LittleBigPlanet “The Patch” – New Artists and Levels

+ Posted by Mark Valledor // Marketing Manager, SCEA

As you can see from our last few posts, we had a great time collaborating and making fun levels with some great personalities. Filled with inspiration and a little help from us, we managed to get something together for everyone to share, and had a great time doing it. Thanks for all the positive comments and welcoming these folks into the LBP community.

Below are a few more levels created during our tour that you’ll end up seeing on “The Patch”:

LIONEL MILTON
During our trip to New Orleans, we met Lionel Milton. Lionel is a very influential artist in the New Orleans area and is responsible for the event art at the Voodoo Music Experience. Naturally, he wanted to apply his creativity to LBP and here is a sneak peek of what he come up with:

You can also check out more of Lionel’s work here.

INNERPARTYSYSTEM
During the Voodoo Music Experience, we set up several LittleBigPlanet displays in the backstage VIP tent and LBP caught the eye of the members of INNERPARTYSYSTEM. We had a blast talking about gaming in general, and ended up creating a cool little level with several gameplay challenges and used the PlayStation Eye a whole bunch:

Also, check out INNERPARTYSYSTEM on their tour here.

PLANET ILLOGICA
The folks at Planet Illogica hooked us up with some of the coolest and most creative cats in the art world. Their level resembles a gallery and includes artwork from Joe Vaux, Nathan Cabrera, and Destroy & Rebuild Collective.

If you want to learn more about Planet Illogica and their artists, sign up at www.planetillogica.com.

Check back in with us tomorrow to see the full list of levels that are included in ‘the patch’!

Same here, but this web based “patch” stuff is still cool.

I sure wish there was voice chat for when I play with friends, oh wait that could easily be solved by Sony adding Cross Game VOICE Chat. Instead of all this other crap they keep talking about that no one cares about.

I like the upcoming Que Your Levels On the Net function…that’ll be awesome…and give me something PS3 related to do at work!

Part of me kinda likes the idea of this–but still, please also showcase non-celebrity LBP masters!

I’m still kind of iffy on this whole thing with the The Patch. The community that actually takes the time to create their own levels from scratch really should be given a higher spot than ‘special guests.’ (Though from their I go into a rant on people’s obsessions with celebrities and I think it’s best if don’t go there.)

On a sidenote:
People say it all the time: “JUst GiVe uS this AND we won’T complaIN anYmoRe.” Pathetic.

People like Phinnv8 will always have something to complain about, whether it’s in-game music, in-game XMB, cross-game voice-chat (which I honestly think is stupid anyway), in-game photo/video/internet use or whatever other thought drives through their one-way brains. The PS3 of yesteryear is not even a penumbra of itself and so many can’t seem to appreciate that. It’s always ‘more, more, more’ but I don’t see anyone paying for these firmware updates, subscriptions or anything else of the sort. You’re treated better than X-Bots and give so much less. The word “ungrateful” digs sharply into my mind at the moment.

I’m really interested with what ‘the patch’ can do, but perhaps showcasing some of the most talented littlebugminds in the community would be awesome.

Next up on the patch? I suggest levels by David Jaffe or Ted Price from Insomniac :)

that’s a cool idea INNERPARTYSYSTEM had, to use lbp to advertise themselves. I think you guys should try to get the biggest celebrity in the world Jeff Rubenstein next

Agreed with number 1, RATCHET & CLANK, FTW!!!

Great post, though! Keep em coming!

Keep up the LBP promotion! More people need to play this game and if celebrity guests are what it takes, then so be it. I think you guys should advertise this game more.

Although the INNERPARTYSYSTEM level looked kinda lame (compared to the insane amount of awesome levels I’ve seen for this game), props to them for having a go. They sure are an awesome band.

For those that are wanting to see some handpicked community levels instead, you want to check out the MMPicks over at Media Molecule’s official website:
http://www.mediamolecule.com/tag/mmpicks/

Even better when in-game and in your Pod, search the following term:
@LittleXim

This will bring up a “LittleXim” profile that is owned by Media Molecule.
Then check out their Hearted Levels to find a good selection of great community levels, including those featured on the MMPicks.

How do we actually get into “The Patch”? I can’t find a shortcut anywhere on the POD in LittleBigPlanet. Or isn’t there a “The Patch” button, and should we search all the levels up ourselfs?

LBP still is great, Media Molecule! But can you please tell us a bit more about upcoming level packs (which include more Media Molecule-designed levels, such as in the MGS pack)? :)

+ NashTheSlash on May 21st, 2009 at 4:19 pm said:

Those levels are nice, but I can pick a dozen off of the main most-hearted list that are way better.

@Morphweasel

To find “The Patch” levels you will want to search the term:
@LBPOriginals

That’s the PSN name that the levels are being stored under.

Levels aren’t being released until tomorrow though.

Cool, I throw a ton of raves in Toronto in my spare time and we always hook my ps3 to the projector and run LBP on a wall somewhere in the building, it’s almost always the second most popular room in the house. I wish I had the profile space to save all the stuff random people have created.
you guys should sell level space for our LBP profiles, more level space would be a big help to us build bigger and better levels.
that’s what I think.
