God of War Storyline
Set in the dark world of ancient Greek mythology, players take on the role of Kratos, a Spartan warrior. Plagued by the nightmares of his past, the ash covered warrior would do anything to be free of his debt to the Gods and the memories that haunt him. For ten years he has labored for Olympus, now on the verge of losing all hope, the Gods have given him one last task. Destroy Ares, the God of War. Armed with the deadly chained Blades of Chaos, Kratos will have to overcome armies of mythological monsters, legions of undead soldiers, and amazingly dangerous and brutal landscapes.

God of War II Storyline
God of War saw Kratos, a mortal warrior, set upon an epic quest to dethrone a God. But his journey did not end there. In God of War II, Kratos sits atop his Olympus throne, as the new God of War – far more ruthless than Ares ever was. To end his continued torment, Kratos must journey to the far reaches of the earth and defeat untold horrors and alter that which no mortal, or god has ever changed… his fate. God of War II sets an epic stage for a devastating mythological war to end all wars.

  • Oh man! This is *SUPER GOOD NEWS*!

  • so this all but confirms ps2 BC is coming back?????

(yeah….. I know… not a chance in hell while the ps2 is still selling)

  • Day one.. Thank you Sony :)

  • FANTASTIC!

It’s nice to see nothing but positive comments on a blog post for once, and I mirror everyone’s excitement for this release.

However I do have a question. Why the lack of a GoWIII demo? As if the above details in the press release weren’t enough, a demo would certainly set sales ablaze. Just a thought.

Without sounding redundant, I also mirror the sentiments for an ICO/SoTC remaster disc in time for the release of Team Ico’s next project, The Last Guardian. That would be amazing.

  • So, instead of giving backward compatibility to the console, will you sell us the titles AGAIN with forward compatibility?
    Is that the trend?

  • @106 foodude

  • Holy [DELETED] this is awesome! I have both games and completed them, but i’m totally getting this…I mean how could I not, it has teh trophies!
But is it coming to the EU region? If not I’ll be importing!

  • I’m getting this for sure. Going to have to remember where all the secrets are

  • I hope this becomes a trend.

    ICO/SOTC
    RATCHET
    JAK&DAXTER
    SLY COOPER
    KILLZONE

    I’d buy them all! :D

  • Thats great! But i already own both games for the PS2 so i’ll pass on this. Looking forward to GoW3

  • Well that’s just great.

  • No way. Really? I will get this for sure.

Now if we can get all the jak and daxter, sly cooper and R&C like this, it will be awesome.

  • Wow they listen.could have fooled me

  • respect, sony!!!!!

  • wow im jumpin on that deal wish it was a trilogy

  • If the consumers are being heard, I definitely agree and hope that Ico and Shadow of the Colossus get the same treatment!

These are definite buys for a lot of consumers. I hope to see this for many other titles in the future as well, just as long as they’re both remastered AND include trophy support.

Also, why 720p and not 1080p? It’s a minor complaint I know but aside from trophy support being involved in my decision to rebuy, my PS2 games look fantastic on the PS3 already.

  • Good job sony. That’s an amazing deal, that i can’t play because i’m too young. But others will be more then pleased to hear this.

  • Please please please please say this is coming to the UK too!
I have the games and backwards compatability but this is now my most anticipated release this year after Uncharted 2! Brilliant news

  • “…in 720p HD form. Both titles have been remastered with anti-aliased graphics, running at 60 frames per second…”

    So you upscaled them. Why?
Why not just run at a higher base resolution?

Or do you mean that it’s running at 720p with MSAA?

  • also doing this with ICO and SotC would be the best thing ever.

  • So how much of a graphical upgrade are we talking here. I mean 720p and anti-aliasing is awesome and all, but are we talking higher resolution models and textures? What about the bonus content like the challenges are those included? Are we also getting the bonus disc from god of war 2 on a bluray?

  • @106 that place is the official Playstation forum

  • Awesome! I really hope this starts a trend of awesome remastered compilations.

(Ico and Shadow of the Colossus at 60fps, 720p for $39.99 before The Last Guardian. Please?)

  • sweet, i missed out on the first 2 games. I’m definately gonna pick this up.

  • Forget day 1, this is second 1!

Now, please Do a team Ico Compilation with this level of support :D

  • @114
It sounds like they are just reworking the original games to run off the PS3 hardware. This is by no means a confirmation of an Emulator for PS2.

  • AWESOME NEWS!!! :O

When can we expect to see screenshots and video? :O

  • maybe this this will catch on and more PS2 franchises will follow suit. Then the complainers can stop complaing about BC.

  • YYEEEESSSS!!!! And with trophies too…..HEELLLL YEAAHAHHHHAHHH!!!!!!!!!

  • WOW too awesome!!! this will keep me more than happy until GOW3 comes out. =)

  • So will this contain all the features from the PS2 games, such as the making of videos and challenges?

  • Did you just say trophy support for God of War I and II?

    *head asplodes*

  • OMG NO WAY DIS TRUE
    it is true@!!!!
gow1 gow2 remastered with trophies on 1 bluray disc??… that spells out : “day 1 purchase”
good job sony, santa monica, bluepoint, and everyone else!!!

I hope you guys make a similar release ICO and Shadow of the Colossus compilation sometime before (or even after !!) release of The Last Guardian.

Heck you can start a whole new collection of ps2 classics remastered for ps3with trophies and sold for $20 each.

  • awesome can’t wait to buy this

  • OH LORD HAVE MERCY!!!!

    This is amazing news!

  • why are people still crying about B.C. this is upgraded and u rather have a B.C. crappy version… morons! look i have a B.C. ps3 and guess how many times i play ps2 since after the first year none! but i think it would be a great idea for sony and even the devs to do more of this like the GOD of WAR Bluray collection! especially for the new playstation adopters to get to experience some of these great titles! How about some metal gears 2 and 3 and devil may cry 1,2, and 3, or even maxpayne 1 and 2! ok ill stop im asking for too much now lol!

  • …speechless

I already own GoW 1 and 2 but HD, 60fps and trophies for $39 is too good a deal to pass!
