Just in time for the official launch of the 120 GB PlayStation 3, PS3 Firmware (v3.00) will be available shortly. As detailed during gamescom 09, 3.00 will introduce a number of great features, including “What’s New,” a redesigned status indicator and Friends List, and support for new avatars and dynamic themes.

When the update started I read the update info and see the following; Visit the PS Store from both the Games and Videos sections of the XMB. I’ve just got to say, this is a slight tweeking. That’s all a firmware is. It’s not a free state of the art game or something that’ll improve your love life. I think a lot of you have to got get a life and stop moaning about little changes to a games console after a software update.
Also, Sony – I can understand where a lot of the guys & gals are coming from (even if they are blowing it out of all proportion). Feel free to add or update chages on their PS3s, but remember to include the option to disable changes somewhere in the settings.
P.S. I had a 52″ Bravia and my icons still look small :D

It’s especially annoying with an SDTV. The clock box is huge (the ticker is USELESS, by the way) and runs into elements on the XMB and the friends list is horridly ugly.
The entire XMB is ugly now, and cluttered. And those annoying PS Store ads! The Store was easy to get to and navigate before! This just clutters things.
Now the PS Store shows up not once, not twice, not three times, but FOUR times (original location, Game, Video, What’s New).
I know companies want money, but this feels more like Sony acting like those beggars in Assassin’s Creed, popping up at every turn wanting money.
Sony says it improves navigation, but it only introduces more clicks to the mix.
Saying this update is an improvement would be a complete and utter lie.
