Fat Princess: Her Majesty Awaits…

Deborah Mars's Avatar + Posted by Deborah Mars on Jul 17, 2009 // Managing Producer, SCEA Santa Monica Studio

Hey Everyone,

This is Deb Mars, Managing Producer at SCEA Santa Monica Studio. We know many of you are anxiously awaiting the sweet PlayStation Network arrival of none other than Her Royal Highness: Fat Princess.

You have been very patient, and we really do appreciate all your support. Since E3 back in early June, we and the fantastic development team at Titan Studios have been working very hard to get the fine lady and her beloved subjects all ready for their much-anticipated debut.

So here’s the deal: We have tons of info to share with you, but we want to take this opportunity to let you all ask the questions. So, go ahead…ask us. Let us know what you want to know.

Post questions below in response to this blog entry, and then we’ll gather a bunch of them to put forth to Titan Studios. They will answer these questions directly during a PlayStation Eye video chat interview with our good pal, Jeff R, next week.

Enjoy some of the new screenshots, and we’ll be seeing you on the battlefield soon!

Will this game utilize the HOME service and features such as game launching, clothing, or a HOME space?

Do you believe in the cake or is it in fact, a lie?

Does the Cake come in many flavours? (assuming of course it’s not a lie)

If the Cake is just a Lie the princesses must be eating Pudin then?

If you’re planning local co-op, will it be split-screen or in the same screen (after all you get a good view of what’s happening)?

I have one big question which I’ll state in paragraph form:

Basically I think the game looks/sounds/is awesome. My problem resides in the fact that I don’t have that many “real” friends on PSN (they’re all poor). So what’s my incentive to drop into a match with a bunch of strangers?

Question Jeff should ask if he so chooses: The game looks to have a lot of focus on team effort, how has this been compensated for people who just jump in a game by themselves?

Will there be like a one minute planning stage or is everyone just gonna get thrown in and start doing whatever the heck they want?

I actually have a few questions:

-Custom soundtracks?
-1080p?
-PlayStation Home support of any kind (game launching, rewardable items, spaces, etc)?
-DLC?
-Splitscreen multi-player (local and/or online)?
cost?
Platinum trophy?
how many trophies?
In before the end of august?
anything else interesting you would like to say?

Thanks again for you awesome support for the fans.

1080p isn’t necessary for a game like this. o_o
720p should work just fine. o_o

Can you PLEASE put in split-screen or tell us if it is remotely possible?

Can you give us a solid time frame for the release date?

Can you please tell us if you are going to support the game with things like DLC?

Can you please respond to this post?

Can I once again reiterate how badly I want split-screen in this game?

Can you also, please give a price point? I am not sure how much to put onto my account and need to know ASAP. Please, give us a price point, I am hoping for $10.

Thank you for the support and for the fantastic-looking game

And what are your thoughts about splitscreen/ local multiplayer play??? Will the game support it? PLEASE

Some of my questions

-Will the game have clan support?
-Customizable controls?
-Platinum trophy
-Release date?
-Female Avatars? (besides the Fat Princess herself?)
-Friend invites?
-Private rooms?
-1v1 Gladiator matches?
-Is the an option for proximity chat? So you can hear the enemy, or possibly taunt your friends while playing them? :)

+ MarinoBrea on July 17th, 2009 at 4:47 pm said:

I know it’s pointless to ask for date or price so:

1. Games modes? little description of them, thanks.

2. Can we level up each class? do they become better, more specialized?

3. Can we create our own custom battlefields and play online on them?

4. Besides the weapons each class wields and magic, are there any mechanisms, transports, barriers, or something to use for denfending/attacking in the game?

5. Online gameplay only questions:

a) Will there be a lobby with invite options and the usual?

b) Will there be voice communication?

c) How many players at the same time in the largest map?

d) Will there be official dedicated servers? Will you have servers depending on player ranks?

e) Are there any medals, awards, ribbons etc. to collect for your online performance?

This needs to be released NOW! :)

&Here are my questions:
– Is there a party system?
– Online/Offline split-screen multiplayer?
– How many game modes are there?

Thanks! :)

I think video uploads is a poor priority. People make crappy videos, that’s a given, and Screenshots are easier and better to share than having loads of stupid videos of noobs playing the game. Screenshots saved to the hard drive is higher priority. I demand it! Maybe not in this game, but I do!

Question:
Can characters eat cake?

Who doesn’t love a little counter-productive player modification…

Last question, Release Date?

You have so little questions because all of us are ready for the game. We weren’t expecting to still be asking questions this late.

I’m asking this because my brother and I share a PS3 and both of us are really anticipating this game. If there is, it would save us a LOT of arguments/fights.

Thanks,
Peter.

This question has been on my mind a lot recently…

with the PSP version coming out, have you guys forgotten about the PS3 version?
I find it quite to ridiculous to hype up a game, announce a June release, then leave all us potential customers in the dust.
You know we love this game and absolutely cant wait to play it!
But why cant you simply tell us at least “we’ll need another month so we can _________”, instead of keeping quiet,

also:
WHENS THE RELEASE DATE!!!!!!1!!!!!one

i will be getting it anyway, but i fear for the success of the game because of the time frame in which it will be released

1) will there be advanced/second jobs i.e. job ranks higher (and most likey more powerful) than an archer, priest, mage, etc.? if so, how will you implement it since we can change jobs right off the bat (by picking up the hats)?

2) is there a variety of weapons and armors? it doesn’t have to be really deep like an mmorpg. hope there is, though.

3) what are the things that will keep us not bored of this game? are there any environment factors when it comes to the levels?

4) how long is the single-player campaign? does the online/offline support split-screen? if so, up to how many players? is there co-op in this game?

5) is there custom soundtrack support? I wanna listen to “Making Love Out Of Nothing At All” while killing some folks :p also, please give us an option to mute all players.

6) given that this is a worldwide release, are the servers region-locked? will i be able to play with my friends who are in Asia (i’m in Canada)?

7) Is there an exp point system? if so, what are the ways that we can use our exp points? i’m assuming there are no stat points since we can basically renew jobs by changing hats.

8) how many trophies will there be? any platinum?

9) and for an extra, will there be screenshot support?

thanks for your time. i hope one of my questions gets answered. :)

Here are several answers to your questions that have ALREADY been answered and discussed by Titan Studios, creators of Fat Princess for the Playstation Network.

I have gone through EVERY posting in this blog up until I posted to save you ALL time inclding Titan Studios. I didn’t neglect any posts.

I will not assume I know the answer to anything, the answers I provide were already provided by Titan Studios.

**** KNOWN ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS ****

QUESTION: When is the release date?

ANSWER: Summer of 2009. With the end of summer nearing, this translates to, “Very soon.” I [Hikaru] can also tell you that with this posting and the subsequent Q&A interview this coming Monday that

there will be no release next week. It would be a waste of resources to have a Q&A followed by a release 3 days later. Unless, they wanted to completely surprise all of us.

QUESTION: Did you have to tone down the blood and gore in order to get the T rating?

ANSWER: There is an option to completely eliminate blood from appearing in game. This allows Fat Princess to have a T rating.

QUESTION: How many game modes are there?

ANSWER: Story mode will cover the backstory to Fat Princess. Gladiator/Colosseum mode will pit you against wave after wave of enemies in the arena to develop your combat skills. Online mode will be

the heart and soul of Fat Princess.

QUESTION: How many players at the same time in the largest map?

ANSWER: 32 players will be the maximum players

QUESTION: Will there be a lobby with invite options and the usual?

ANSWER: You will be able to invite friends, I am not sure what the “usual” entails sorry.

QUESTION: Besides the weapons each class wields and magic, are there any mechanisms, transports, barriers, or something to use for denfending/attacking in the game?

ANSWER: There is a catapult type launcher in your castle to send you as far as within the walls of the opposing team’s castle. This catapult can also be adjusted prior to launch to place you in a

location before the castle.
