Hi Everyone,
PSP update (v6.10) will be available soon. This is a big update for us in preparation for the launch of PSPgo. New PSPgo owners should make sure to download the update to ensure full compatibility with MediaGo and with all PSP titles. Here are some of the key features we’ll be introducing:
SensMe
SensMe channels is a new music application for PSP that uses Sony’s proprietary 12 Tone Analysis technology to evaluate music tracks that have been imported from Media Go application on your PC to your PSP. The application automatically categorizes the tracks into 12 channels such as “Relax” or “Newly Added”. Check out the walk-thru demo to see how it works.
Media Go Enhancements
In addition, PlayStation Store for the PSP and PSPgo via Media Go (v1.2) will be updated with a new look on Thursday, October 1. To access PlayStation Store, you need to download Media Go (or update Media Go if you already have it). Media Go is a free PC software application that allows you to easily organize and transfer music, photos and videos between your PC and PSP. It also allows you to access PlayStation Store and to purchase, backup and restore PSP games. Of course, you can always access PlayStation Store directly on the PSP and PSPgo by connecting to a wireless hot spot and simply logging in with your PlayStation Network ID. But for those of you who prefer to use a PC, you will see that downloading games, movies and TV shows for your PSP is easier than ever with the new PlayStation Store on Media Go. With this update, you’ll be able to export playlists onto the PSP. Go to us.playstation.com/psn/mediago to download Media Go and for more details.
Tethering (PSPgo only)
Another new feature is the ability to use a Bluetooth mobile device, such as a mobile phone, as a modem to connect your PSP system to the internet. This means that when you’re not located close to a wifi spot you have another way to get on the internet via a bluetooth mobile device.

Eric Lempel doesn’t care about 1000 people.
I mean, seriously, I want to upgrade, but as a very supportive early adopter I have 30+ UMD titles. While a conversion program would be nice, I’d just as soon take another new model with UMD….
I really feel like I have no choice but to hope the Go fails… and that’s not good for anyone. No sales, no new PSP games….

Question.
The SensMe functions on my PSP 1000 as advertised…and of course all my media in on a stick. I would ask that since SONY shortend the load times for PS3 game but foregoing the splash screen that you do the same for SensME and get rid of the load screen/jingle. Overall though a nice addition to a PSP 1000.
SO WHY
on the PSPgo is the SensME function limited on onboard memory only…You advertised an expandable PSPgo but this brand new function can’t allow the music to be on Mem Stick?
Please explain the technological hurdle here.

Humm doesn’t tethering need to be allowed on the phone. For example iPhone uses won’t be able to tether unless the crap arse service provider such as AT&T allows tethering…I hope I stand corrected.

Why can’t we have a cool feature like SensMe on the PS3? Even without the features I LOVE the look.

I feel for the MAC heads out there that want MediaGo, but my experience with v1.1a is frustrating. Occasionally one of my vodcast feeds serves up a file that MediaGo chokes on. It doesn’t just skip the file, but hangs. Then when I shut it down and re-start I get told that it had a problem with the file so moved it to “Other files”, then promptly re-downloads the same file and chokes again. First of all, if it runs across a problematic file it shouldn’t hang the program, rather it should move it to “Other files” immediately and get on with the rest of the queue. Second, if it had a problem with a vodcast item it should remember and not bother to re-download it w/o user interaction.
Worse yet, there doesn’t seem to be any sort of error feedback or support forum. There is a “Feedback”, but it is only for feature requests.
Buggy program with [DELETED] support.

You got to spend money to make money champ.

So if you don’t use this media go stuff, or have an older PSP, is this update completely redundant?

This would be great for the Ps3! Couldnt the ps3 sort all my music in to categories?
And another psp feature: SKYPE! I want to video call my friends from my living room! Would be so great!

Still no Mac support for Media Go after all this time.
Nice to se Sony still screwing some of their customers. If Sony dosnt want Mac people as customers they should print that on the box, “We don’t want you Mac people as customers, so stay away from Sony products!”.

WOW!!! I see that I’m not the only one that want’s this Mac compatible!! The majority of the posts are asking for that!!! I hope your listening Sony. I just read about someone complaining about having to install quicktime (which is made by Apple) in order to run the Media Go. If that is true it’s sooo ironically funny!! I’m sure it must be coming, because the Sony eReader is finally compatible with my Mac and i’ll be buying one soon because of it.

That new MP3 stuff looks amazing! I always wondered why it looks so outdated. Now it looks really modern.
When is this going to happen on PS3???

One thing that really needs to be added in one of these updates is the ability to sort games by category (PSP/PS1) like the PS3 can.

The senseme application keeps on crashing, I keep on trying to make a favorites message but it’s crashed 3 times now, I was excited about the application. I end up having to take the battery out, which is scary considering I’m thinking of upgrading to a pspgo, and you can’t remove the battery on that thing, I hope this doesn’t give new buyers a bad impression of your console/brand, not being able to get out of a frozen screen.

I only really use Media Go for the PC PSN Store, so I’m not getting much use for this. Apparently I HAVE to use Media Go for this “mood” thing to work?
SensMe looks great, but I’m more optimistic about the whole optional downloadable aspect. Can we get more “apps” like this? A PDA-ish app would be worth paying for.

why don’t you guys support other OS? other than windows i mean.

I try to say it polite…Umm, is this a joke? I beleive it must be a joke, I cant imagine anybody would want such stupid and useless application like senseMe, I hope there will be an option to not install it on psp…

I’m not sure if MediaGo can/will get ported outside Windows. Check the required specs and you will see .NET 2.0 is required. For those of you who are unfamiliar with what that is, essentially it is Microsoft’s VisualBasic “replacement”. .NET is (and will be for the foreseeable future) MicroShaft exclusive. I think we need to find some coders to reverse-engineer SensMe and the game/saves parsing and write a MediaGo clone using cross-platform practices in something like C or C++ (or even Pascal).

KSPRAYDAD | October 1st, 2009 at 6:37 am
@176…yes it is completely optional. Happy now?
I think it is a nice little addition for when you are using your PSP as a music player.
Oh and SONY…I’m still rocking on an Atari 520ST…can you make some software for me too?
Dear Mac people…Bootcamp is your friend…there IS a reason Apple recognized the vast majority of the world doesn’t use their OS.
188
KINGV84 | October 1st, 2009 at 6:41 am
@187, yeah bootcamp is an option, but Native Mac OS Support is a whole lot better than having to run Windows. It is the reason people go Apple, its for the Mac OS and not to run Windows. Thanks.
Sony, Mac Version please.
189
KINGV84 | October 1st, 2009 at 6:43 am
Dear 187,
Yes people with Intel Macs can run Windows using Bootcamp, but people with PowerPC Macs can not. And besides, Mac users want native software and not run Windows. Reason they choice to go Mac is for Mac OS X and not Windows. Thanks.
Sony, Mac Version please.

SteveLV702 | October 1st, 2009 at 8:27 am
When I go to download off the site its showing as 6.10 but when I put it on my memory card and go to run it it comes up as “PSP Update ver 6.00″ when I try to run it says I already have it..
192
crusher915 | October 1st, 2009 at 8:33 am
1 thing you have to add to this (if possible) is voice recognition for mp3/mp4.
why? you may ask, so you don´t have to take it out of your pocket every time you want to switch to the next song.
And i hope you will be adding Sony Ericsson’s motion activated headset for this also

killer_boots | October 1st, 2009 at 8:43 am
These features are nice and all, but I have no need for any of them. What I do have need for is the ability to either a) transfer purchases from my old account to my new one or b) be able to use multiple accounts at the same time on my PSP like I can on my PS3 so that I can use my purchases from my old account AND my new account.
Seriously, the go is in for some serious trouble if you guys don’t fix your account system, considering that the go is entirely dependent on it. Hopefully, when millions of people start complaining about it in a week or two, you will finally listen to me.
