Digital Comics Reader Now Available for PSP – Get a Free Issue!

Hi Everyone –

As you’ve already heard from Eric Lempel, the latest PSP firmware update v6.20 added the Digital Comics Reader to the XMB on the PSP. The PlayStation Network comic service on PlayStation Store will be coming in December (U.S. Only). In the meantime, you can get your hands on a free issue of Star Trek: Year Four – The Enterprise Experiment from our partners at IDW Publishing. Once you download the free Digital Reader, visit PlayStation Store on the PSP and enter the following promotion code:

724K-A4BG-JLD7

This code is only valid until December 16, 2009. The code must be redeemed directly on the PSP (not through PS3 or Media Go).

You should also check out www.playstationcomics.com for more information and to find a code for another free digital comic. (Hint: For those of you following PlayStation on Twitter, you might want to check there, too.)

IW stated two things. One was their parent company, ATVI, who owns the server company, DemonWare, failed at their job of running servers for the PSN. In this case they were responible for managing servers only for games publishes by ATVI and they failed hardcore. Two IW stated that Sony Japan needed to turn back on the PSN presence server for MW2 after DemonWare fixed their fail. So it’s both their faults. And more Sony’s fault because they failed at creating a unified network infrastructure for online gaming. Instead they opted for the cheap route and forced the developers and publishers to figure it out on their own. This issue would never happen on Xbox Live because M$ controls it all. Sony needs to step up, start charging users for PSN online gaming so those of us who demand real servers can get some.

PSP1000 in the house — I cannot download any of the comics, even though I have over 900MB free on my Memory Stick Pro.

The reader software looks great, but having to install it from my Mac (or PC) instead of having a PSN download is kinda lame.

Now if only I could get a comic to successfully download…

as for your 360 comment, sure if it might not happen on there, but if the servers go down, it doesnt just effect a small number of games, it effects all games. just look at a few xmas ago when their entire service was down.

I entered the code and tried to download three times, and all three times it failed. The fourth time, it locked up (kept saying “please wait,” so I reset the system. Now the code says I have the comic, but it is not letting me try to download it again.

Thanks for saving the US time with those 4 codes. I’m able to download and view ‘em all. Haven’t read comics in almost 2 decades- yea I’m old but man these digital comics on the PSP is pretty cool! Wonder what the prices will be now…

It lets me get Astro Boy and the other one but when I go and download Transformers and Star Trek it will hit 100% and get the 802 error. I try reenter it and it says the code is either typed in wrong or invalid. Sony what is the deal????

funny I tried 2 of them and download them gets to 100% complete then says Activating and then get “download failed” and now when I go to enter the code tells me its no longer valid… If I go to store and previous download list they are not listed there…….

Since people aren’t getting the message:

If you’re downloading it and get an error at the end, deactivate your video/comics content through Account Management > System Activation. Then activate it again.

The comics CAN be redownloaded through the download list, but not the download list in the PlayStation Store. On your PSP, go to Account Management > Transaction Management > Download List.

Ive been waiting for this since it was first announced and im so stoked! Unfortunately, im getting an error after downloading, it says ‘download failed’ and (8010A12E). Its in my download list and ive tried it multiple times.

All these new features on the PS3 and PSP have me really excited! On the PS3 I only got some sub navigation icons that I could not use but now the PSP has this main XMB navigation icon that serves no purpose except to, seemingly, try to aggravate us Canadians. The US call us all complainers yet seem to be okay about getting annoyed at a grey box around your friends list or a ticker in the corner of your TV. Guys, all you have to do to get the comics to work is to go to your account management, then go to system activation, then deactivate video/ comics. After, you reactivate video/comics and then you can download the comics with no problems. I did it and it worked on my 1000.

No need to fix what is not broken. The free comic downloading issue is not an actual failure. The failure is not informing everyone exactly what is needed to set up the PSP properly in order to download the free comics. Or what to do if you encount problems. Not everyone is clearly aware that they need to activate the PSP for the comic reader. A minor issue that is easily resolved. In the future SONY should anticipate all possible scenarios in order to avoid unecessary backlash. Break it down to the elementary level.

I was having the same problem, then I dug in another forum and they suggested re-activating your PSP with your PS3 (deactivate it and activate it again). I think the recent firmware updates somehow mess with your PSN account. I tried that trick and was able to get free comics.

The new comic reader is FANTASTIC, by the way. I’m saying it is a shade better than what’s available on the iPhone. Hopefully the comics will be reasonably priced.
