It Only Does Great Games

Peter Dille's Avatar Posted by on Oct 23, 2009 // Senior Vice President, Marketing & PlayStation Network

In just the few weeks since my last post, we’ve launched the amazing UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves, we’ve unveiled the new 250GB PlayStation 3 and we’ve welcomed nearly half a million new PS3 owners into our PlayStation family. There is no doubt it has been a busy and exciting few weeks here; and as promised, PlayStation 3’s momentum just keeps building.

Since its introduction in 2002, the Ratchet & Clank franchise has become wildly popular, selling more than 16 million units worldwide and finding a permanent home on the “top ten favorites” lists of gamers everywhere. The latest and much anticipated installment, Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time, promises to deliver more of the signature humor and mind blowing weapons fans have come to expect while exploring the story behind Ratchet and Clank’s past and the key to their future.

While the game won’t be in stores until next Tuesday, critics are already starting to pour on the praise, touting that the latest Ratchet & Clank adventure looks like the “the best yet.” And just in time for its release, Kevin Butler is back to spotlight this incredible new addition to the Ratchet & Clank series.

In this commercial, Kevin serves as “Chief Weaponologist,” fielding a “Dear PlayStation” request from a mystery man working with an unidentified organization hoping to acquire the Ratchet & Clank weapons arsenal. The exchange leaves even the typically sharp-witted Kevin at a loss for words:

No question, we’ve got an unparalleled gaming line-up this year that includes “Only on PlayStation” experiences from our first party studios and blockbuster releases from our publishing partners. Never has there been a more rewarding time to be a PS3 owner!

And just to prove our point, here’s another “Dear PlayStation” commercial that will debut later this month that showcases a ton of great PS3 content with a crescendo that only Kevin Butler would dream up.

And for those of you who missed the commercial where Kevin commiserates with a consumer about getting her boyfriend to tap into all the great benefits of connecting to the PlayStation Network, make sure to catch it on TV again starting next week.

The Mon-Tage commercial is good but what is up w/ showing the same 2-3 games over and over? Madden?? Beatles Rock Band? You showed Gran Turismo but the only GT available on the PS3 is a 2 year old glorified DEMO! I know you’re showing big names on there but my goodness, how can you not show LBP, Ratchet & Clank and MGS4 in that montage?? That montage itself was pretty lame.

Wow these commercials keep getting better and better! I hope you continue making them throughout the next several months… it’s great to have a bunch of commercials following the same theme.

I think the Ratchet one could use a bit more but it’s still good.

Love the montage…but didn’t notice any Ratchet or Demon’s Souls in the mon tauge. Also nice product placement with the VAIO.

Now start airing these like crazy. I was watching always sunny last night and saw like 4 360 commercials but not a freakin PS3 ad. GET MOVING

also have an awesome weekend

Love these commercials! They keep getting better and better. I love the end of the second one with the guitar hero outfit and confetti! Hilarious! I just hope that these ads get aired on enough channels and are repeated so people get the message.

Dam this is good, the advertising team stepped up big time.

+ REZBLUE on October 23rd, 2009 at 8:34 pm said:

Someone please answer this. The Montage video has been playing on TV for weeks now. Why is everybody pretending its brand new?

+ YeWest_is_da_man on October 23rd, 2009 at 8:36 pm said:

I think a great commercial, although it’s way too late, would be one for Demon’s Souls. This game really is a hidden gem but is a great game- my friend’s friend has a ps3 and I told him to get Demon’s Souls… it’s sold out EVERYWHERE and every time they get them in they sell out before he can get them… that’s a testament to how great it is. It’d be pretty funny to have seen him all decked out in a knight’s outfit wailing away with a massive sword or something, getting into the epic Demon Boss battles… oh well. These are just as great, and just as funny, keep up the great work guys!

The same day as this post I bought a used PS3 and I love it. There are now so many very good independent games, as well as first-party games for the PS3. I have fallen in love with the demo download service. It only does everything. Amazing system, and well worth its weight in gold (literally). Thank you for all the hard work, Sony and Game Devs. :)

Anyway, can’t wait to play R&C: ACIT! :D

Can we get a response from Sony on 60GB fan noise problems since the 3.00 firmware? This thing is constantly louder than a jet engine made out of 360s when prior to the 3.00 update it only got this loud when it was 100 degrees up in here.

+ ynp7 on October 25th, 2009 at 4:48 am said:

Can you guys get the firmware team to test on 60GB units? The fans are all running at high speeds since 3.00 even when idle at the XMB. If the system is overheating you need to replace the hardware for free since it’s clearly defective, otherwise you need to fix whatever you broke in the update.
