hello to all .. I have been aware of the comments as my ps3 not reading games since the update .. beautiful service killed my ps3, the DVD player not even read .. look at it so feel like crying for the money and I even I who blew .. please tell me what I do with my ps3, I expect a new update to think that will solve the dvd drives?? damn it’s been 9 or 10 days or play or do anything with it..

I’m beginning to think a patch won’t fix the real problems of 3.0. It seems to be having more and more issues as time goes on. This leads me to believe that the entire 3.0 update is flawed and a patch isn’t going to fix all these issues. So far there’s game freezes, connection issues, controller issues, Blu Ray player not working, error codes coming up and bricking the system. Even with Microsoft updates there would be the bricking of systems which is understandable because you are flashing a chip and it’s always a possibility, but the freezing issues have to be something related to accessing the drive or the drive speed itself. Any hardware related problem should have an error code and it should be consistent hence the E74 360 hardware failure. Whoever wrote this code for the update really needs to be fired because it is a complete and utter mess.
so just spent more than hour playing devil may cry 4 – no freezing… still not going to say 100% that what the tech had me do yesterday fixed it but I sure am hoping so… only saying this due to the fact that I did not get to the same point in the game where i was getting the freeze since i chose to explore more
thanks to Logan (the ps3 tech for the what I hope is the right fix)
he had me hold down the power button, get the one beep, then the two then third beep it turns itself off, wait a second, hold the power button down, one beep, then a two beep and let up on the power button, this should leave the system on and a sub main screen comes on where you have 5 choices – several different restore options – choose the third one down.
So far, its worked for me.
ah but my ps3 does not present error .. the problem is the same methodology that the games that I have to play and no work not even start .. I play online so the update appears me I am obliged to accept, and eventually ruined the ps3 .. so not me useless, and the money spent in games .. horrible to think about it all on the ps3 .. do not know what to do because I believe that the security should have the last two years,need see it. bought early on :(
I just wanted to post one more time. Fortunately I have no updated my classic 60 gig PS3. The whole thing about games and dvd’s not even working I wanted to agree with DutchieDonut. My system is used just as much (if not more) as an entertainment center for music and such as game playing. I am concerned about the following issues below. Please fix these issues.
1. Why can’t I hit the PS button and browse other music while I’m listening to a track. Why am I forced to quit
2. Likewise, why can’t I listen to music and browse the Internet?
3. Why is there what seems like a 2 second delay when I select a music track before I play it? Is it just for the special effects? It seems like the damn thing is broken when it takes that long.
4. Why to the other tracks disappear after I hover over a track for a while? That is truly ridiculous. Do other links disappear off a web page after I hover for a second? No. No one expects this as default functionality.
5. What happened to the attractive orb-planet thing which indicated the PS was busy. Now we have an ugly clock that switches between being a clock, and a busy signal. Ridiculous.

Really not getting why they are not taking the firmware off or at least making it optional.
So the choice becomes that either update the firmware and risk the PS3 to be bricked. Or lose the ability to access PSN until next firmware. Stuffs like this is reason for wanting to kick some butt!! But wait, butt kicking is impossible with friends because did not want to update the risky beta-like firmware.
Seems like no one is reading the comments on the US blog, on the EU blog, at least there was short, although still useless, Q&A entry.

I’ve tried the restore file system option and it partly worked, it allowed me to read DVDs again but not BD, however once I tried a BD it froze up again and once I got back to XMB it wouldn’t read DVDs again either. Did another file restore and got DVDs back and am now going to have to stay away from anything BD (games and movies).

The PS3 extended the upsampling capability to audio tracks stored on HDD and storage media with v3.00. Some function on the XMB such as the internet browser and photo gallery outputs with 48KHz only so you need to set audio outputs as 48Khz to enjoy music and net surfing.

Ozo, aka 1111 – call the tech support line and ask them to walk you thru getting into that menu, it took me a couple of tries to get it right. It can be a little tricky. I think it was the third time I finally got the PS3 to stay on and we did the restore. I did not try the restore from our normal menu options but this weird sub way I knew nothing about. I will play again tonight after work and take myself to the point where the came is freezing and see what happens. I actually dont own Uncharted (yet) as it wasnt a game I was interested in until I tried the demo a few weeks ago so I will see about getting it and seeing if it freezes as well. I still am hoping for a new firmware to resolve these issues as well since I paid a lot as mine is the 80g full backwards compatible..
Am glad you guys are working on a fix. I also like to see some changes in the PS3 music player, the album arts are too small and that spoils the beauty of it. Also, the copy multiple function is not available when copying contents from the PS3 to an external drive. This function is only available when coming from a drive to the ps3. Further more, its not possible to use a theme backgorund image while retaining the classic icons. You can use theme Icons but change the backround image so the reverse should be made available. Sony keep up the good work you guys rock. Playstation for life. One love.
I just got a new slim and uncharted and now i cant even play it.I see a countdown for uncharted 2,But now I need a countdown for uncharted update to play the first one? I think im going to take this one back and get one without the update just so I can play uncarted.Sucks to do that but I want to play.

As with everyone else, this is very frustrating. My issues is that I cannot pay any of my 16 games without them freezing after about 10 minutes. I spent most of the day reformatting the hard drive (which took 4.5 hours), resetting the system default settings), and forcing the 3.0 update to install again (done in safe mode as previously posted). I call the hotline and they walked me through the safe mode option 3 and it did not fix it. I am extremely upset with this last update since it has rendered my PS3 useless. Their fix, which better come soon, better fix it since my PS3 is over a year old and customer service said that it would cost $150 to get service.
I don’t care how the friends list or XMB look. I bought a PS3 after I’d had an Xbox 360 for a year and a half and I haven’t really played it since. I wanted to watch Blu-Ray and play COD online and until update 3.0, the PS3 was far superior. Now I get 20 minutes into a movie or play a couple matches online and my system freezes. I can’t even get back to the XMB or shut it off with the PS button. As so many others have said, my system is completely useless. I want to use my system and couldn’t care less how pretty the menu or background is. Unless an update improves performance I want to have the option of downloading it instead of being forced to have it so my PS3 will work. As it is I have downloaded the update and my PS3 is now just a big paperweight. The solution seems really simple: bring back the last update and make stupid cosmetic updates optional from now on. If Sony can’t come up with a solution soon I will never buy another of their products again no matter how cool their products are supposed to be. I hope many others follow suit.
Fix UNCHARTED! I got my red ringed 360 back in less time!
So far mine is working with the 3.0 update. My only complaint is the grey boxes around the friends list, that is an eye sore. Now if we could put our own custom graphics in those boxes then that may be a good thing. And please fix this update for those having problems, I know what its like to have a useless ps3, it sux.

I forgot mine set to on and given the fact that Firmware 3.0 makes the PS3 heat faster than ever mine just died for that reason.
I’ll stay clear from Sony products for quite sometime now. I never had any luck with their products aside a few walkmans in the 80’s and my PS Zero (which was a exception, since most had problems with the laser canon after a few months).
All their micro-systems tended to break and jam in no time and unfortunately the PS3 is no different. And to make things even worst their support isn’t something that you can call “top notch”.

My 80 gig died from the same thing. I think it’s how sony is pushing the new slim. If you ask me it looks like they are killing the old units. they obviously know what the update is doing, why wont they fix it?? I lost my 80gig with BC on the first day of the update. Sony wanted me to sent it to them plus another $200 bucks to send me a referb unit, lucky for me the guy at my local Gamestop told me to bring it to him, he took my unit home with him and fixed it for $110 and warned me about Sony’s dirty little secret. I’m glad he warned me I almost fell for the Sony method.. nice try SCEA but I’m not so easy to scam.

Personally I’m giving up, I’m getting my money back. There’s no point in owning this console. I picked it up 2 weeks ago and as someone has said above me, I’ve had a replacement Xbox 360 in this time. However I’m not giving up on the fact that everyone should know.
If Sony can’t be bothered to fix something that is broken, then I’m having my money back. If Sony can’t be bother to COMMUNICATE to their consumers, then I’m talking to Trading Standards.
The update is working fine for my system but my Uncharted Drake’s Fortune game keeps on freezing and it freezes in the same spot on one level.I don’t know if it’s the game or my system.Anybody know?

I have a first gen 60gig ps3 that is now useless until the update for fw3.00. I had my madden disk in the system when it updated and since the update I cannot get the madden 10 disk out and it doesn’t show up on the main screen as a playable game. So now I am basically stuck with a paperweight that won’t give me my game back and unable to play Batman AA until a fix. Please hurry Sony my head is exploding without my gaming fix.
Absolutely pathetic. My PS3 is going back to the store and Sony is going on my “do not buy” list. Way to go acquiring new customers.
Why have they forsaken us they should at least on this site let us download 2.80 into a storage media and then see if they can fix 3.00

I just finished the update and like those before me Uncharted now freezes, and I am unable to use my controller to turn the off or reset. Some update.
I don’t mind the graphics part of the update. some thing look nice (dynamic themes). I can live with the friends list, but I do get the lines. It’s broken games. I’m forced to update if I want to play the PS3 online or browse the store. Make them optional again. If you did would not have as many complaints.
I will think twice about updating again. I don’t mind new features, it is broken game as to why I don’t want to update. I usually wait a day or two to make sure.

I’m pretty disappointed and surprised by the length of time this issue has gone on for. I bought a PS3 slim a couple of weeks ago and I can’t play Uncharted since it freezes constantly since the firmware update. This is my first Sony console and this isn’t confidence inspiring…
This is now officially lame. Its been 2 weeks and STILL no fix to the Uncharted 3.00 freezing issue.
By comparison, when my 360 was hit with the RRoD, it took a total of 13 days to get it back from MS in perfect working condition.

after 2 weeks…no update as to how ps is doing with their ‘fix’, no option for affected users to switch back to 2.8….no nothing really….to the average person (that doesnt want to sit on hold for an hour while some esl tells me they are working on it) it sure seems like nothing is getting done…is it really that hard to revert to a 2.8 until you fix all these problems with your ‘new and improved’ 3.0?!?

Just bought a PS3 slim and uncharted. Downloaded the new firmware and had 5 of the best gaming hours of my life then the game froze. Rebooted and it froze while loading my latest save. Can’t even get the damn thing to load to my last save now. After reading about the issues with the firmware 3.0 update here I was thinking I would have gotten more enjoyment out of watching my 3 c-notes burn. What a piece of crap. I can’t even get more than five hours out of the system before it’s f’d. Way to go Sony. That coder better pay with his job. I will be returning my system only to wonder what could have been. That whole group at Sony needs to be fired for not only the screw up, but not keeping your customers informed other than some bs system generated sounding email sent two weeks ago.
First gen 60gb model. I have been very happy with it. Upgrading to Firmware 3.00 was a condition of playing the Beatles Rockband game. The firmware installed just fine. No ISP issues, power outages, etc.
While the PS3 is not a “paperweight”, “borked” is a better term than “bricked”.It no longer plays optical disks. I can boot to the XMB. I am hopeful that Sony releases a new firmware patch to fix the issue,
I played a couple of songs in Rockband before my first in-game freeze. Rebooted and played a few more songs before the second in-game freeze. Now it no longer loads optical media. It sees a disk in the drive but playing anything results in hanging on a black screen.
My experience with the PS3 has been positive. I’m upset that one cornerstone of my home theater (DVD/BluRay/Games) has been broken by this firmware. I had the rug pulled out from under a planned afternoon of fun, playing Beatles Rockband. Being Beatles fans we had a certain level of excitement and anticipation built up and shot down.

All of a sudden, PS3 firmware 3.01 is available for me to download. Has anyone else seen this, downloaded, and tried it out? There’s no official posting on it yet, but it’s there.
When I checked for a system update 5 mins ago it alerted me that version 3.01 was available. I am scared to download it.

I never had any of the issues other people had with 3.01, so I can’t tell what’s fixed. But it IS installed, and system information notes it as 3.01.
