Happy Holidays — The SEGA Mega Sale for PSN is on!

112 4

Hello, my name is David Beavers, I work on the community team here at Sega and I have a special announcement for the PlayStation Blog readers. Every SEGA game on PSN and PSPgo is 40% off, from this afternoon (after the PlayStation Store update) through January 7th. This is your chance to not only snag downloadable content for all variety of flagship SEGA titles — present and past — but to load up your PSPgo with SEGA titles, as well.

There’s a pretty wide breadth of stuff here. On the Downloadable Content side, you can shore up your copy of Sonic Unleashed with new stages and missions — all of the various Adventure Packs for Sonic Unleashed are discounted, with tons of daytime and nighttime missions. I’m a big fan of the daytime stages, and all of the available packs feature more daytime than nighttime missions (but for Werehog fans, there’s plenty of nighttime missions as well).

Speaking of Sonic, the “very hard” missions for Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 are also discounted, so if you were ever looking for a dirt-cheap excuse to complete your Sonic collection, there you have it! But the real gem — at least in my own humble opinion — is the extra content for Valkyria Chronicles. This includes all three DLC packs, featuring bonus missions and the amazing EX mode, which has a ton of new features, weapons, and increased difficulty.

I’ve already written lots about my undying love for the tactical strategy of games like Shining Force, and Valkyria Chronicles is absolutely the spiritual successor to these games. While I can’t say enough good things about the game itself, I also am incredibly impressed with the DLC that’s come out — it’s not just an ad-hoc collection of maps or standalone missions, but several new ways to play the game that deepen and add to an already complex and emotionally engaging story.

Don’t just take my word for it though — our own honorary Gallian, Ruby Eclipse, has fought long and hard for this game as a labor of love. His message to the fans who have worked so hard to help make this great game succeed:

To arms, Gallia! In support of the season and our fans’ amazing dedication, we’d like to say thank you with a special 40% off holiday sale across all three packs of Valkyria Chronicles DLC!

See the battlefield from Selvaria’s eyes in Behind Her Blue Flame, take on challenging odds with some of Squad 7’s rising stars in Enter the Edy Detachment, or add a whole new level of difficulty – and earn new, powerful weapons – with Hard Mode EX!

Did I say PSP games before? Oh yes! A little while back the community team here at SEGA took a look at some of the best & brightest PSP games SEGA had made, in celebration of the launch of the PSPgo. Now those titles are slashed 40%, and it’s nigh time to take a look at shoring up your collection of portable games.

I already wrote about Sonic Rivals, and now both Sonic Rivals and Sonic Rivals 2 are part of the Holiday sale. This was an awesome experience — I hadn’t actually played them until recently, and didn’t really know what to expect. I was surprised to find that these are incredibly well-crafted racing games, but with the exquisite level design that’s always been core to the best games of the Sonic series.

Aside from the great Sonic games that graced the PSP I’m thrilled to say that some of the most eclectic and unique titles ended up on that system as well. I am speaking here of the incomparable Crazy Taxi and Crush. Crazy Taxi is exactly what it sounds like, and this is a very good thing. It’s also good that it’s on a portable system, because this is one of those games where one’s body tends to move in direct proportion to the craziness of the game as you twist & turn your way through crowded city streets.

This really just scratches the surface — you can also pick up the gnarly road-battler Full Auto 2: Battlelines, the charming & addictive Super Monkey Ball Adventure, and the awesome 2D action shooter, Gunstar Heroes!

  • Bayonetta is so terrible on the PS3 IGN had to do 2 different video review. This is truly a damn shame!

  • Trophies for VC? Still waiting Sega. It is your call as to whether or not I (and others) support you further. Including VC II.

After the Bayonetta port… can we get some real love… VC TROPHIES!?!??!

  • @6 Basically, despite downgrading the visuals, half the frame rate was still lost in the conversion. So it is basically an uglier version that runs half as fluidly as the original. The demo is up on the store, just keep in mind the demo runs off your hard drive so the loading times in the retail one aren’t present in the demo. Also the frame rate gets worse than found in the demo as well.

    @36
I bought both Edy’s Detachment and Behind the Blue Flame at the original prices. I could understand passing on Edy’s Detachment (which was a bit much for one mission), but I highly recommend Behind the Blue Flame. 3 interesting missions that play differently from what was in the main game and some insight into the other side.

  • I feel the same way as you @50. I will only buy in a bargin bin (no more than $20) or by used. I don’t want to give sega any of my support.

Too bad sony was doing well and now they perpetuate the notion that ps3 is inferior with respect to multiplatform games.

  • How come Sony doesn’t advertise these things in MediaGo?

  • will europe also get those 40% off over the holidays? just bought vc two weeks ago so the dlc would come in really handy.

  • Still holding my breath for Valkyria Chronicles trophy patch. Please hurry. I’m a disturbingly deep shade of blue right now.

  • @50 TakiFuGu

I agree, it sucks that the PS3 version of Bayonetta is not up to par. Sega are a bunch of fools for letting that happen, absolute fools, they’re going to get a LOT of slack from PS3 fans about this.

But! 8.2 does equal “mediocre title”, lol! Since when is 8.2 a bad score? I don’t get people these days, if it’s under a 9/10 it’s a garbage game and not worth buying/playing? Makes no sense at all, some of my favourtie games have gotten much, much worse than an 8.2, reviews and more specificaly the number attached to them shouldn’t be THAT important to everyone, I say atleast try the game youself before you let some guy over the internet judge it for you.

  • edit: 8.2 does NOT equal…

  • Sega I want to have your love child. Thank you for having such good sales

  • Man, I would buy all that Valkyria Chronicles DLC if you’d just add trophies. Just let us know if they’re coming or not.

  • Good job Sega on Bayonetta. You did the best you could on a console that does its best to get in the way of developers goals with its unnecessarily complicated and intentionally difficult to program for architecture. Maybe things will get easier for you guys when Sony learns from their mistakes with the ps4. Valiant effort Sega.

  • Valkyria Chronicles needs TROPHIES!!!

  • I completely agree with #52.

Since Sega blew it with the PS3 version of Bayonetta, we deserve trophies to re-establish confidence in Sega!!!!

  • Trophies for Valkyria Chronicles would be nice. Can we get an official yes or no? I’d prefer it be a ‘yes’ though.

  • @27….
Well I got rid of my 360 cause I kept RRODing and got a PS3….
And I really enjoyed Bayonetta and with all the problems the IGN review talked about it, i was looking forward to buying it…but not anymore.

  • I believe SEGA will answer to the cries of the fans for Bayonetta because you all are asking for it.

Look at Yakuza 3 it’s finally coming over because the fans asked for it.

Not to mention a guest appearance of RYO from Shenmue on Sonic All-Stars Racing (ok not so cool but yeah .. better than nothing)

  • Hey everyone! Just FYI we fixed the listings: Gunstar Heroes is listed under PSN, and Rally Revo and Football Manager have been added.

  • I hate to be one of these guys that “if theres not trophy patch for VC im not getting the DLC!” Fact of the matter is i use to play games just for Fun, but the times change and sadly Sega this is one of the things holding me back from buying this…Why! Why? did you guys Rape Bayonetta=(

  • +1 for Trophies in Valkyria. I know we all fans have been such a pest about it… but that would make us very very happy.

  • David may you please pass on our request for Trophy support for Valkyria Chronicles?

    Please?

  • If Sega wants me to pick up a copy of VC then what I really want to see is Trophy Support. If they have time to craft and release DLC that they charge us for, it shouldn’t be too hard to create a patch with trophy support.

It’s the same difference for me between companies like Naughty Dog and Insomniac.

Naughty Dog went back and got us trophies for Uncharted even though it was a little extra work while Insomniac has made no gesture of the same. It’s a small thing, but there is a gesture there that leads to loyalty.

  • @Andrefpvs and others: Absolutely I will pass on the requests; while I’m not in a position to comment on anything further it’s my job to make sure this sort of thing gets passed along as best as possible :)

  • Kinda wish we could get Sega Genesis titles on PSN as I would really enjoy having them being playable on both PS3/PSP similar to PS1 titles. I loved Gunstar Heroes and its the only Sega Genesis title to grace PSN. If you guys can get them on Virtual Console and XBLA then there’s no reason why you can’t do the same for PSN.

  • One more customer requesting trophies for Valkyria, Sega show us you care if you want us to care back … we’re dissapointed enough to be getting an inferior port of bayonetta :(

  • @Demonhunter84 Couldn’t agree more, as with everything else like this all I can do is listen to your suggestions and try to make sure the right people hear them. But I’m a huge, huge fan of the classic stuff and for what it’s worth, I would love to see the opportunity for PSN folks to get the chance to play those again (or for the first time).

  • FOR GALLIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Trophies for Valkyria Chronicles?
    are there any plans ?
    thanks for the DLC.

  • squad 7 move out.

  • I would also LOVE to have trophies for Valkyria Chronicles. Great game!

I’ve got four gollars and change in my PSN account, think i’ll pick up one of the VC DLC :D

  • I already have the Valkyria Chronicles DLC and it is fantastic. It would be great if you guys brought over the DLC that is available in Japan that isn’t available here yet.

  • Oh, and add me to the list of people who want trophies for Valkyria Chronicles. I played through the game once and started a second run, but have put off playing it more in case I need to start again for trophies.

  • To be totally honest, at least for your old PSP games, the 40% off price is really around what they should be priced at full time. Paying $20 for games that are 2-3 years old is asking a lot.

Similarly, I don’t understand why you don’t put up one of the few actually good PSP games from Sega (Phantasy Star Portable), that people would pay full price for.

  • I think that Sonic will never die out

  • Fix Bayonetta you ****ing clowns.

  • Time to get the VC DLC!

  • Add me to the list of people who want trophies for VC.

I’ll buy the expansions if VC gets trophy support.

  • You had me at Valkyria Chronicles DLC discount.

  • Hey Sega want to show us some love release your Saturn and Dreamcast catalog on the psn! I pay good money for some of these games!

  • i dunno wat deal is with beyonetta. but thats not my issue.. ty 4 this sale 40% is steal 4 some of theses games . Im going to try to get a few, christmas shopping is always good with Sega. I remember when i was lil kid my moma always got me and brother sega games.. I feel i should stay loyal to the brand and celibrate christmas with you guys again..

Merry christmas to everyone at sega and everyone on the blogs

    mcbuttz78

  • is there like a “sega” icon so i dont have to go through the whole store?! thanks! i feel like splurging!

  • Any chance of Chu Chu Rocket ever getting released on PSN?

  • Merry Christmas to you guys at Sega and everyone on the blog. I agree with the VC trophy support so add my name too. Thinking about Bayonetta all they can do now is patch it. Seriously if the patch was 1GB big and it fixed almost all the issues would you still complain?

I love Sega… sonic is what go me into gaming. Unleashed was good just yal didnt that warehog thing. listen to ppl on the blog they only want the best n you cant knock em for that! HAPPY HOLIDAYS

  • @SaintNoir

    Speak for yourself :)

I’m a proud fan and supporter of VC. I honestly don’t care if it gets trophies or not. If I cared I wouldn’t have played through the game 4 times and on my 5th and bought both mission packs and will be buying EX Hard Mode shortly.

Bring on VCII SEGA, can’t wait to play VC on the go on my PSP :)

  • Um so what time is this update occuring so ican buy the dlc for vc. I mean its 7pm on the east coast. Believe it or not u guys can update before 5pm local for u. We won’t mind. (Sarcasm) n by the way does anyone know if we will get the ccrazy sale EU got like resistance psp half price cuz I just got the ac:bl psp bundle n would love to add that title but I refuse to pay full price for a dl when the physical umd is always cheaper.

  • Why do I feel like the only one who doesn’t want trophy support for Valkyria Chronicles. I’m buying the content even if I never touch it (after Christmas of course, don’t know what I’m getting except a puzzle game I truly love) except every time I go to play it I feel challenged to play something else by my competitive nature.

Every single Sega post with VC mentioned is a flood (and I do mean massive flood) of Trophy requests… GREAT GAMES DONT NEED TROPHIES!!!!

Back to topic… Looks like I’m going to have a very very Sega Christmas this year… Sega Genesis Collection, Sega Rally Revo… I think I’ve already spent $40 on games and I was going to buy Persona on PSP… too many choices everyone :(

  • Quick question, as it’s past 7pm EST now which seems to be when people suggest these sales will take effect and they haven’t yet: Are these sales offers available in Canada, or only the US?

  • @Arterian Sale prices are available in Canada as well; I’m not sure when the store will update for everyone but I asked and both U.S./Canada should get the price drops!

  • Wow 7:40 still no update. I’m sorry but the psn team is a epic failure. Why does it always seem the updates are always late or some content has to be delayed. Why is never smooth and hassle free n then they never even say anything regarding the delay. This is not for grace she is just a face for a company. Sony needs to get their act together. If u live on the east coast u might as well check the next for these updates lately.

  • @98 Its called MAG Beta key… that comes out this store update for early download. I’m trying it, but it will probably be just another Battle Field 4096 or something. I’m not patient for this anymore and I might as well stop looking tonight.
