Holiday Celebrations Come to PlayStation Home + MotorStorm, Dead Space 2, and Diner Dash

Happy holidays Home-people!

We here on the PlayStation Home team are pleased to announce that we are kicking off the holiday season in a big way come this Thursday, December 10th. We have quite a few surprises lined up for you, and I don’t want to give away too much too soon, but it’s safe to say that this year’s festivities will run for the remainder of the month and will include some very surprising developments.

That is, of course, assuming the entire community works together to solve the puzzles (and collect the rewards) associated with the huge Festive Tree, coming to Central Plaza this week. Peep the picture below (smuggled out of the developers’ offices by yours truly) for a sneak peek of what’s in store for you. And make sure you log in every day throughout the holiday season to solve puzzles, unlock rewards, and help transform PlayStation Home into the premier party destination for the New Year.

PlayStation Home Holiday Tree

In other holiday-related news: We are releasing a ton of additional festive items that will help you celebrate the holidays properly in PlayStation Home, no matter what your personal style may be. Included in this new batch of items is a free menorah, for all of our community members that want to celebrate Chanukah in-world (free items for those of you who want to celebrate Christmas, Xmas, Kwanzaa, and even that holiday “for the rest of us” are currently available in the Mall). You’ll also find the Dead Space 2 Miner outfit (for guys and gals) in the Costumes store, along with a heap of other costumes bundled at prices that simply can’t be beat.

MotorStorm fanatics will find yet another addition to their collection awaiting them in the Estates store this week. The MotorStorm: Pacific Rift personal space is a perfect retreat for you and your friends after a day (or night) or racing around the 16 destructible tracks that make up the off-road mayhem of MotorStorm: Pacific Rift. Show the world that you are a true road warrior by customizing this unique beachfront locale with the MotorStorm-themed virtual items available in the Furniture store, and then invite your friends over to launch into multiplayer matches of MotorStorm: Pacific Rift. Check out this hot new personal space in the pics below.

This Friday, December 11th, we will be throwing a scavenger hunt event to celebrate the release of Hudson Entertainment’s Diner Dash. Those of you that log in between the hours of 12:00pm and 5:00pm PST (3:00pm and 8:00pm EST) will find segments of a voucher code scattered throughout PlayStation Home. The first 50 users that assemble and redeem the code will receive one free download of Diner Dash on the PlayStation Network. So if you’re reading this now, it’s time you get into PlayStation Home and start searching high and low. These codes are guaranteed to go fast!

Last but certainly not least, our development team has managed to resolve the Z(7,-104) error that a small number of users had been encountering when logging in to PlayStation Home. In order to resolve this problem we will be rolling back the last reward item received on all affected accounts. This will fix will be deployed during this week’s regularly scheduled downtime (please note that due to the extra work required this week, the maintenance period will be extended).

Once this rollback is complete, users previously affected will once again be able to log into PlayStation Home with all of their other rewards and items intact. Of those previously affected, a very small number of users may find that their rewards have been rolled back further than the previous item in order to permanently fix this issue. This was done on a case-by-case basis, to ensure that all of you could get back into Home.

As always, stay tuned to this blog for more info about the season’s upcoming content and events (including another chance to win the UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves Fortune Hunter Edition. There’s so much cool stuff set to release over the coming weeks and months that we are sure you will keep coming Home time and time again.

Thank you for the to win Uncharted 2 Among Thieves TH Edition contest.
However I have a big complaint about the last
contest for this prize. This was for the highest score on FORTUNATE THIEVES MINI GAME.

I played the FORTUNATE THIEVES MINI GAME for many hours and would have played it more but gave up because of the blatant cheating by others including the “winner” “Corrosive Modulus.”
I saw the obvious impossible high scores being reached in quick succession by several players. I also saw them actually get those outrageously high scores by getting others to play with them and allow them to rack up these ridiculous scores. I was so upset at trying so hard and long to win only to get beat by cheaters.
Will Home actually do something about the cheating? Anyone who plays FORTUNATE THIEVES MINI GAME knows that these impossible scores were reached easily and repeatedly through cheating. Cheating makes these contests pointless.
Please do something to maintain the integrity of these nice contests.

Complaining about the prices of stuff in Home is stupid. Very few items are over-priced, and you don’t have to buy anything anyway. There are tons of free clothes and items to unlock by playing the awesome FREE games in Home. And compared to avatar clothing over on the 360, Home clothing is a bargain, and at least you get to show it off in a 3-d interactive world. Example…On Home you get 2 (what I call lightsabers) for 99 cents. A lightsaber on 360 is $6!!!! Speaking about (what I call lightsabers), I wish you guys would just make them SLIGHTLY longer.

I love Home, and I use it daily/semi-daily. And because I love all the stuff Sony gives me for free compared to the competition, I show my support by spending a few dollars a month in Home if there are items I want.

The only thing I would currently change about Home is being able to use gloves and glowsticks at the same time. They should be seperate from a customization point of view.

I really have to bring this up…

Is there a reason SCEA Home management keeps bringing this up? “Included in this new batch of items is a free menorah, for all of our community members that want to celebrate Chanukah in-world (free items for those of you who want to celebrate Christmas, Xmas, Kwanzaa, and even that holiday “for the rest of us” are currently available in the Mall).”

Since you all made a big deal of it last week also with the “most” of the holiday content being free, “most” people have actually checked to find out that only two religious based holiday items are free. Everything else has a price tag. What’s better is that the subject has been brought up multiple times just for Home management to tip toe around the subject.

Then great way to show some actual love for the product you’re promoting oh so well. The one year mark is coming up within the next few days and what is SCEA doing? A forum post to talk about Home? Yeah, that’s great when SCEE is getting a FREE treehouse and SCEJ is marking down prices by 50%. We get to go to the forum to talk about the “great events” that SCEA has put on this year like the epic Zombie Rally…

+ BlindMango on December 9th, 2009 at 2:10 pm said:

great update, but is it that hard to say “Christmas”, I mean, I got a Christmas tree for my HOME apartment last year and it was called “Festive Tree” really?

Anyway, thanks for all the support you give to Home Sony, keep it up!

+ Sparx88 on December 9th, 2009 at 2:21 pm said:

This stinks! My PS3 has been busted since the end of September and while waiting until Christmas to get it fixed I’ve been missing out on a crapload of goodies from Sony.

+ Major01 on December 9th, 2009 at 3:09 pm said:

It’s called a Christmas tree, not a holiday or festive tree. But anyway, thanks for the continued support of home.

+ Sekoku on December 9th, 2009 at 3:54 pm said:

And yet: There is still JACK ALL to do in your “private space” other than… running man? Look at reward items?

Why should I invite people there? Give me a damn Poker table already. I don’t want to deal with glitchers and should be able to play Poker in my space with friends.

While I’m at it: You guys still haven’t given me back the Alcove I lost when you gave me the White Knight Chronicals statue by mistake. How about… you know… giving me that back, as well as the other people that have had items taken from them as well?

+ VeniDormi on December 9th, 2009 at 4:41 pm said:

Any chance you’re going to fix the persistent issue some of us have been having with games in the Red Bull space? I’ve been unable to play the Red Bull Air Race ever since the leaderboard was implemented – the game always says “Game is Occupied”, even if no one else is playing, and the leaderboard is permanently blank, no text at all. I tried activating the jukebox on the beach and had the same issue, so I’m worried that Flugtag will also be affected. I’ve already tried deleting Home, the data from “Game Data Utility” and my Home save files, and nothing helps. Thanks, and Merry Christmas!

I was thinking the same thing!
I would love to have a Nativity scene, even if I had to pay for it. Sony please don’t do us Christians an injustice by not having a Nativity scene for CHRISTmas. thank you and merry Christmas to you all!

+ purelizard on December 10th, 2009 at 4:54 am said:

I agree with comment 18. In the Japan Home they have a FREE items icon to choose if you want the free stuff. Why can’t the US home do that? It would make it a lot easier for the “Freebie Hunters”

+ purelizard on December 10th, 2009 at 5:01 am said:

Oh and yet another issue…. Is the freezing of our systems going to be fixed? I am so sick of going to home and having my system freeze!!!

@ #11 you shou ld get a shirt that says” I had the Z error and all I got was this stupid t shirt”. seems applicable to me.

I just wish that when starting Home it would take me to my personal space before taking me anywhere else. It is Home after all.

+ Keyeszx on December 10th, 2009 at 6:05 am said:

All those people complaining about having to use real money, guess what… you don’t have to. It’s to enhance the experience of home and there are enough free items to do that either way. Also the companies have to make money so they can pay the people who make these clothing models and textures, it’s not done for free.

Also for anyone who says that it’s not real so what’s the point of having to pay, do you buy DLC? That’s not real and you have to pay but it enhances the gaming experience just like the clothing and items for home.

@49 zombie9 , You should back off cowboy , the guy means well. Secondly , I have a J.O.B do you? This is probably why you cant spend a measly 2 bucks on a virtual shirt.. I don’t see what the damn big deal is about really. It’s just 2 bucks..you’d spend more than that on your cigarettes or a cigarette of the left handed variety..yeah thats right I said it.

+ redknight4 on December 10th, 2009 at 10:40 am said:

when are we going to see locoisland in the NA home

you need goto your personal space before exiting home it keeps track of your location in home like wow keeps track of your location when you log out.

@”those complaining about real money used for items in home”
do you complain about real money being used in free mmo’s for items as well? The real money for items actually helps pay for the server and maintance for that server.

+ Elvick_ on December 10th, 2009 at 2:00 pm said:

There should be a free Christmas tree.

Even if it’s simple, or small… or even dead.

Better than paying .49 for one.

+ Lepton68 on December 10th, 2009 at 2:59 pm said:

Since you call the Christmas Tree a Festive Tree, why don’t you call the Menorah a Festive Candelabra?

And those items are free, yet the Festive Pole is not? Equality!

it truly amazes me that so many of these posts are over semantics. “christmas”, “chanukah”, “kwanzaa”… you wanna get REALLY technical, the “christmas” tree has NOTHING to do with christianity, it’s a PAGAN ritual that was adapted. think about it, what does a decorated tree have to do with the birth of jesus??? it’s idiotic to get bent over vagarities to quell the zealots on here, just GET OVER IT!!!!

I see nothing wrong in paying for items on Home or just finding free goodies but its a nice way to help Sony out with us having to pay monthly to play online wish people can see that for once.
