  • Good for Europe, and South American keep waiting for our Video Store.

  • @48…

    Molson’s really isn’t Canadian anymore…go Moosehead.

    :)

  • Can we please lower the price…I will continue to trudge out to my local RedBox. I cannot see how having servers is more expensive than 10 vending machines in each city. Please comment Jeff, even if your comment is send suggestions to this location I would gladly follow up with someone else.

    Thanks,
    Steve

  • @26

Ars said the same thing a year ago…

  • Japanese Audio with English Subtitles please.

  • HBO Please!!!!!!!!!!

  • Quoted from @26 link:

A representative from Sony told us, “The Canadian PSN is the same as the U.S. with only one difference – the video store. This is something we are working very hard to correct. All other aspects of the store are the same, including prices.”

WORKING VERY HARD TO CORRECT. There is more money in Europe than in Canada, so they probably needed to get it available there first.

Also, people are saying things like we need to have a certain amount of Canadian content. This is only true in broadcasting, as we can PURCHASE whatever we want.

Another excuse is needing multiple languages for the French Canadians. Well what about Europe? Isn’t there way more required languages in Europe than Canada? France, Germany, and Spain have different languages. Now I wouldn’t be surprised if they had the opportunity to pick between their native language and English. Can’t French Canadians just pick between their native language and English?

I’m not trying to complain, because I know they’re working on it. I’m just trying to unfold what is slowing down the process.

  • @57 Marketplace and iTunes say hi.

  • @58 Not sure what you mean by that other than those services are in Canada. I don’t use the Marketplace or iTunes because of their companies poor business practices. Also that ars link you posted isn’t really relevant because they now have the Europe store confirmed. This means they are making progress compared to a year ago.

Just because there are other distribution services in Canada doesn’t mean Sony should just step back and let others take the profit.

  • Who is Canada?
Anyways, great update once again Grace!
    5* Stars :D

  • Sony, at the very least you can tell us Canadians what’s going on about the video store. And I don’t mean through third-party news sites: this should be something addressed on THIS BLOG. Leaving consumers in the dark is a terrible way of doing business.

  • looks good, but i have a problem with it, wverytime i try to access it, its says ” you cannot access this content on your account” why is it?

  • Sony is hopeless. CANADA????????????????????????????????

  • U-S-A! U-S-A! I’m loving those Green Lantern sneak peeks.

Don’t you Canadians have better health care anyway? Talk about spoiled.

  • O Canada!
    Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide, O Canada,
We stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

I think that all disgruntled Canadians (Myself included) should keep posting our national anthem until we get our video content on Playstation Store. Hopefully then Sony will realize how many people are irate about this issue.

It’s worth a shot, come on Canada, let’s make some noise!

    zaltar

P.S. I don’t want Americans to be offended in any way by this (though I don’t see why, but just in case…), I’m just stating an opinion that is held by most Canadians.

  • Oh, say! Can you see by the dawn’s early light
    What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming;
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there:
Oh, say! does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?!

  • I don’t need the video store in Canada cuz I have uTorrent and i can get whatever I want for free . Admit you don’t like that SONY ;)

  • Would really love to get more theatrical trailers for the store. As it stands there isn’t really anything there.

  • hey people at the playstation blog could you tell us when and if video store is coming out in canada

  • Jeff, can you ask Kaz and/or Jack if and when the video store is coming to Canada? Clearly you have a market here, utilize it.

I’m sick of wondering, waiting and watching other territories getting it. Even a “yeah, we’re working on it” or a “nah, just forget about it already” would suffice. I mean, are you not tired of seeing the same questions over and over? As a community I feel a part of, I just wish we we’re treated the as equals.

/slightly sarcastic but still very serious post.

  • YES!!!!!! grandmas boy i love that movie

  • lets hope the Canadian Video service doesnt take another year to be up and running…

  • @ 13 fdroopy:

Canadians have EVERY right to complain about a service that IS possible. We SHOULD have it by now…there’s no real red tape preventing this video service from entering Canada so our concerns ARE legible.

Arrogant Americans with your BS comments….Keep you tongue behind your teeth!!!

I am SOOOOOO sick of reading comments from the U.S. stating proof that they believe themselves to be the superior nation on the globe…when in fact according to most statistics they are the absolute worst!!!

We do have every right you do, and you need to start realizing that everyone IS as important as you on this planet. Life is life and you have no superiority in that.

This blog is designed to give us ALL a voice in the gaming community after learning the most recent Playstation news.
You are not the only ones allowed to voice opinions so if you cannot say something positive, don’t say anything at all…I would usually do the same if you weren’t such an ass.

From this point on, don’t flap the lips on your funny face unless you are saying something productive…clown!

  • @8
    child please

  • WOOT!!!! BLUES BROTHERS!!!!!!

  • Ok. Before making uneducated comments about the CRTC in Canada, hear this. THEY HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH IT!!! They do not regulate any broadcasting over the internet. The REAL reason why the service isn’t in Canada yet, is because of broadcasting rights. Should you wish to research this, you’ll have to dig deep…

  • Canada is a fake place made up by the people that live in South Alaska.

  • @77-Ya,Canada sucks! Good thing i don’t live there.=)

  • @51 it is good.
so we don’t have to deal with those crappy services, americans always like so much.

i truly don’t get subscription services, who pays for digital radio? are u insane?
or a digital video recorder like tivo? those are all freely available services here…

@66: I must admit, you have a beautiful national anthem, but the point of posting mine is to show how much Canadians want this ;).

    zaltar

  • Yay! Finally! A video store coming to Europe! Oh wait, I’m Canadian. :(

  • @66 LOL

OT: Awesome guys!! great to see the guys across teh pond are getting the store. hope you can get it for the guys up north soon too.

  • At this point, it no longer matters if the video services arrives in Canada for me – I can access any videos I want to watch using the other system. I simply got tired of waiting for the service to get released on the PS3.

I hope the service does get released; afterall, Canadians deserve it….oh and we have substantially more disposable income right now then Americans do :)

  • @stri: wow. you’re calling us arrogant when some of us aren’t adding to the flames of the issue and you are trying to fan them to be as large as possible. People like you are just asking to get arrogant comments thrown at them. And no, I’m not just saying that because you’re Canadian. I treat everyone who posts arrogant comments like that…when I’m not feeling too lazy to post

  • I know you guys here probably don’t have much say in what happens with the Playstation Movie Store, but if we had it here in Canada, my life would be complete (not ACTUALLY, but you know what I mean).

So, here’s to hoping we get the Playstation Store here in Canada soon.

  • Speaking of Marketplace and iTunes. They took the same route. US first then Europe and then Canada. There must be a reason for the pattern. Canada is more strict with Movie and TV rights. We didn”t even get the collectors edition of Stranglehold with the BluRay movie of Hard Boiled because of it. I had to order online. Hell we still don’t get TV shows on Marketplace.

  • Whenever something good comes out, canadians get left out. =[

  • This video service debacle is absolutely pathetic sony. If you can’t release a product or service to everyone at the same time don’t release or announce it!! I just found out that the comic service was ALSO not being released in Canada at the same time as everywhere else and I’m absolutely disgusted! I’ve been pumped as hell to upgrade to a PSPgo; and this service would have been a fantastic addition; but I’m seriously reconsidering this purchase and any further purchase of Sony products. Every computer, tv, console, music player, phone, etc etc that I’ve purchased in the past has been a sony product and that’s going to stop right now until I get an answer as to why these services are not here! I also don’t consider “we’re working on it” an answer, give us some flippin’ hope here!!

  • cont.

I’m tired of myself and anyone else having to complain for something we should have just as much right to as any other investor. We just like the US, EU and Japan have invested upwards of $600+ dollars into a system that we are hoaxed into its capabilities (ie. your many commercials that show the psp and ps3 video and tv downloading capabilities). If you make an announcement, market or provide a service, at least consider answering the questions of the remaining consumers who have been loyal enough to invest in your product.

I know my $250 PSPgo money may not seem to be much to Sony, but welcome to the world of the web and freedom of speech; keep hiding and falsely advertising your products and the people will make sure consumers know the real truth.

  • @77 & 78

That was very mature of you…Everyone loves well thought criticism…end of sarcasm.

You do know that the U.S.A is not the center of the universe….

  • Oh my fellow Canadians, when are you going to realize that Sony doesn’t care for Canada, which is fine, it’s their right. You all need to stop complaining on this stupid blog, stop writing internet petitions, stop pretending that speaking up is going to solve the issue. It isn’t. If an internet petition reaches over 100,000 people and a company like Blizzard refuses to acknowledge it, then do you think a company like Sony gives a rats arse about some posters on its blog ?

Once, I was a die hard Sony fan, now, not so much. I won’t spend a single penny on Sony merchandise…nothing on anything. Cameras, TV’s, memory sticks, PS3 stuff, PSP stuff, NOTHING ! I know it sucks, there are some decent games on the PS3, and Sony does have some decent hardware, but remember, gaming isn’t a drug, you are not addicted and there are other fish in the sea. If worse comes to worse, buy used, Sony sure as hell doesn’t like that.

  • It was a tough decision to start supporting “the other guys” because of a whole slew of reasons, but the other companies show support to Canada. The Box has a “Made In Canada” series of videos to promote Canadian content (lord knows a crap load of awesome games are developed in Canada). The Weeeeee has Club Nintendo available to Canadians which means “free” stuff. There are lots of reasons to support “the other guys” but day by day there is less and less of a reason to support Sony.

I encourage all Canadians to do the same. Why are you still supporting a company that doesn’t give two hoots about us ? We’re left out of promotions, we’re left out of the content, we are treated as second rate consumers and I have had it. After sinking tens of thousands into Sony, I’m simply moving on. Remember WE are the consumers, THEY need OUR money, don’t give it to them !

Proud to be a Canuck !

  • that’s right sony ignore canada again your lucky you guys have blu-ray or i would or bought a xbox360

  • So I have a US account with a US debit card and a US billing address, but I am currently living overseas and will be here for a couple of years. When trying to rent or buy movies I get an error message saying that “this content cannot be accessed on your account”.

I assume PSN is checking my IP address to see where the connection comes from. If that is the case, what are my options? Will I need to get a SSH tunnel or VPN service just to get an US IP address to rent or buy movies?

  • @95

I have the same exact problem living here in Japan. I have had my PS3 since shortly after launch, the same PSN account, and now that I have moved to Japan I can’t access the video store. The icon at the top in the PS store is gone, and to get to the video store I have to click on one of the advertisements in the game store or via the icon in the Video section of the XMB. Anyway, it sucks to move all the way to the home of the PS3 to learn that I cannot access the content my account type allows me to access. Like you, I believe it has to do with my IP address being registered to a Japanese ISP. I can access every bit of the Japanese store via a Japanese PSN account, but I don’t understand Japanese so that does no good at all. At any rate, I feel your pain.
