Chaos on May 20th, 2009 at 4:55 pm said:

11.98 for 4 maps plus the 60 I already spent on the game about 4 months ago….no thanks.

+ Andrefpvs on May 20th, 2009 at 5:01 pm said:

That’s awesome guys! Just please don’t slap us another 5.99 price ta… oh snap! Too late!

+ Ghost_Shrimp on May 20th, 2009 at 5:02 pm said:

Damn that is pretty expensive for a couple maps. I wish we could get an expansion or booster instead where you get a mission pack, some mp maps, some new weapons, etc for around $10 bucks.

I hate map packs.

+ Gringo234 on May 20th, 2009 at 5:14 pm said:

Like the first one this one is a day one.

+ Irishmandkg on May 20th, 2009 at 5:15 pm said:

I am a little worried about how they are portraying beach head, making it dark could make it seem like a completely different map. We need more retro maps such as canyon and creek and park..those are all fan favorites, especially park.

+ gmoney0505 on May 20th, 2009 at 5:27 pm said:

Great another map pack. Surely will be picking this up.

I would like to know when will there be a Killzone 2 Home Space? Will there be game launching in it?

i cant wait!

+ Jenovah on May 20th, 2009 at 5:28 pm said:

I bought the first map pack, I’ll be passing on this. It’d be nice if you offered a free one up to people who didn’t trade the game in :/

+ megaman069 on May 20th, 2009 at 5:56 pm said:

Too expensive Sony, map pack should be free anyway, as it is, it only divide the community instead of boosting it. I can’t play the new Resistance 2 maps now, nobody plays them, it’s a pain in the neck to play the first KZ2’s map. It will only get worse once this one is released.

And 6$ is way too much for only 2 maps. Especially if they release new maps every months.

+ Arcturian on May 20th, 2009 at 6:08 pm said:

They’re really sticking with the stupidly high prices, huh?

+ vanwinkle on May 20th, 2009 at 6:32 pm said:

Wow, it’s sure costing a lot to keep up with this game. I mean three months since release and we’ve already had to spend 12 bucks for four maps.

+ jhad on May 20th, 2009 at 6:36 pm said:

This this is totally going to roooccckkk

+ K6U1R5D on May 20th, 2009 at 6:36 pm said:

hmmmm nice what will the patch change this time? I hope GG fixes the death delay problem and the auto aim needs to be fixed ASAP because it honestly sucks at this point! Killzone2 is a awesome game please don’t let little problems like these ruin the fun because it’s doing its job so far by frustrating me.

+ RozeEagle on May 20th, 2009 at 6:37 pm said:

Hey, firstly I would like to thank you for paying so much attention to Killzone 2. I have a question however: Can we expect a DLC bundle of some sort in the future or at least a price cut? Maybe Flash and Thunder+Steel and Titanuim bundle=$6.99?

+ liketoski on May 20th, 2009 at 6:51 pm said:

Yes! Finally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

+ digplans on May 20th, 2009 at 6:53 pm said:

Mmm, music to my ears. This DLC pack looks promising, and sooo beautiful.

I have one question, Mr. TJ Consunji: are there still plans in implementing vehicles for the online Killzone experience? If so, when?

+ Mr_Undisclosed on May 20th, 2009 at 7:05 pm said:

I think I speak for pretty much everyone when I say Please stop charging 6 bucks for just 2 maps, its retarded.

+ Mr_Undisclosed on May 20th, 2009 at 7:08 pm said:

Oh and comment 74, its because most developers put more maps in their map packs and charge a reasonable price. They don’t release just 2 maps every couple months.

+ stone25 on May 20th, 2009 at 7:21 pm said:

5.99 is not a bad price. I don’t get the constant complaining. We don’t have to pay 7.99 per month just to be able to play online multiplayer like some other people. And comparing these maps to any other games is ridiculous. These maps are big, have amazing detail, and are just better than any other game can offer. So shell out the 6 bucks, look at it as your xbox live gold membership for the month. Except you get to play better games.

+ I_GooZe_I on May 20th, 2009 at 7:32 pm said:

i dont know why u are all complaining about the price its the standard price and is actually cheaper then the other guys

+ jstev on May 20th, 2009 at 7:37 pm said:

ANY1****Why is it that whenever I play online No one uses these map packs? i’ve been in various online games and i have yet to play with the new map packs. they aren’t all that popular..

+ jstev on May 20th, 2009 at 7:41 pm said:

BTW why isn’t there a Killzone 2 Home Space? A game of this magnitude and only on PS3 should have a home space at launch but yet we have a Warhawk space LOL …srry just venting

+ dameondrako on May 20th, 2009 at 7:42 pm said:

i hope you give us an actual party system…..and a way to know a room is auto factioned or has restricted class/weapons before you get into the room.we waste more time trying to find a good room than playing in one because you have to join it before you can see what the room details are.these things need to be added badly and needed to be added the last patch….it would be more gamer friendly and put a stop to the frustation it brings DAILY!!!!

+ Kenshin71 on May 20th, 2009 at 7:54 pm said:

Can’t wait but GG really need to sort out the starting screen so it’s clear which games have the DLC maps and which don’t. At the moment it’s the luck of the draw unless someone has explicitly stated it in the game name.

+ S-E-G on May 20th, 2009 at 7:58 pm said:

how much longer will you be milking us for maps we should have had from day 1, that could have easyly fit on your blu-ray disc, please hurry with your milking process and then package up the 4 maps all together to complete the milking process, maybe by that time you will be able to milk me for the 4 map bundle deal

+ Akibara12 on May 20th, 2009 at 8:08 pm said:

These are really cool map packs but you guys do need to lower the price down to $4.99. I did enjoy steel and titanium though but it was still kind of pricey for two maps. Are you guys charging additional because of the bandwidth or you guys just felt that the map pack should be $5.99?

+ Akibara12 on May 20th, 2009 at 8:10 pm said:

One more thing!

Do you guys plan on adding more Avatars to the PSN id? If you guys did that would be great.

+ afrosheen on May 20th, 2009 at 8:16 pm said:

Is this the “most beautiful thing we’ve ever made” that GG was talking about before?

+ Arcagenesis on May 20th, 2009 at 8:33 pm said:

I refuse to buy 2 maps for $5.99, the same way I did with the first DLC, I will not support you with those big prices GG!!

I’ll buy something else, I’ll pass on this one.

+ Firelli00 on May 20th, 2009 at 8:42 pm said:

GG and/or Sony, your prices are whack. Do $2.99 for two maps or $4.99 for all four! I will not buy the current map pack or this upcoming map pack unless prices go down.

+ EAgles4ever on May 20th, 2009 at 8:43 pm said:

im telling you this GG, this is my LAST time buying your maps..after this one im done. Unless you lower down the price and actually give us “Retro maps”
