PlayStation on Facebook: Tell Us What You Want to See

Jeff Rubenstein's Avatar Posted by on Sep 01, 2009 // Sr. Social Media Manager

If you’re new to the Blog, or just otherwise haven’t been paying close attention, we’re on Facebook. We’ve been syndicating blog posts, hosting contests and announcing details around upcoming meetups and events. You may already know all this. Stay with me here.

As of late, Facebook’s been cracking down on unofficial fan pages throughout the site, including those pertaining to PlayStation. Since we *are* PlayStation, we’ve decided to open our doors to all the PlayStation fans on Facebook, and have gathered everyone in one place. You can now find us at www.facebook.com/PlayStation. If you are an existing fan of the fan page formerly known as “PlayStation.Blog,” you’ve already made the move. That was easy, yeah? If you’re not, no time to join us like the present. Go on, I’ll wait.

With all these new fans (300K and counting), this is a good time for us to make updates to the fan page… but we want to get your input first. After all, it’s you who are our fans. So what should we do with our Facebook page? Please take this 1-question survey to let us know your thoughts on the subject.

We look forward to reading your replies!

While we’re suggesting things, Jeff Gerstman at GiantBomb wants to implement PSN achievements/trophies on GiantBomb. Why not give users the API to let them make their own “Gamercard” sites like “MyGamercard” and let them use the API to retrieve trophy/achievement information like MS does?

It’s such a missed opportunity to get a web-based store/send messages to online PSN people through playstation.com, API sharing with SCE. :|

i personally wouldn’t mind seeing a social section on the xmb (FB, myspace twitter ect…) i’d also like to see a psn mobile app for smartphone users (blackberry, iphone, palm ect…) synced to your friends list with instant messaging options, trophies ect… “BRILLIANT”. lastly i’d love to create categories for my psn friends ie. home/opf2/madden 10 ect… making it easier to navigate the friends list. thanks for reading

peace & blessings

i wanna see. being able to play music on all games during the game. (like killzone 2 did which is the most badass game ever!) a quicker way to see what friends are doing. maybe some new controller desings ( even though the ones now are good) making it so ppl with bad internet cant be hosting games ( call of duty pisses me off when i get a bad host) maybe a war game based in the near future world war 3 russia/china invade the western u.s and are pushing the millitary who is alligned with germany back to the east. but you can push back and can choose difffernt routes to the west coast (seattle/los angeles/ portland/ Sf as examples) online with 500 person matches ( think like mag but a bit bigger still. killzone 3!

I want to see Cross-game party chat. psI love the new update, looks nicer and runs better then before. The friend list change was a good idea to stop the font from matching your background, :))))))))))

Telistthecat, if there’s only one person with a problem its you, judging people by websites they’re using, is really lame, don’t you think?

Someone mentioned inegrating the blog on the XMB… now THAT’S a great idea! To put it even a better idea!

I want to be able to get rid of the bloody obnoxious ticker bar.

Make it happen Sony!

+ linig on September 3rd, 2009 at 3:36 pm said:

Sony you need to stop worrying about BS like Facebook and concentrate on fixing the major screw ups you made to the XMB in FW 3.0! It used to be so sleek, now it’s ugly!

1. Remove the multiple PS Store icons. We all knew where the PS Store was under Network thanks very much.
2. Remove the UGLY grey boxes from the friends list. What were you thinking?
3. Remove the text fade out on the menus. e.g. when browsing a list of videos it’s really not very helpful if the names fade out and I can’t tell which one is which!
4. Make the text font and icon sizes configurable. They are too big now.
5. Make it configurable to completely switch off What’s New so it doesn’t try to load when scrolling through the XMB while online. It’s very annoying.
6. Add an option to switch the ticker off. It’s very annoying.
7. Remove the outline box from the status bar and just have the status info without the box.
