Hello everyone!

Ramone Russell here, Community Manager for ModNation Racers and avid kart racer.

One of my Mods I call 5-0

Everyone at United Front Games and SCEA are extremely exited to finally put the game in your hands. I’m here to give everyone a quick peek into some of the features and content available in the ModNation Racers PS3 public beta.

In short we are giving you the ability to race, share, download, remix, rate, and most importantly create. Everyone with a beta code will have our state of the art creation tools at your finger tips. We’re absolutely stoked to see the Tracks, Mods, and Karts the beta community will create.

The public beta will include three tracks from the full game Farm Frenzy, Market Run and Sandstorm. There are a couple of race options included in the beta as well. In addition to playing online with up to 12 players, you can compete for the best lap times in Time Trial.

ModNation Racers Beta -Farm Frenzy

It’s home on the firing range here on Farm Frenzy. Drift and shortcut your way through these meadows, but look out for the sheep! Especially if you dare to take the jump off the barn roof.

ModNation Racers Beta - Market Run ModNation Racers Beta - Sand Storm

The desert oasis in Market Run (left) looks calm from the outside, but the action inside is anything but. Crash through the crowded alleys to max out your weapons and pull out 720-spins on the big wall jump to build up your boost. In Sand Storm (right) Deep in the heart of the desert, this off-road race winds through rolling dunes and treacherous cliffs. Try not to break a sweat as you explore the many paths through the buried ruins.

The next area of the game included in the beta I would like to talk about is the ModSpot. What’s the ModSpot you ask? It’s the central hub area in ModNation Racers you load into once you download the beta. Everything takes place in the ModSpot. It’s where you can meet up with your friends or make some new ones. You can also view, rate, and download the top rated Mods, Karts, and Tracks as well. Lastly it’s where you launch into the Creation Station where you can create your own Mods, Karts and Tracks.

Remember, in North America the ModNation Racers Public Beta will run from today, December 18, through January 10 for everyone who was lucky enough to procure a beta voucher. If you already have a voucher (Did you pick up LittleBigPlanet Game of the Year Edition?), fire up your PS3 and redeem your code on the PlayStation Store to get in on the action. If you don’t have one, you’re in luck – the PlayStation.Blog is giving away a few hundred today! Keep your eyes peeled to the PlayStation Twitter feed and Facebook Page today for details (If you’re unlucky today, even more Beta vouchers will be given away on Monday!).

  • i what the beta helllllla bad

  • damn
i got in and it all gone

  • @jedigamer316 you got into the beta??????

  • what the hell its not even on the twitter yet, but i tried 5random codes and none of them worked, how fast are you guys?

  • What’s the deal of U.S residents only free free giveaway codes on Facebook? By the way I live in Canada

  • i got hit with the error. what is the error???

  • Okay, this is just cruel. I have been sitting at my computer ALL DAY refreshing my browser, and when the third batch FINALLY came in, I GOT A DAMN SERVER ERROR BECAUSE EVERYONE WAS TRYING TO INPUT A CODE. I wasn’t too late; your servers couldn’t handle the pressure. It’s a waste of time, money, and devotion to structure the beta this way. Sony, the point is that this has left me and many other valuable consumers with a highly negative experience, rather than a positive one. Look, there’s 652 or so comments on here right now, and many of them are by the same people- so why not just give all the commenters a beta key after this thing is closed. Your servers should be able to handle a couple hundred more people, and they’d all be VERY grateful and praise your generosity for the next few weeks. Right now, you have a lot of angry people, but you can turn this around. The way your running this doesn’t make business sense, and unless you’re allergic to money, I’d suggest taking my advice.

  • Can i get a beta code please!!!!

  • Please can i have a beta code???

    Dear, PlayStation

You’ve convinced me not to purchase your game. Is this some kind of joke? Having people randomly take time out of their day to check the site only for all of the Beta codes to be all used up by the time we get to them? Do you not value the time we take out of our day to go through the tedious input process of the PSN Store to try out your product only to be denied?

Thanks for the MAG Beta and not jerking me around when it came to that game. I will be purchasing that game the day it comes out.

You can keep ModNation Racers. I don’t really want it anymore. 2010 is full of games like God of War III, Gran Turismo, Yakuza 3, Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, Mass Effect 2, BioShock 2, MAG, and many others, if you don’t want me to fit ModNation Racers into my budget in order to ensure a purchase by me before I set my mind on the games I want to buy spend my limited money on(Sorry, most of us aren’t a manager of a division within a major corporation), that’s fine.

Just don’t waste my time, please.

    Signed,
    II_Timeless_II, Sony customer

  • @II_Timeless_II – You don’t NEED to play the beta. And why not just be patient and wait till demand for the keys dies down. The way that PlayStation is hyping the game, it seems they will be giving out tons of keys. You can also just wait for a demo to be released, unless you’re just as impatient as you seem.

  • Dear, CluelessJoRo

I don’t NEED to play the Beta. I said that. But if I’m going to buy the game, I need to start organizing how my money is spent NOW. I can wait until they bring out a demo, sure. If they really want to use a kart racer to compete directly with the line-up that’ll be rolling out around that time. It’s not like I’m going to magically have an extra $60, but if I was growing to love the game now, I could budget in a way where I don’t dismiss the game in favor of Yakuza 3 or something.

Personally, I don’t care that the Beta isn’t fully open, though. I just don’t like the disregard they’re showing for people’s time and interest in the title.

  • @CluelessJoRo

I agree. no ones MAKING you play the beta dude. And nobody s making you sit at your computera all day, i mean come on. If you really want the code, of course youd wait as long as you have to but dont complain about it. Also, the error IS NOT A SEVER ISSUE. The error only happenes when you type in too many codes, and bans you for about 24hrs.

And also, the codes are getting used incredibly fast, i mean theres only so many twitter followers, only so many people who are wathcing face book, and only so many people who regularly check the blog. There are tons of codes being offered (frequently)so why the hell are they gone so damn quick??? on top of that, this is for US only, so how are they getting used up so fast?? Well you cant blame the devs, i mean I think they are being very generous. they could have it a whole lot harder to get in the beta.

  • Some one please send me a beta code?! psn is the same as my user name. thanks in advance.

  • whoever wants to be in the beta contactme at [d u c t i l 4 4 @yahoo.com, without the spaces) . i will exchage it for addons of killzone 2, motorstorm, resident evil 5…or a cool psn game. SERIUOS DEAL.-

  • and be quick because only 1 person now could download the beta…

  • @II_Timeless_II

It sounds like you need each game out on release date. Why not just play the demo and buy it later down the line if you feel it would make a good buy. You have all of next year to decide. The game might even drop in price by the time you make your decision. It isn’t like you’ll be missing out on anything.

I do understand what you mean about the whole planning out thing, but I don’t think you should worry about getting the game around release date.

  • The codes are being taken so fast simply because people are getting the chance to play a game from FREE. Yes it’s not the full game and will have issues since it’s in the Beta stage. But still, it’s something being offered for FREE (if you can get a code to work) … and to top it if you’re getting to play around on a game that many others won’t get to see or play until it’s released some time in 2010.

I’ve given up trying now, been trying for days to get a code, but no matter when I start trying all the codes are snapped up within seconds. Hell I’ve even googled around signed up to various sites who claim to have a bunch of codes to give out. So far I’ve been SOL :(

I guess I’ll just have to wait for the magic code fairy to show up … or for the game to be released, whichever comes first (my money is on the later).

  • Looks like consumers aren’t allowed to have opinions anymore.

I said my piece. No one is forcing me to do anything, you are correct. Also, no one is forcing me to continue to follow this game.

There are many games to buy next year. If Sony doesn’t want me to prepare to purchase this game. That’s fine. Just don’t try to encourage me to waste my time. They didn’t force me to waste my time, they only encouraged it.

  • @KGH (Comment 667)

We’re talking about a different error. If you type something in while everyone else is trying to get in, it says something along the lines of “Server Error. Please try again.”
Look, the devs could’ve made it a whole lot easier. Just make the beta open, and they get tons of free, willing bug testers. They also could’ve made the beta work like MAG’s- at least in that case, they didn’t make you scramble to enter the codes in a two second rat race. The odds of getting in are so slim they’re illusory, and all the parties involved -Sony, the developers, and consumers like us- are suffering as a result.

  • Maybe they shouldn’t have had the beta in the first place and your time wouldn’t have been wasted. Haha.

  • @Trollfazz
well of course ppl want it because its free, we all know that. But that still doesnt justify why they are gone so fast. Theres only so many playstation fans who are monitoring the sites for a code. We all know they want it but how many in relation to the number codes is the wierd part.

  • Or, they could’ve just not implied that there was an actual chance at getting a working code.

  • Or, they could’ve just not implied that there was a chance of getting a code.

  • @CluelessJoRo (Comment 675)
Nobody’s saying that the beta was a bad idea, just that the distribution could’ve been handled a lot better. Basically, Sony’s pissing off a lot of people like this, which discourages them from trusting Sony in the future. Everyone loses.

  • How can I even get one of these…?

  • whoever wants to be in the beta contactme at [d u c t i l 4 4 @yahoo.com, without the spaces) . i will exchage it for addons of killzone 2, motorstorm, resident evil 5…or a cool psn game. SERIUOS DEAL.-and be quick because only 1 person now could download the beta…

  • @AshenMask

It was a sarcastic remark. But Sony could have handled this better. They did have people sign up for beta vouchers at one point and it would have been better if they just stuck with that.

  • Oh! Send me a code for this game plz =D

  • How can i get one?

  • 684: You have to wait for a batch of them to be released. They’re being given out periodically on the PlayStation Facebook page, and some more should come out today. Keep your eye on the page until the codes come up, then AT LIGHTNING SPEED enter the codes in PSN (VERY large emphasis on “at lightning speed”. Those codes will be gone within minutes).

  • This is BS! I got Little Big Planet Game of The Year edition on black friday and it didnt come with a code so I was like ok Ill just sign up and get one but I get some stupid theme! wow! WTF I WANT MY CODE! NOW!!!!!!!

  • They just put up new codes maybe a few minutes ago. I tried entering a few, but I got an error for each. Hopefully someone here is more successful.

  • Personally I think the keys should’ve been dispersed via email to those who registered. Just think how cool it would’ve been to get an e-mail ‘Guess what? We have an opening in the Mod Nation Racers Beta! AND since you registered we’re sending the code to you!’

While this may have caused less of an issue the amount of buzz around the game wouldn’t be as high – maybe that’s what the developers want.

The demand for the activation codes is remarkable and I think that’s a good indicator to the developers of future success – if the game is good and is reviewed well.

While I’d love to have a code, I’ll be glad to try out a demo later. If the game meets my expectations – I’ll buy it. End of story.

  • Finally managed to grab a code from the latest batch.
    I think i busted my F5 key….

  • Great call on the whole facebook distribution method for the beta codes. I sat at my desk from 12am to just after 4pm (about 16 hours) refreshing the page to get a ModNation beta code and…just take a guess at where I’m going with this…I didn’t get one. Super, way to go Sony, you’re f**&^!ng awesome! And since I bought LBP on launch day, buying a SECOND COPY just for a beta code is…well, stupid, there’s no other word for it. So I also enjoy being punished for being an early adopter, thanks.

  • Why utilize a distribution method that relies more on dedication and interest in the actual game when you can just throw out one that relies almost entirely on dumb luck? It’s genius! Very well thought-out.

  • @those who wrote me, please EMAIL me for details of what to do… i’ll be waiting now

  • I am really mad at you guys for not sending out beta codes to PS3 Owners in an email. I might switch to Xbox since you guys are not sending codes to us users who don’t usually go on PSN and sending to them who are on 24/7.

I really wanted to get on the Beta for ModNation Racers.

You just lost a fan who bought only your consoles till now. PS1 to PS3!

  • WoW Russell, you guys must have pasted out 500+ codes. thx even if I couldn’t personally get one to work for my friend. BTW the game is awesome ….another PS3 A+++ game.

  • @zeenshan810_gta
That has to be the dumbest comment i’ve ever seen posted on the PSblog

  • Thx for all the codes

  • Dear United Front Games,

I have been playing this beta, and let me tell you, that I LOVE IT! Have you seen the many awesome mods, karts, and tracks people have created? Wow, it is just stunning they can do so much with so little amount of stickers. I can not wait to see when the full version comes out, and what people can do when they have access to all stickers, etc. Please, please, please, do not delete any of the mods, karts, and tracks I talked about for the full version, cause a lot of people spent a lot of time on them! Thanks

    P.S.

I am buying this game DAY 1!! :)
