Hello, I just wanted to provide everyone with a head’s up that the next PLAYSTATION 3 system software update (v.2.76) will be coming soon. This is a minor update that improves the playback quality of some PS3 format software.

Please bring us voice chat across all games/applications.
Also, move the controller battery indicator so it doesn’t cover up the clock!!!
Thank you.

What is format software? and how is it updated?
104
Enforcer_X | May 13th, 2009 at 6:03 pm
@ALL YOU firmWHINERS!
This is not a pointless update so long as it does what it says!
Anything that improves the very thing the PS3 was designed to do, PLAY GAMES, is a SOLID update to me!
I appreciate this update and look forward to future firmware updates that further enhace my PS3 entertainment experience!
Thank you!

@ Eric L.
Thanks for letting us know. I was wondering, if we could get the *black* background that is available on the PSP-3000 on our PS3?
By the way, we are still waiting for some cool Avatars. Are there any new ones on this update?

it sound ok to me, update is an update but what do you guys mean by playback is it videos, games, or movies?
113
hugecakefan | May 13th, 2009 at 6:08 pm
Maybe the update is there to fix all the systems they bricked with the last update. They need to let us choose what features we want to install instead of forcing us to update the unit. I was much happier when my system worked right.

Hey Eric…can you guys look into Castlevania SotN for the PSN classics. One of the recent updates. Around 2.70 I think gave it some odd graphical glitches :(

What does that mean though?
Improves what?
You guys do a lot of stealth fixes/tweaks/improvements and don’t mention them.

I’d like an update to the blog so that I can block certain users…it’ll make my browsing of the blog much quicker when the spammed duplicate messages can be removed from site.
Thanks PSN team.
Here is hoping it is prep to assault my SIXSENSES.

@71
As I said……….. takes 15 minutes to 40 minutes to download a firmware update.
And also in other parts of the world OUTSIDE the USA we have DOWNLOAD QUOTA’s.
USA does not equal the whole world as many americans seem to think.
133
Schnacky | May 13th, 2009 at 6:26 pm
So pretty much this is a driver update for the RSX.
134
gooch-getta | May 13th, 2009 at 6:28 pm
THE PS3 HAS NO GOOD UPDATES. For a system 100 more then the competition we should have at least equal features…
-In Game Chat
-Voice Messages
-Video Messages
-Quicker, easier in game XMB
-Xmb re design, make it nicer, more colorful and icons in 3D
-CHECK THE PS3 UPDATES FORUMS FOR WHAT WE WANT AND NEED.
-Better, refined, and re designed internet browser.
-No drop in video when starting a game after the PlayStation logo

DragonNutz | May 13th, 2009 at 6:29 pm
I would agree with the majority of the people on here who are saying that this is pointless, in a way. I know full well how it’s supposed to work (as patches are to PCs). But what I feel people are trying to get across is that Sony’s updates are so far apart from each other that we half-heartedly expect something we as customers have asked for for months (or even years). They just seem to me that they’re not really listening to us. Or they need to hire more staff?
I would personally also like to see the ability to delete games from the trophy list. I have games on there I’ve rented or demos and I decided not to buy them, therefore I don’t need them on the list. I don’t want that credit if I don’t like the game. But maybe that’s just me and the one other poster in this thread…
I just think that if we got updates more often we could feel like they’re patches, and not get our hopes up for anything more than that.

I remember in the beginning of the year when you YES YOU ERIC said that there was gonna be less firmwares but more content..
Sadly there’s still as many firmwares but not worth content.. 2 things we have asked..
1. xmb meaning that we’re able to communicate with other people in game.. this has been done in a very lame way..
2. music in games.. again this is supported in a handful of games.. you guys need a new software team.. always take forEVER to get anything done.. just look at home.. 2 years and still has nothing of what was originally promised.. pretty sad don’t you think
142
KSPRAYDAD | May 13th, 2009 at 6:35 pm
@143…
It has only been 6 weeks since the last update.
You do hit on a semantic point though…perhaps this small updates can be referred to as patches rather than firmware updates.
143
zyxses | May 13th, 2009 at 6:36 pm
A rather big jump for a patch? I’m sure it lays the groundwork for the addition of Vidzone to some PAL territories. I still cannot fathom why the PS3 browser is unable to access the Official PlayStation Blog? It could before update 2.70! It seems ridiculous to me that you cannot access this blog with the PS3 browser!
144
Blue-Alloy | May 13th, 2009 at 6:37 pm
Would it be possible to RESTORE some of the functionality removed in the previous update? It’s a small thing, but I sometimes switch back and forth between using a Rock Band microphone to communicate online and a regular headset. It used to be that you could go to audio devices while in-game and switch on the fly between communication devices, but after a recent update, this functionality was actually removed, and now you need to quit out of whatever game you’re playing and go to to the XMB proper to do it. I’ve always wondered why this functionality was removed as it didn’t seem resource heavy and proved to be occasionally convenient. Could we get it back at some point?
145
DragonNutz | May 13th, 2009 at 6:38 pm
Enforcer_X – The PS3 was designed to do things it’s not even doing yet, not just PLAY GAMES, as you stated. We’re still waiting…
Rapoza – stfu b4 u speak… wtf? Thanks for making me laugh.
146
Schnacky | May 13th, 2009 at 6:38 pm
@154 – they can’t really as this isn’t the same as a patch. A patch is released by a game developer to fix an individual game’s issues. A firmware update updates the drivers of the console which improves various abilities of the system’s hardware. Like I said it is probably an update for the RSX (the GPU).
147
D-Bone4Life | May 13th, 2009 at 6:41 pm
E3 better be HUGE as in 3.00 or something firmware wise.
