If you watched our E3 announcement this morning, which we are featuring in the E3 channel on PlayStation Store, the E3 space in HOME and also on PS.com, you heard that PlayStation Network is extending our downloadable video entertainment offerings to PSP.

Beginning today, you can download standard definition movies and tv shows directly to your PSP through PlayStation Network video delivery service. You can still transfer programs to your PSP via the PS3 or from your PC via Media Go. But now, by accessing the video store directly on your PSP, it’s easier than ever to take your favorite entertainment with you on the go.

We’re also excited to release a variety of shows from partners such as Showtime Networks, Starz, G4 & E!, Summit Entertainment, The Weinstein Company, HDnet & Magnolia Pictures, Anime Network, Media Blasters, Right Stuf’s Nozomi Entertainment, Starz Media’s Manga Entertainment, Toei Animation, Viz Media, WEP, UFC, TNA and Video Action Sports – increasing PlayStation Store’s library to more than 1900 movies and 9400 TV episodes.

So check out the 9000 hours of new programming… on your PS3 or your PSP!

  • I love Sony stuff but this discrimination against Canadian (or European) customers is really aggravating me. I lived in the UK and now Canada (owned a PS3 in both territories) – and both are screwed over by the PlayStation network – do we really have to wait for PS4???

Should SCEA be renamed SCEUSA? SCEA only seems to look after the market south of Canada and north of Mexico.

Is our money not good enough? I can understand the market in the USA is a big market – but how long can you expect us to hang on? I’d be happy scrap my crappy digital cable box for on demand content but looks like we’re going to have to hang on. Surely Sony can announce something – I don’t care for a big announcement out of the blue and watch Sony get a pat on the back. I want to know if there is any progress? Is anyone doing anything? This silence just annoys me (and many others it seems).

It’s possible that the guys on the blog simply don’t know – or aren’t allowed to say. But it’s about time that SCEA understood that that A in SCEA is for Americas (the continent) and not just the US.

  • no wonder you guys keep saying the playstation 3 will have a 10 year life cycle, it’s going to take you that long to catch up to the competition, how long has the ps3 been out now? 3 years? your still extremely lacking in features, feature that we have been asking for time and time again and we never get a response unless we are sucking up to something you posted here on the blog, we have been more then patient, there is no need to keep things a big secret anymore, other consoles are already doing it, can you please give us a progress report on how things are coming along for the features we’ve been asking for?
    thanks

  • LOL – just noticed

A leader in entertainment – in two markets! The US and Japan.

    Yeah – you’re right. I am bitter.

  • Yay, G4 is fially here! I snatched up the first 4 episodes of Attack of The Show and can’t wait for more. Thank you guys for getting this up. I need more Olivia Munn in my life… :)

  • Updated Media Manager to Media Go and I am still disappointend in not being able to que downloads with my PSP as you can queue downloads on the PS3.

  • I’m lost. So we can browse the Video Store now? There’s an icon on the PSP’s PSN Store but it’s not “clickable”. They did say when the store gets updated right? Because it was updated today. Or do they mean on Thursday??

    ..Like I said, I’m lost :(

  • Well in Canada all video stores are up hill from your house in a blizzard and you have to walk up hill to get home too. And paying in beaver pelts sucks. Thus a video store on the PSN would be nice.

  • It’s quite telling when the posters on this blog fail to say anything important about Canadian or Europe markets in terms of the PSN Video Store. Simply a “we cannot say anything definite” or similar only continues to confuse the customer base, especially when they’ve been asking for nearly a year now.

  • ThreeLeggedFreak

Yay let’s download large PSP and PS1 games as well as large movie files and tv shows files on our lighting fast 802.11b PSP GO without touchscreen that will retail for the very low price of 250 bucks. Yay.

  • I hope it would be a subscription based fee. I wont mind paying 20 – 30 a month for video delivery for both my psp ,ps3 and soon my psp go.

  • “Sony’s” been saying that they’ll bring the movie download service to Europe this year, but nothing was mentioned at E3. Hell, Microsoft came out of the blue and announced theirs which will be available here in Finland as well.

But considering the incredibly idiotic pricing, it’s probably cheaper to rent movies from a store anyway.

  • 9-9-84, i turned 5, the day after “Voltron” aired for the first time, when i logged into the video store today and i saw the “Blue Lion” i almost passed out, lol, i was so freaking happy. To think that you all would think about your oldest customer’s in such a way, i thank you, please more of the best of the best, some early “Transformers” and “Thunder Cats”, even “G.I. Joe”, Wackcrosoft ain’t got and never will have nothing on Playstation, I Love Yall Man!!!

  • I just hope that our laws in Canada can change fast enough so that we have access to this store within a year at the longest.

  • you say you don’t hate canadians, but you still haven’t officially told us why the video download service isn’t available in canada.

while it may be extreme to assume that means you hate canadians, it’s natural to assume that you’re just ignoring us.

so how about you stop ignoring us and tell us why it’s not available here yet…please?

  • How about Europe???

  • this is great news – finally, the PSP is getting the attention it deserves! i’ve always loved portable gaming, and to be able to take my games anywhere as well as movies – it’s a bonus! i still have my PSP from first day of release, and it still works as well as when i got it.

  • @dtom2444

I think that is just an ad that does nothing. The button to go to the video store is located at the very top of the home page of the store. No FW update needed like I thought.

  • jedi_webslinger

Man i live in an igloo in Canada, With a hd tv and a ps3, all i need now is this serice, but dont worry im patient… As long i have Littlebigplanet and Deer, i can Wait. But man its getting colder, PSN Video would be great between salmon fishing and Maple Syrop ;)

  • And HOW ABOUT EXTING ITS VIDEO DELIVERY SERIVE TO EUROPE?

Godammit, would that be really that hard?

  • How are they gonna release the video store to canada when you dont even have half the networks that are on the list. BRAINS IN CANADA PLEASE…SOON! Learn how things work im tired of explaining it.

  • When wil we get this in norway? / eu?

  • Nice to have more selection but please add trailers and previews to all the video content. There are many videos I might watch if I could see the trailer or a tv show that has a preview instead of play it safe and only consider movies I have already seen which doesn’t happen often.

  • @120
Last time I Looked we have alot of those channels, TLC, A&E, FOX, NBC, Spike, Discovery, HDNet, CMT, CW, E!, etc….

So please explain it again to us. Why can I access most of those stations from my iTunes account.

Apple has it, Microsoft has it, Sony Canada just needs to get off their lazy arses and do something! If they are actually working on it, give us some updates once in awhile.

  • Senior manager hmmmmm well were is FF7 for PlayStation Store in EU?!?!?!?!?!?!?

  • Last year when Sony announced the Video Delivery Service for the PSN i was floored! It was something I knew I would use and use alot. However I’ve never been able to see or actually use this service as I have a slight barrier.. I’m Canadian, and as a Canadian I do not have access to this service. Now I know that there is something going on behind close doors to explain as to why it has not arrived here yet, whether it be on Sony’s end or the Government’s end. All I ask is maybe if you Grace might be able to get something to report on about the progress no matter how big or small it may be as it seems right now even the tiniest bit of information would give use Canadians something to lean on. So please if see this post could you at least get something that you can release to us to calm our minds about the service.

    Thanks!

  • PSP is getting big love this year. Grace do you have any idea if Sony is looking into Music content. Maybe they can hook up with Amazon or Napster for MP3 downloads onto our PSP & PSP Go!. Thank you for making our voices heard and thanks for the video store as well as Media Go which I love the fact that we can tag and edit our video properties to include more info on our video files. Playstation 4 Life!

  • why oh why is the UK not getting this stuff? :-(

  • I thought at E3 Scea would announce a new firmware update including a Music Video Service and Probably the most asked for feature for the past two years! that is of course IN-GAME CHAT but No that as far as i know that hasnt happened. The way i see it, we players and Sony fans are being ignored. Please add the feature of In-Game Chat.

  • It won’t come to Canada any time soon. I’m pretty sure it’s because we have different and more strict video policies than the US.

  • @123

I been saying that for awhile now and your the first to actually respond and tell me you got them channels how the hell am i supposed to know.

Yes microcrap has it but from what i read it also took them a long time to get it to you guys. I doubt that they are not trying because well thats not good business, every big business likes to expand and you will not find many that refuse. Its not like they can say hey lets do this and then its done the same day.

I just cant figure out this impatience, its like half of them are 10. I get tired of hearing “the world forgot us” and “u.s gets everything”, and you turn it around and make us look bad like we did it. Theres plenty of other places that are even worse. Aight im done.

Straight to my point grow up quit crying. This isnt just directed to 123 but anybody that whines.

  • So, we all expected “We are going to be releasing the Video Store to the world” instead of just American at e3…. WHY NOT FOR CANADA

Since its taking so long to be brought out by time it actually comes everyone is going to be so mad that they just dont buy anything..

  • @129 With that logic we wouldn’t see DVD’s and BluRay discs either…it’s just a different form of distribution…

  • Horray, they actually heard my begging. Now we got more anime on PSN. This is the greatest wish I ever had. Thank you, Sony. Please try to bring this to Canada, if those bureaucrats in Canada are the one stopping you from bringing in the store, then the Canadians owners shall protest.

  • VehicleDestroyr

This means nothing to me until you bring the video store to Canada.

  • Is it some sort of licencing issue which prevents expansion of the video store to Canada and Europe? I expect there is some cost involved in getting these services off the ground outside the US which is preventing them from being launched? Otherwise it seems pointless to deprive people of a service they seem willing to pay for.

  • Can you do it without the media manager or ps3?

  • i was just wondering…..If i rent a SD movie from my PS3, can i then watch it on my PSP? Do i need to be near my wireless connection? would make a huge impact if i choose to rent or not.

  • When in Canada ???

  • Nice! I was hoping the vid section would come to the PSP PlayStation Store. Now how about PSN Friends List on PSP?? Thanks guys, keep up the awesome work!

  • @ Mike_Feith
I know the whining is getting really bad on here but it is necessary. Sony needs to see that Canadians really want this service. Unfortunately, they refuse to give us any sort of status update. Tell us why it’s taking so long. Is it the CRTC that is blocking this? Is it the agreements with CTV, CBC and other Canadian channels that have the rights to broadcast the shows? Just give us something to hold us over. I know it took Apple over a year to get the licensing it needed for their store. But where is it that Sony stands?

It is really frustrating to watch the US have access to a great service and here we are sitting in the dark.

As for “The world forgot us” and “Sony hates us”, I agree. That’s not going to get anything done. It doesn’t even have anything to do with the US. It’s Sony Canada that needs to deal with this.

  • @140

Im pretty sure they are aware by now, no business will turn down money no matter what the currency is, they usually even it out. I can see where you are coming from though, questions are not getting answered. I wish you guys luck and I will back down for now, hopefully there will be some official announcement sometime soon.

  • Video download for Canada would be nice…

  • Is there at least any idea of when video delivery might hit Canada?

  • I know that you have recently announced Vidzone in Australia, but is there any chance of similar video content such as this appearing any time soon?

  • I heard first hand in a Q&A yesterday with the PR and Marketing Manager for Sony Canada that there’s a decent chance we’ll have this service in Canada in November of this year.

  • This is aweful. Why can we in Canada not get any answers about Video Delivery? Sony has no excuse now. The CRTC just ruled that they will not regulate video over the internet. That means no Government standards on Canadian content, or distribution.
So come on Sony. Why will you not give us a time frame on when this will happen?

  • iTunes has it…

Majors now selling TV programs on iTunes Canada
TORONTO — A slew of popular American TV shows, including “Grey’s Anatomy,” “House” and “Desperate Housewives,” are now available for download on iTunes in Canada.

    Bell Video Store has it…
CinemaNow (Blockbuster) is worldwide and has it…
ZML is worldwide and has it

  • awsome..more free stuff would be fresh too

  • Sounds really cool… hope the service comes to Canadian gamers too soon!

  • What the HELL happened to the Go!Cam and the GPS (Go!Explore)that was suppose to come out at the end of last year?!?! Europe and Japan has it since 2006 why don’t we? I don’t care about downloadable videos. I use Nero Recode to rip and compress movies to play on my PSP-2001. I want my Go!Explore & Go!Cam that is what sold me on buying this toy because the game selection seriously lacks.
