Killzone 2 “Flash and Thunder” Pack Arriving on June 11

Posted by TJ Consunji // Associate Product Marketing Manager

Killzone 2 fans!

As we hinted way back at GDC, the next Killzone 2 DLC goes “retro” with the release of the “Flash and Thunder” pack arriving after E3. Here’s a sneak peek as to what you can expect.

Guerrilla Games takes us back on a nostalgic journey with fan favorites from the first Killzone: Beach Head and Southern Hills. Both levels have been completely re-envisioned with the Killzone 2 engine and technology.

In Beach Head, the Helghast land on the sandy Vektan beaches forcing the ISA to defend their stronghold. Torrential rain and gale-force winds batter the landscape, with the water-filled craters supplying only limited cover. This harsh terrain requires you to keep your “head on a swivel” as enemies lurk around every corner.

Killzone 2 - Beach Head

Southern Hills takes the battle to a central Helghast base camp located on a hilltop. This version has been beefed up considerably over the original Killzone counterpart, with smaller structures offering plenty of hiding places that lend itself well to close quarters combat and long range sniping. Take cover when you hear alarms going off, as there might be a radioactive surprise headed your way.

Killzone 2 - Southern Hills

This pack will be available on the PlayStation Network on June 11th for $5.99. Also, a new Killzone 2 patch is coming next week, so stay tuned to the Blog for more details.

oh and i forgot to add…the reason i am buying these maps is because this game REALLY REALLY needs it to hold my interest.

I have no problem paying for DLC for quality games. Its the only way developers make money with so many games being traded that they get nothing for.

SWEET!!! CAN’T WAIT!!! =D

People shouldn’t blame GG though, Sony is the responsible of the pricing. I’m sure that if GG had the options, the map would be free. That’s what Insomniac Games says in their forum anyway, and I don’t see why it would be different with GG.

I would just like to say to GG that you guys are doing extremely amazing on this game, with quick updates, awsome comunication, and extremely cool packs. I really enjoy your game.

Damn I was hoping for Park Terminal… but, I absolutely loved Southern Hill and Beachhead in KZ2… The sniping/counter-sniping should be friggin’ awesome on Beachhead.

Sold.

Wow that’s crazy, I wasn’t expecting new DLC so soon. I’m definitely getting this day one like I did with the 1st map pack. I’m here to support you SONY !!!

Chillie-Pepper  |  May 20th, 2009 at 11:58 pm

Slums anyone? i thought that was the best map on KZ1

dameondrako  |  May 21st, 2009 at 12:14 am

Southern hills sucks compared to The Park Terminal…..but still we need more than maps,we need some game changes in the updates, plus you could give us at least a couple new weapons/classes

$5.99 again? You should really consider giving the ones buying DLC1 a discount on this one. To be honest there are not a lot of players playing the new maps. The “Wasteland Bullet” was somewhat a dissapointment to me.

The price was ok the first time, now it seems… overpriced.

Any chance of any future maps that maybe more organic and have some plant life like some trees, grass or bushes. Maybe hill or stream would be nice but every up to now has been so industrial or urban. I would love to see what you guys could do with a jungle or forest environment. Thanks

I want to back up my KillZone 2 Game-save?
Any chance of changing that with a update? So i can back it up. Really don’t want to lose my KZ2 Save if the Ps3 went wrong.

I love Kz2, I like controls, SP, multiplayer gamming and can’t stop playing, that’s a fact… but I think 6€ (because you’ll sell this in europe for 6€ I know) for 2 maps… i’ts too much..

=( sorry guys, when you release more substantial DLC I’ll see, for now I’ll pass the maps…

DonnyG  |  May 21st, 2009 at 8:42 am

I’ll get this eventually but I’m getting burned out on the game. Need to take a break and focus on other games for a while.

I forgot to mention before. I want maps that show off what the game can do graphically. I can look at blackness with my TV off. Games like RE5 do a great job of using varied environments. That game didn’t need to be dark to set the mood, but GG obviously feels that it’s very important in this game and I’m dissapointed by that. That’s also probably one reason why vektor cruiser is a good map to me and wasteland bullet isn’t so much.

It’s great to see new content again so soon. Both look very fun.

I had an idea for DLC. How about alternate skins for each class for both ISA and Helghast. While I’m no programmer, I would think this would be far easier to design then a whole new map. It would add more of a variety to the multiplayer experience. Could also get fans/players involved by having an art contest that would have the grand prize of one fan’s design be used as a new skin. It’s something I think many would enjoy.

Retro maps look freakin’ awesome. I didn’t get to play Killzone 1 so they are new to me! I can’t wait to get ‘em!

Duseldorf  |  May 21st, 2009 at 11:50 am

Sounds pretty cool, I can’t wait to get back into KZ

TRIX_BOL  |  May 21st, 2009 at 1:11 pm

Will this DLC add more trophies?

dime5150  |  May 21st, 2009 at 1:21 pm

Ah GOD. Another 5.99. Thanks for nickel and diming us to death. The biggest downfall of current gen gaming..

PREDATOR_Reaper  |  May 21st, 2009 at 2:38 pm

These maps looks sick, but $6?! I know it’s not a total rip-off, but I could buy a PSN game like Flower for $4 more and

Nevertheless, I LOVE this game, and will buy the map packs to lengthen my playtime in this game.

RurouniSaiya-jin  |  May 21st, 2009 at 3:06 pm

Southern hills sounds really amazing. I like the radioactive flash. It’s a really nice twist much like the Wasteland bullet.

Keep up the good work, GG

StealthLazer47  |  May 21st, 2009 at 3:54 pm

i love how people complain about cod4 having 2.50 per map and kz2 3.00, when kz2 has far more detailed and larger maps, and is overall a much better game.

I’ll be buying these 2 the first day just like S&T map pack

126

jds07  |  May 21st, 2009 at 7:07 pm

I like the way the new maps look, but it’s a bit too “pricey”. I mean, why should I pay $6 for 2 maps on Killzone 2, when I can get 3 maps and a new game mode for $10 on Cold at War. Two maps don’t impress me enough for $6. Two maps and a online co-op mode would definitely have $6 jump out of my pocket.

eep em comin plz i need killzone

128

yobanideleon  |  May 22nd, 2009 at 2:10 am

killzone 2 is a really good game but its still missing two big things online. It needs a party system and a search ranked system. If this game had these two things, it would deffinately be the best game for the ps3. Hope killzone creators add these up on a patch soon…

129

dime5150  |  May 22nd, 2009 at 7:10 am

I’m noticing hardly any games with the new maps right now. Nobody seems to be buying them (or playing them). This will probably happen with these unfortunately.

ryuken-d  |  May 22nd, 2009 at 4:31 pm

@49 have you changed the controls yet to match COd? thats what I did, KZ:2 = Greatness

131

K6U1R5D  |  May 23rd, 2009 at 1:01 pm

maps are nice but we need some new weapons and classes/game modes. And come up with a solution with the aiming. I think it is just the recoil that the guns have. The Helghast LMG is crazy accurate but the assault rifle has more recoil in certain situations. that is crazy!

Noooodles2804  |  May 25th, 2009 at 10:27 am

These maps look pretty cool – the steel and titanium maps were pretty awsome so hopefully sony can pull it out of the bag againb with a couple more great maps!

136

bigboss706  |  May 28th, 2009 at 11:59 pm

man, i want this to be free so bad, im saving my psn account credit for modern warfare 2 expansion packs, it just seems like they should offer a few free updates now and then right?

137

BlackMoney18  |  June 1st, 2009 at 6:37 pm

Ok first i just want to say that you guys did a great job on the new maps that are coming out. The only problem i have is the price of the new maps.

I can buy three other ps2 games with that money. So what im saying is drop the price.
