Fresh out of the Spike Sneak Peeks PAX panel comes a very special announcement from Naughty Dog’s Creative Director Amy Hennig — the UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves Fortune Hunter Edition!
Included in this special package is the game, exact in-game replica of the Phurba Dagger Artifact and stand, Collectible Art Book and Collector case autographed by Naughty Dog, plus a host of downloads.
And part of what makes the Fortune Hunter Edition a real fan collectible is that you can’t buy it — you can only win it! There will be several ways to win including right here on the Blog. Stay tuned as we’ll have more details on that in the very near future!

Finally, I have been waiting to preorder since the collectors edition proposition was introduced back in Febuary. I know i have a very low probability of winning but i am going to try my best for it. I hope there is a twitter contest, i am pretty good at that. The game comes out the day after my birthday. if i won, that would be the best birthday present ever.
I have a small bit a disagreement with part of this. Let me start by saying I can’t wait to play this awesome game, but one way to win is to be in a multiplayer demo that is given out to preorders. In other words, to have a chance to win from the demo, you must have already purchased the game. That is kind of weak sauce. Hope I can win one from some other source!!

I want to make this clear. I’m not mad at Sony or Naughty Dog for doing this. Its very cool that your doing this for the fans, giving away these 200 Limited Editions.
But to tell the truth I have supported PlayStation since the PS1 and buy mostly exclusives for the systems. I too was holding out for an edition like this to buy. But knowing my luck ( never got into any betas or win anything, heck I bought inFamous to play Uncharted 2 beta and didn’t get in.)

I’ve never been one to rant or troll on blogs before, especially on a first posting, but seriously?
You have on your hands one of the biggest potential killer apps in Sony exclusive history? and instead of releasing a limited edition in stores which would probably make a killing, you only produce 200 Limited Edition copies, which you can only win if you’re a US resident? probably by some stupid competition which to be cynical probably involves non stop blogging and/or chain mailing because most of these competitions turn out to be nothing short of popularity contests.
Some of us unfortunately don’t have the time to constantly refresh internet blogs in order to even look for competitions like this, let alone be based in the US.

OMG!! I am so sad now, because I never win anything… And this has to be the coolest Limited Edition I have ever seen.
I had so much fun playing in the first Beta that I was about to hit Rank 50 when it came to an end on me.
To have this would be so Awesome I can’t even begin to put it into words. (I wish they would have gave them away to everyone who ranked high in the beta, that would have been so cool)
Well if there is any company I would sell my soul and everything I own just to work there it would be, Naughty Dog.

This appears to be one of the few decent CEs to be created in recent memory, and one I was going to immediately order. Although the price is certainly high, I’m not certain how fair it is
Of the “only 200 copies” made…
How many have been set aside for Naughty Dog employees…? And as gifts for SCEA execs…?
After taking those numbers into account, how many ACTUAL copies realistically remain to be given away as contest prizes?
Additionally, one must first preorder a copy from a specific retailer… to get the MP demo… to win a copy? Therefore folks who win will still be “expected” to buy a copy at retail?
Lastly, while I certainly have the time, I have little chance of winning. I’ve been a gamer for a very long time, but I’m now 46, disabled from a rare chronic illness, and nowhere as fast as any of the teens here in this thread.
I’ll still give it a go with one of the “other ways to win”. But realistically my chances are better that someone will suddenly discover a cure for my illness than my winning a copy of the CE. And to think that I AM being positive about this… *sIgh*.

Well I guess we in the UK will have to settle with buying the special edition which comes with a ps3 theme, multiplayer skins, two golden guns and post cards. Still i hope theres a competition for us in the UK.

This is a bad idea. A very bad idea. People have been lauding over the fact that ND and Sony are making the ‘Limited’ in ‘Limited Edition’ actually mean what it says for a change. I prefer to refer to these as Collectors Editions. Freely available to anyone who wants to pay a bit extra and take home some exclusive stuff (often plastic bits of tat, but often some nice collectibles too). It’s a nice idea in theory, but terrible in practice.
With only 200 of these made, that is an incredibly tiny group of fans who will get the special edition that we’ve all been waiting months for ND to announce (let alone actually putting in a suggestion as ND asked us a few months ago). I live in the UK, so I won’t be eligible to enter this competition. This means I lose out on something that looks as great as this purely because of where I live!
What are you going to do? Release another 200 for UK/Europe? Making the 200 already in the homes of americans feel cheapened somewhat?
I pay over the odds for collectors editions for games that I am definitely going to enjoy. People are saying they would pay $100 for this if it was available to buy. In the UK, thats about £60, which is what I paid for the cheap and tacky Batman AA special edition. I just spent £130 ($212 by todays conversion rate) on DJ Hero Renegade Edition and £120 ($196) on Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition (). I would gladly pay similar for this edition, maybe I have more money than sense!
This game is very hotly anticipated, I loved the first one to bits, to have what looks quite possibly ‘Game Of The Year’ and just sit on money making potential just makes really bad financial sense. In a lot of cases, you will find many people complaining over prices and money-grabbing industry strategies, but here you have the rare instance of people quite literally promising to throw you money for one of these. You are really missing the trick here, but more fool you. The regular edition will probably fly off the shelves, but you can’t tell me Sony execs are calmly waving off the potential to make an extra 20-40 bucks on each sale!
I guess the people who ebay their copy for even $100 or above (and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it at $1000) will be making insane profit. At least I can take some satisfaction that whatever these shysters make from auctioning them off, Sony won’t be getting a penny of it. The odds are extremely slim for any americans too, plus the idea of having to preorder the game, to get the multiplayer demo to stand a chance of winning is just such a retarded idea!
I know you don’t really care about customers, despite that being most companies ethos to gain sales. I know you won’t cancel this competition to mass produce these. I know you probably won’t even bother with a slightly less awesome edition (GAME in the UK is selling a £50 edition that comes with some gold guns to download and 2 postcards, but that is very weak). I just wanted to air my (overly long) views.

I think this might be vuagely clever. If nothing else it will encourage more people to download the demo if there is a competition behind it, and more people to go into HOME to try and win, and more people to come to the blog.
Sony are thinking long term with this one, just like they thougth long term with inFamous and the beta. If they can get more people to download the demo, more people will buy the final game. If they get more people into home, they’ll get more advertising money and stuff from micro transactions. If they get more people on the blog, they will get more people reading all about playstation and getting involved.
Still, ignoring Europe is dumb since that’s where the first game started to sell really well.
I hope we Europeans can aren’t left out….like always.

Now that is a limited edition. Hopefully, I can get my hands on one. Loved the first game, can’t wait for this one. Played the beta at my friend’s house and I can’t wait for the MP demo to come out.

i’m sure Europe will get a Limited Edition and it might even be easier to get, “the first 5 customers that reserved a copy of Uncharted 2 and walk into a (Gamestop) game retailer, will be automatically upgraded to Limited Edition”. i just hope i can win cuz i never win anything i enter Here’s hoping Fortune favor’s the unlucky (and i’m still looking to crack a theory to winning wide open).
