You’ve already heard about Monster Hunter coming to the west as Monster Hunter Freedom Unite. If you’re new to the vast world of Monster Hunter, we’ve got some great new things to help you better understand what this game really has to offer.

First, the official demo will be live today (once the PlayStation Store is updated – keep an eye on the PlayStation.Blog) and loaded with brand new monsters. There’s three quests to choose from: Hypnocatrice, Plum Hermitaur, and an Epic Hunting Quest with three monsters to slay. Aside from new monsters, there’s also pre-made characters for each weapon type to choose from. Great Sword, Long Sword, Sword, Dual Blades, Hammer, Hunting Horn, Lance, Gun Lance, Light Bowgun, Heavy Bowgun, and Bow… They’re all there. We’ve crammed as much into the demo as we could. You’ll be hunting in the forest, the desert, and in the swamp.

Monster Hunter just wouldn’t be the same without co-op, so the demo is fully capable of four player ad-hoc co-op! The demo isn’t going to just leave you to fend for yourself if you aren’t playing ad-hoc. If you play single player, you’ll have your choice to bring one of three Felyne Fighters with you. There’s Kota a Melee Fighter, and then there’s Ginger a Bomber, and finally Melody a Support type.

Now that you have a chance to finally hop into MHFU, we have a brand new set of videos coming to teach you some basics about hunting. Check out the first video right here!

There will be 3 more tutorial videos to come soon. You’ll be able to snag these videos online via the PSN so you can take the tips they offer with you on your PSP. In all, there’s going to be nine videos total for you to grab on PSN before the game launches.

And finally, we have one more tool to help you start your hunt: The Encyclopedia Gigantica. It’s focused on the community, and gathering all the knowledge from fans like you in a wiki style. Right now there’s not much in it, and the tools to add information about the in depth details of Monster Hunter will be coming around the E3 timeframe. Once that’s available, you’ll find much information about the world of Monster Hunter, including everything from the basics all the way to pro tips from other hunters who’ve contributed their own experience. Check it out right here!

And remember, Monster Hunter Freedom Unite hits shelves on June 23rd!

Good hunting!

    • Oh heck yea it is! If any of you play the Japanese Ad-Hoc Party Beta, I\’ll be rockin\’ out the demo tomorrow in the Play Against Capcom. See you then!

  • come on shawn, push sony forward to release AdHoc PArty in english. Its okay in japanese, but it would much more comfortable in english ;)

  • Regarding that 7mb monster pic….

…compared to your character that huge dragon/snake hybrid thing looks terrifying.

Wouldn’t wanna bump into that down a dark alley.

  • :) killed hypnocatrice – now i have to got to sleep, gotta work tomorrow!

have a good hunting day people =)

  • Hey guys where is the psn update by that i mean the thing that shows all the content on this website saying new stuff to the store and all

  • I’m not allowed to use AdHoc Party because I’m using Wlan…
which I don’t understand, because I can connect my psp via remoteplay wireless(PS3) AND be online with the PS3 at the same time over Wlan. It works, why not use it in AdHoc Party? :(

  • Finally!!!! Just downloaded it now. I can’t wait to try it out.

  • Will there be faster loading times in this game?

  • so much fun ;)
yum yum yum … gonna play tomorrow via ad-hoc party …
now its late up here in germany …

    gn8 ,have a good hunting ;)

  • Please comment

I Just played the demo and I have to say that if there is not a way to turn the “meowing” off from that cat I will not buy this game.I have not played monster hunter before and love the concept so I thought I would give it a whirl but every five seconds that cat was meowing and it ruined the experience for me.

Shut the cat up and I will buy this game.

  • AvoidTalkingMice

They should really let you play PSP DEMOS and possibly even FULL PSP games from your ps3 via registration of your PSP and remote play connectivity (Just for the purpose of showing you have a PSP). You KNOW they could do it.

  • If the psp can go online, why not just have the game do infrastructure. I have the ad-hoc party thing on my ps3, but haven’t figured it out yet. By reading most of the comments Shawn, I presume that our US monster hunter game will work on the japanese ad hoc party thing??? Is that right? Or do you just mean the japanese game only works on it? Will the demo work on it??

Lastly, bring this to the ps3. Cmon, yah know you want to. HD, surround sound, 50gbs of disc space or digitally distributed. A full wireless controller with 2 analog sticks and rumble. PSN support. Cmon already. The Wii ain’t got nothin on this.

  • The huge dragon in the pic, its not really that big right? You wouldn’t be able to even see what part of the body your lookin at on the psp.

  • you have no idea how excited for this game i am. i have already pre-ordered this game. and i already own two copies of MHP2G w/the bronze monster hunter psp. I LOVE MONSTER HUNTER!!!

i think you guys should definitely do some sort of promotion to get this sold over here for more pre-orders, and you NEED do to some great advertising. put some ads out, let people know how well this game has sold.

please think about making a monster hunter for the PS3 it MHP2G sold 8 million worldwide on a playstation sytem!! we deserve the support.

anyways thanks for making this game and bringing it here for us. and its really not a Phantasy Star copy in my mind. its got much more flesh and meat to it…that i can carve.

  • @SHINSPIKES:
The US Version of Unite will be Wworking with AdHoc Party, like all other Versions of Monster Hunter Freedom do ;)

and Yes, this big Dragon is really that big :)

    @Frazz:
You don’t have to take the Cat with you in the game. Just in the Demo you must… if you play with others you can’t and there ist no meowing :)

  • The monster design is really great! I’ll play MH for sure when I finally get the PSP, waiting for a proce drop in Europe ;]

And what about those giant legs in the middle? Are enemies in this game really THAT big?

  • Make a Monster Hunter for Playstation 3 please :)

  • Looks good to me! I’m Downloading now!

  • Isn’t the release of MH Freedom Unite suppose to be the reason Ad-Hoc party comes out here in the US?

I can’t remember where I read it at.

I am so pumped for this game, but I have no one near me who plays so I’m all alone… guess I’ll try the Japanese Ad-Hoc party version seeing how it’s the only version. *sigh*

  • The encyclopedia is a great idea. Hopefully there is lots of support for it. There is a ton of information out there on MH.

  • is the demo us only? i can’t find the demo on psn :(, i live in england if thats any help.

  • The Demo is US only ;)

    @RenorMirshann:

the legs belong to Shen-Gao Ren, its a Giant Enemy Crab, search for it at youtube^^

  • MH would kill on all systems

  • Sony & Capcom –

I hope you guys advertise this thing. you have a HUGE opportunity here and should do everything you can to capitalize on it.

This is certainly a good start!

Looking forward to the game in June!

  • i’ve been getting emails for two days about this downlaod. I am still unable to download it. Anyone know what’s up??? :-(

  • yeah the fact you can’t play with our East cousins kinda sucks. well with this I might try to get the previous games just to see the difference.

  • Also, demo is great idea. Maybe the people who actually review the game will play the demo and see that the game has more quests than just killing raptors and collecting herbs. I remember reading the IGN review for the original MH and they criticized the game for having lame quests, which irked me quite a bit.

  • As a fan of the franchise since Freedom 1 on PSP, I can say that I’m definitely pumped for Freedom Unite.

Here’s hoping I’m not too rusty, since I’ve been away from Monster Hunter for months now… Might have to easy my way back in by taking down monsters in the training arena, namely YKKs, los and ians.

  • when does the is release
