WipEout HD Fury Expansion Pack Details

Posted by Daimion Pinnock // Producer, SCEA

Hi everyone! This is Daimion Pinnock, Producer for WipEout HD, back to introduce Game Director Tony Buckley. He’s here to tell you about a brand new expansion pack for WipEout HD, as well as its first showing this week at E3!

Hello everybody,

I’m Tony Buckley, Game Director for WipEout HD and I’m pleased to announce that the team here at Studio Liverpool have been busy working on a new expansion pack for your favourite anti-gravity racer.

And what’s more, it is set to be given its first public showing at this week’s E3 expo, so if you’re lucky enough to be attending, make sure you stop by and try it out!

WipEout HD DLC 1 WipEout HD DLC 4

WipEout HD DLC 6 WipEout HD DLC 3

The WipEout HD Fury expansion pack will increase the content of your current game with 8 new tracks, 13 new ship models and 3 new game modes, 2 of which will be available for online play! In addition there will be new trophies to attain, a re-styled front-end and a selection of new & improved multiplayer functionality!

The Eliminator game mode will allow you to release all that pent-up aggression as you use the full arsenal of Wipeout weaponry to destroy your opponents. Forget those racing lines; this is all about destruction, with the victor being the first to reach the target score!

Zone Battle is about risk and reward! Acceleration is automatic as you swoop over zone pads to fill your zone bar. Your choice is whether to use the bar to increase your speed and boost your ship ever closer to the target zone or absorb it to replenish vital lost energy. Warning, avoid the ‘zone barriers’, obstacles left on the track by your opponents as they boost towards the target zone, hitting these can literally destroy your hopes of victory!

Our Detonator mode introduces a brand new ship model to the game that will test both your piloting skills and your shooting accuracy as you accelerate through as many as 14 stages. Score points by destroying the mines that have been strewn along the track and take out the bomb on each stage to earn additional points. The more accurate you are the more points and bonuses you will score!

Just like the original WipEout HD, all the new content will be released in glorious 1080p resolution and will run at a smooth 60fps.

Take a sneak peek at the track and ship visuals in our WipEout HD Fury trailer and selection of screenshots.

Remember, Wipeout HD is available exclusively from PlayStation Store so check it out in readiness for the release of the Fury expansion pack coming this summer!

Awesome!!! I’ve been looking forward to an update for this. Haven’t really played it since I got Platinum.

I just hope the ‘Network Error’ problem will be fixed, I haven’t been able to get online for months. :(

TUSTIN1  |  June 1st, 2009 at 6:20 am

Might be just what I need to get back into WipeOut HD.

GREAT GAME! Anyone who hasn’t DL from the PS store should go right now!

Thank you for the DLC and the added trophies!

What is the cost going to be?

Sindred  |  June 1st, 2009 at 6:22 am

Count me in on that action… I just hope that to access the new material I don’t have to beat the single, because I simply cannot beat the last course. I am just not THAT good, hehehe. Love this game. Pump out RUSH Subdivisions while I play and it fits nicely. Can’t wait for this expansion.

Sindred  |  June 1st, 2009 at 6:25 am

Great news,can´t wait!

On a sidenote, the PS3 advertisement at the end of the last PS3 exclusives´ movies are much better than previous ones, with the PSN logo, the short and more catchy PS3 logo and of course the japanese robot´s saying. Stick with it I say :)

Kenshin71  |  June 1st, 2009 at 6:29 am

How much? Also since Liverpool are working with Evolution can you add a Wipeout HD style tournament mode to Motorstorm 2’s MP? Thanks.

This game’s incredible already, and ready to go at any time from the XMB (which I love about it), so it’s great that there’s more content on the way to enjoy. :)

16

jiggles  |  June 1st, 2009 at 6:36 am

8 new tracks?! Wow.

Even if that includes reverse layouts, 4 new racing locations is twice as much as I expected.

Awesome.

17

samich2007  |  June 1st, 2009 at 6:36 am

Are there new music tracks included?

Looks awesome, loved this game, although a glitch with the trophies means I can never unlock Zone Zeus even though I have completed 50 zones several times :(

21

hyperslug  |  June 1st, 2009 at 6:42 am

AWESOME!!! :D

you are more than doubling the game!

22

Pandoran  |  June 1st, 2009 at 6:44 am

Love the game, can’t wait for the add-on but for the moment the name of the music track would suit me just fine.

28

Ramage  |  June 1st, 2009 at 6:51 am

Expansion pack leads me to believe this will cost money…is this true?

I would ask how much but past responses tell me that you won’t divulge such information.

29

DenBjornen  |  June 1st, 2009 at 6:59 am

I am very very excited.
When is it coming out?
How much is the price?

30

LiQuiZoN  |  June 1st, 2009 at 7:00 am

If I go back and finish up the remaining few trophies for the platinum, i’ll definetly buy this.

31

ninjatuned  |  June 1st, 2009 at 7:03 am

Are these all new maps or maps from some of the previous games? I thought I saw a map from wip3out 3 in there.

Either way — whooo! I can’t wait to race again.

32

FreakerUK  |  June 1st, 2009 at 7:06 am

This is good news, more Wipeout is always a good thing :D
When are we going to see full vehicle cockpits ? ;)

33

HeavyD-Love  |  June 1st, 2009 at 7:10 am

AWESOME NEWS!! It should be no more than $9.99 and I’ll buy it for sure!!! Also, agree that Wipeout HD should be patched to be a little easier. DAMN it’s hard…

34

Revolutionary  |  June 1st, 2009 at 7:11 am

Thank you for bringing back Eliminator!

Any word if any of the “new” tracks are from previous games? I want some Gare de Europa!

35

mcx  |  June 1st, 2009 at 7:15 am

36

racedriving  |  June 1st, 2009 at 7:16 am

Please release WipEout HD on Blu-ray Disc.

With this new expension it would be welcome even more.

37

ExcelKnight  |  June 1st, 2009 at 7:18 am

Awesome, Eliminator’s back!

While I suck at this game compared to the PSP versions, I’ll definitely check this DLC out if only for that mode alone. It’ll be a ton of fun, I’m sure of it.

38

Fnook  |  June 1st, 2009 at 7:25 am

HOLY CRAP! Wow! This looks like an AMAZING expansion pak! Wow! Just.. Wow! I LOVED the eliminator mode from WipEout Pulse, and I’m OVERJOYED to see it make a come back for WipEout HD! Awesome! Can’t wait!

Thanks so much! ^_^
Very happy now..

TakiFuGu  |  June 1st, 2009 at 7:26 am

41

Luillin  |  June 1st, 2009 at 7:31 am

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

42

stlthriot  |  June 1st, 2009 at 7:35 am

Just out of curiousity, is this 8 actual tracks or 4 new ones with reverse of each?

43

StalkingSilence  |  June 1st, 2009 at 7:36 am

YES!!

44

Sekoku  |  June 1st, 2009 at 7:37 am

THAT’S GREAT BUT I STILL CAN’T PLAY ONLINE BECAUSE MY PSN ID IS GLITCHED ON YOUR SERVERS OR SOMETHING AND WON’T LET ME SIGN INTO WIPEOUT HD’S ONLINE MODE.

FIX THIS CRAP, SONY. I PAID $20 FOR ONLINE WIPEOUT AND I CAN’T FREAKING USE IT!?

CAPS TO SHOW MY RAGE. RAGERAGERAGERAGERAGERAGE.

It’s GOING ON TEN MONTHS and I haven’t been able to freaking play NOT ONCE during these ten months.

How about instead of the DLC dropping you fix people that are glitched?

45

jtc42  |  June 1st, 2009 at 7:42 am

I cant wait for this! New game modes look amazing and Im so glad eliminator is back!

But more importantly, WHAT SONG IS THAT!? I REALLY WANT IT!

46

Pudding84  |  June 1st, 2009 at 7:49 am

The song is Noisia – Maching Gun

47

domlolz  |  June 1st, 2009 at 7:49 am

YES!

48

Pudding84  |  June 1st, 2009 at 7:51 am

Noisia – Machine Gun :)

49

laZardo  |  June 1st, 2009 at 7:56 am

I hope Online Eliminator kills will count toward that 50-kill Silver trophy. It takes a lot of luck to even get one kill during an online match…

50

iRoy  |  June 1st, 2009 at 7:58 am

I’d also like to know if it is in fact 8 tracks total and NOT 4 reverse BUT if Sony is making us PAY for it then I’d like to think that we would be getting the better end of the deal.

To everyone complaining about difficulty: The game will only give you back what you put into it. If you pratice and play, especially online, you’ll get better. Tweaking the controls might help as well. And the glitch was fixed for me a few days after the last update, try out the game it should be working.
