Hello again!

Joel DeYoung from Hothead Games here. At long last, we’re thrilled to be able to tell the PlayStation community that Braid will officially be making its way to the PlayStation Network on November 12 for $14.99. The gang here at Hothead has been working hard to bring this amazing game to you as soon as possible.

Along with today’s announcement, we thought you’d enjoy taking a peek at the Braid trailer and a few screens of the gameplay experience. Check ‘em out below:

Stay tuned next week to catch an in-depth look at bringing Braid to PSN – It’s been a real pleasure working with Jonathan Blow and Sony on this project and I’m looking forward to sharing more details of that effort with everyone here. See you soon.

  • It’s great to hear the Braid is on its way to PSN soon. Though I haven’t played this game yet, I was impressed by it when my brother played the 360 demo about a year or so ago. Are there any plans for a PSP version of Braid or is it strictly for the PS3?

  • There may be improvements, i think that the 360 had native rendering 720p and this release does 1080p native, and maybe there are some unannounced extras..

Like the “level editor – option to import mods, like UT” given the PSN openness (here hoping)

Anyway i must mention that we are talking with a brave developer (Hothead Games) that opted to port this game to Mac and PS3, the original dev was Number None, Inc. (360, windows)

So thank you guys (Hothead Games)for betting on us, just show us a little love..

  • You what’s funny about all these people complaining about the $15 price point? Its that, even if this game was released a year ago, it would still costs $15 today. People here seem to think that downloaded games decrease in value as time goes by. It doesn’t work that way, this isn’t some old game taking up space on a shelf at some retailer.

That is why game prices go down, because they are old games that are taking up shelf space for newer ones coming out. They need to get rid of those in order to make room. When you have something that is downloaded, it not taking up space from a newer game. That’s why they don’t receive price drops. The only time that they do is when either the game sells poorly or its part of some special promotion.

If you are getting so huffy over Braid’s price, why would you continue to pay $10 for a game like Everyday Shooter when that was released over a year ago? Besides, its not like the developers are giving any special treatment to a single platform since Braid costs the exact same amount on the PS3 as it does on the 360.”

  • I could have not said this better myself. The pc demo really sold me on the game. I almost bought it during the $5 Steam sale and then I found out that it was coming to the ps3. I will gladly pay $15 for this game. Keep in mind i could have bought it $10 less on pc a few months ago.

  • Hi,

I’m really happy to see that Braid is finally coming out on the PSN. Will the game be available in Japan? If not, will it be available for purchase on Amazon.com?

    Thanks in advance,
    Shibataro

    • Unfortunately it will not be available in Japan since Sony Japan restricts PSN sales there to Japanese publishers. It will be available in the rest of Asia and Europe though.

  • Why $14.99 when it’s so cheap on Steam? Not to mention, it’s over a year old by now. I’ll probably still buy it but I’m not liking that $15 price tag. And with Modern Warfare 2 releasing next week, it’ll be even tougher to sell this on PSN.

  • Nice to see this game make it over the Playstation Network. Too bad its priced at $15 though. I think $10 would be the sweet the sweet spot.

  • @ 106, it is 14.99 on steam, I would know since I bought it though steam. There was a steam sale for about a week if that is what you are referring to, but that hardly counts as the steam price.

Personally I will be buying this game, reason being is because this game happens to be one of my favorite games of all time, it is a truly beautiful game and is the prime example in the whole game industry that video games can be art. $15 for that is nothing to be bothered over in my opinion.

  • JOEL

Is there any hope that this game might see the light of day on the PSP?

  • @88 libregkd
And you think games don’t take up space on servers? Servers do not have infinite data storage space you know.

  • This is a great game, sadly I already played it for PC and won’t be getting it again (although trophies would be neat). I do agree than $9.99 woulda been nice as its 1 1/2 years old and a port with nothing new, but nonetheless, this is a great game I would recommend to anyone.

  • Gotta have a demo before committing to this – just too strange to grasp without trying

  • $15 is a rip, I would rather get Fat Princess, or FF:CC and overlook this game

    @Eric2929
If you would pay $60 for this revamped supermario game, then you should have to pay 4x the price (b4 price drop) for every other game out there. Besides best game ever made so far is Uncharted 2

    @BlooodyCow
You can call “BrianMcGuinness” a f***ing inbred loser for his two word insult being overused, he’s the kind of guy whose brain hasn’t quite fully devloped (and probably never will)

  • Man tough times for me. So many great PSN games out there. I really want to pick this up. I know it will be mine soon. Thank you Hothead games for bringing this over.

  • I’m usually not a big of a whiner when it comes to the price of PSN games, especially not when it comes to the US version. I live in Europe and download many PSN games (which haven’t released in Europe yet) from the US store. Still, I complaind to John Diamonon from Capcom about the Flock tag, which was 15USD / Euro from the start as well. I believe smaller type of PSN games without any platinum trophy should be 9,99USD / Euro and less. From 15USD / Euro on, full PSN games, as Trine and Wipeout HD are and have Platinum.

Plus Braid is an year old port game which most likely is cheaper on XBLA now. Correct me if I’m wrong please.

I’m not gonna say I won’t buy it, I’ll wait for reviews to come and I hope you’ll release a demo on the US store so to check it out. Though with a price tag of 9,99USD and lower it would have been an instant buy for me.

Its not only a matter of money, but also a matter of principles ;)

  • Ow I really appreciate you release a great game on the PSN, don’t wanted to sound too ungrateful :-D

  • I appreciate you bringing us Braid, and I do have interest in the game, but, since it is over a year old and it has no improvements, I believe it needs a price adjustment to $9.95.

If you want to charge $15 for such a short, and now old game, you really need to spice it up more. Give it a 5.1 DTS soundtrack, or at least give it a lossless PCM soundtrack along with our 1080p native graphics. That would make it more tempting to buy at such a steep price tag.

Please, make it worthwhile, or I wont be buying this. Drop the price tag or add more/better content.

  • When Trine came out for $20, people said it should be $15. When Braid comes out for $15, people say it should be $10. It makes me wonder…if an excellent 5 dollar game came out, would people demand it for free?

  • Thanks Joel Deyoung,
Thanks for the supporting the ps3. I hope I have the money to buy this =). As for the psp idea, It sounds good on paper but your core audience are on the consoles, it most likely won’t be a good investment. Although I’m sure it would make a lot of hardcore psp goers go crazy if you announced it.

  • When you say Sony Japan restricts psn sales to japanese publishers, can you elaborate? Why =(

  • Thanks for bringing this game over. To be honest, with games like Flower and Flo, games like Braid fit the PS3 well, vs the Space Marine infested 360, heheh. I’m glad more folks get to play this game, because I played it on the 360 and it was great.

  • Well, I’ve spoken to 4 different Xbox 360 owners, each who’ve played Braid and they convinced me to get Braid and also told me that its more than worth the 15USD.

In that case, change my doubtful instant buy to 1st day buy :-)

  • “Unfortunately it will not be available in Japan since Sony Japan restricts PSN sales there to Japanese publishers. It will be available in the rest of Asia and Europe though.”

Then get Sony to publish it. North American devs have not had this issue in the past. You’re just too lazy to get this going. Its ridiculous comments and stunts like the pricing of Braid that will prevent me ever supporting this innovative title.

  • Sweeet, ever since I first saw Braid I thought it looked like a blast. Loved everything I saw about it and will gladly be buying this.

TBH honest though…I really wish it was dropping today.

    =P

  • I actually never heard of this game before this new. But after reading all the insanly good comments all over the internet about this, I will defenitly buy this, maybe not day one but in the first week.

    Thanks for supporting PS3.

  • Braid is a good game. I had fun with it on PC.

    @50 Link01
I too am more excited for Castle Crashers. I think Braid for 11.99 would be a good price.

  • If I had the choice, I would rather get 40000 X 10$ than 20000 X 15$.

  • Ah, one of the first games to bring about our current wave of inflation for little downloadable games. $10 is my ceiling for downloadable games- let the fanboys burn their money as though we’re in a booming economy… many of us with bills to pay and mouths to feed are going to have to pass. I can only hope someday the idiots who do the pricing will understand.

  • Joel… any chance of a demo?

  • Wow a xbox hand me down? No thanks!

  • Oh i wanted to add, I will buy this at 15 dollars day one and NOT complain.I also forgot to thank Hothead games Crew. That’s the last of my two cents i promise

  • Briad is truly one of the best games I’ve EVER played. However, over a year after its initial release and they are charging $15 again? This after Jonathon Blow said he WANTED to release it $10 but Microsoft wouldn’t allow it? So does this mean Sony won’t allow it this time? Braid is incredible, but send a message, wait for a price drop.

  • @BlooodyCow
Obviously there isn’t unlimited server space. But that actaully has no affect on a games price like how a retailer’s limited space.

  • Let’s say game X was released in stores at $60. About a year down the line, a brand new game Y is released. Now the store still has some copies of game X, but they are taking up space on shelf where game Y could be. In, order to get money back on the stuff they bought, they lower game X’s price so it’d make room for the brand new game.

Now let’s see what would happen if this was a digital storefront. Game X is released for $60 dollars. About a year down the line brand new game Y is released. In this case, game X would not be taking up “shelf” space that could be given to game Y. Not only that, but when it comes to digital distribution, you don’t have a retailer buying stock to sell, instead you are just buying server space. Not only that but if you simply want to stop selling a game, you simply need to take it off the servers. And not worry about having a sale to get rid of stock.

That’s not to say price drops and sales are nonexistent on digital items. But they are alot more rare because of the reasons I just stated. Only time a price drop will usually occur is if sales are sluggish/some sort of special promotion is going on.

  • Come on guys, they don’t make a lot of money anyway from these downloadable games. You guys always complain about price, but never want to foot the bill to enjoy anything.

There’s a reason why this game garnered the praise from XBLA and it most likely will be worth the $15.

I’d rather pay $15 for a good gaming experience than $5 for a crappy one.

  • Joel: Can you POSSIBLY be serious?!? Didn’t you make your initial investment back along with a nice return from Microsoft and their exclusivity money?? WE ARE IN A [DELETED] RECESSION!!! To all the people talking [DELETED] about the price complaints: I make $9.50 an hour working 40+ hours a week, just like many others here, and after our BILLS we CANNOT afford an extra $5-$10 more than this game SHOULD be! IT IS NEARLY 2 YEARS OLD!!! I will not even CONSIDER buying this even after a price-drop SIMPLY because of your lack of respect for the consumers. Oh, and to “Mister1337”: go [DELETED] yourself. We’re sick of your [DELETED]. DISSIDIA SUCKS!!! BUY IT ON A [DELETED] UMD IF YOU CARE SO [DELETED] MUCH. Otherwise START E-MAILING SQUARE ENIX ONCE FOR EVERY BLOG POST AND LEAVE US THE [DELETED] ALONE!!!!

  • I would have bought this game a year ago, unfortunately i already played this on my friends Xbox (a year ago) at no cost to me.

Maybe next time you wont screw PS3 users and sell us out. You could have had my money then, but chose not to, i’m sure microsoft took care of you though.

    Sorry, but NO SALE!!

  • THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU FOR ALLOWING US TO EXPERIENCE THIS “MASTERPIECE”.

Upon seeing the original trailer for the 360, I was extremely jealous that they have an excellent game in their hands. I originally intended to get it for the PC but alas news came forth that the PS3 will be having a ported version.

A DEFINITE PURCHASE the day it’s released on the PSN.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, Hothead games for making this happen.
