Photo Sharing Coming to PlayStation Home

160 0

Update: We experienced a minor glitch this morning with the Buzz space in PlayStation. We know what the issue is and we are working to resolve it as soon as possible. Please check back with the blog for an update on when it will go live.

Greetings, Homies. Fasten your seatbelts, because we have the most exciting news to hit PlayStation Home since Open Beta! We know you loyal Home fans have been asking for media sharing since the get-go, and we’re very happy to tell you that the first stage is here!

Photo sharing, the first feature to support user-generated content, is finally coming to PlayStation Home! Starting today, Thursday, June 4th, you’ll be able to purchase picture frames in the Mall, upload photos from your hard drive or select from a gallery of default pictures, and then display them in your personal apartments. So if you’ve got photos from your latest game tournament that you want to share, all you have to do is upload them, choose the angle and size options for display, and then invite your friends back to your Home pad for your viewing party. Awesome!

But that’s not all! As usual, we have more exciting content updates coming today, including the highly-anticipated launch of the brand-new Buzz! game space. Get ready to strain your brain and freak your mind with this fast-paced, interactive quiz game. You’ll have to work with your friends and fellow community members to answer the questions lickety-split (hint: some organized sprinting may be necessary). Join the Home Community Management team in the Buzz! Space throughout the day where we’ll be challenging you to a game or three. Be sure to visit the MyBuzz website to discover what it takes to get your own quizzes into the Buzz! game space for future challenges.

When you need a break from thinking, be sure to visit the Mall for some retail therapy. It will be packing brand-new Ghostbusters costumes, designer duds for dandified men and women, and still more Street Fighter IV costumes.

Last but not least…word on the street is that everyone’s favorite ARG, Xi, will be revealing new spaces, ornaments, and mini-games.. Keep on playing, because it’s not over til the last butterfly flutters.

  • The Buzz! space is going to be great!

  • thats pretty cool

  • RE: ghostpos | game-launching? That’s the purpose of home anyway right?

No, now it’s a Social Network with Virtual Items. LOL
I think we are up to 3-4 games now.

  • Great news !

    Thanks CydoniaX.

  • If $3.00 is any indication of what a virtual frame costs to display a picture in Home, I suspect it will cost $50 for the music player and maybe even $100 for the video player. I also concur that if you want to build the Home fanbase to use these features, charging for so much for something like this is not going to work. Will this picture frame do slideshows?

  • Picture frame.. purchase? Is it 19th century here?

  • … For USA only. That’s great. Is it so hard to make that sort of thing that you only have the ability to upload that feature on to the US platform? We europeans “suffer” once again.

  • @100….You’re keyboard seems broken, you should fix that.

    @the rest….

Any chance we can use an animated GIF and get more bang for our buck?

    :P

  • ****Sony READ THIS****SONY OVER HERE READ***
Ok now I love Home because I see the potential in it and Im always trying to get friends to log on with me and when ever someone bad mouths Home I’m the first to defend explaining how much potential it has, but when we (YOUR FAN BASE) waits for years to get these features and all the while xbox is announcing things like viewing MOVIES in a party of friends together and you guys finally announce VIRTUAL PICTURE FRAMES FOR $3.00???!!?? AND YOU CANT EVEN TRY THEM FIRST??WTF WHO’S BRIGHT IDEA WAS THIS??? YOU FAILED ON THIS ONE SONY….MY GOD WOW. (Now im not even the complaining type and as you can see this is my first post on this blog, but come on….dont wannA be rude but who’s the idiot who allowed this MY GOD!!!)

  • I dont even care about sharing, its simply listening to my own music i want! Jeez home is supposed to be like the super sony service and it wont even support custom sountracks!

  • Sony look at the feed back you’re getting not only on here, but also on the Playstation Home forums http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=ps3home&thread.id=681194! You’d be crazy not to sort this out!

  • AWESOME!

*runs to the mall like a savage*

  • A good first step (even though you have to pay for it). I hope this is a sign that video and music are on there way soon.

  • ok sony ur doin good with home now…all we need is the radios for home and the tv…and yall will b on da roll wit home…

  • If this is really “the most exciting news to hit PlayStation Home since Open Beta!” then they should offer to all Home users, instead of screwing other region(s).

Also, shouldn’t something as simple in this been around for a while? Image on a wall, really?

  • Buzz ! Epic Fail

  • I have to agree, paying for this is really pathetic, Sony. Go back and try again, plus there are limits to the amount of frames you can put in there?

This is why i like the sims, we can just make our own stuff. community would thrive a lot better and we’d get more people in there.

yes i know Sony loses about a billion dollars a year or some crap so you have to make money some how but THIS isn’t the answer. I can see signing up for a steaming video channel or sat. radio channel and you guys get a cut of it but this is horrible.

for videos i’d be happy right now if you just let me have a tv and we can watch Hulu.com.

  • I might pay $2 max to stream music or video, but a picture frame? Eh, no way. We should get at least 1 free. I’ve uninstalled Home until we get something worthwhile anyway.

  • So, is this like any other furniture purchase where 2.99 gets u as many frames as you want, or is it 2.99 for one frame?

  • hey i have a addition that i think should be added to home:i think you should label the clothes in the wardrobe with their names so i can tell which clothes are what because sometimes it is hard to tell what they are

  • So you are going to make us pay to display pictures? Why?

  • purchase frames….home is becoming a greedy pig….your ad whoring isn’t enough???

  • I really want these picture frames but Ill be a monkeys uncle if I pay $3 to display my own picture in Home…

  • astronautcowboy3

This is a terrible idea. Home is about to become way creepier.

    A/S/L pics?

  • Ok just tried it out and have some regrets:

    1. Unlike other furniture, you’re NOT able to place the frame anywhere you like. You’re provided with 1 or 2 options.

    2. In my summer space, it’s only allowing me to hang ONE frame. Who hangs only one photo?

It’s a good concept and the execution needs to improve.

    Price is $2.99

  • To those complaining about the price, you photo has to get stored on a serve somewhere…servers aren’t free.

  • We should just be able to post anything on a wall like LBP…

    Charging yet again?

    WOW!

    PASS!

  • they need put a feature but free to where u can put ur own music in ur apparments that would be kool

  • OK more:

Photo quality: Horrible. I think Home is running in 480p.

Landscape isn’t possible…you can turn the frame sideways, but your photo doesn’t follow.

Frankly, this feature should not have been released in this state. Anyone downloading this will lose complete faith in other purchases besides the safe stuff like clothes.

  • Wow Sony that’s all you got? Who ever is in charge needs to either be fired or start firing people for the pathetic choices Sony has been making lately. Sony should have just called in sick for E3. The only thing that caught my eye was MAG, but I’ll bet my PS3 its launch will be delayed till xmas or 2010.

  • this is something different but what would really mak the ps3 top notch would be if they added instant messenger app such as aim, yahoo, etc like they did for the psp and put skype up there.

and it would be amazing if they added a screen to aparments that kinda work like the chat option on the xmb bar where you can video chat on home now that would be amazing

” like they say raise the bar “

  • Was there any doubt Buzz would not work right when it launched? Sony can’t do anything right on that crappy network of theirs. It seems like every game released on PS3 with online multiplayer crashes when it’s released. $3 for a picture frame? What happend to the trophy case we were supposed to get for our apartment? Home does have potential, but at the rate Sony is going it will be 5 years from now before it is taken out of its ‘beta’ stage. Lame Sony very lame.

  • I bought the picture frames and bit I notice that the photos in the frames have a yellowish haze to them… I uploaded a GT5P wallpaper into the picture frame and it looks nothing like the photo it is supposed to be…

  • maybe it´s not the place to ask, but…when can we access home with latin america accounts?, or are we homeless?, please don´t forget us!!!
    sad, so sad…

  • Please. **Cross Game Voice Chat** Keep all this other stuff. PS Home is boring.

  • @ 126 quit giving SONY a soft rub; if they didn’t want to host data then why create Home. HOME was to grow the gaming community and bring it closer NOT suck more money out of us….it’s bad enough old PS games are selling for $5 a pop on PSN, now they nickle and dime the Home users for all kinds of CRAP. If SONY wants to creates a class system within HOME then they should say so then maybe people wouldn’t be so upset.

  • Why don´t you do one thing right sometime? I really don´t understand.
What kind of people are working at Sony? I really don´t understand.

The E3 was pathetic, no new firmware, no new XMB, no new in-game stuff, no new Home stuff.
    What´s happen?

The new psp go is so terrible and ugly (with the super currency change 250$ = 250 Euros) are you serious Sony?
A lot of games… ok, but the only thing i´m interested to is better PS3 performance and services.

It´s gonna happen someday? I doubt.

  • $3 is a bit much for a picture frame… but I bought it.

Then I noticed I can’t resize the frame at all. So any image I put in it has to be squished or cropped… considering I mostly have wallpapers on my computer (Wide and short..) that makes your basic frame kind of hard for me to use.

For something so limited, it really should be cheaper.

  • The frames are great, man. Hope to get that music and video streaming as well (Just don’t let it take years.)

All the complaining needs to stop, man. Sony gives enough stuff away for free, so a couple dollars aint gon hurt you. You all are acting like you gotta pay $2.99 PER FRAME. You’re buying the link (Seeing that it’s based off the internet.) to post your pictures. Though there’s a limited amount of frames per space, you still get to use them when you want. If you’re not into paying for things like this, then why bother even posting it. Noone NEEDS to know why you’re not gonna pay.

What next? You’re not gonna pay for games because you “bought a PS3 and it was expensive so the games should be free.”? All companies have to make a dollar off something. You would too if you were responsible for maintaining great gaming experiences AAND maintaining bread in your OWN pocket.

    Losers.

  • To l0_t0,

You know what the real problem is? You can’t please everybody. FIRST people were saying that Sony needed to focus on bring a wider selection of games to the PS3. Now it’s better features when THAT’S WHAT THEY WERE FOCUSING ON IN THE BEGINING! You want 360 features, then go get a 360 and stop whinning.

The PS3 has a great XMB, great video playback, online gaming, internet, Music, Text Messaging, and great Downloadable content consistantly becoming available despite complaints from impatient, SPOILED gamers like you. Do us and Sony a favor and chill.

  • I can understand why some people don’t want pay for virtual items on Home. Especially waiting so long for to release on a free network. I wish they could at least had a “free for a week” special, kind of like the Chamber Apartment. People also got to understand that buying items from is the only thing that’s keeping Home alive. Like resturants and shopping stores, if people don’t buy from them, they will eventually shut down. Think about it, if you were creating all of these things on an already free network, would you add everything on there for free? You’ll never make any money. Creating this social network would be just a hobby. The developers, producers, designers, and creators of this network got to eat too. Buying this Photo Frame is no different than buying DLCs for games. Plus, just like DLCs, you only have to buy this item once, and use as many as you want in each house. So, people calm down. It’s not that serious.

  • Typo correction on my last post:
    1. Especially waiting so long for “one” to release on a free network.

    2. People also got to understand that buying items from “Home” is the only thing that’s keeping “it” alive.

    3. Creating this social network would “just be” a hobby.

  • Followup to my previous posts:

The ability to hang only 1 photo seems to be resolved in my summer home.

Have figured out how to rotate the photo into landscape. Missed it the 1st time around.

    Photo quality still brutal

  • There are some features that should just be free. The picture frame is one of them.

  • I don’t need no picture frame. i need the ability to stream music and tv. i’m going to play xbox more. this is just disappointing.(and u have to pay for it)

  • #140 It´s my opinion, if you don´t like it, don´t read it. So easy.

  • To everybody bitching about the cost of picture frames in Home:

1.) Here’s what you already know but don’t want to hear – Get over it. It’s three measly dollars. Go get a job or ask mom & dad for $3. You probably spend $3 for a soda and a bag of chips on any given day of the week, why not drop it on something to brighten up your private Home spaces and SUPPORT the service that you enjoy so much.

2.) If you take a moment to think about what these frames are doing – moving images across the servers for anybody who ventures into your private space to see – they’re taxing the servers in X capacity where X=the amount of people in your private space viewing them at any given time. $ helps support the cost of that bandwidth which is otherwise FREE. A small one-time fee if you ask me.

Bottom line, stop whining, Sony (as well as 3rd party devs) does a great job of supporting Home, and they’ve given us enough free stuff in the way of outfits, trinkets, private spaces etc. where I’m MORE than happy to drop a few bucks on something neat like picture frames to decorate my personal space with photos of things that I enjoy.

  • For F sake FORGET Home, forget everything until you catch up with 360.

    -Cross Game Voice Chat!
    -Party Options.
    -Ability to stream internet radio.
-Web Browser that actually works well (webkit based or something)
    -Faster in game XMB.

The PS3 software is falling behind drastically.

  • $3 is crazy for pic frames. The plain ones should be FREE! Then they should have better looking ones, ones that do slide shows…charge for those.

  • i like the idea but what about music and videos it would be more interesting
