Please, release your next patch as 3.10 but also, repackage 2.80 as 3.01 (downloadable .pup) for those of us who wants to go back to 2.80 plain and simple.

Why oh why is my friends list Abnormally large and with hideous gray blocks on every friend I have. Thank you 3.0.

Now I’m not one to care much for the “What’s New” section because that can be turned off, and I also could care less about the PS Store being plugged every 10 seconds, but I am enormously annoyed when the thing I look at the most, my friends list is cluttered with gigantic gray blocks and the size an old persons keyboard.

Please Please Sony, or anyone else if they found out how tell me and the rest of the fine patrons of the PS3 how to change this obnoxious off.

Thank you.

@121 your list is even beter than mine, I forgot about the option to – Give us the option to turn off the extra PSN Store Links.

This very important at least do it for us Canadians, since we this icon in ht emovie section of the XMB and it displays NOTHING since we dont have video store here.
Thank you

Like many others, I ask that the interface be returned to what it was before the update. I like the new multi audio out, I think the new dynamic themes can be good. I don’t like the bigger font, the ticker, the blurring– basically every other new interface change in 3.0. I really want 2.8 back, let’s put it that way. Remember, Sony, you yourselves said the average user is 28 on PSN, so we don’t need kid sized fonts and 3 PSN store links. We’re smart enough to figure it out. Please, go back to the nice, elegant interface of 2.8.

Please on top of the functionality, change the things that loyal users (like me) are asking for:

*Change back the friend’s list (Grey box is horrible!)
*Bring back the jingle and logo when you launch a game
*Leave only ONE playstation store icon in all of the XMB

you can leave the “whats new section” to deliver your advertising (Which is probably why you did the update in the first place).

Thank you in advance!!!

How about you guys bring back the PLAYSTATION 3 jingle everytime you boot up a game? I know you guys are getting rid of the old logo, but you can just replace the old font with the new one and keep the freaking jingle! I love that jingle!

haha, ur prolly right about the console replacement thing, free online gaming is my major bonus for having a ps3, I’ve had a 360 for about a year and still refuse to go gold…..

Anyways didn’t say any1 had invalid complaints (tho I guess I did do a lil mocking due to the immaturity of some of the whiners, my apologies), to me its all just a matter of opinion, I can ignore the ticker (the other info in that box is useful to me),barely even notice the fonts/icons, could always use a shortcut (even one that tries to get me to purchase) but like I said in previous post thats just me (maybe I have bad design sense :oP) and we should be given the option to adjust/remove em.

I think it’s important than any with concerns, report them here, even if it is getting repetitious. As long as we stay civil, and reasonably constructive, we’re doing what any consumer has a right to do.

On that note, Thanks for the update, and I hope that the following is applied to the next firmware update:
-options to disable the ticker; and hide the store icons under video (useless here in Canada); and Games.
-option to disable “What’s New”, or to customize it with fansites; PS Blog(!) updates; upcoming games, etc.

Thanks again,

What’s New needs to be replaced with RSS and Sony I will even advocate you including a default feed for the PSBlog. (Of course that we can change if we want)

The ticker in the top right need to be gone!

Most of the complaints (from myself included) would vanish if with each new cosmetic upgrade came system configurations to turn them off.

Has anyone had headset errors though? Mine will indicate its on and noticed by the console, but will not transmit sometimes. Turning it off and on again while in the game tends to fix it fast, but once I quit to the XMB it bugs out again. (I’m using the official PS3 bluetooth headset by the way.)

i got a slim, everything is working fine for me, i have not tried it on my 60 gb yet and i wont just in case….ill let you people do the testing
the only minor complain i have is the grey boxes, and not because they are grey ( option to change to color of box would be nice ) but because they look empty, more info about the user, as in trophies and more would be the icing on the cake
anyway, i love the update, everything seems faster, especially dl from the store and loading games

PROBLEM WITH DUAL-CHANNEL AUDIO OUTPUT:

I have HDMI set as the primary output and a connection to my stereo using analog (composite). There is a timing issue with the audio output that pretty much makes the new feature unusable.

I do not have a digital stereo, so I do not know if with this as well.

+ KidCommando on September 4th, 2009 at 2:06 pm said:

Sony,

Thank you for some kind of update regarding 3.0. At least you are not keeping silent about everyones concerns like you normally do.

I have not experienced any technical problems, but I will reiterate what I and many others are saying about the aesthetic changes.

The ticker needs a disable function. This new ticker is just as useless as the previous version. Everything that can be said in that ticker should be placed in the “What’s New” section anyway.

The white/grey friend boxes have got to go. They look tacky, intrusive, and do not fit with the rest of the XMB. If there will eventually be more data in the boxes or that area will be used for a new style of avatar, please impliment the boxes when those features are ready.

Give an option to choose font size AND color that is the best option for the user. That way you can get rid of those ugly friends boxes and users can change the font manually depending on what background they are using for easy readability.

Just add some options to turn on/off some of your new “features” and the majority of users will be happy. Is that really a hard concept to understand?

@172

The problem, for me, is that I don’t primarily use the PS3 for games. The PS3 is my DVD/BD player and hulu/cnn/youtube/AVI box. It, and the Roku Netflix player, are the only things hooked up to my tv. I don’t even get any TV channels. Nada.

So, what is a big issue for me (having video lists vanish if you aren’t dancing on the remote every 2 seconds), is barely any issue for anyone else and not a lot of people are talking about it. So I could have done due diligence, read up on the chances with this firmware, which I actually did, and still not know that they were taking functionality away from me.

So, if Sony wants the PS3 to be the EVERYTHING box, they need to think this stuff through a little more.

+ beesee_ on September 4th, 2009 at 2:06 pm said:

I still find it funny that people are complaining about the font size. If they were always that size I guarantee no one would be complaining that the fonts were too big.

Just because it’s different doesn’t mean it’s worse.

Please turn the 3.00 aesthetic changes into toggles. I’m used to things like the “PlayStation 3″ screen when launching a game and don’t see why I have to adjust because you’re trying to market the Slim.

+ ZekeXenu on September 4th, 2009 at 2:09 pm said:

Thank you for the update.

But I hope that in addition to any game-related issues that FW 3.00 might have caused, Sony is also looking into the aesthetic issues that a lot of users have had (myself included).

In short, I hope Sony gives us OPTIONS on what we see on our XMBs.

+ superstewie on September 4th, 2009 at 2:10 pm said:

smaller footprint.
that one always makes the XMB people cringe, it’s interesting how inconsiderate people are towards software developers.

i hope non of them read this dribble, because things like .mkv aren’t upto the developers they are upto sony paying patent royalties and anti-piracy concerns.
sony should really explain to people why certain things simply can’t be done.

kudos for the PS3, it’s a much better console than all the other ones ;)
not for commercial sony, but the people who actually make the products!

Hey HanSolo,

More info?

Things need to look clean, if you need info dig it. I hate cluttered things. The only things that we should see in there which are actually pertinent is “last time online”, status, name, personal message and the avatar. The rest is stuff for lazy kids.

Putting the whole user history in there will render the user profile half-useless and make the whole thing look even worst than what it already does.

Not to mention that it would make it even slower since it would require additional queries being made to a server that already feels slow for all the additional user data.

What we need and I’ve been waiting for years now among many other details that haven’t been addressed by Sony are more status options, like offline (invisible) and busy.

And those grey boxes must vanish and be erased from peoples memories.

This has nothing to do with firmware v3.00. I’ve had NO issues with it at all. What I am requesting is off topic. What I would like to see in a firmware update is Animated notification messages. They have been so bland that I can’t stand it. At least add the avataars to the person who sent the message or an animated avataar when the message is sent by a friend or from the company: an animated Playstation or PS3 logo when you guys send us messages or when a download is complete or when shutting down for maintenance or update software messages.

Another thing I would like to see is different font styles & colors for fonts. Just in case I have a wallpaper with a white background, I’m able to change the color of my font so can read the selections in the XMB. It’s hard to read white on white. Thanks, guys. despite what some people state, I know that you listen to our requests & I know you guys can only do so much at one time. Again, not all of us are having issues with v3.00.

Keep the gray bars as is. Just allow premium avatars to cover them with unique image themes. Say for example a premium Metal Gear Solid avatar would have Solid Snake as the avatar image and where the gray bars are put an image of Snake hiding inside a cardboard box or heck make the avatars dynamic as well.
