PlayStation.Blog Goes Mobile

Posted by Jeff Rubenstein // Social Media Manager

You may recall our short outage last week; we were messing around with the servers here at PlayStation Central Command. By doing [whatever it is the engineers have done], we’ve enabled some new functionality. Reading the comments, a few of you have figured it out – the PlayStation.Blog is now mobile compatible.

The next time you head over to the blog from your PSP, Blackberry, or iPhone (or probably whatever mobile device you’re running, assuming it’s newer than a Star-tac), you’ll see a specially formatted, easy to read (and load!) version of the Blog. You can even comment; now you can tell us what you think from the comfort of your office restroom!

There’s no special URL to go to, just hit up the normal http://blog.us.playstation.com address, and our patented Internet Gnomes will do the rest. Please let us know if you’re experiencing any compatibility issues, and we’ll flog the Gnomes a little harder. It’s ok, they deserve it :-)

Hopefully I get a response on this but Monster Hunter Freedom Unit is out. Is there anyway that SCEA will wake up and put Ad Hoc party out here in the states or maybe realize they should integrate it in PS Home.

Why no word on Ad Hoc as of yet?

Saiks  |  June 29th, 2009 at 9:25 am

It does seem to work on the Palm Pre. Can you look into it?

Jeff,
I am unable to sign in with my account on the Google phone. Can you see what is up with that? I just try to sign in to test whether or not I can log in with my account on my phone browser.

jazzyrider  |  June 29th, 2009 at 9:42 am

Jeff– Thanks for the update. I tried this on my iTouch and works great!

One note: Can you optimize the login screen/process too? It seems its using the normal browser & graphics process and seems slow and clunky when logging in. Would be nice to see a faster login process.

My biggest concern for Sony’s mobile offerings is their browser. I truly hope the pspgo has a VASTLY improved web browsing experience because so far browsing the Internet on any current psp is nothing more than an exercise in frustration. I think it goes to show how far Sony is getting behind when it comes to answering the call of mobile Internet users needs. The iPhone’s web browser for example makes the current psp 3000 seem like a silly joke. Lack of a touch screen or any meaningful external controls while still charging $250 seems like a step in the WRONG direction to achieve these goals. Please Sony step up your game and make the pspgo competent!

I’m on my iPod touch right now… It was always possible to go to the website normaly and I actually like the regular one more so I alwa click the little button to change it back to normal and it gets kinda annoying

KILLZONE79  |  June 29th, 2009 at 9:49 am

Jeff, for iPod touch users can you add a home screen when we bookmark on our iPod touches?

OFF Topic-

Hulu is no longer working on the PS3 Browser.

Boo

117

Munkeh111  |  June 29th, 2009 at 9:53 am

I think the main thing to focus on now is improving the browsers, I never use my PS3 browser other than for the BBC iPlayer, and I think the iPod Touch browser is far superior to the PSPs, so if that is sorted out, I could remove 1/3 of the stuff I have to take on holiday once I get my Go. (It would be down to 1 devise if a PSP Phone came out….)

Anyway, this is quite useful as I have had some issues with the site in the past, keep up the great work.

And yeah, an iPhone app with your trophy information would be great

Nice work!

And now I see how this all connects, too. This will speed up development on the PS3 firmware!

1) Huge demand for certain features
2) Mobile blog
3) …
4) Cross-game party/voicechat!

Excellent!

Superpunk2u  |  June 29th, 2009 at 10:03 am

It’s not right to flog gnomes!

Not working with my LG Voyager. Not cool enough for an iphone because Verizon sucks BIG TIME! So I settled for this phone. Not happy now because although the loading took sometime before, the blog at least worked from my phone. :-(

Skater_Ricky  |  June 29th, 2009 at 10:08 am

I have seen this look about a month ago before it went mainstream :D I’m actually using my iPhone right now for it.. I vist the blog all the time for latest news everything playstation :D

127

quiomar01  |  June 29th, 2009 at 10:12 am

awesome. Now if only the browsers worked a bit better on the PSP and PS3. If only the PSP had a bit more RAM. Hey, PSPGo isn’t out ’til October. Think they might increase the RAM a bit on that version?

A fan can dream. …A fan can dream.

128

waffman11  |  June 29th, 2009 at 10:15 am

@Bildo818: Verizon? The iPhone uses AT&T service. Anyway, this sounds great, but I’m not trusting the internet with my PSP again. I just got my personal information wiped after browsing, and I could’t use it for a week. I thought that I would have to finally get a PSP-3000 and trash my phat PSP.

129

Emadeowa  |  June 29th, 2009 at 10:16 am

Awesome news thanks, oh btw you gotta love Gnomes. They get their little hands on everything and make it better… GO GNOMES!!!!

130

ilikemonkeys  |  June 29th, 2009 at 10:17 am

Wait… this is new? Nice then. I visited earlier on my iPhone and thought that this was how the blog always was.

131

HatmanTc  |  June 29th, 2009 at 10:24 am

wonder why it took you guys a a few days to announce this. i noticed this the 5 days ago. even tweeted about it.

132

madness23  |  June 29th, 2009 at 10:24 am

A PSN app for the iPhone would be wonderful! Especially if we could check our friends list status. I have a bookmark for the web version but it’s not the easiest to use. Functionality to sort by status is completely missing so you have to page through your friends list in alphabetical order.

I use RSS and check the blog daily but I’ll have to give this a try.

Wow! Thanks guys! I’m on my blackberry right now. Opera mini works great but the blackberry browser doesn’t let you sign in.

137

aschx  |  June 29th, 2009 at 10:39 am

I can’t login using my LG Vu!!!! But I love the new layout!

138

sentry-23  |  June 29th, 2009 at 10:42 am

One point though. Mobile navigation only works with newer/older. Why not add page numbers, or at least First/Last ?

143

lcmnick  |  June 29th, 2009 at 10:56 am

Why is Google as the search engine?

Shouldn’t you be using Bing? :P

144

rose_tyler18  |  June 29th, 2009 at 10:59 am

Just another person wanting to say that it has taken roughly 7 minutes for the blog to load on the PSP and now I clicked next to look at older posts and it seems that will take 7 more minutes or so as well.

145

Darkos87  |  June 29th, 2009 at 11:00 am

Btw Jeff the eye chat was amazing, it looks really easy to set up, very convenient (no need to travel all across the world if you want to talk to European developers for example) and the quality was superb.

If it becomes a monthly or 2weekly session it would be awesome.

what I love about podcasts and stuff is that every week you can look forward to sth to listen to/ watch.

keep up the good work (and show your comrades at eu blog the tricks of the trade alright/ :)

Please enable a selection of themes or colors for the iphone or mobile devices, its too bright in white…and I love how the grayish background with white text looks on the Official Blog…

147

mjman  |  June 29th, 2009 at 11:09 am

This is great! I use my iPod touch to check the blog a lot so this helps me out. I think it would be great to see you guys make an app like somebody said before.

148

NeoHumpty  |  June 29th, 2009 at 11:13 am

Wouldn’t let me sign in on my Blackberry Curve 8310 using Opera. Didn’t try the regular browser yet. Looks great, though. My toilet breaks will never be the same. Thanks a lot.
