Fallout 3 Downloadable Content on PSN

Hello PlayStation fans. I’m Ashley Cheng, a producer at Bethesda Game Studios, here to give everyone an update on when Fallout 3 DLC will be available via PlayStation Network.

Fallout 3 Anchorage PS3

We’re excited and eager to bring Fallout 3 DLC to PSN. Unfortunately, the content is going to be releasing later than originally expected. Our DLC expands on the original game tremendously — each DLC offering 4-6 hours of additional content — and is no trivial undertaking. Here’s a brief look at the DLC you’ll be able to play.

  • Operation: Anchorage (pictured above) – Enter a military simulation and fight in one of the greatest battles of the Fallout universe – the liberation of Anchorage, Alaska from its Chinese Communist invaders.
  • The Pitt (pictured below) – Journey to the industrial raider town called The Pitt, located in the remains of Pittsburgh and choose sides in the battle between the slaves and the slavers.
  • Broken Steel (pictured below) – Join the ranks of the Brotherhood of Steel and rid the Capital Wasteland of the Enclave remnants once and for all. Continues the adventure past the main quest and raises the game’s level cap to 30.
  • Point Lookout – Explore a massive new swampland area filled with new quests and content.
  • Mothership Zeta – The aliens have returned, and they’re pissed. Experience an alien abduction first hand and find out if you’re tough enough to survive.

Fallout 3 Broken Steel PS3 Fallout 3 - Pitt PS3

What can you expect from our DLC?

  • More Fallout 3 Goodness – More weapons, more creatures, more armor and outfits, more characters to interact with, and more loot. You’ll find all of these within the unique new locations of Broken Steel, Operation: Anchorage, The Pitt, Point Lookout, and Mothership Zeta.
  • DLC Trophies – Did I mention we’re supporting trophies in each DLC? This was a big priority for us and one of the reasons for the extra time needed. In the end, we think it’s worth the effort to bring trophies to the DLC.
  • Support for existing characters and saves – Once you’ve downloaded and installed the DLC, the content is accessible at anytime (once you leave Vault 101). You can play the DLC whenever you want — with one exception (see Broken Steel below).

So when can you expect Fallout 3 DLC? We are knee deep in testing at the moment, and we’re hoping to have the first DLC out by the end of September. That long? Keep in mind that not only do we need to test each DLC on PS3, we also need to test each DLC when used in conjunction with each of the other DLC, as well as all of them together, along with the entire original game.

I do have good news! We have decided that Broken Steel will be the first release since it is easily the most requested DLC from our fans. Broken Steel allows you to continue playing the game after completing the Main Quest, raises the level cap to 30, and includes 4-6 hours of additional gameplay. It is also the one DLC that requires you to finish the Main Quest from the game to play the new content. Regardless of whether you’ve completed the Main Quest, the level cap will already be raised and higher level characters will begin encountering some of the new enemies in the Capital Wasteland. For the release of Broken Steel and the other DLCs, we’ll release a new update for the game.

After Broken Steel, we’ll be releasing Operation: Anchorage and The Pitt shortly thereafter, probably at the same time – just to get them out to you as soon as we can. After that we’ll have Point Lookout and Mothership Zeta available as soon as we can, so that the wait between DLC is as short as possible. Once we release Broken Steel, we’ll have a better idea when the other DLC will be coming and will let you know specifics.

We hope you enjoy Fallout 3’s DLC. Thank you for your patience. They’ll be here before you know it.

  • Wait wait wait, september??? No thanks. If this had come out in June when it was supposed to do, i would have bought all 3, as there are no new games at that time of the year.

In september we go back into the quality games season, with Unchated 2…So…I’d rather buy that.

Should have released it in June.

  • Is the patch before the DLC comes with a fix to the old bugs already in the game?

  • Wow, with all the negative comments for Bethesda and all the comments stating how ps3 users won’t buy ps3 versions of their games or DLC, it seems sensible for Bethesda Softworks to stop making ps3 versions of their titles altogether.

  • @DonnyG
    “Bethesda owes you nothing?”
If we purchase their game, then they do owes us. Read the comment, we are piss off because the lied to us about the DLC not coming to the PS3.

  • @BlooodyCow

Perhaps – but even when people admit delays -(ie pain DLC, Harmonix Moving Pictures), people still went crazy (just like here).

I may just get Broken steel (or GOTY) – because I don’t like the way it ended.

  • I purchased Fallout 3 at release and after being forced to restart the game 3 TIMES due to different bugs after 15 minutes of gameplay each time I SOLD IT…to EB games by the way

First you say is not coming to PS3, then that we don’t buy DLC…how do you expect people to buy DLC when you release it so many months after, people have heard and seen enough of that DLC in forums and gameplay videos…ah yes, and for the same price

I’ll probably be picking up the GOTY next year when is really cheap, my money is for R&C, Uncharted and MAG and Demon’s Souls, a hardcore RPG with no DLC BS or special deals, no lies no nothing, the devs say it’s hard and not the RPG for everybody…maybe you shopuld learn something from that…to tell always the truth

  • wow looks like some ppl here need a hug or a cookie!

  • @150
When yo spend $60 on a game you are entitled to a nearly glitch free experience. Maybe you don’t give a crap but some people don’t like it when a developer craps out a port and comes back a year later trying to milk out a couple dollars by offering 4 month old DLC. How about you grow up and realize the value of the money you spend and what you should expect in return.

  • @ode2code
I would have respect them for tell us the truth and not try to BS us.

  • @Cerberus
Does the Cookie have rads? :)

  • >> Grow up you immature brats.

More like “grow up you immature developers.”

Timed exclusive DLC is the cancer killing games.

Same for pre-order bonuses that are exclusive at stores.

Retailers and Publishers aren’t your friends, game makers. THE GAMERS ARE. Therefore, treat them with RESPECT if you want them to BUY YOUR STUFF.

Going “Oh, we’re releasing a game on your console, but you don’t get our extra little goodies” is downright insultful. It isn’t a sense of entitlement, it’s goddamn common sense.

  • Finally, now Sony get Halo Reach or Halo 3 :D I been wanting to see how it feels to play a Halo game on a PS3 controller.

  • Unfortunately, I won’t be buying the game or the DLC because of the lack of support for the PS3 platform from the get go.

Also…September? Are you guys kidding me?
You should have been “testing” this DLC while you were pretending it was 360 exclusive.

  • i love you Bethesda! you guys do so much to your games that not much do so much work put on them.

Elder Scrolls is one of my favorite game series’s.

  • @Bethesda

There are many complaints as to why you guys just started to care about the ps3 game (DESPITE over a million copies on the ps3 alone)

So can you answer the complaints instead of ignoring consumers that were very happy to purchase Fallout 3 and would have happily purchased DLC for it

  • Well I have read all the comments of the community and it seems like you deserve what they are saying and I hope you take it into consideration if there is a future title.

With that said, I do have to give you guys credit for coming on the blog and taking it like a man/woman

  • Hello Ashley welcome to the Blog. As much as some people are complaining, I for one love Bethesda, though it makes me wonder with Oblivion being superior to the 360 version Fallout is ended up being not equal in terms of quality.

I will be getting the GoTY edition as soon as it hits shelves. Thanks for making great games, and supporting the PS3, but please give us at least equal treatment^^

Love all your work, keep up the amazing games.

  • @AlphaTribe2007
    “taking it like a man/woman”

It does not seems that way to me. They are skipping all the negative comments and weeding out all the post that praise them.

  • @162
Know the difference between developers and decisions made at the Publisher/Hardware level. The bile your spitting out makes you sound very ignorant.

  • And I agree, it shouldn’t be regular price when PS3 owners had to wait almost a year to play it.

  • sorry to have to say this ashley but its kinda BS to a certain degree with all the talk of a late june release, i mean that “They’ll be here before you know it.” line is rich now; isnt it?

DLC trophies: there mandertory so please dont make out like your doing us a favour.

Dont get me wrong mate this isnt another user bashing bethesda at all because i found fallout 3 one of the best games this gen by far but i got to agree that this is a bit of a kick in the teeth.

September… hmmmm? just around the corner you can say. NOT!

  • Ashley to me this is great news. I bought the Special Edition of Fallout 3 for the PS3 and I have been waiting for this DLC forever. I was just thinking that I would wait for the Broken Steel DLC so I could get the level cap and then enjoy the rest of the DLC. Thank you very much for this news I can’t wait till September.

Will there be any new songs on Three Dogs’ radio statio? what about being able to tune in Three Dog while in the DLC?

  • I rather wait for the GOTY Edition. Its probably the same price for it than if i download all DLC seperatly.

  • I’m sorry but I’ll pass you guys screwed over the playstation community with the DLC but also gave us the inferior version there is no excuse for that I bought my copy fallout 3 for 50 bucks at gamestop used because I knew you guys at bethesda wouldn’t receive a single cent next time treat your fans like equals and not like second class citizens

  • I’ll wait for the GOTY edition and hopefully this time it’ll be on pair with the 360 version unlike the other one where we got the shaft. Even though I know it’s not coming I would love a trophies patch for Oblivion, I’d definitely replay it.

  • End of September? Seriously? The end of September? You can forget about it. I will have moved on by then. I was so excited when it was announced for PS3 for the summer. How did it move from June to September?

  • It’s all politics PS3 owners have to accept. Microsoft gets first dibs on any DLC multiplatform. it’s where the $$ moula is. It probably was under consideration whether or not this was even going to be available for PS3! We’re lucky to see it at all, let alone september which sux.

  • I hope the sales of the DLC are not going to be looked at by Bethesda to determine if support for the PS3 platform in the future is a viable option or not.

Simply because the DLC will sell like garbage, and it is all Bethesda’s fault. You made it seem for the longest time that the PS3 was never going to get the DLC, resulting in a lot of PS3 owners selling their copy. On top of that, when you do announce the DLC, it gets delayed months on end. Also, charging full price for them, even though there is nearly a year difference between the DLC on both platforms?

  • I am indefinitely disappointed about this.by September?!you say!this is quite outrageous,in comparison to July I do hope that has been removed from Bethesda’s website..I boycott your dlc as of now.by that time i would rather enjoy other dlc content on other RPG’s.thanks but no thanks.I have had this game and now it is going on two years that hardly anything is going on with this game.but I knew alot of turmoil was going on when xbox 360 had received this DLC like it was a gift from the gods but nothing for the Ps3 besides hearsay and rumors as well as negative comments from Todd Howard and others that worked on fallout 3 this i know.which should not be.it is almost as my father would say to all this shadiness “put your money where your mouth is”

  • Are these images from the PS3 content? You can tell they are really detailed. Very High textures. Nice!

  • Thanks for bringing this over, but for your next game could you not treat your PS3 fans like second class citizens? For the loyal fans who buy your game day 1, and it be nice if you guys were there for us day and date.

  • Thanks, Bethesda, but [DELETED] YOU.

Ok, we get Broken Steel first, which makes all kinds of sense, but in September, after I resume one of the toughest graduate programs there is? Sorry, but hoping for late September is not a date; we know that “late June” was a crock of crap, what can we expect from a “hopeful” fall release?

I’m still gonna get the DLC because 1. I want it, and 2. It’s the only way to convince Bethesda to stop treating PS3 owners as 2nd class citizens. But now, I’m not going to be happy doing it.

  • That’s a significant delay, considering that I was expecting it two thursdays ago. At least Broken Steel will be coming out first….

  • IT SEEMS THAT THE PS BLOG MOD IS FROM Bethesda Softworks

  • The backlash on here is just ridiculous: The DLC is coming, hopefully it will be bug-free (unlike the Xbox 360 crash-inducing packs) and will all work together if you download each.

Fallout 3 is a massive game, and I can only imagine the difficulty it takes in adding content and then optimizing it for a system that is not at all like the PC.

Bethesda, I hope that the immature internet posts don’t reduce your enthusiasm for publishing on PS3: As a lifelong Fallout fan on PC – and without a massively-powered gaming PC – I love playing the game on my PS3.

People on here seem to be alot more upset with the publishers than the hard-working game devs at Bethesda. Be mad at the publisher, who determines which companies to partner with (see: MS), when games are released and which systems to target.

I for one will be getting all the DLC, but will hold off until details of the Game of the Year edition are revealed.

  • big delay considering was operation was announced for June :(

very long time to wait also if end of sep not going to get played considering be close to
    Modern warefare 2 release

  • Thank you for the update which was nicely written not like the socom updates…

I appreciate your company being straightforward and letting us know.

That said I don’t appreciat this time exclusive. I know it’s business but it puts a shadow over your company with Sony fans.

  • @ 17 Response from Ashley
“The pricing for DLC on PSN is the same as it is on the other platforms.”

WTF CAN YOU ANSWER THE FREAKING QUESTION? THIS ISN’T ONE OF THE “OTHER PLATFORMS” IN CASE YOU HAVEN’T NOTICED. SOME OF US AREN’T AWARE OF THE PRICE BECAUSE SOME OF US DON’T OWN THOSE OTHER PLATFORMS. WHERES YOUR PROFESSIONALISM?

  • Gosh there sure are a bunch of whiners out there.

Just because Bethesda made a deal with Microsoft for a timed exclusive for DLC is no reason to act so negatively. It happens all the time in business, get over it. Bethesda deserves to make money, and if Microsoft is willing to give them money for exclusivity, they have every right to do so.

The fact that there has been very little exclusive PS3 content should be more of a concern. It shows who wants to sell consoles and who doesn’t.

  • Sorry but when you delay a release this long “The pricing for DLC on PSN is the same as it is on the other platforms.” is insulting.

You fail to release it the same time as other versions…you damn well reduce the price.

  • There’s no reason to release DLC now. It would have been a lame move in June, but starting to release it in September with the Game of the Year Edition hitting at the end of October with all the DLC included is just ridiculous.

Seriously, who is going to buy the DLC for this game? If it’s not $20 or less I’ll just wait for the GOTY. You guys need to get your DLC pricing under control. Did you know that Shivering Isles is still $25 on the Playstation Store but Oblivion GOTY is $19.99 everywhere?

  • I’m very excited for this! Now I have to go and finish all the other missions, now! Hehe, j/k, but I am going to continue in order to get ready for the new DLCs, especially Broken Steel! I know about the Puppy Perk; can’t wait for that! I got Dogmeat killed after I forced him to stay when there was a Robot nearby… I miss him!

  • Got the plat, sold it back, so sorry too slow, too glitchy. When a game freezes nearly every time you play it, maybe you should patch it, swing and a miss, strike three.

  • I can’t tell you how freaking excited I am for this DLC!

I send my thanks to you Ashley and the all the fine folks at Bethesda

  • @183 ski_bumm
You do know that Bethesda both develop and publish this game right? We have all right to be pissed at them.

    @187 geekdadcanada
Read people comment. People are pissed off because they were lied to about the DLC. They were told that their will not be any DLC on the PS3. Then they was told that the DLC would be release in June for the PS3. Now it is push all the way to September and it will cost the same amount of money as the PC and Xbox 360 version. That is F@##ing BS and you know it. Why should the wait 9+ months later and have to pay full price without addition contents?

  • any word on a anti aliasing patch for the game?

  • Bethesda can kiss my A$$ !
You might as well be working for free because I aint paying for nothing from bethesda.

Not only did you make a buggy, glitchy, game but the story is boring and fresh out of ideas.

I hope you read this bethesda, the playstation nation dont like you. Fallout 3 is a waste of the bluray it came on. Go back to the 360 pigs.

  • You guys are ungrateful [DELETED]. Thanks bethesda and the dev team for bring this to PS3. Fallout 3 is my favourite PS3 game and I cant wait to buy the new DLC…

  • Its funny. These devs think DLC is a huge favor to us & then we sould be happy at the oppurtunity of buying it.

Bethesda has lost its goddam mind.

  • anyword on fixing the broken game?
I got glitched out of project purity but dont worry, I bought this game used at gamestop anyways.
