Hello, I just wanted to provide everyone with a head’s up that the next PLAYSTATION 3 system software update (v.2.76) will be coming soon. This is a minor update that improves the playback quality of some PS3 format software.

Zezzler | May 13th, 2009 at 5:05 pm
Any chance there will be any new features(in-game mic chat, crossgame invite, in-game XMB for ps one, ps2, dvd, etc)?

jBat17 | May 13th, 2009 at 5:07 pm

5
King_DX | May 13th, 2009 at 5:08 pm
Well we ever be able to hide our online status so we can just hop online for a couple of minutes without being sent hundreds of messages?
6
bball230 | May 13th, 2009 at 5:08 pm
why?
Why would you release a pointless firmware update and instead just wait to put it inside a bigger one that *hopefully matters*
I dont understand the firmware.
If the firmware team needs help to understand what the PS3 needs im free to be hired.

NeoUltima | May 13th, 2009 at 5:09 pm
Are you all still working on PS1 BC? One of my favorite games(Chrono Cross) is still messed up :(
8
xLegioNx | May 13th, 2009 at 5:09 pm
While Skype intergration would be GREAT. I think voice chat would be a far more wanted feature. Obviously neither are coming in the upcoming Firmware. Hope this one is good nevertheless!

11
STMaraj | May 13th, 2009 at 5:11 pm
It’s gotta have some sort of feature otherwise it would just be 2.71, right?

evilpizzacandy | May 13th, 2009 at 5:11 pm

@bball230
Perhaps they had to make adjustments(free up some memory?) so some upcoming, unreleased games can run properly.
20
thegriefer | May 13th, 2009 at 5:13 pm
JUST BRING CROSS GAME VOICE CHAT ALREADY.
21
mafecto | May 13th, 2009 at 5:13 pm
BTW, a few people seem to think this FW is going to bring new features…it’s not. You will notice nothing different. It’s either prep for the NEXT FW or a few network bug fixes. Don’t get your hopes up. folks.
22
KingBroly | May 13th, 2009 at 5:13 pm
Please, for the love of God, STOP WITH THESE USELESS UPDATES ALREADY
23
dehumanizer_666 | May 13th, 2009 at 5:14 pm
thanks for the heads up!
24
peevmyster | May 13th, 2009 at 5:14 pm
I hope it fixes all the STUPID words that are blocked in the text chat.
25
gamerkid99 | May 13th, 2009 at 5:14 pm
Well if I know Sony, there will most likely be something so big that its hidden from us in the release notes… If only my PS3 was still here =(
26
klekamp | May 13th, 2009 at 5:15 pm
I agree with 18! I would like to see what was stated there and I would also like to see cataloging of blu-rays (dvd maybe) and games. The resume playing of blu-rays and dvds bettered. (When movie is removed and played again later.)

ClinToN | May 13th, 2009 at 5:15 pm
@22- How can you call it useless when you have NO IDEA what it’s about? :|
28
BennyD | May 13th, 2009 at 5:16 pm
i was hoping for a big update around e3
29
mafecto | May 13th, 2009 at 5:16 pm
Maybe we’re getting cross game horse and buggie messaging.
30
iyzy | May 13th, 2009 at 5:16 pm
keep the updates coming
31
destroyerofworld | May 13th, 2009 at 5:17 pm
since psp firmware updates usually come out along side ps3 ones, what is the psp getting?
“crosses fingers for ac-hoc party”
32
mafecto | May 13th, 2009 at 5:17 pm
No, wait, I know what it is…
Cross game morse code FTW!

Will this firmware update fix Yakuza’s backwards compatibility issues? The first game freezes indefinitely at a certain part in the game. The backwards compatibility list shows all problems being fixed after a certain firmware update but it is wrong as I (and many others) have tried different things to see if we could get passed this and continue playing the game but the only thing that works is a game save which makes you miss a chunk of the storyline.
It freezes right after the part where someone gets shot (don’t want to spoil) and then it shows who you are about to fight but it never loads.
36
mafecto | May 13th, 2009 at 5:20 pm
Usually these precede a bigger update. E3 anyone?
37
Bearillusion | May 13th, 2009 at 5:20 pm
Please fix the problems I have with the new chat room freezing when I try to setup a room. I can join a friends fine but setting my own just freezes my system.

when you say that, it would be nice if you said which games it improved although with each update, the system seems to respond a little faster each time

CrimsonFox13 | May 13th, 2009 at 5:24 pm
Will this also fix up some of the problems many of the users had with Cross-Game Text Chat?
46
Blkant | May 13th, 2009 at 5:24 pm
Aww… I was hoping for more when I saw the title :( Oh well, 5/5 still because of your continued support :)
47
S_Y_N_1_S_T_3_R | May 13th, 2009 at 5:25 pm
That description is so vague, why can’t you at least say what games it will effect and what it will fix? Or is this just another one of those fixes that plug holes in possible exploits?
48
ynp7 | May 13th, 2009 at 5:25 pm
When are we going to get a speed increase on XMB and automatic trophy syncing? How about full DivX 7 support?
And if the battery indicator still covers up my freaking clock I’m going to smash a PSX with a hammer!
49
James_Jr928 | May 13th, 2009 at 5:26 pm
Please bring cross game voice chat!! :)
50
heatseeker | May 13th, 2009 at 5:26 pm
i suppose this destroys all hope of having a firmware update at E3 for voice chat, because its so close by, and sony does updates less frequently now :(
