  • @94 – I have the same issue also and I am using IE 8. I guess we have the emoticon issue and this now.

  • Thanks for the Update SONY. When the comments got locked a few days ago, I was getting worried that you was ignoring these legitimate problems. That doesn’t seem to be the case, hopefully.

    These are my personal issues:

    – Sometimes the colour of the background wave gets locked, being it can no longer change colour when I go into themes settings. Even when I log out of certain account the colour remains (In this case) Blue. The only way to correct this is turing of the Console
    – Friends list takes actually LONGER to load friends
    – The Friends list boxes look undeniably Ugly, they DO NOT fit in with the rest of the XMB. However there is a big potential with the idea if the atheists was changed (Maybe a clear blur effect similar to the other new feature that was added?), and display the Trophy info in the new box.
    – The large icons SHOULD be optional, I mean, they look OKish but the previous 2.80 look much more elegant.
    – PLAYSTATION 3 Splash screen, should return, albeit with the “new” PS3 logo and the sound, or maybe a new sound?

Other than that, it was a good update. I like the whats new section, sparkly background etc etc.

    Regards.

  • I got a really great idea, why don’t you make 2 firmware updates, a must-have security update and an additional design update.

That would be the greatest thing ever.

  • I just wanted to say thanks for acknowledging the concerns. I think thats all that any of us wanted was for you guys to say you hear us and that your working on it. Please let them know that in the future the dead silent approach is not a good one for handling the issues that come up.

Oh, by the way, I actually like the 3.00 update but some more flexability would be nice. Let us set the font size and have the choice to turn off the ticker.

  • It’s a shame a 3.0 firmware update with such a minuscule amount of new, useful features went so wrong. Gamers all over the internet hate it and I hope Sony listens:

-Fix the horrible gray friends list eyesore. At least darken the color and make it match the theme or just remove it.
-Disable the ticker at the top, we already have THREE store icons AND a What’s New section.
-3 PSN store icons are ridiculous, the extra 2 should be covered in “What’s new”.

Where are the new features Gamers can actually USE???
-Cross game voice chat is needed.
    -Party invites are needed.
-A better web browser (since so many of the links are web based this is essential) is needed. Webkit-based might be ideal. One that doesn’t lock up the whole console after extended use.
    -Still no new Avatars?

  • Riddle me this batman.
How can you post PlayStation®3 System Software Version 3.0 web page with detailed directions of what to expect, yet deliver a product that can’t live up to the direction? You’ve got us jumping through hoops trying to disable this, or tweak that. Seems like your putting the cart before the horse here. ♠

  • I must admit that this last firmware update is not something people wanted really, theres things more important that needs to be add or could have been added before this..
I dont really know why you did all those changes
Anyway the messages indicator is not working

  • Makes me wonder…..are these issues legitimate or just more people who’s butt hurt because they don’t like certain aspects of the update? I’m just saying….I’ve had zero problems with this or any update. Not one!! Maybe it’s because I’m still rockin’ my launch unit. But of course I’m probably setting myself for a potential problem by proclaiming that I don’t have a problem….aaaaaah IRONY.

  • every since i updated to 3.0 i haven’t been able to see the ps3 mic icon like i use to…before 3.0 i could hit the mute button on the ps3 mic and the icon would pop up on the screen and i could see the battery life and that it was muted… i can no longer do it now…. and i even deleted the mic and re-synced it.

  • I wonder if “PS2 BC still doesn’t work” counts as an isolated issue :-)

Being slightly less sarcastic, if they push out another update, perhaps they’ll resolve the major complaints with 3.0; Personally I haven’t updated yet, for the following reasons:
    1) Playstation store icon spam
    2) Inconveniently huge fonts [makes it harder not easier to navigate on large TVs]
    3) Apparent inability to turn off tickers and other give-sony-money-related-graphics
    4) Default UI entry on the game console is no longer “play a game”, the button I use more than all the others put together.

There’s other minor cosmetic things I don’t-like-but-could-get-used-to [hideous friends list, lack of orchestra sound on game start], but I consider the things listed above to be prohibitive to actually using the console.

    Gary

  • 1) Please consider adding an option to disable the ticker. There really isn’t much to be gained by forcing me to see phrases such as “Over 20 Iconic Queen Songs” or “Girlz Play Too” scroll beneath the clock several times a day.
    2) I understand that a larger font might be useful for age 30+ gamers with bad eyes, but an option to select the desired font size would be appreciated as well.
    3) I promise to visit the Playstation Store just as frequently if there is only one icon. I might even visit it more just to show my appreciation.
    4) On a positive note, thank you for allowing us to turn off the sparkles.

  • Hi, I’m new to the PS3 club, as I’ve just purchased a 120GB “Slim” last week.

I’ve not noticed any real big performance issues thus for, EXCEPT for the vibration function that used to work with a certain game (The Darkness) prior to 3.0 but does not function with this game anymore and a few minor hiccups with HOME.

Overall though the controller is mostly responsive and I find games seem to run a bit faster and with more fluidity. Although relating to the vibration function that seems to be pulled from certain games that were supported with 2.80 PLEASE HElP!

Cosmetically I don’t mind it too much and don’t find it a huge overhaul compared to 2.80. I find some things, such as the bigger font and most related cosmetic changes are much more obtrusive and noticeable on standart 4:3 tv sets/monitors. Although when connected to a HD tv/monitor it does help a touch. Thank you for your attention and consideration all divisions of SONY.

  • Well, since I know Sony will look at this…

Youtube doesn’t work. I had to rebuild the system twice after the browser froze. Also, certain sites when posting a reply or comment (gamespot.com, for example). Sony, I use the browser ALOT (I’m using it to type this!) so please fix these cuz I’ll have nothing to do :(.

Also, I’ve had some freezing problems with Uncharted.

And before I forget fix the grey bar in the friends list, either jam in trophies or get rid of it. I love the new background and What’s New so keep the updates coming!

  • @79

Only if you got yours from Santa, I’ve paid almost USD 1500 in mine years ago. And I still indirectly pay when I buy stuff on the PS Store, Games, official accessories and even Blue Discs.

  • Sony, why mess with something that wasn’t broke?

  • At least allow us to adjust the icon size. It really is the only thing that bothers me. I love everything else. The store icons highlight new content I otherwise wouldn’t see by going to the site itself. The new friends lists actually make them stand out which is easier for me to locate them.

  • wow, who woulda thought bigger fonts, couple new SHORTCUTS, and a tiny lil ticker would cause such a conundrum, now Im kinda excited to see wut would happen if sony ever decided to charge for online gaming, o the chaos that would take place…..anyways this is a pretty underwhelming update and the grey boxes are an eyesore (but no real complaints since Im expecting something cool to come out of it…like dynamic avatars or something)……all the other stuff I can easily adjust to since it’s just a menu after all and is still as functional as it was b4 (…well for me anyways, the functionality issues people are having needs to be corrected)

I think Sony should just give people the option to adjust/remove the features that the majority of the “xmb design/UI experts” are whining about, that way we all get some piece of mind and the whining will en…..well there will be less of it.

  • Although I’m not a new to the PS Family (but new to the PS3 club as stated), and have been a faithful consumer and SONY fan up to this point in time. I would rather that my relationship not be a very hectic and tarnished one (or I may just return it.)
Regards and thanks again. Peace. Later.

  • If you need a fake controller to look at, I’d be good to drive up to Foster City. =D

  • “Sony, why mess with something that wasn’t broke?”
You spoke out what I have thinked of.
It was so much better before the update, and now?

  • Dear SONY this is ALL you need to do:

    Give us the options to:
    – Use previous smaller font/icons
    – Option to get rid of the ticker
    – option to get rid of the gray bars on the
friend lists (make it like before)
    – Improve overall stability and compatibility
    with games (Like Uncharted)

    That is all, thank you

  • just putting in my two cents:

    – Give us the option to disable the ticker on the top right.
    – Give us the option to choose the font size (on my HDtv the fonts are HUGE).
    – Give us the option to turn off the extraneous PSN Store Links.
    – Add transparency or give us the option to turn off the gray boxes on the friend’s list.

Next time, please don’t let your marketing dept. design your user interface.

    Thanks!

  • Please remove the gray boxes on the friends list and bring back the PS3 logo and it’s nice chime when starting again.

Also, don’t change the game boxes, our collections won’t look good, please don’t ignore your long time fans. Or at least include both covers on every game from now on.

  • u better f***ing hurry i dont hate 3.0 but i dont like it if u guys hadn’t bragged about it then u wouldn’t have gotten every ones hopes up, just look at all ur negative feed back in the forums

  • Please remove the gray boxes on the friends list and bring back the PS3 logo and it’s nice chime when starting a game.

Also, don’t change the game boxes, our collections won’t look good, please don’t ignore your long time fans. Or at least include both covers on every game from now on.

  • Yes I’m missing the chime and boot-logo too.

  • @116
It’s pretty simple AthrenZ, people would sell their PS3 and replace them for 360 or simply jump over OnLive once it’s released ;)

Or just leave them as BD, MediaServer players and forget gamming. Either way it wouldn’t be very profitable for Sony.

And the complaints are all valid, 3.0 looks unfinished with bad design choices and a annoying ticker.

  • Heres my thoughts.

    – Get rid of the ugly grey friend boxes.
    – Get rid of the text under each setting option, the title is enough info.
    – the font and icon size on the xmb is way to big, makes my hdtv look like its running a wii.
    – The ticker box is ugly as crap, seriously how did this update get through quality control? The xmb is one of Sony’s key selling points for some people, and this update has turned it to trash, doesn’t look simple and clean at all anymore.
    – When you hold your circle ps button in to turn the system off or so on, why is this still a 80’s looking black screen, surely you can make it a bit more pretty, say a small circle box that pops up dimmed.

At the end of the day, these are all little things, but sometimes its the little things that matter the most.

  • BRING BACK THE CLASSIC STARTUP SOUND!!! u guy can keep the PS3 logo just add an option to the theme section for this option and a way to restore the old PS3 game boot logo or add the new PS3 logo to the old game boot up screen with the ding sound and have option for quick load if users want it under setting. Also cause I like classic so much have an option for the loading bubble that was in the upper right hand corner somewhere I don’t like the new clock ticker icon as a loading indicator. An thanks for considering our ideas Sony and providing support to us users.

  • YES! i’m me again that was weird.. anyway in addition to my idea for a blu ray logo

to light up the screen when you boot a blu ray movie. also

maybe make it so the sparkles can go over
our themes i would love it if my demon angels

    had sparkles all over them.

  • you guys who post rude things bout 3.00 r terrible! What Happen to the golden rule “if u dont have any thing nice 2 say dont say it all?”
I personally luv 3.00 because i have alot of brite wallpapers and the grey boxes and fading background really helps! Thx SONY keep up the awesome work!!

  • @79: “My FAVORITE PART is WHEN PEOPLE COMPLAIN for SOMETHING THEY GET for FREE.”

Actually, it’s more like complaining that I spent four hundred dollars on something, then the guy I bought it from says “hey, here’s a free update for it” that actually screws it up.

I could kick you in the nuts for free, but you wouldn’t think that was a good deal either.

    Gary (-;

  • It’s all about options.
    That’s all I ask!
Just give me the option to not have the new XMB.
As in make the font the normal size before, maybe have an option under the system settings called HD-XMB and SD-XMB. Have another called GamerCard Friend list or Classic FriendList

I think the PSStore links are fine under video and games and network as they give you previews and take you to the respective store. This would not be an issue had the options to turn these unwanted additions off been added as well.

I appreciate FW 3.00 and this post on the status of a fix.

Obviously there needs to be better communication between the FW Dev’s and the people actually using it.

  • just posting what i said so people know im not dotcody

Hey what happened to the option you said we could have if we didn’t like the new look of the xmb?
i.e. friend’s list.. making 1080p look like 480p.. oh yah and how about the

playstation 3 logo when i boot up my games i loved that had no idea that was in the hardware thought it was
in the software… hey heres a thought instead of us having just a black screen for blu ray movies which is extremely annoying when all the lights are off .. why dont you guys make a blu ray disc logo for movies
    when they boot.

and at the same time bring back the platstation 3 boot plz k bye thx.

  • That’s it? Yikes! Surely Sony is not ignoring gamers/consumers and plans to implement new options based on feedback. Specifically font/icon resizing.

  • Honestly I could only take reading about thirty of the comments. But I want to add my voice to this post. I also dislike the new friends list its hard to tell whose online and whose not compared to before. Also the store icons are like cluttering up the whole thing and when i start up the system i dont like it to automatically go to whats new section.

  • I have had no issues at all with my 3.0 update

  • please old boot and game chime. also please replace icons and fonts by the old ones.

  • Everything is running smoothly here *Knock on wood*!!!

  • Really, aside from people with legitimate glitches I feel the people that are getting angry are over reacting. Was I a bit disappointed with the cosmetic changes? Yes. Was it worth some of the emotionally charged comments I have seen around the Internet? No.

Only one thing bothered me greatly: The info bar that I can’t turn off. I turned off my RSS feed for a reason, and that wasn’t so you could bring it back.

If you want a way to fix these non-glitch issues I have an answer for you: Options in the settings for Classic and New XMB.

  • @135

That and the glitter are the only two annoying things that you can turn off in this Firmware.

Friends list, ticker, and store icons you have to bare with. Something that is not right and should also have the option to be turned off.

  • I can’t play my games anymore! And now it won’t connect to PSN…..

  • btw.. I like the grey bars on the friends list. Although an option to turn them off would be cool

  • 2:35 mark!
You can CHANGE the look of the new xmb if

you don’t like it to classic.. it doesn’t
do anything except takeaway those stupid sparkles!

    https://blog.playstation.com/2009/08/playstation-3-firmware-v3-00-update/

  • @139

And that’s exactly what people are asking for. Options.

I don’t think that Firmware 3.0 was a complete step backwards, but in design terms it is.

  • This update has made my ps3 so ugly, I don’t want to turn it on anymore, and play games. I miss the old look. Ps3 has been off for 3 days.

  • I’m not usually a person that complains about the firmwares that SONY releases and while I don’t agree why people complains about the font size or playstation logo at startup.

I agree with the complains about three PSN stores is too much and it’s just cluttering the interface.

Another thing is the friend list, I believe SONY approach here is good but it’s just the box design it’s really ugly.

  • also i have a plasma and i get image retention from the little box in the top right

on the xmb i would like the option to turn that off please.

  • For everyone who doesn’t like the XMB defaulting to What’s New when they log in:

Under the System Settings, set Display [ What’s New ] to off.

  • PLEASE SONY bring back the old PS3 logo before starting the game PLEEEEEEEEEEASEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!
