  • When does the whats new update? Kind of pointless if not updated right.

  • @198.. You need to shut up, take your stupid Xbox live fanboyism somewhere else. this isn’t a Xbox blog. no it’s a playstation blog. if you don’t have anything nice to say. then don’t waste our time

  • Dear Ms. Grace,

I sincerely appreciate all the effort put into this latest update. It was a great one all-around! I also appreciate you taking the time to respond to our many, many questions. I’ll keep this as short as possible.

Out of today’s update, I was looking forward to the chance to purchase some premium avatars more than anything. I kept looking over and over again to see if any new, free, avatars had been added to the available mash, or if there was a section on the PlayStation Store where we could purchase them. Sadly, I was let down.

I understand that they are coming, and it may take some time to get them here. That’s fine. I just want to know if we can get some sort of tentative timeframe?

Also, will the Premium Avatars fall under the “Media” or “Themes/Wallpapers” category on the PlayStation Store? Or will the entire PS Store get an overhaul to make room for the new addition?

Thanks in advance for your time and response!

    – Joe

  • @199

    Please go to hell.

    @201

Was I talking to you? No? Get out of my face. Besides nice doesn’t put bread on the table anyways.

Again, this update sucks. My business with SECA is done. Now that I have a PSN account with the JPN PSN store, there is better stuff and the grass is greener on that side of the yard.

Yeah, so you 199, 201 and every other SCAA fanboy can have SCEA and its bulls**t for all I care. JPN PSN store, here I come!

  • Still No Suikoden 2? ohh come on.. >.< do you even listen to the fans?

  • *correction on SCAA to SCEA

  • so about these dynamic themes i bought the LBP one and i loved it. Are the new Avatars going to have movement as well? you know like facial expression?like change the mood of Kratos to happy or mad?lol. stuff like that? that would be very interesting.

  • There are some good suggestions in this comments section. I hope Sony is listening.

I agree with the comment about adding a video preview to the Dynamic Themes. Nothing fancy, just a preview like in the video store. It would help even though I bought the LBP theme (Good job on the theme.I had to get it!)

I also bought a subscription to Qore. I didn’t know that there were mini flash games in each episode. I was happy with the amount of content I recieved. I’m glad I bought it.

Question: Could you put out the Playstaton Store update earlier? It seem kind of pointless to release the update the same time the store goes live. How about earlier in the week?

  • I have some more suggestions:

There should be a demo or preview video for every game on PSN. I know that this doesn’t help you, if the game stinks, and that you are trying to get impulse sells, but I would help your users make a informed decision.

There should also be a rating and/or comments section for ONLY those bought the game. This would help the Developers and Sony know exactly what “works” for the PSN community. This would also help gamers, who bought the game, to give direct feedback and keep out the opinions of those who haven’t played it.

All in all, this was and okay update because of Qore. Also, thank you for puting up Patapon for less than it is in the retail stores. All digital media should be this way (movies included).

Keep making the store more user-friendly and release the PS1 classics we want and you’ll do fine!

  • nice to see more than one song from guitar hero thanks for the update

  • Agree with #207.

I wished Sony would update what is going to be in the store before the day of the store update, and on occasion I just have to check the store because the blog hasn’t updated yet.

The PlayStation Store releases are the last games to come out in a given week, unless there is a game released on Friday which is a rare exception. The Wii/DS store updates on Monday. Retail games are released on Tuesday and sometimes Wednesday. Live Marketplace updates usually very early AM on Wednesday. That means that by the time the PlayStation store updates on Thursday and I find out what got released, I might have already spent my games budget for the week.

If I knew what was coming out in advance, I’d be able to plan to purchase the game at the beginning of the week. Rarely a week goes by where I can’t find something either new or going through the older stuff I want to buy whether it be a game, add-on, etc.

  • I don’t get the point of the ticker, What’s New, or the two extra PS Store icons.

You updated the store, added new games and video.

Yet none of this is reflected in any of the 3 new icons you added to “keep us up to date”. Now, I’m no fan of the extra store icons, but I was at least entertaining the What’s New section. I was hoping it could get more than a bi-weekly update like the information bar did before. But it looks like the information bar just got less text and more thumbnails.

I don’t own a 360, but have been impressed with the ability my friends’ unit demonstrated in making people passively aware of upcoming community events like 1vs100 with Penny Arcade. How do I know about next weeks awesome Resistance 2 showdown unless I read a website? Or RSS? Etc. Make What’s New your portal for community and product. Not the same tired crap we got with the info bar.

  • @203, I’m sure Sony is so upset that you decided to give money to their Japanese division instead of their American division.

    Hahahah, what a moron.

  • Are the avatars animated in anyway or are they still pictures?

  • Pretty good week;will probably buy FEAR 2 DLC and Qore and the 2nd FNR4 demo and the 2K10 Draft Combine demo. But come on Sony, when are you guys gonna tell us about transfering umds to DD(The goodwill program)cause Patapon is the only UMD Legacy game in a while.

  • Hey Sony, are the new avatars going to have to be payed for cause it would be gay if they charged for a damn picture.I’m guessing $2.99?Lol

  • I’m actually starting to get a little tired of the micro transactions and features announced like we’re being done a favor but only end up having to pay for the privilage.

Dynamic themes were the one thing I promoted to other people, now it seems to be a fleecing exercise.

Add in all the extra advertising we now have to put up with and one of my main reasons for choosing sony in the first place is starting to look like it no longer exists.

  • @ 57

Actually it kind of is Sony’s fault due to the fact that they charge developers 16 cents for every gig downloaded and if you have say a demo and 20 million owners download it it costs the developers hundreds of thousands of dollars to put a DEMO up. Also they said that there would be avatars, fallout 3 dlc (don’t recommend anyone buying since all they want is your money so they can do this crap again to you), and if you are annoyed don’t read the comments.

  • Not only just coolboarders but games like rub a dub game. WTF? Where are the tons of titles like RE 2 & RE 3? Where are the PS2 titles? Where are the games? That should be SCEA top priority. Especially when we get titles like coolboarders or basically another reskinned shooter or tower defense title.

  • Its amazing that if you look a little closer to FW3.0 update it didn’t really give us anything new, it only gave Sony the change to bombard our screen with advertising and opportunities to buy various products from Sony on every way possible without adding one single improvement on the PS3 experience.

I mean 3$ for an animated theme??? Thanks for the dynamic backgrounds Sony, i’m sure that’s what the community wanted, a 3$ a pop background.

What a joke, it’s like one big marketing campaign when you start up your PS3. Everything is so ‘in your face now compared to pre 3.0 when it was a nice and quiet XMB.

  • I have the original 60gb ps3 and when i downloaded the 3.0 update i couldnt listen to music and scroll the XMB anymore or look at pictures or anything. Now when i want to listen to music i have to do just that and nothing els.

My friend has the 80gb ps3 and his can still listen to music and scroll the XMB end internet and all that stuff. So what the hell is wrong here sony!

  • You lucky people in the USA
the SCEE store has as yet got no dynamic themes release at all, not one.

But they did put up the very first premium pay theme for Burn zombi Burn, tricking people into thinking it was a Dynamic theme, and robbing them of their money.

    Nice of them huh.

  • @220

u have to change your music settings to 48Hz.

  • @222

thanks but do you know why it has to be at that so i can scroll the XMB

  • @223
Its because music on the hdd is treated the same way cds were.

  • Hey Grace……..Are we getting a Phantasy Star Portable 2 Demo? anytime soon……

  • 3.00 brought nothing but shame to me, I mean the only good feature was dynamic theme, and yet it is not free.

  • Dear Ms. Grace,

Would you please alert us about the release date of “Trine”?
I know they said it was this month, but still.

    Thank you for your time.

    Cody

  • I am wondering why one region got a Free Dynamic Theme, but others didnt. i know one could create a different account to get it, but why should one have to do so.

I was expecting to see some things that complimented the somewhat confusing changes to the XMB with the 3.0 Firmware Update, hopefully that will happen sooner or later.

  • Still no games I like and still hardly any DLC for any of the games I own.

No dynamic themes here, either – at all.

    *yawn*

  • @228

    where are you from?

  • and i also agree.

  • Is it possible to add all these nice descriptions to the items on the PSN Store as well? Because, most of the times, they have no description at all and it’s hard to know what we’re buying exactly (ex: the Capcom packs).

  • No Fallout 3 DLC. Well, I know where my money isn’t going. And here I thought I would have something to play until Uncharted 2.

  • Downloaded qore and notice that we got a demo of dirt 2. Well I got a demo of dirt 2 last week with PS update for free is it the same one? (didn’t have time to play). And I noticed Fight night 4 has 2 demos also. WHY?? some thing I don’t need or want. LOL :)

  • umm i dont know if its just me or.
but in australia we are yet to get any dynamic themes at all…

  • can someone please find out wher and when the Fallout DLC is coming

  • @207,

    said everything.

If I can do a simple theme, And why we can´t create someone? Some animated GIFs, new icons and voilà.

The jpn-psn release a free “Afrika Dynamic theme” (ijuTgUj8lSQ @youtube). Why SCEA not release a a free dynamic pack to try? They are nice, but not so nice pay some dollar to a moving background.

  • Dynamic themes should be $1, I’m not paying $3 for a “nice” background. Also there should be some free ones.

  • There’s a Playstation Store?

Wow, thank god you guys put this on the blog because I never would have known just by firing up my PS3 and looking at the xmb! :/

  • I keep waiting for Hustle Kings to show up anyone know when its coming out????

  • $3 for a dynamic theme is too much, especially when there is no preview of what it does. Do you guys not consider how valuable a simple video or a couple snapshots showing various stages of the theme would be?
EVERYTHING in the store should have a video, demo, or a series of images that shows what the hell you are about to purchase. I consider myself a pretty dedicated gamer in keeping up with what is going on and even I don’t know what some of the games are on the PSN. How the hell do you expect semi-casual gamers to buy something off of a title, thumbnail, and exaggerated description alone?
I have been very patient with the PSN since picking up my launch PS3 and there have been some GREAT changes, but I don’t understand why a simple preview video can’t be included.
Why do companies pass out free samples? maybe that product is for you, maybe it isn’t, but you are more informed as a consumer about your choices…unless of course you are expecting us to blindly click buy; which you are.
You guys say “we are looking into it”, but you should have been “looking into it” ever since these e-commerce days started…years ago.

  • also, 3.0 was a bummer. The ticker and friends boxes need to go. If the friends boxes will eventually be used for a new type of avatar or to display more information, why couldn’t they just be implimented when those features are ready? The white/grey boxes look like crap, seriously.

  • With some tweaks 3.0 can be awesome, I actually like the new font and all, and the ads are NOT all in your face, especially compared to the 360 which force feeds you ads.

Please continue to perfect the XMB and please fix these gosh awful updates lately for the store.

I still prefer my PS3 over my 360 by a ridiculously large margin though.

  • Pretty weak update I must say. Where is Gravity Crash or RE2? Premium Avatars? and 3 dollars for a theme is not very free as the psn sells itself to be. Time to go back to customer service school. btw you guys should really consider fixing all the stupid things you guys F’d up in 3.0, cause it’s the worst update you guys have ever had for the ps3.

  • @grace agreed with the other people wanting previews. I’m not laying out $3 or more for a theme without seeing what it looks like at least.

IMHO someone needs to enforce the preview button option on all downloads in the future.

  • The preview function added to the store since it was changed from the website-based it was before, but rarely any game uses it, please add a video preview as well as some screenshots on the description of every game on the store.

  • No free theme for us to see if we even like it? Com’on guys, seriously.

  • This is the best update ever, thanks!

  • Cool Boarders 3, enough said! The best of the Cool Boarders franchise. I’ve waited for this game to be released for more than 2 years so that I can play it on my PSP. Very awesome! Keep the PS Classics coming!
