Hi Everyone –

Let’s kick off this week’s Video Store post with some good news for all of our European readers … PlayStation Video Store will be launching in Europe this coming November! Congratulations!!

For the US Video Store it was a busy week of big box-office hits and TV Shows, so here’s the full list of new arrivals and top downloads. Also, new this week to PlayStation Store: free trailers, XMB theme, and wallpaper for GAMER, in theaters September 4, 2009. Enjoy!

    i have some questions please:

    wich countries will the video store support?

    will they be subtitles to the movies (more specific will they be greek subtitles on the way?)

    if i have a US account and live in europe will it mean that now i will be able to access video store from november?

    I will complaining and low rating the video content posts until you give us a Video Store here in CANADA. I mean who wants to trudge through the snow to go rent a movie or buy a tv series? Not me because on average here we get 6-9 feet accumilation in a month(January) and I walk with a cane which makes it all that harder. I called the CRTC and inquired if indeed Sony was able to rent, sell movies tv shows on a private network. They said there was nothing Stopping Sony from opening said service. Now WHAT IS THE “REAL” REASON? Huh got an answer that will satisfy me. ( I was on hold with the crtc for 3 hours so the reply to this should be good.)

    oh and for those that dont know, the CRTC stands for Canadian Radio and Telecommunications Commission. They regulate all the media in Canada….

    You are NOT getting access to the US Video Store…you will have your OWN video store.

    For instance the UK Store will have 24 hrs ConnieStreet Fests and Benny Hill remakes and the German Store will be nothing but Art House black and white films. (jk)

    Shouldn’t the European readers already be reading the EU blog? And please stop complaining, Canada. Yes, we get that you want a video store and all of the other things that the U.S. gets, but enough is enough. I think that Sony gets that by now, and they’re probably working on a Canadian video store. No, I don’t know what’s taking so long, but if the EU is getting a store, yours will probably follow shortly.

    Don’t expect subtitles for anything, just dubs. Here in the US we can’t even get english subs or 5.1+ surround sound in what we download. For a fan of anime this is a must to be able to choose and in the case of hard to hear movies another must especially if sony plans to go long term with this sucker.

    5.1 problem tends to urk me as well as it maybe in surround sound, but it is most likely limited to a format that only 5% of us can use. My sound system doesn’t decode AAC which is probably what the audio is and thus gets down sampled.

    Basically the PS Video Store is a great rental service, but a horrible long term initiative. Much better to just buy bluray movies and only visit the store when you don’t have free time to run to blockbuster for a movie.

    Off topic… but I hope Jeff can pass on the suggestion.

    It will be awesome if we can “Follow” other people on the playstation site, a way to actually have some friends on your profile so you can track their Trophies progress, having your friends new trophies shown in an activity stream.

    That will be great!

      I can tell you that the latest trophy update on PlayStation.com is far from the end of the road.

      The team has very ambitious plans for PlayStation.com and I think you\’ll be pleased with the ways that they\’ll continue to enhance the user interface and functionality.

    And most of the ‘whiners’ are only asking to ACKNOWLEDGE whether one is coming to Canada or not. I fail to see ANY strategic reason for not acknowledging whether it is in the works.

    After 6 months of politely asking Grace to comment I moved on and am using Xbox360 (I didn’t own one until 6 months of silence from Grace on the topic) and iTunes…money that SONY could have been earning if they are working on a system and just acknowledged such.

    I’m a Canuck and I’d love to see the video store up here too. I wonder if Sony just doesn’t see a big enough market in Canada. It might also be our somewhat lax copyright enforcement and laws and the large studios aren’t letting Sony bring the video store to Canada.

    europe includes france, in france they speak french, so the movies available are already dubbed in french, which would make them ready for canada as well

    sony seems to have a problem with canada and canadians, no comic for psp here, no video store here…
    i really dont know what to think

    Canadians are well within their right to complain about the lack of a Video Store up here. The decision to provide zero comment about the status of the video store in Canada is simply lousy public relations. Ignoring your customers in the hopes they will stop asking questions is never a good idea.

    Sony has officially lost all credibility as a serious digital content provider. Too little, too late. Next generation, I will likely assign my money/allegiances to Microsoft, regrettably.

    Need subtitles options in the movies and tv shows. Also need better, fairer DRM. And a Documentary and Foreign option when you browse under genre.
