God of War III E3 2009 Demo Included in God of War Collection

John Hight's Avatar Posted by on Sep 23, 2009 // Director of Product Development, Santa Monica Studio

You have seen the videos and you have seen the screens, soon you will have the chance to play what the lucky hundreds experienced at E3, Comic-Con and PAX. Coming this fall, we are happy to announce to fans that God of War Collection will include the long-awaited God of War III E3 2009 Demo. Each copy of God of War Collection will include a voucher code that can be redeemed through PlayStation Network on the day of purchase. This is your chance to experience God of War III before it hits store shelves March 2010.

Just recently announced on the blog, God of War Collection features remastered versions of both God of War and God of War II on a single Blu-ray Disc at full 1280 x 720 resolution with 2x anti-aliased graphics. Both critically acclaimed games, which were originally developed for the PS2, are running at 60 frames per second for a smooth gameplay experience on your PS3. Additionally, the Blu-ray Disc compilation will bring PSN trophy support to the franchise for the first time. God of War Collection will be available in November. Keep an eye out for video gameplay soon.

Woow, just woow!

Now this is a good reason (IMO) to buy God of War’s collection. :-)
Smart move SCEA, what about when the public demo comes out in the PS Store. Will it be the same demo, or a shorter version?
(I’m definetly getting this, but would like to know).

I am really heading for GoW’s III collectors edition, but I’m afraid of seing this version included; which will bring down my hopes of getting GoW III collectors edition!

The god of war collection comes with Both God of War 1 and God of War 2 on one blu-ray discs, with separate trophies. The DEMO IS FREE, you’re not paying for a demo on the collection, this is just an added side bonus to getting the two games for $39.99 USD.

I should also point out that Chains of Olympus will NOT be coming with the collection. John Hight confirmed this two weeks ago in an interview with IGN.

“IGN: And then the other game is Chains of Olympus, which was fantastic on the PSP. Was there ever any thought about including that on this disc in some fashion?

John Hight: No, that won’t be part of this disc. The goal for this was really, “Let’s bring this experience up to the PS3”. We have all of the original assets, the assets were done at a level that was… You know, a lot of people claimed, “Wow, you know, God of War II looks like it’s PS3…” Well a lot of that has to do with the fact that we built this thing with higher-res assets. And even God of War 1, this stuff holds up because we work at a level higher than our target platform, so we can go back and pretty easily move this stuff up, so… It’s a little different case with the PSP. “

This is basically the Final Fantasy: Advent Children Complete (+ FFXIII Demo) version for the western market, but loads better!

Can’t wait for the Uncharted and Uncharted 2 bundle for the PS4, but that’s like 7 years from now, hehe!

I think all the SMART people are going to pass on the GOW Collection.

If you already own and played GOWI and GOWII on your PS2, It doesnt make sense to spend more money on the same experience, but with glossed over graphics and trophy capability.

Even if the graphics were upgraded to the highest level of HD (1080p), I still wouldnt consider buying this because its the exact same game, experience, and story from the PS2 games.

And honestly, if your over the age of 27, you really dont care if a game has acheivements/trophies or not, you just want to play the freaking game.

And about that demo; I seen that demo at least 5,000 times since E3 2009. I never want to see it again- EVER. And I hope that demo section is not included in the final game. Not that its a bad demo, im just tired of looking at it. 90% of us are just patiently waiting for March 2010- screw the demo.

Now if you never played ANY GOW games, then buying this Collection would be a good way to get caught up with the series, but I just got 1 question: What the hell have you been doing for the last 6 years ?

Sony, please take note of the excitment and hype for the God of War compilation. Y’all should do the same thing with The Last Guardian. Put Ico and Shawdow of the Colossus on Blu-Ray, remastered graphics and trophy support, and a demo for The Last Guardian. Myself with a whole lot of people, would greatly appreciate this and totally eat it up! Please SONY!!!!

People like to constantly talk crap about Sony doing things wrong but this is being handled PERFECTLY. Congratulations on executing a fantastic idea.

Why can’t the demo be on the disc? Come on, where is the power of the blu-ray?

I was already sold on the collection then you sweetened the deal. Awesome.

+ ynp7 on September 24th, 2009 at 1:51 am said:

Why not just put it on the disc? If you’re trying to take the piss out of people who buy used or rent I’m not sure a demo is the best vehicle for doing that.

+ muzzar69 on September 24th, 2009 at 3:21 am said:

will this be available on the PSN store?
because, as usual sony is not releasing this outside the US this year.
as usual we get the finger and are forced to wait weeks if not months after the holy US, even though we pay double if not more for games, consoles and such.
have ps3s been released outside the US yet?
just wondering, may be i got my 3 under coincidence?

I probably have no idea what awaits me…

OH YEAH! Looks like they kept the gore! Hopefully, they added more too. Makes me sad when game developers decide to cut back on the gore just to lower the age rating.

+ CheapestGamer on September 26th, 2009 at 12:49 am said:

Sony had better put up a demo on the PSN store, since there’s no way in friggin’ hell I’m paying $30 plus just to play the frickin’ demo for God Of War III.

If they do expect you to buy the damned God Of War collection just to get the demo, then I hope everybody buys it used from Gamestop and beats it and the demo within 7 days and then returns it. In that way neither Sony nor Gamestop sees any money from us.

This collection is a fantastic idea, and I will happily pick it up.

However… there really is NO excuse for not including the GoW III E3 2009 Demo ON the BD disc along with the two games.

It cannot be due to space concerns, as a single BD-ROM can currently hold 50 GB.

It also cannot be because the demo “is not yet finished” or any other excuse, considering this version of the GoW III demo has been completed and locked-in-place since May 2009.

There simply is no reason the demo should have to be a download when a perfectly good BD-ROM will exist to contain it.

If you folks really want to make the inclusion of this demo the “special experience” you claim it will be, then please include it ON the BD-ROM.

Thank you.

I think not including the demo on the disc is an EXTREMELY bad idea & really no excuse for! At the moment I currently have no high speed internet and no access to it “what can I say times are hard”, so not including it on the disc is alienating a sub group of your customers. It goes without saying that this is still a day 1 purchase even though I own both originals…yet very disappointing about the demo That I can’t play!

As for ICO and shadow of colossus? i’ll buy them for the first time if re-made, they looked good. deff gonna buy the remakes of gow. I guess it’s been proven that when the voices of the fans are loud enough, we will be heard!
Btw, i’m one of those fans that’s been waiting for years on a legitimate announcement of the re-make of final fantasy VII

I would love to see an Ico & Shadow combo…as for a Metal Gear Solid pack my dream would be MGS: Twin Snakes, MGS: Sons of Liberty & MGS: Snake Eater given the sweet treatment.
