Gran Turismo PSP Cover Revealed

101 2

Hello, GT fans and car lovers. As revealed yesterday on MotorTrend.com, the Corvette ZR1 was chosen by Gran Turismo producer and series creator Kazunori Yamauchi to grace the cover of the first Gran Turismo game to make its way to the PSP.

GT PSP Packfront

Dubbed the “Blue Devil” by the team at GM, the ZR1 is GM’s most powerful production car ever, sporting a 6.2L V8 pumping out 638hp and a 0-60 time of 3.3 seconds. Motor Trend was able to get the ZR1 to an incredible top speed of 200.5mph, did the quarter mile in 11.2 seconds finishing at 130.5mph, and raved about its performance.

So, everyone else loves the ZR1, but why was it picked for the cover of Gran Turismo’s PSP debut? Well, who better to explain that than the man behind GT himself, Kazunori Yamauchi.

“This spring I visited Detroit a few times, mainly to see the factories of the Big 3, and their museums and archives.

What I came to realize in those visits, was that the designs and mechanisms of American cars, in all eras over the years, have always been aimed towards a bright new future that all little kids dream about, and just
seeing them makes your heart race.

I found that when I’m surrounded by these generations of American cars, it just simply makes me happy.

There is a different experience in European car museums. In Europe I am more enveloped by a humbling, almost holy experience, in awe of the existence of the Automobile that was born out of practicality, and usually
appreciate its rich, diligent history of engineering in silent respect.

And so I’ve really come to realize more and more lately, that “American Cars have always been looking straight into the future, and have always been full of dreams – and quite wonderful after all.”

With all the automotive industry in the world at a crisis, I know that North American automakers are especially in a very difficult situation, and I understand the background and the reasons behind this.

And I can easily envision these things affecting our works as well. After all, as you well know, the game Gran Turismo is a video game that grew thanks to the insight and vision of the automotive industry, and in effect
nurtured by its kindness, in its very womb.

And that’s why I wanted us to make something, that could cheer up those in the industry.

Many GM cars representative from the Autorama days have really helped build the foundations of my adoration and sense of value for cars. And something that had always been deep within my heart over the years, is the long line
of Corvettes;

As long as I’ve known in every era, even from when I was a very small child, the Corvette has always been one of the coolest cars around.

And that is the reason why the newest Corvette ZR-1, was selected for the package cover of Gran Turismo for the PSP that is planned for release.

Also, there’s a fun little bit at the ending of this PSP version Gran Turismo, that is in concert with this package image of the Corvette.

I hope you’ll look forward to its release..”

And to close off the work-week with a bit of an international flare, here’s a Japanese commercial for Gran Turismo, featuring two of the world’s best three-lettered racing machines on one of the world’s most challenging tracks. Check out the video below and let your eyes feast on the future of handheld racing. Extra kudos points for anyone that can tell us what cars and track we’re talking about…and if you need some extra HD help, the video is also available for download (for free) on PSN.

So mark it on your calendars: Gran Turismo, on UMD and PSN this October 1. More than 800 cars, 35 tracks, a lifetime’s worth of racing.

  • Very nice can’t wait!

  • Awsome

  • I asked this in the EU blog but didn’t get a response.

    Those pics, are they in-game??
They look too good to be on PSP but no where near good enough to be CGI or running on the GT5 engine.

  • Looks pretty slick.

  • it’s mine this october 10th >:-)

  • With GT5 coming, I won’t buy this game. It’s worthless. We all know that GT5 will be superior. It’s a waste of everyone time and money.

    More GT5 news please!

  • Screenshots are pure beauty!!!

  • Looks like the Corvette ZR1 leading the Nissan 2009 GT-R on Nurburgring.

Nice trailer and thanks for the information. :)

  • ThreeLeggedFreak

Is it just me or does it sound like Stephanie Yoshimoto is hot?

  • “sporting a 6.2L V8 pumping out 638hp and a 0-60 time of 3.3 seconds. Motor Trend was able to get the ZR1 to an incredible top speed of 200.5mph, did the quarter mile in 11.2 seconds finishing at 130.5mph, and raved about its performance.”
-English please. Some of us do not speak car language :)

Second, So when are we going to see the GT5 cover?

Third, are those in-game PSP screen shots?

  • This. Is. Amazing.

  • awesome.

would really like to know if Gran Turismo PSP is gonna launch simultaneously with a downloadable version for the PSP Go users.

  • looks good

  • I’m gettig ready for a gran turismo overdose!!!

  • GT PSP looking really good. can’t wait for GT5!

  • @ #3 Those are probably replay screenshots. But I could be wrong.

@ #12 Did you read the last sentence?
“So mark it on your calendars: Gran Turismo, on UMD and PSN this October 1. More than 800 cars, 35 tracks, a lifetime’s worth of racing.”

I’m excited for this! I’ve been waiting for a good portable racer and this is finally it.
Now if only we could get more info on GT5…

  • Epic humiliation.

A PSP game looks better than the 360’s ‘big’ racing game Forza. LOL!

    Day 1 purchase.

  • This game looks incredible, I’m getting it along with the PSP GO, bundle them together and make it easy on me will yah!!! :P :D

  • When?

  • September 29th Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2

    October 1st GT PSP

    October 6th Deamon’s Souls

    October 13th Uncharted 2

Insane two week releas list for Sony.

  • I bought a white PSP3003 a few weeks ago just for this game. I Can’t Wait!!! this and GT5!! Is the Top Gear test track in this as well as GT5? I can’t wait to set lap times and have a world leaderboard :) Will you be getting someone (a developer) to change their name to “The Stig” to set really fast lap times that we have to aim to beat?!

  • The cars seem like a Corvette ZR1 (blue) and a Nissan GTR (red) . I’m waiting for this game! Can’t wait!

  • Is the track Nordshleife?

  • Maybe I am missing something huge… but why is this PSP GT even happening? Gran Turismo has long been about precision and ultra realism – a portable system with a small screen and a shoddy nub (wannabe stick) is NOT the environment for GT. Is GT-PSP more arcade and less simulation? Is that what I’m missing?

No, no hang on. I think I got it. GT5 Prologue didn’t steal enough cash from all of us to fund the development of GT5 so an upgraded GT2 port was progasmd onto the PSP.

Yes, I said progasmd. It’s an orgasm of programming code. Mostly leads to code bloat, memory leaks, and illegitimate children.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ll be buying this GT-PSP, and I’ll buy GT5 Prologue Part 2, and Part 3, but for the love of fuel, when can we have the main course?!

GT5 is what we want. NOT this.

  • I need to know whose screens are those? What game did those screens come from?

  • I find it really hard to believe that those are PSP screenshots, even with added supersampling and higher resolution. The polycount looks way too high.

Wish they would release actual screenshots :(.

I think GT5P and the upcoming GT5 looks better than pretty much any game out there, but why post screens that couldn’t possibly be from the PSP version here?

  • Polyphony should have just released GT1 and GT2 on PSN. But, this is following the PSPGO business model: “Make something with no new functionality but call it awesome, then charge lots of money for it.”

  • those screen shots are obviously for the PS3, although IDK why they would put ps3 screen shots in a psp game article.

  • What’s faster the Vette or th Skyline ? I was just wondering, nice cover though. Are we gonna get the game for real this time, or is it gonna be delayed another three years. Just wondering bout that also

  • So, why wasn’t this revealed here FIRST, at the official GT home web site?

    • Stephanie Yoshimoto

Hey MasterGT! Sorry, we had to get this news up quickly on the blog and will put this up on the GT web site shortly.

  • Oooh! Wallpaper please! I would edit the cover to fit for my PSP background but the Rating and Polyphony and Sony logos are in the way and i’m horrible at Photoshop :(

  • BTW, when I mentioned wallpaper, I meant from the PSP cover :)

  • EXCELLENT CHOICE!

The ZR1 is one PHENOMENAL car! Cant wait to get one in this and GT5!

  • i cant wait i hope to get a demo for this game

  • Awesome cover. I hope GT5 will sport a similar one when it comes out. :D

  • Can’t wait. Which tracks and cars are you talking about? The ones overlapping the background video or the ones in the background. I’ll just say the ZR1 and GTR @ Der Nurburgring.

  • October is goung for broke!
    I wish I could drive a ZR1 for real!
    Nice work.
    Preordering Now!

  • Damn! You know, I may pick this thing up just to show off my PSP! Tell Yamauchi-san that he does amazing work.

  • man this game looks too good to be on the PSP. These guys really have out done themselves. Now please give us GT5 soon.

  • @10

It means it is REALLY FREAKIN FAST!

  • Yea so GT PSP is good and all. But where the hell is GT5.

We’ve heard about GT5 wayyyyyyy before GT PSP and we already have a release dtate for the PSP.

I don’t like to rush developers but this is getting ridiculous. THIS BETTER BE GOTY since it’s taking so long.

  • Ahh, screens.. so.. delicious…

  • Are those screenshots from the full release of GT5? They look way too good for what the PSP can do. You should definitely clarify because some people might consider this tactic a bait and switch.

That being said, I’ll wait for GT5.

  • BAD ASS COVER !

  • That does not look like a PSP game. But that’s a very very good thing :D

  • I bought all gt’s so hell yeah i’m buying this this 1 hehe :)

  • Awesome cover! I like it. Definetly buying this game when it comes out. (:

  • ita beauty

  • Right on game looks great. You know what would make this game even better? AD-HOC PARTY SUPPORT!!! Any word if its coming to the states or eu?

  • @bloodycow Wow, just wow miss. If you couldn’t understand any of that maybe you should just take the bus. It doesn’t get any more basic than that.
