It Only Does Family Togetherness

Peter Dille's Avatar + Posted by Peter Dille on Sep 10, 2009 // Senior Vice President, Marketing & PlayStation Network

Hi everyone,

Thanks for all your amazing feedback on our new “It Only Does Everything” ad campaign. Kevin Butler has been busy pushing the new $299 PS3, not just on our blog but on some of your favorite TV programs, and the reaction has been fantastic.

I mentioned on my initial post that we have a huge campaign designed to show “Everything” the PS3 can do. And since you’re all PlayStation’s biggest fans, we’ll be debuting each one here first. Our next spot features Kevin Butler helping a desperate father connect with his kids by finding the best family-friendly entertainment. The ad is also timed to support the new “Game of the Year” edition of LittleBigPlanet, which shipped this week. The new edition of LBP includes everything from the first game plus more than $30 of bonus content, new levels and free downloadable content packs.

We hope you like this next installment of the campaign as much as you enjoyed the first two spots. Lots more coming, including ads that feature some of our biggest games like UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves and Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time. You’ll be hearing plenty more from me and Kevin Butler very soon…

Enjoy,

Peter Dille

I love my Apple toys (of which I have many) but their ads tend to be too mean spirited to be funny.

These ads are just funny! What’s more, the humour isn’t lost by directly poking fun at anyone.

these ads are some of the best i have seen, Sony you should do this with every big game release ex-gow3, gran turismo, mag would really get them known to casual gamers.

It only does everything except play PS2 games, run linux, and give you firmware updates that are useful.

Look I like this new campaign… not as much as Universe of Entertainment, but a little more than the original PS1 greatest hits campaign (which I also liked). However it is time your firmware division get its butt in gear and truly give us EVERYTHING. Otherwise these commercials are just a flat out lie. Every PS3 owner I hear who is asked about the new Slim and the price tag they quote the commercial “It Does Everything”, but quickly round that statement off with “except play PS2 games and give you useful firmware updates”.

We’ve seen some useful updates over the years, but 3.00 (PS3) and 6.00 (PSP) with some of their precursor updates have been…. leaving something to be desired. This removal of features is simply ruining the systems reputation among the X360 and PS3 supports alike. “Please hang up and try again”
