Heavy Rain Interview – Submit Your Questions!

Chris Morell's Avatar + Posted by Chris Morell on Aug 10, 2009 // Senior Social Media Specialist

gamescom Cologne starts next week, and of course, we’re getting some quality time with Heavy Rain developer Quantic Dream at the show. So you know what that means — we need your questions!

You’ve no doubt recently seen or read about the game, whether from our E3 virtual booth tour or the PlayStation.Blog.Europe‘s Friday interview with Guillaume de Fondaumiere, Executive Producer and CEO at Quantic Dream.

So once again, we’re opening the door to you! What do you want to know about Heavy Rain? Do your research, then drop your questions in the comments section below.

1) How flexible is the storyline’s path in the choices you make? If you make one decision does it take you in a different path than if you had made the other. Fahrenheit suffered from this as it seemed to give you choices but it ended up being superficial .e.g deciding to take a taxi instead of the subway or, Lucas deciding to wash the blood in the bathroom – These decision didn’t really change the outcome of the way the other characters reacted to you.

2) Are the fight scenes actual gameplay or just a series of quick time events? How much control do we have of the characters?

3) How diverse is the cast of characters? e.g Is Madison the only female character?

How will the game be marketed? Do the developers have high expectations for the game, or are they afraid that without a strong marketing campaign the game may be lost in the crowd of other games coming out?

Here are my questions, I would really appreciate if you kindly answer them-

1. Since the game has a subtitle “The Origami Killer”, is Heavy Rain planned to be a franchise or is it just a one off title?

2. What is the significance (if any) behind the title “Heavy Rain”?

3. Will Heavy Rain feature CG cutscenes for storytelling or will it be done using what goes on during the gameplay?

4. What happens if you finish all the available scenes with one character? Does the story end there or do you continue playing with the remaining characters until they have all either finished their scenes or died?

5. Do the decisions/actions of one character affect the story for the other characters?

6. What is significance of having four diferent characters other than being able to play through their own stories? Do the characters have anything in common in the grand scheme of things?

7. Do any of the characters meet each other at point during the game?

8. Will the player be able to manually use/control any weapons/vehicles during gameplay or will everything be done using quick-time events?

9. Where (i.e. location) is the game’s story specifically set in?

10. When is the game coming out and can we expect to see a demo on the PlayStation Store?

Thank you very much.

I know some devs do a lot of testing to get the controls to help players experience the game the way they want them to… But will you be supporting re-mappable controls? Why not, or how in depth will it be if so?

How much of an impact do collectible or usable items found during gameplay affect the outcome of the scenes?

In all games, all of them can be ruined by bad music. The soundtrack can set one game apart from the rest, for the better or for the worst.

1. Ask if there is a wide range of unique music throughout the game, dramatic, emotional, suspenseful, etc.

2. Ask if there are special songs created just for the game. (Songs with Lyrics)

Can you tell that I like music?

Will there be a kind of DLC or Home support?

Do you think online or local co-op could have been applied to the game, or ever considered?

What about a scenario editor, where you plot out your own chain of events. Maybe for a sequel I guess. Looking forward to the game.

1. Do you think Heavy Rain could make a player cry?
2. Do you think Heavy Rain will be considered a work of art by the industry & consumers alike?
3. Do you think Heavy Rain could win an “Academy Award”?
4. Will there be a sequel?
5. What future games will use Heavy Rain’s mo-cap technology?

Thank You, I appreciate the chance to ask the Devs questions.
*Can I get a M.A.G ├četa invite?* :)

6. Has anyone @ Quantic Dream, thought an “Online” Heavy Rain where multiple players control characters trying to solve mysteries presented by the Devs, all while trying to stay alive while investigating? Whoever solves the mystery first wins…

My friends tell me this game looks like a interactive movie but I don’t care it looks really good. Most people already asked what I wanted so I’ll just post them again.
1. Is there DLC planned?
2. Well you have a different experience after each play? Honestly, how good is the replayability?
3. How will the trophies work?
4. More like a request you should release more videos about it.
