No Win Like a Sports Win

We’re now a couple of months into our 2009 EA SPORTS “season”, and I’ve been delighted with the response to our first titles out of the gate this year, especially with products like Fight Night Round 4, Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 10 and NCAA Football 10 really capturing the imagination of fans on the PLAYSTATION 3. With the launch of Madden NFL 10 around the corner, I think it’s very clear how we’re prioritizing quality and innovation in our pursuit of delivering personal access to the emotion of sports through everything we do this year. And as Maddenites around the country ready themselves for Aug. 14, we know “training” for Madden launch on the PS3 has become just as important to gamers as NFL Training Camps are for NFL players, as our new TV spots clearly show.

I also think it’s likely become very obvious to sports fans of all ages – gamer or not – over the past several weeks how we intend to deliver “The Win” in a way unlike any other sports brand in the world. Whether you’ve watched the NBA Finals, the Stanley Cup Finals, Wimbledon, or most any other major sporting event this summer, our EA SPORTS brand TV spots, created in collaboration with our partners at PlayStation, have been everywhere sports fans live and breathe this spring and summer. These spots are celebrating the fun and emotion of sports video games.

Delivering access to “The Win” is at the heart of everything we do. It’s why we consume sports differently than anything else we do, and we’re excited that the PlayStation team shares our passion for “The Win” that makes the sports video gaming experience so unique. These new spots convey the passion and intensity of sports gaming differently than we have done in many years, and it’s a testament to our shared vision to develop a unique and innovative campaign that would merge the worlds of real sports with that of the virtual world. I hope you all agree the end result really nails the experience we all know and love when playing sports videos – the euphoria of “The Win”, which for the great majority of us will be the closest we will come to the “real” thing on the field, pitch, rink or arena.

When we think of the sports gaming experiences we’re delivering with Sony this year, it’s very clear that our partnership and our commitment to the PlayStation platforms has never been stronger. Consider that…

  • In Madden, PS3-PSP integration will enable NFL fans to build their own formations & plays from scratch. Via connectivity with the PS3, fans can perfect their plays on-the-go and download them to their PS3 anytime.
  • In the EA SPORTS Complex on PlayStation Home, Club Fight Night is now open and drawing in Fight Night Round 4 fans, while four new Red Tournament poker tables have also been added to handle the overwhelming interest (nearly 2 million games played to date).
  • We’ve recently announced that this fall our revamped EA SPORTS Challenge Series will create a global online competition exclusively on the PLAYSTATION 3. In addition to the robust online competitions, our first live event is later this month in Dallas. Get in the action today and get all the details by visiting www.easportschallengeseries.com.

It’s clear that there’s never been a better time to be playing EA SPORTS games on the PS3 and PSP. Download your Madden demo today, and I hope PS Nation is ready to fight for every yard when Madden hits stores next week, as I know I will be with my beloved Patriots.

My sincere thanks to Rob Dyer, Pete Dille and Scott Steinberg of SCEA for their help and support in creating these ads, to our talented creative team at EA, and to the tremendous team at Heat/Freestyle.

  • I don’t even like football but those commercials are fantastic. I also haven’t touched Madden in about ten years but I played the demo and lo and behold I actually liked it. I was terrible at it but it was fun.

Holy crap Peter Moore posted this????

    Cool.

  • EA Sports seriously needs to contact Patty Allen to obtain the rights to the War Eagle Fight Song – Auburn University’s official fight song. That needs to be used in the NCAA games – not Tiger Rag.

According to Auburn University’s Web site, permission must be obtained from the late composer’s wife. As found on the Web site, EA Sports needs to do so. Here is the information. And for any other NCAA fans out there – write Mrs. Allen to politely request that this wonderful song be properly used to represent the school it was written for…

    Straight from Auburn University:
    “Fight Song: WAR EAGLE
To obtain permission to use the WAR EAGLE fight song contact:
    Patty Allen
    Charlie Deitcher Productions, Inc.
    P.O. Box 487
    Quogue, NY 11959
    Phone: 631-653-4223”

Please, please, please get the right song for so many peoples’ favorite team! And for fans who play against Auburn as a rival – there’s nothing like hearing that War Eagle song play to get them fired up! =)

  • Well I’m not into football but I am looking forward to NHL 10.

  • Nice videos very good humor. The game looks better than last years.

  • Woah Mr. Moore.

Please answer me this. I love the FIFA series(Been with it since France 98) I have extremely high hopes for FIFA 10. Especially with the new 360 dribbling you have in place. Please my one concern is the AI of my own team. In FIFA 09 they rarely move foward when on the attack unless you press L1+X thus moving foward. I hope you have changed this so that the AI automatically moves foward when you’re on the attack.

Also send my regards to David Rutter, and all those currently working on the FIFA franchise this year.

    Cheers

  • Commercials are rarely funny but I like that second one. It made me smile :)

  • SEGA

  • Great job on the tv spots, saw one of them the other day here in Canada.

  • what a surprise??

nice to have you with us MR MOORE

  • Hello Mr. Moore,

I want to congratulate you and all of EA for a resurgence in the EA brand, one of my personal all time favorites! I do have one burning question, when can we see SSX on the PS3? It may be EA Sports BIG, but its still sports and its my all time favorite sports title!

  • @60 I don’t even think the EA Sports BIG branding exist anymore.

Nothing’s coming out of EA Sports that’s extreme and wack.

  • Good to see that EA is taking the PS3 seriously now and not treating it like the Madden 08 disaster.

  • Wow, I can’t believe my comment was deleted. People say far worse things on this blog every single day that go uncensored.

Anyone that saw my original post can look it up on Google. What I stated was a FACT, not speculation.

With that out of the way, if anyone from EA is reading this — Battlefield 1943 is great, please continue to support it with some DLC (new maps) :)

  • Speaking of our beloved Patriots, I assume the legacy throwbacks will be in Madden 10? After all, its “in the game.”

  • Peter Moore?!? Wow had to post, just to say waaaaazzzzup, and thanks for showing the Playstation community love!

  • Please keep up the work and give us playstation fans some love.

  • Cant wait for the game!!!

  • Peter Moore! It’s great to have you on the PlayStation Blog.

Despite my bitter feelings towards EA a couple of years ago, things have steadily improved, especially since Activision decided to take over the evil mantle. Haha.

Seriously though, if you’re reading this, I’m confident that EA will continue to be a great publisher for PlayStation platforms for a long time to come. This morning I read a news article stating how PS3 generated more money for EA than the 360 in the fiscal quarter ending at June. I sincerely hope that this will encourage EA, especially EA Sports to make PS3 the lead platform for all its games. Please understand that it is ultimately in YOUR benefit to ensure the PS3 version of your games are not sub-par ports. If you manage to do that you’ll see not just how much more money, but also respect EA as a company will earn from the million of PlayStation fans.

Have a good day and I hope you see you in the PS Blog more often in the future. :)

  • Btw, people saying it will be Bill Gates or Aaron Greenberg next on the Blog, come on now! It’s more likely going to be John Schappert.

I hope he comes to announce the title EA working on for Sony’s new motion controller ;)

  • Mr. Moore posting on Playstation Blog? Whoa.

BTW, nice ads, gave me a good laugh.

  • Great post – crazy to see Mr. Moore here.

Here’s on thing, if this verbiage is going to be used alot, for PS3/PSP interactivity, I’d say PSP content can be UPLOADED to PS3. I know you are technically downloading it. But the PS3 acts like the server in this case, you’re perfecting your playbooks on the go, then uploading them back to the PS3 for use in PS3 games.

  • Saw the EA sales figures, can we hope a mass effect or l4d2?

  • Awesome adds, I really hope the collaboration between EA and SONY continues to grow :D.

Nice to see you in the blog Mr. Moore :D

  • God, now I feel like I have to buy Madden with all this ps3 love an even support for Home…Hold up why does 360 get an exclusive Sugar Ray for Fightnight? I’ll DL the Madden Demo tonite we’ll see if its worth picking up. Torgo LOL! VGEVO.com 4 Life!
