Interview with Heavy Rain Executive Producer

+ Posted by Chris Morell // Senior Social Media Specialist

Over on the PlayStation.Blog.Europe, they’ve got a great Heavy Rain interview with Guillaume de Fondaumiere, Executive Producer and CEO at Quantic Dream. Guillaume talks in-depth about how the story relates to the four playable characters, and provides much more insight into the psychological thriller. Enjoy!

I haven’t played it for myself, so I can’t fairly judge it, but it looks to be far more than Dragon’s Lair in new clothing.

If you don’t want it, don’t buy it.

It looks great to me.

Guillaume de Fondaumiere’s smirks throughout the interview tell me he is passionate about the game, and excited by the experiences in it. I also liked hearing that the game is influenced by two of my favorite movies; Silence of the Lambs and Se7en.

Can’t wait to get my hands on this, and play it multiple times.

I’m kinda glad it’s being delayed; it just means the finished product will (hopefully) be amazing. I can’t wait this is a day 1 purchase for me.

This game has been on my radar since I first read about it. It’s looking great and can’t to play it.
I actually do not want a demo. I want to experience the game fresh from the start when the full game will be released.

Thanks for the interview video

Wow, approximately 60 scenes and many endings!
This game will take a whole up of time just if we want to know those other endings.

I hope to experience the Demo, because I heard tons of GOOD Heavy Rain responses at E3 2009, and many more titles that are releasing very soon. I just hope they release this beauty in a good time.

Heavy Rain and Brutal Legend are the two games I’ve been most anticipating. I don’t buy many retail games, and it takes a lot of interest for me to buy them used, nevermind new.

My horrible experience with Ghostbusters, which was the first game I bought new at retail 1 year after I bought my PS3, has put me off of new retail games almost entirely. The completely awful looking graphics and the lowest-common-denominator Dolby Digital sound made it difficult to play for even the few hours that I did. There’s still not even word of an in-progress patch. At least if I buy a retail game a year or two later, there’s more of a chance that problems will have been patched up (like with Lair).

Heavy Rain seems right up my alley, but right now I have no trust that retail games provide enough of a risk-free value proposition over downloadable games. More detailed technical information on graphics (native resolutions) and audio specs (asset codecs, lossless, 24-bit, etc) might help, along with a demo.

Until the Ghostbusters wrong is righted, proving that Sony has a stake in helping developers, I will probably continue to avoid retail games.

Anyone who wants to bash this game should look at God of War’s action sequences in which you had to press certain buttons fast enough, while still enjoying the video.

Great interview. I’m very excited about Heavy Rain. I’ve been following this title since it was first leaked/announced. From what I understand Heavy Rain is going to push the envelop with mocap graphics technology, more than ever before in a video game. Not only will Heavy Rain look and sound fantastic, it will attempt to immerse gamers in a deep and emotional ‘interactive’ story. The keyword being interactive.

With 30,000 words of non-linear dialogue, 70 actors and stuntmen, a development team of over 220 people, and 170 days of motion capture, how can Heavy Rain be anything but extraordinary?

I can’t wait for the demo… Yes everyone there will be a demo for this game, the guy who was at e3 said there will be one some time after all 4 characters are revealed!!! I am definitely loving what I’ve seen so far. I wonder who the other 2 characters are? The waiting is killing me I need this game now!!! or you know maybe just the demo for now lol

Thank you for this exceptional interview. I’ve been waiting for this game since Indigo Prophecy (heck, even since Omikron), and it is the MAIN REASON I bought a PS3. Although I know this game won’t be for everyeon, I hope Quantic Dream does well enough to keep them developing fantastic games.

I have been following the development of this game closely from the time i came to know of it.
What i like and don’t about the game so far:
I love it:
1) The story – that leads to you solving the case of The Origami Killer. Just like The silence of the lambs or Seven for that matter. And this time its not Jodie or Brad it would be each one of us scripting our own stories.
2) Its a PS3 exclusive
3) Cinematic Presentation
4) Replayability value
Could have been better:
1) The graphics – Nothing spectacular so far from the trailers and other presentations. But i understand its the story that is the key.
2) Could have stuck with the normal controller buttons rather than following R2 for movement etc. But need to experience it first-hand so waiting for the demo.
3) They could have released it this quarter.

+ Aressandy on August 8th, 2009 at 3:11 am said:

What will be the average duration of the game? Could you please share it with us? I know that depends totally on how you play the game but if all four characters are kept alive then how long will it take to finish the game?

+ SpearrO on August 8th, 2009 at 4:06 am said:

This is shaping up to be a great game, and should at the very least be an interesting experiment. I like the idea of a fixed story within which you play characters which have no fixed role. Sounds really interesting!

+ Dice_for_Death_ on August 8th, 2009 at 2:43 pm said:

With my expectations of the gameplay already affirmed, I have an idea as to what to expect, once I get past that START NEW MOVIE screen. This isn’t meant as an insult; if I recall correctly, Indigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit had those exact words (more or less) at its very beginning.

This will be one of those games that I’ll go back to, time and time again. I’m certain of that much.

+ CloudStorm87 on August 8th, 2009 at 7:53 pm said:

Heavy Rain is one of my most anticipated PS3 titles. I really enjoyed Farenheit and what I’ve seen or heard about Heavy Rain so far has intrigued me very much. I’m sucker for muder mysteries/thrillers and I hope the story in Heavy Rain really is the strongest aspect of the game. Of course I’m definitely going to continue playing the game even if my characters keep dying because even in failure you get an ending, albeit a sad one but at least now dying in a video game serves some purpose. Now I just hope the game comes out this year. I can’t wait to play it!
