Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time First Review, Demos and New Videos

Cristian Cardona's Avatar Posted by on Oct 20, 2009 // Associate Product Marketing Manager, Software Marketing

As many of you know, things are heating up here as we’re approaching the launch of Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time for PS3 next week! Today IGN ran the first review of Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time and you can check it out here.

Also to celebrate the launch, you’ve been invited to Insomniac Games’ Community Day as well as the PlayStation Home space for Ratchet & Clank. We’ve even dropped the price of Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty!

And the hits keep coming, as I’m happy to announce today that this Thursday on the PlayStation Store, you’ll be able to download the first of TWO Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time demos and we’re inviting you to check out the Clank Demo.

In this demo, you’ll take get to take control of Clank as he explores the Great Clock learning more about his past and his new time-based abilities that you’ll need to utilize to solve puzzles and defeat some of Dr. Nefarious’ minions. This is some brand new gameplay that Insomniac Games is introducing to the series and we all hope you enjoy it!

Details on the second demo, the Ratchet Demo, will be coming in the next few days, so keep an eye out! In the meantime, check out these sweet videos showing off some of Ratchet’s new arsenal and giving you more information about the Constructo line of weapons!

And this week, Insomniac Games Creative Director Brian Allgeier will be stopping by PlayStation.Blog for a PlayStation Eye Chat. So make sure to ask your questions in the comments section!

Did you guys choose a more bada** image for Ratchet?
He always looks mad…
(probably because clank is gone)

Is the game rendered in 1080p?

+ mywhitenoise on October 20th, 2009 at 3:19 pm said:

Buying it day 1.

I know you guys have said numerous times that trophies are out of the question for Tools of Destruction, but PLEASE consider it! PLEASE!

9,0 by IGN! NICE WORK!

Ratchet Demo should of been first :(
The Clank section’s are the weakest part of R&C for me.

Don\’t knock it \’till you try it! Insomniac\’s paid close attention to feedback and so far the reception has been very positive to the new Clank stuff!

I’m interested in getting this game but I’ve never played any of the earlier Ratchets. If I just pick up Tools Of Destruction first will I understand the story or should I play the earlier gams too?

You don\’t need to have the other titles, but we\’d like you to get them ;-)

We\’d definitely recommend ToD and Quest for Booty to get the full picture, but in either case you\’ll get the story.

I can’t wait, I already have this pre-ordered, looks like I’ll be playing Uncharted 2 until then.

How come you guys haven’t done online multiplayer? I remember back then Rachet & Clank: Up your arsenal had it and it was fun!

+ Lemondish on October 20th, 2009 at 4:14 pm said:

Looks like time’s runnin out (pun intended) for me to beat ToD and Quest for Booty before this gobbles me up.

+ plaztiksyke on October 20th, 2009 at 4:15 pm said:

If you’d love for us to try the two previous PS3 games, please add trophies to them. It is seriously the only thing that kept me from picking up Tools of Destruction last week when I was out to pick up Afrika and Brutal Legend.

+ Lemondish on October 20th, 2009 at 4:17 pm said:

Sorry for a second post, just wondering if anybody can point out where I can offer suggestions for blog features or stories?

Also, I totally agree with #61. Trophy support for the original Tools and Quest would be really nice, though I’m much less devoted to my player level compared to others ;)

+ wolfzero1 on October 20th, 2009 at 4:17 pm said:

definitely getting this next week, can’t wait to see what kind of trophy’s you come up with

I love this game franchise can’t wait.

Also, just wondering…
when it HOME going to be fixed?

I am STILL unable to log on since the update!
It freezes the entire PS3 every time I try to log onto home.
Freezes during initialization process…

Please reply to this so I can know what is going on.

And…I don’t care if this is the incorrect place to ask…if the blog was designed better with places to ask questions, then I would post there.
Since I cannot…please give me an answer.
I have invested a lot of time an money into Home and I find it unfair that I should be afraid to update.

We have received reports from users regarding difficulties logging into PlayStation Home. We want to assure you that our development team is working diligently to address these issues, and we thank you for your patience and understanding in the meantime. There are short term workarounds that you may employ to gain access to the service, which we have detailed in this forums post: http://tinyurl.com/yh99myd

This game looks AMAZING!!! I can’t wait! I’m out of town right now, but when I get back on the 28th, I’m going straight from the airport to get this and Uncharted 2. Good times ahead!!!

+ FunkyTable on October 20th, 2009 at 7:35 pm said:

Just read the ign review, the end said graphics were not as mind boggling as the photo realistic Uncharted 2. PLEEEEEEASE don’t listen to them. I see photo realistic art every single day. Why create a world that looks exactly like ours when you can create whatever you want? It’s a goofy cartoony world that is unique not realistic movements, they are just copying real life.

That’s not to dog the style of Uncharted 2 too much, it’s kind of an apples/oranges thing. And then it comes down to preference, and I have always prefered the cartoony look of R&C.

But yeah, I’ll still get Resistance.

Um….it isn’t sexist … its funny. Both the man AND the woman come off as idiots. Did you complain that the $299 ad ONLY had a male blogger looking like a jerk? Gaming is supposed to be FUN.

That animation in the constructo trailer was great. It reminded me so much of Ren and Stimpy. It wasn’t made by John Kricfalusi was it?

There are so many games coming out on the 27th… but I’m a fan of this series, eventhough I haven’t played them all, hell I haven’t even beat one (due to my PS2 breaking down twice and having to play it on someone else’s system) but this it going to be a buy for me. Gotta line Insomniac’s pockets so we can get a stellar Resistance 3, right?!

Seriously though, I’m having trouble getting through Demon’s Souls and Uncharted 2, let alone when I go to buy Brutal Legend and Borderlands tomorrow.. then Ratchet & Clank, Tekken 6, DJ Hero and Fairytale Fights all in one week. Not that I’ll be dropping the $120 on DJ Hero but it looks pretty cool. Screw Activision and, more specifically, Bobby Kotick.

+ MidnightBlues on October 20th, 2009 at 9:16 pm said:

My PS3 has broken down due to faulty hardware. My Blu-ray drive has stopped working and while updating the firmware it now freezes halfway through every time in an endless loop…. restarts and freeze. The error message says contact technical support but technical support only tells me that I have to pay $150 to get it fixed. Only a few monthes out of warrenty.

I hope that the ps3 slim will drop in price now that the 120GB is coming out and hopefully you wont just charge more than $300 for the 120GB. If that happens and there is no price drop I am done with sony and will not buy another ps3 now or ever. I am not going to waste more of my money. I miss being able to enjoy games at my own conveniance but now that has been taken from and its not worth $300 just to maintain that. I think sony should take care of me, take my ps3 plus $100 and send me a new freaking one… that will not lose you revenue and you can actually make more money as I will start buying games again.

+ ThreeLeggedFreak on October 20th, 2009 at 9:17 pm said:

This game should’ve definitely added multiplayer, it would’ve been fun.

+ DeuceCam on October 20th, 2009 at 9:53 pm said:

Boo on the 720p. The system has been out for 3 years now and there’s still only a handful of full-length games available that are rendered in 1080p. All the exclusives should be in 1080p. This isn’t too much to ask for considering it was one of the major selling points for the system when it first came out.

+ Anti-Dentite on October 20th, 2009 at 10:52 pm said:

This series is stale as day old bread. Ditch this crap and Resistance and make something worth my $60 Insomniac.
