Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Launch Event in PlayStation Home

Locust_Star's Avatar + Posted by Locust_Star on Nov 10, 2009 // PlayStation Home Community Manager

If you are like us, you’ve marked your calendars and informed all and sundry that, come November 10, you will be shirking your day-to-day responsibilities in favor of tossing flashbangs and dropping brass on any and all opponents in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Forget work, school, and jury duty – this Tuesday it’s all about who can get the most Killstreaks as we embark on a shoot-or-be-shot journey through the war torn landscapes of one of the most highly-anticipated titles of the year.

For those of you who are saving the single-player campaign for a later time and instead opting to spend D-Day knee-deep in some of the most ridiculously addictive multiplayer modes you’ll find in any FPS around, there’s no better place to find a battle than in PlayStation Home. Why? First and foremost, PlayStation Home allows you to easily find other CoD:MW2 fans and seamlessly launch into the various multiplayer match types including Free-For-All, Search & Destroy, Domination, Team Deathmatch and the new Demolition and Capture The Flag modes. But to top it off we’re also offering participants in our launch day event a unique opportunity to score some free prizes just for coming out and playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 – namely, the Modern Warfare 2 Veteran ARTFX statue (pictured below).

This 1/6-scale (12” tall) statue depicts Cpt. “Soap” MacTavish of Task Force 141, equipped with custom snow camouflage and weaponry, as seen in the “Cliffhanger” mission from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. 10 of these special prizes will be awarded at random to users that attend the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 “Featured Game” event tonight, Tuesday, November 10 between the hours of 6:00pm and 10:00pm PT (9:00pm and 1:00am EST). If you’re a die-hard Call of Duty fan this is THE launch day event to attend. More info on how to participate is below.

MW2

The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 event marks the beginning of a new type of regularly occurring event in PlayStation Home – the “Featured Game” party. Every day one of the latest and greatest PlayStation 3 games (that have an online multiplayer component, of course) will be showcased in PlayStation Home. Official host accounts (manned by the Home Community Management team, the Home Community Volunteer team, and – when available – game developers and other celebrity players) will gather in Central Plaza between the hours of 6:00pm and 10:00pm PT (9:00pm and 1:00am EST). A list of host accounts will be placed on the screens at the Listen@Home kiosk in Central Plaza as well as on the official PlayStation Home Clubs and Events forum.

If you have the Featured Game and want to join in on the fun, just add one of these accounts and then use the “Go To” feature to travel to official “instances” of Central Plaza where the event is taking place (you can find the “Go To” option in your Menu Pad by going to your Friends List and then selecting the name of the host account). Once at the event, insert the Featured Game into your PlayStation 3 and either set up your own game launching session or join someone else’s (just look for the game title being broadcast above another player’s avatar).

Not only are the Featured Game parties fun events that anyone can join, they also offer opportunities to win awesome prizes and, most importantly, meet new people to game with. We couldn’t be more stoked to kick off this new community program with a title like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Expect to see all of us in Central Plaza right at 6:00pm PT on Tuesday, November 10th. And we’ll expect to see you there as well.

Why would I use Home when I could actually play the game? Enjoy endlessly doing the running man all night.

The entire purpose of the event is to play the game. In fact, that is all that we will be doing. As stated in the post, PlayStation Home allows users to seamlessly launch into their favorite PS3 titles and then return to Home.

I don’t know if I’d be able to pull myself away from the game just for this…

Really, though, I can launch right into online match types? This I will have to try out.

It’s about time Sony mentions this game it was beginning to sound like a 360 exclusive. I would much rather have cross game voice chat to arrange games with friends but oh well.

That been said Bad Company 2 looks so good I think I’ll just hold off and play more Demon’s Souls and Uncharted until then. Speaking of DS it was amazing for the 45 hours I played it until game+ now wtffff it’s like 10x harder so overkill.

Home support ….sweet! Now if only we could get some sort of reward system or collectable going on in HOME like find someone in home with zero friends on there friends list and convince them to add you or do the running man for 24 hrs straight make it happen !

While Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 does not currently support rewards in PlayStation Home in the way that you reference in your message, many other titles do unlock content in-world. Prime examples of this are the Batman Arkham Asylum BatCave Outpost personal apartment that unlocks in PlayStation Home from the game itself, as well as the Street Fighter IV and Resident Evil 5 rewards that unlock in-world after certain performance milestones are reached in the corresponding titles.

Question! I’ve read the rules but I’m still not clear on one thing. To win this statue, do we HAVE to play MW2 or can we just show up and still have a chance to win? My PS3 can’t play games right now sooooo….. Thanks to whoever answers.

There would have to be some gamers in Home in order to find some Call if Duty players.

So you want people to limp through ten or fifteen minutes of login procedure (those who can even log on anymore since 1.3/1.32) just to try and be in the right place at the right time without getting disconnecting or having their consoles freeze because of the horrible state of the Home program to try and win a crappy looking doll? LOL.

Then you want them to use the so called “universal” game launch to start their game and EXIT Home where they will then have to either have the names of those from Home written down or have added them to even find them again; and hopefully after this 30 to 45 minutes of garbage, not get disconnected after finally getting it set up and praying you actually make it back into Home after the game so as to not comletely defeat the whole purpose of that rediculous crap.LOL

Yeah that makes so much more sense than actually starting a game with your friends in about 5 minutes…

How about instead of these lame “events”, start getting these major issues cleaned and earn your paycheck. It’s becoming a fairly widespread concensus that you Home managers are doing an absolutley horrible job at getting Home back into at least halfway stable shape and anything else for that matter…

Modern Warfare 2.. Where do I begin? Ok so its a decent game, honestly it feels like modern warfare 1.5, is it the new perks that got everyone excited? Idk I loooooooove Uncharted 2 and everything it did for all my gaming experiences, even tho this was the most anticipated game of the year, which should have been Killzone 2, activision won’t be able to pull this crap again I dare modern warfare 3 to come out and add more perks and not change graphics

27

+ YungShep on November 10th, 2009 at 11:07 am said:

as upset as I am that modern warfare 2 will do well all this commercial success should have been killzone 2′s I don’t understand why 12 million people didn’t preorder killzone 2 I think killzone 2 is a far superior game then modern warfare 2.

but the home in-game launch is awesome tho for anygame, not just Modern Warfare 2

Typical, why does everyone refuse to put in the extra time and effort to include Canada?

Its not like you can’t include Canada or work something out with SCEC to do something different for Canada, you just choose to ignore us completely.

Why does everyone continue to do this?

@37, In Game Support isnt needed. Socom blows anyways. Use gamebattles.com for your clan matches. Thats where all the action is.

Unless there is a patch to fix the multiplayer invite system quick, everyone will just have to go to multiplayer and play random matches because the invite system is not currently working…. unless you know something we don’t and care to comment? :)

I love seeing good 3rd party companies support the little things for PlayStation (ei. Home, custom soundtrack, PS Store, etc.) I dont know all of them for MW2, but i’m glad to see that home is one of them. hope you all enjoy, for i will not be playing this, but Uncharted 2.
