PlayStation Around the Web: What We Read

75 14

Talking with media members and other folks on the show floor last week, I had gotten the impression that PlayStation put on a darn good showing at E3. But it wasn’t until I got home and sorted through literally thousands of stories did a couple of themes really hit: we’ve got an incredible lineup of games heading your way in the next year, and to hold the PSP go is to want it.

After a week such as this, and even with a list such as this, I’m sure we missed a few good stories. Add your links to the comments below.

We’ll have a lot more E3 coverage and info coming your way this coming week, picking up again tomorrow.

  • Great week, great E3…thanks Jeff!

Off topic though, can you tell me what the track was that was played before Queen at the start of Sony’s conference?

I need to find out what it was…

  • How gruesome was Kratos ripping Helios’s head? Are the devs on drugs or sth?

Can we get March 2010 to come any earlier?

  • please make uncharted 1 a greatest hits i’m dying to buy it since i got the demo but games are 69’99 new here in canada and i’m broke

  • Hey Jeff, are you guys going to put up the HD trailers for Final Fantasy XIV and The Last Guardian on the store?

  • Awesome week for PlayStation news.

I’m very excited for all the games that are coming to the PSN this summer, there is a huge amount of them.

    • Jeff Rubenstein

Indeed there are! BTW, Gravity Crash is one to look out for. Enjoyed playing that one on the show floor.

  • Since you put the ‘Metal Gear Solid coming to PSN June 18’, does that mean that it is an actual date? (doesn’t matter for me, cuz i own the actual thing, but, meh)

  • Great coverage.

    Analysis of Sony’s press conference.

    MAG demo

Quick question: Will we be seeing more big retail titles on PSN (e.g. Assassins Creed, Bioshock, GRA IV)?

  • Hey, Jeff…

Any news on a new PS3 firmware update anytime soon?

  • Still don’t get why the only Soul Calibur with Kratos (finally) is on PSP.

  • Good week full of news it seen that Sony R&d department aren’t lazy how it thought they’re working hard to bring that technology to us playstation gamers. I wonder how long this honey moon will last. last firmware worth the time to congrats Sony was 2.40 and the introduction of trophies. @Jeff or @Chris why you guys never respond to firmware update posts. Is not like you guys are going to get hammered by the crowd. we love the work done by you guys. just keep bring it good news.

  • E3 was pretty good this year much better than last that’s for sure. A couple of things I thought for sure would have been announced at E3 was official gamer cards for SCEA, universal login for PS sites, icons, and a PS3 update finally containing voice chat. But the main theme of this E3 was “Only on Playstation” video game wise which was great. Hopefully these much needed features will come out soon.

As much as I love my sheep he needs to be put down, do you see how skinny his legs are? Poor little guy can’t even stand up anymore (more icons please).

  • Heavy Rain interview with David.

Man, this is the most I’ve ever linked to G4. I like video content.

  • I think it’s time for a new ad campaign. Can’t wait to see what you guys think of next! ;)

  • This week was almost perfect for Sony. You guys pwned E3 with The Last Guardian alone. However, the [DELETED] PSN store update was the only downside for Sony last week. You guys need to work on the PSN stores updates because they were coming too late in the night on the East Cost and most of the contents was not very good. We got 3 demos and one of those demo was on the PSN store if you had a Code to access it from pre-order.
Where my trailer for The Last Guardian and God of War 3 dammit.

  • TheInfectedBy590

    Great Job at E3! :)

One thing that bugged me though… We didn’t get to hear much from about Demon’s Souls’ release in NA.

  • @11
What ad campaign? I am sorry but Marketing and Sony doesn’t exists. I have yet to see a Killzone 2 commercial or a inFamous commercial. Two games if market just a little bit will move PS3 unites off the store shelves at retailers.

  • Sony you’ve got the hardware, but your software is lacking!

    -Cross Game Voice Chat!
    -Party features.
    -Faster in game XMB.
    -Ability to stream internet radio.
-Web Browser that actually works well. (WebKit based or something)
-Launch all games from Home. (like LittleBigPlanet, Socom, and all FPSs)

The PS3 is falling behind dramatically.

  • Jeff can you get maybe a Sony Canada person to come on the blog and explain why Canada still has no video store or PSN cards and maybe they can at least give us a time frame for both of them?

  • Chrono Cross for PSN store please. I never played it and websites gave it some of the highest scores ever for an RPG.

  • People if you want Yakuza’s games on USA please every time you see a new post ask about the possibility Sega of America don’t care but Yakuza is the seller on Japan even owning Star Ocean on 360 with the promer propaganda this can be a seller her ein the same level of Metal gear Solid 4.

so please Sony do something about give us this hot PS3 exclusive.

  • Jeff thanks for the awesome coverage throughout the whole, especially for the post that showed the end of God of War 3 demo, it’s absolutely phenomenal!!!! God of War 3 and Uncharted 2 were the games that I liked the most, what about you? Thanks :)

    • Jeff Rubenstein

Thanks! We\’ve got more videos in that style coming soon. My favorites from the show that I actually had time to play were Uncharted 2, God of War III, Gravity Crash, Gran Turismo PSP, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2.

However, there were many, many, many games I didn\’t have the chance to go hands on with.

  • Great job @ E3 Jeff. Im really excited about playstation going forward. Could you please drop us some hints @ the contents of the next firmware update? Wait a minute let me add; would you kindly? Maybe that will work? :)

  • GREAT E3 i feel yall need to add to ps home a voice conference feature that will allow friends to communicate and chat with eachother so you can talk to more then one friend at the same time its really annoying for em to be in central plaza and want to talk to both my friends and have to call them up one at a time i hope when you hopefully make ti it supports up to at least 8 player voice conference and i dont care for that cross game voice chat but i am for having a voice message system to where you can communicate in messages as a recording and send them to friends you want to message but other then that sony im saddend that you still havent planned to release white knight chronicles on 2009 i dont think i can wait til 2010 to be honest but im gonna give it a try

  • It was indeed a great week Jeff, I really can’t wait for MGS:Peace Walker & Uncharted 2.

And congratulations for all of you at SCEA for that great E3 presentation ;D

  • e3 was ok.. but sony TOTALLY ignored the PSN.

No im not talking about psp integration with the video store(whopty doo!)

The PSN lacks SOOOO many features that make gaming a PAIN on the ps3, i cant talk to my friends while we are in different games (WTF) I can barely EVER seems to get into games with my friends( no dedicated party system WTF)

The PSN feels and looks EXTREMLY unstable to that of competition..

sony we know you have games.. you always do.

    but the PS3/PSN needs features!

Do sony employees even play video games… dont you think they would realize that features like a xmb based party system or cross game chat or some other unique features are not only NEEDED but would create a MUCH better experience?

    C’mon sony.

  • listen to this podcast sony.. about the 1 hour mark or so.. i cant remember exactly. Some GREAT points are brought up.

    http://dlb-network.com/2009/06/dlb-network-gaming-podcast-episode-87-e3-recap/

PS this is not an advertisement in any way i dont work for the network or anything this is soley to help sony.

  • Shout-outs to Jack Tretton and Kaz Hirai for an outstanding conference, and for the PlayStation.Blog Team. Plus SCE (you guys) really blew the show off with *God of War III Demo* and the other exclusive PS titles heading “Soon”.

I found this video on YouTube which completes the rest of ‘God of War III Demo’ shown at the Press Conference.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1ArbSF-lTA

Hey Jeff, do you already have a ‘PSP Go’?
Also what can you tell us God of War Serie fans about God of War III?

    Thank you.

    -TRIX_BOl

    • Jeff Rubenstein

Not yet, but hoping to resolve that soon…

About God of War III, I can tell you that it\’s in excellent hands.

  • Excellent showing this year at E3, definitely an improvement over last year.

However Sony’s Motion Controls has me concerned. I’m a PS Eye owner, have been for some time and the unit has had very lackluster support over the years. Outside of one PSN game, video chat, and Rainbow Six Vegas 2 i have had very little use for the device. What’s worse is the PS2’s EyeToy only really had one good game ever released (Antigrav) and wasn’t supported well either.

This new motion control interface is interesting, but will sony support it strongly as that article suggests? I want a hardcore game experience on a new IP and at least 3 titles a year if not 5 that utilize it bare minimum until PS4. Can sony make that promise?

  • I can’t wait for fat princess and MAG…and inFAMOUS is awesome!!!

  • Great e3! Just one question, when is Fat Princess going to see a release date?

  • Most of the big talking points of E3 are from the PlayStation camp, awesome job. I feel privellaged to own a PS3 with the line up between here, christmas & Spring ’10.

Any news on a possible release quater for the new Gran Turismo gents?

  • When you’re ready to hire staff for Canada to match the competition’s presence (MS has at 2 staff, Canadian Forums, Canadian content, etc) send me the job posting!

  • Great E3 guys but im alittle sad some of my most anticipated games (God of War 3, White Knight Chronicles, Heavy Rain) wont make it till early nxt year.

Hey Jeff do you know if Dissidia, Persona, and Steamboat Cronicles will be available for download on the PSP Go.

    • Jeff Rubenstein

It\’s my understanding that just about everything hitting after October 1 will be available for download. Since those titles are all from 3rd parites (Square Enix and Atlus) I\’d have to ask them, most likely when we get closer to their release times.

  • Can’t wait for White Knight Chronicles. Jeff, didja get any sleep during E3?

  • phinnv8 “The PS3 is falling behind dramatically.”

    LOL!

    Get lost you pathetic troll.

Keep your retarded spam off this board.

  • just a little question, is someone at sony working on Divx upscale quality?
currently my old divx files don’t look that good on the PS3, vs my stand-alone dvd player.
i am sure the PS3 can do better with low-res files?

  • Thanks Jeff; the best E3 I’ve seen yet was this years.

    @14 – phinnv8 where have you been ?

Streaming internet radio has been available for awhile now on the PS3 with a piece of software from TVersity.

As for software, I think Sony is way ahead of the game now.

  • I started reading the Invizimals story and saw that it uses the PSP camera. Has the PSP camera attachment even been released within the U.S.?

  • I agree with everything phinnv8 said, and more. Microsoft is pushing the social aspect of their system with partnerships with Twitter, Facebook, Last.fm, and Netflix. I would love for Sony to do the same and build on their software offerings. I’m not talking about games when I say “software,” I’m talking about the features and applications inside the system itself. I love my PS3 and soon-to-get PSPgo, but I just wish the software offerings were a bit more full.

  • I agree with phinnv8 and rokkaku89redux… and i only own a ps3…

we really need more support from sony..

  • @15

PSN cards are coming to Canada June 2009. This has been confirmed to me by both the Playstation Experperience rep at my local BB and by my local EB Games.

EB will be the first place you can purchase them.

I was hoping that they would launch with E3 and an announcement of Video Store for Canada…but alas I’ve had to move on and buy another console to satisfy my desire to have VOD on my TV.

  • Sony ur E3 rocked… KEEP IT UP!!!!!!!!!

  • Jeff!!! How will they contact us for our Uncharted 2 Beta? You said by the end of Tuesday, but when I submitted my answer, they didn’t ask for E-mail, so then are you guys going to send a postcard?

  • Jeff I am having issues posting on the playstation forums….

it says its having trouble authenticating my playstation account.. and I dont know why.. theres nothing unusual about my account..

  • People wanna disagree with me and call me a troll yet the only console I own know is PS3 and I like it but its disappointing in some ways. Almost every website gives the nod to MS yet again this year on E3. Why is that? Sony isn’t listening to us, we want FEATURES not just games. They are doing a great job with games now, but the need to focus on OS features, that in term sells more games and consoles as people get the features they want and don’t gotto the competition. (which is looking better and better)

  • Awesome E3. I’m stoked for everything! :D

Only thing that kind of got to me was the the price point of the PSP go. I was wishing for $200 and I think $250 is a bit much. Regardless, I’ll get it but the $50 off would have been nice.

  • @40 Phinnv8+
and what good are those features to our games?

What good is having Facebook and Twitter on my PS3?

You can use both of those items on your PS3 with the web browser. Granted the PS3 browser could use a patch for facebook, but it does work.

We can already stream as we download a movie and have HD content.

I don’t see any of this being an aid to me in game either. If I find out any of you nuggets are using a feature like that while playing KZ2 and I die, you can bet I’m switching teams and hunting your butt down.

Explain the Wii vs X360 vs PS3, DS vs PSP?

Don’t get me wrong I like features, but the social networking features you’re making a big deal out of are really for children with no lives who never get out….. like felicia day. As cute as I think she is and as much as I love The Guild, she is not the Reason I own an X360 and a PS3. I also use my PS3 more than my X360 to the extent of almost throwing my X360 in the closet.

Yes more features are nice, but it isn’t going to help the PS3 by giving us features that my PC, cellphone, and netbook already give me.

  • i would like to know when are we gonna have the patch that the guys from zen studios promised us.also, too bad that the magic just losed the game tonite…they had a chance to win it all in the regular period but alas that wasnt meant to be.. just hope that they get their act together in orlando

as for feautures go, well i would like the ps3 top have more stability in its web browser because has great has the last update was,the browser keeps on freezing on me specially when i am reading the latest java/flash related sites. also, i would like the ps3 top be able to stream netflix because as good as the movie service from sony are, it is still too expensive for me to afford.besides, downloading movies/ shows from the psn would defeat the purpose of having netflix to me

so all in all, i hope that the next firmware update will come with some nice bell and whistles.make it happen sony! :0)

  • saw you at e3 jeff :)

  • Well find, you mindless fanboys keep making excuses why the “most powerful” and most expensive console on the market is falling rapidly behind in software features.

I’ll hit them where it hurts and spend my money on games for PCs and other consoles that are listening to what gamers want. At least, more so than I would have if PS3 did everything it should.
