Fallout 3 Downloadable Content on PSN

Hello PlayStation fans. I’m Ashley Cheng, a producer at Bethesda Game Studios, here to give everyone an update on when Fallout 3 DLC will be available via PlayStation Network.

Fallout 3 Anchorage PS3

We’re excited and eager to bring Fallout 3 DLC to PSN. Unfortunately, the content is going to be releasing later than originally expected. Our DLC expands on the original game tremendously — each DLC offering 4-6 hours of additional content — and is no trivial undertaking. Here’s a brief look at the DLC you’ll be able to play.

  • Operation: Anchorage (pictured above) – Enter a military simulation and fight in one of the greatest battles of the Fallout universe – the liberation of Anchorage, Alaska from its Chinese Communist invaders.
  • The Pitt (pictured below) – Journey to the industrial raider town called The Pitt, located in the remains of Pittsburgh and choose sides in the battle between the slaves and the slavers.
  • Broken Steel (pictured below) – Join the ranks of the Brotherhood of Steel and rid the Capital Wasteland of the Enclave remnants once and for all. Continues the adventure past the main quest and raises the game’s level cap to 30.
  • Point Lookout – Explore a massive new swampland area filled with new quests and content.
  • Mothership Zeta – The aliens have returned, and they’re pissed. Experience an alien abduction first hand and find out if you’re tough enough to survive.

Fallout 3 Broken Steel PS3 Fallout 3 - Pitt PS3

What can you expect from our DLC?

  • More Fallout 3 Goodness – More weapons, more creatures, more armor and outfits, more characters to interact with, and more loot. You’ll find all of these within the unique new locations of Broken Steel, Operation: Anchorage, The Pitt, Point Lookout, and Mothership Zeta.
  • DLC Trophies – Did I mention we’re supporting trophies in each DLC? This was a big priority for us and one of the reasons for the extra time needed. In the end, we think it’s worth the effort to bring trophies to the DLC.
  • Support for existing characters and saves – Once you’ve downloaded and installed the DLC, the content is accessible at anytime (once you leave Vault 101). You can play the DLC whenever you want — with one exception (see Broken Steel below).

So when can you expect Fallout 3 DLC? We are knee deep in testing at the moment, and we’re hoping to have the first DLC out by the end of September. That long? Keep in mind that not only do we need to test each DLC on PS3, we also need to test each DLC when used in conjunction with each of the other DLC, as well as all of them together, along with the entire original game.

I do have good news! We have decided that Broken Steel will be the first release since it is easily the most requested DLC from our fans. Broken Steel allows you to continue playing the game after completing the Main Quest, raises the level cap to 30, and includes 4-6 hours of additional gameplay. It is also the one DLC that requires you to finish the Main Quest from the game to play the new content. Regardless of whether you’ve completed the Main Quest, the level cap will already be raised and higher level characters will begin encountering some of the new enemies in the Capital Wasteland. For the release of Broken Steel and the other DLCs, we’ll release a new update for the game.

After Broken Steel, we’ll be releasing Operation: Anchorage and The Pitt shortly thereafter, probably at the same time – just to get them out to you as soon as we can. After that we’ll have Point Lookout and Mothership Zeta available as soon as we can, so that the wait between DLC is as short as possible. Once we release Broken Steel, we’ll have a better idea when the other DLC will be coming and will let you know specifics.

We hope you enjoy Fallout 3’s DLC. Thank you for your patience. They’ll be here before you know it.

  • Why should I, a gamer who pays the same amount of money for your game have to wait for DLC months later and even when you finally decide to give us these DLC, we still have to wait for the DLC the ‘other’ console is already getting. Release the latest DLC you’re working on the same day for people that bought your game, including PS3 owners, then may be I will consider buying your product.

Otherwise I’d rather spend it on games and content that do come on time and it’s not like the PS3 doesn’t have a lot of great games coming that I should play some lametastic DLC late that actually sucked in the first place.

  • Thanks Bethesda… don’t listen to these guys, a lot of them do the same thing when the ps3 weekly updates come out. Please don’t think the entire ps3 community is like this, it’s not, just internet forums always sees the majority of complainers and cry-babies. I pick a part the whiners on every update for being spoiled ungrateful kids. I am 30 and am a programmer myself (not games unfortunately, so i know the hell testing can be!!!!, and the looong hours of working till 4:00AM and coming back at 9:00AM)

I was pissed about your deal with M$ and made it known on your official forums, which is where these people should of done it. But that was when we weren’t getting anything. I am glad you are releasing this and doing it right. Thank you for that and please ignore these ignorant complainers, they don’t represent the entire ps3 community!

  • BTW…..Thanks for Daggerfall for free on PC…. am loving the oldschool goodness of that game…brings back found memories!!! But I have to ask..WHEN IS THE ELDER SCROLLs 5 going to be made? I really hope you are working on that now and not fallout 4 as Elder Scrolls are fantastic. I bought 2 copies one for pc to play mods and one for ps3 to play on my couch on the big screen… Please please announce Elder scrolls 5 soon and make sure to not accept any more back alley micosoft deals. The community is all up in arms over that… but again thank you for coming to your senses and bringing this DLC out to us.

Ashley Cheng is just here to answer the easy questions and ignore the criticism that Bethesda deserves.

Why was the PS3 Verion not as good as the Xbox 360 version?

Why did you turn your back on the PS3 user base when it came to DLC?

How did it feel to sale your soul to Microsoft?

  • omg finally fallout3 dlc comes out for ps3 been waiting for this for a while now thank you Bethesda =)

  • I wish Fallout played more like traditional FPSs..know what i mean? without the clunky feeling, i’d say polish fallout with a more shooter feel and scrap the whole 3rd person view…unless it played like uncharted 3rd person…DLC is late as hell, you think they really wanted to announce it though? At least it’s coming, hopefully they will drop the price because with modern warfare 2, uncharted 2, and God of War 3 coming…who really is going to be that excited? lol although i am glad to see it coming, cya

  • Also, why are so many people upset with Bethedsa? I mean a lot of companies disregard ps3..business=money, you do whats healthy for your company…don’t you remember morrowind was xbox exclusive, they have a great partnership…deal with it

  • I would have been interested months ago but since we got timed DLC, that is way too late, I already sold the game. I still find it hard to believe that a reskinned Oblivion could run so poorly on the PS3. Especially since Oblivion was superior to the 360 version.

Oh well, lesson learned. Don’t buy Bethesda games on the PS3.

  • “Production Director” Eh dude?, could you tell the “Feedback Operative Executive In Charge Manager Of the Grand Dildo” that we are not being heard in the Bethesda forum about Your Broken Games?(Not broken Steel) BROKEN GAMES.

You have moderators deleting “uncomfortable” comments every day, How dare you?, you gave nothing but unfinished games, and then you act like proud dorks, using a soft euphemism.

You really have some nerve Bethesda, I bought your Oblivion GOTY and I’m still trying to walk 30 meters until some bizarre glitch happens.

Why don’t you try Phyre engine instead of gamebryo?

Are you for real? why don’t you work directly for the MTV or Michael Bay or something? You are a public shame.

    Good day.

  • Ok. I’m going to ask a a question, and I’ll try really hard to not sound like an ***hole.

Why the did you neglect PS3 gamers on such a great game? Honestly, why did you take Microsofts money? Not everyone likes (as a customer) to be treated like s***.

Please, atleast give us discount or a special time where DLC is free. Because you got your millions of MS tainted dollars, it won’t hurt to lose a few thousand.

  • Wow, I can’t believe the number of hypocritical people that post on this board. There’s plenty of love for devs that support only the PS3 (whether because Sony owns them or the money is good) but if someone supports anyone else, then they’re horrible and they hate gamers. Really?

If any of you had any idea how businesses worked, then the comments section of this site would be much more tolerable. Businesses are around to make money. Period. If you can ink a deal to make you a TON more money than you would make releasing the same content on multiple systems at the same time, you would take it too. The content is still coming out. It may have taken awhile, but so what? If it was that important to get it early, you buy the 360 version. If you don’t want to spend the money on another system, then you wait. The price is not going to be any cheaper for you because of the wait. They still have people they have to pay for the work that was done.

  • when will the broken steel DLC be released?

  • Hey Jeff, pass the following message to Bethesda for me:

    SCREW YOU!

  • @311, No, Bethesda does not deserve this kind of Damage Control, or “Welcome to reality” demagogy.

They were really undeserving, unrespectful, Zero feedback, Close minded, are you nuts?

  • All I have to say is: Yay, yay, yay! So it’ll be a bit longer than expected… Fine by me. And they were gracious enough to inform us. The first one will be broken steel which is awesome sauce.

  • after waiting half a year the dlc is finally going to been release. bethesda u are a bunch of [DELETED] for making that with microsoft. if its going to be release on september will [DELETED] it im not going to buy the dlc. i hope the dlc is going to be release before summer break ends. but still u suck bethesda [DELETED] u. u have no support from us. ps metal gear solid 4 is 2008 game of the year.

  • “DLC Trophies – Did I mention we’re supporting trophies in each DLC? This was a big priority for us and one of the reasons for the extra time needed. In the end, we think it’s worth the effort to bring trophies to the DLC. ”

Wait, what? One of the main reasons for the delay is something that is mandatory? Did you forget to put them in and then have to delay it 3 months??

    >.<

  • alright what’s with all the bethesda bashing. I mean they gave us elder scrolls and they’re apparently coming out with two more games besides fallout. Okay, so they had a deal with microsoft, but don’t you think they lost money trying to satisfy PS3 users. I mean seriously, I have lost some faith in the company but they have turned back around to try to help us out….afterall new DLC (should)= new patches to fix glitches and bugs and so forth.

Furthermore they can’t use Phyre because it is PC and PS3 only. I think they should have used Unreal or ScaleForm but it still ended up fine (in my opinion).

If the game was really that bad, then why do you still have it…I’ll tell you why; it’s because you know that you had a little bit of faith left in the Bethesda Company.

  • I can’t believe how much love is directed to one soulless, impervious company.

(…)”don’t you think they lost money trying to satisfy PS3 users”

I’m sorry to quote you but, games on the PS3 are very profitable to developers, there’s no piracy yet, one copy played is one copy sold.

Besides, anyone can use Phyre look at the license, look at the ease to code, “They should have used unreal”, Yeah, that engine that makes everything looks like a gelatinous mess, Right.

I’m sorry, can’t agree. They are lazy, they are cheap mercenaries. Anyone thinks the same?

  • I will try to say this as nicely as possible.
Bethesda: I personally you made a mistake. Not only did you say that Fallout 3 will not recieve any DLC, you then refuse to even give us a simple patch to fix all of our issues. We have to many visual andd technical glitches to even count. You really need to see things as we PS3 players see it. We believe that you, to put it bluntly, screwed us over. You refused us access to DLC until over half a year since the Xbox 360 recieved it. You can hardly think that we would not feel “left-out”. Honestly, Bethesda, what were you thinking? If rumors are correct, you were under contract by Microsoft. Regardless, you should have been developing it for us. Honestly, I hope that you learn your lesson when you make Elder Scrolls V. Don’t take this the wrong way! I am only providing constructive criticism, I personally love your games. I am the happy owner of Fallout 3 and Elder Scrolls IV. I am merely suggesting that you…rethink your proccess to release DLC. I will just throw this out there: If (and hopefully when) you release Elder Scrolls V, please release DLC (if you decide to) at the same time. That you for reading this ridiculously long comment!

  • @ GregAshlin

I had no problem personally that it went to the 360 first. M$ paid for it, so thats how it goes. But why weren’t both versions of the game the same? Why is the PS3 version very bad? And why quiet on and if we were getting the PS3 version? This is what is bugging most people. Although some here are just being idiots.

  • While I’ve been glad to know that the DLC is finally coming to PS3, shame on Bethesda for not releasing it at the same time as it was for the 360. By the time it’s all said and done, the wait will be nearly 3/4 of a year. I don’t mind personally, but I’m sure as you noticed that there’s an irate group among the ps3 faithful who’ve become sworn enemies of Bethsoft and will not be buying the DLC at all and this will hurt sales somewhat, especially b/c many good games will be released on the ps3 near that time window as the holidays start to roll by.

  • BTW, people are still pissed about all the DLC that Oblivion never received on the ps3 side of things. Please work on that if there’s any time after Fallout 3. Again, casualties of war I suppose. Why all this 360 favoritism? Console’s a POS. I own one, but only reluctantly.

  • Lastly, I don’t care HOW late you guys are…just do it right. Keep the bugs to a bare minimum and I’ll not speak ill of your belatedness.

  • well why not just work on getting the GOTY for ps3 users before x box to make it up?

  • WAY TOO LATE, NO BUY…

Theres other reasons and I’d be happy to go into them

1)I don’t support companies that won’t release expansions at the same time across platforms, the inital release can be different, the extra content CANNOT.

2)I don’t support companies that make such drastic error in release date, Isn’t this the game where the content was expected for the end of June? Who cares if theres no trophies if it brings the content sooner.

3)My content for Fallout 3 ended way earlier and I won’t be going back to the game for any reason. The point of DLC is to keep the gamer hooked before they move on. I’ve moved on and don’t make a plan on returning.

Sorry Bethesda, maybe I’ll find the courage to return but its pretty much been shot in the foot @ trophy patch.

  • Yeah WTF is with the delay. I know you got to fix the bugs but why not fix the whole PS3 version of the game. I payed $60 for this game and you [DELETED] me graphicly. PS3 is my pride and joy when everyone of my friend (except Blaine) has a 360 and I laugh at them. Then you go and screw me like this. I’m going to buy the DLC but I’m not going to be freaking happy about this [DELETED]. I got a question. Why are you people microsoft [DELETED]? another one… Are you fixing the graphics? You better not have it on PSN for $10 a pop. It’s half the game so it should be 1/2 price or more because all of this [DELETED]. I mean $1.99 – $4.99 range.

  • This gives me more time to work on the campaign so that I might be able to actually finish it before any of those are released. I swear, I have put in over 60 hours on this and only have 17% of the Trophies. Not only am I slow, but this game is just too fun and deep that’s it impossible for me to rush through it. Whether or not Bethesda Game Studios is getting this out A.S.A.P. and/or it ends up buggy, there is no doubt in my mind it will be amazing. I will be sure to purchase the Broken Steel for sure.

  • Now lets say you people are developers and you make this new high-tech gps system that will work on a ford and a bmw, but you know that to make it work on the bmw it will take you a year but it will work on the ford right away. Would you wait a year and realease your product on both cars or will you make a one year exclusive agreement and get extra money to keep your company running???? I think bethesda it’s not playing the favorite console game they playing the I’m a smart developer game!! Plus they are not the only ones from what I read rockstar have a time exclusive dlc agreement too and maybe they will realease the dlc later for the ps3. And I know that all you people that say “I won’t buy the dlc” will be the first ones to buy it went it comes out… …. You know what you guy are right you wont buy the dlc went it comes out…. You will buy the GOTY edition and you know it!!! Soo stop lying to yourself and stop crying yourself to sleep at night, grow up because this kind of immature action it’s what have them thinking that dlc won’t sell on ps3.

  • Moan OMGWTF!!! I fell be trad, and sad. You said late june, but first of july steel no DLC.
What makes Xbox so special? you have playstation fans to. I might as well go sell my copy of Fallout3 on Ebay, and use the money to buy the GOTYE,but that’s probably what you were wanting us to do right, why have us give you fifty bucks for five DLC’s for ten dollars each when we could give you another sixty dollars, lick how we bought the regular game. I love Bethesda games but im just sickened,Again i ask you what makes Xbox so special?(Elder scrolls has a bunch of MODS for it on Xbox why dosn’t ps3) I mean Fllout3 came out for both platforms and PC at the same time. So why is it that PS3 fans like me have to what longer teal we get the expansions? Please please hurry.

  • sprsynjn you are right this game it’s fun and deep i’m on my second play trought and i don’t think i have fully explore the all wasteland….just to big, blowing people heads off never gets old either!!

  • RyanMcBainDOTcom

    @327

Wow, I guess you like bending your ankles and having Bethesda go to down on you. Hope they bought you dinner first.

There was no reason why PS3 owners shouldn’t have received a equal version of Fallout 3, and the DLC at the same time Microsoft got it.

  • Wow not until September what other great game comes out around that time?
    Oh yes,but I won’t say it because its not a Sony game.lol

  • No one buy this, Bethesda need to be held accountable for disrespecting the hand that feeds them. If your going to buy it, grab it second hand so Bethesda don’t see a dime.

Let’s see how you guys have treated PS3 owners.

    -Crappy port of Oblivion
    -Crappy port of Fallout
-Timed exclusive of Fallout 3 DLC.
    -Taking cheques from M$
-Telling lies in various interviews including IGN.
-Lying about the June release date for the DLC.
-Lousy QC department (games are full of bugs and glitches)

You guys are lazy devs, and don’t deserve our money (well my money at least). The point of being a multiplatform developer/company is to be equal on both platforms, not give us sloppy seconds to strike deals with other companies to satisfy your pockets. I hope all your other future games flop.

Take a page out of Naughty Dogs book. Treat your fans with respect and hold them in high regard and your fans with return the favour.

  • @327 ramos0749
First I will never be in business because I do not like being or screwing people over. I go by the saying “treat others as you wish them to treat you.”

Second. I will not buy these DLC because they screw us over and I am going to screw them over by not purchasing this over price cr@p. Full price for something that is going to be 9+ months late? I will also not buy the Game of the Year edition, prefer to buy other games coming out that is worth my money.

  • @317 cjgrimmreaper
Turn back and help us? how exactly are they helping us? With over price DLC that is going to be 9+ months late? Not fixing the 100’s of issues that is in Fallout 3 including freezing every 10-20 minutes? Yep that helping the consumer out alright.
I traded that game in as soon as I got all the trophies. Go and I got it used just to screw them over. I hated buy games used, but they deserved it. Everyone, except one person on my buddy list still have this game.

  • @311 GregAshlin
You are talking out of your azz. Did you see the comment directed at IG after we found out about the Ratchet and Clank preorder store exclusive BS? I guess not, you head was too far up your azz. Why don’t you go see the recent post about LittleBigPlanet DLC and the comments in that blog post?

So you saying that it is ok to screw over your consumer and lying to them? How would you like to buy a new car and be told that you will have a year free of maintenance and oil change. Only to later find out that it isn’t happen and you have to pay to maintain your car within that year you was suppose to get free maintenance?

  • No rush…I already got it on PC for free ;)

  • Bethesda would have to come over and punch me in the face before I’d stop buying their games. Still, please don’t let this happen again, few people are as patient and forgiving.

Oh, and if you’re still reading this, keep it up with the DC/MD references, I love spotting them.

  • @ Spathis

I find the Oblivion version of PS3 to be better than the 360. Least engine wise. We didn’t get the DLC of course, but at that time, PSN was still in the womb so to speak, so I don’t blame Bethesda there.

And don’t forget, Naughty Dog is owned by Sony, so of course they are going to treat the PS3 fan base good. You should all make your comparisons with a third party companys, not a first.

  • I can’t wait. i really enjoyed FO3. I’m happy the decision was made to release all the DLC. I will gladly pay for each of the content. FO3 provided by far the best bang for your buck.

  • wat date does the DLC Broken Steel come out?

  • too little, too late.

  • LOL! Bethesda thought posting this on the blog would get great comments about it..but they should have known they were going to get backlash from this. I wonder why this rep has not responded back to anything negative about this? Thats a typical company for you. they dont want to respond to the negative comments and thats bad for a company. Shows you dont have any concern for those who are angry at your company.

  • What, you think it makes sense for them to embroil themselves in a Bethesda hatefest? What kind of professional, aside from Joe Siegler (if you would call him a professional) would do that?

Their job is to get information out, not reply to people calling them names.

  • People here are acting like children, so I guess I’ll get into it, too.

OMG Ashley ur sooooo cute sos Todd I saw u in the making of fo3 thing im totes gonna marry u when i grow up LOL!!!!

Do u like me???? (check one)
    [] Yes
    [] No
    [] Maybe

    <3 XOXO <3

  • @344 megs1120
So you are telling me that people should not be upset and piss-off because they were screwed over and lied too? If you like being bend-over by these developers and take it up the azz, then more power to you. But do not criticize other for showing their frustration because the got screwed over by these guys.

  • I bring up Tales of Vesperia because last year, when the rep from Namco came on here and announced Eternal Sonata for PS3, she was attacked in a similar fashion. People saying they weren’t going to buy a year old port, at full price, and that Namco “sold out” by putting TOV on 360. Well, I guess people were true to their words, because ES sold more on 360 than PS3, and I blame that on this silly attitude I see. See, the point is, there’s been no announcement of TOV for NA yet. Now, while I hope we get it, if we don’t, I’ll bet you the reason is 360 vs PS3 ET sales. If a company can make more money supporting 360 than us, they will. If we show them they can make a strong profit on PS3, they will support us more. Like it or not, that is how business works.

  • I can’t believe you guys aren’t ashamed of yourselves after seeing the way your competing developers run a company. Look at NIS, a company with great, stable titles with DLC regularly, deadlines that get stuck to, and overall, and the image that their customers are valued and each complaint is taken to heart.

However, I refuse to purchase from a company that takes bribes to release content on other platforms months early and then have the gall to ask full price for the content after it’s stale and already been played and beaten by the 360 community. What’s more, this is the second delay. How can you expect anyone to care anymore when you keep disappointing?

  • I might as well wait for Fallout New Vegas. At Least Blackisle and interplay are behind that one. not these Nazi
