Happy Holidays from the PlayStation Blog and Thanks for a Great 2009!

181 11

Can you believe we’re capping off a decade in a week? It’s certainly been an amazing 10 years for the PlayStation platform, and 2009 was no exception by any means. Looking back, it’s astonishing how much content hit PS3, PSP, PS2 and PSN this year (Seriously, I just looked at every month this year. The sheer amount of content blows my mind).

Here on the Blog, we certainly couldn’t have made it through ’09 without your support. We had several hugely successful meet-ups this year, including the San Francisco GDC meet-up, the Mama’s Hot Tamale E3 eat-a-thon, a PAX gathering in Seattle and the recent VGA viewing party in Hollywood. We gave away lots of great stuff throughout the year thanks to some addictive PSN titles, and rolled out a flurry of videos featuring the people behind all your favorite games.

And speaking of games, wow. Just wow. I feel like I say this every year, but it’s just getting better and better for us gamers. LocoRoco 2, Flower, Killzone 2, inFAMOUS, Fat Princess, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, Batman Arkham Asylum, Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time, UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves, God of War Collection…I could go on all day. But I won’t. I don’t want this to be about me spouting off games you know, played and loved. Rather, let’s use this space to find out what your favorite moments from 2009 were in PlayStation Land (list your top three, desert-island, favorite games of the year, perhaps?).

But even more importantly, Jeff and I want to hear all about what you liked or hated (yes, we can take it!) on the PlayStation.Blog this year. We know you want a podcast (working on it). We know you like lots of video coverage. What third-party developers would you like to see more of around here in 2010? Anything else? Please drop your comments here and we promise we’ll read them and take ’em to heart.

So for 2009, that’s a wrap. Again, a huge ‘thank you’ for making the Blog thrive in ’09. You turned out in spades to make our meet-ups a big win. And we’ll continue the trend as we roll in to 2010 with MAG, Heavy Rain, God of War III and beyond. Merry Christmas, happy Hanukkah, happy New Year and/or whatever else you’re celebrating this holiday season, hopefully Mariah Carey-Christmas music free. I’ll leave you with a few of our favorite videos of the year. See you in the zero ten.

  • I have to say, John D blowing up the blog was easily the most epic moment of the year ^,^

    • Yeah, we actually had to order more servers because of that. They\’re being optimized now, and will be rolled out in early Jan. Hopefully then, you won\’t see stuff like double comments.

And hopefully John won\’t be able to break the blog.

  • I just like all the interviews and the amount of communication in the comment section, thanks.

  • I’m really looking forward to PSN Premium, more premium avatars, animated avatars, more dynamic themes, Qore dynamic themes (no more static ones lol), online PSN control panel to send/receive messages, cross game chat, etc. 2009 was a great year for PSN, love the twitter/facebook pages, love the blog. Blog wise, I’d love to see more features like post edit, a way to view all staff responses seperately, and hotlinking PSN IDs to trophy pages.

    2010 will be great!

  • I voted for ‘Other’, and my favorite part about the blog is the constant coverage you post everyday!

Happy Festivus and Merry Christmas to you guys at the blog!

  • What an awesome year to be a PS3 owner, can’t wait for what 2010 has for us :)

  • Great Meet-ups? You didn’t even visit Florida this year :(

Well, Happy holidays, it was a great year on the blog anyways:)

  • Congrats to Sony, PlayStation, and PSBlog on another great year of content all around. So many great moments this year, but i have to say that my favorite was a tie between the ps eye stuff and the Uncharted interviews. Fan of both (EYETOY PLAY rocked so a more evolved ps3 version will be awesome. And gotta love uncharted and naughty dog.)

So Chris and Jeff you guys rock and can’t wait to see you guys first post of next year.
2010 Baby!!!!!!! THE TRUE YEAR OF THE PLAYSTATION.

  • The best moments of 2009 were the announcements of JRPGs that will FINALLY come to the PS3. It’s pretty sad that a PSone re-release had to outsell most new titles for you guys(and SE) to wake the hell up. Get your core gamers what we want.

Here’s to 2010 the Year of the PS3 JRPGs, which will make 2010 the Year of the PS3.

    • <6 weeks til White Knight, then FFXIII, and NIS and others have stuff coming as well. 2010 is year of the PS3 RPG.

  • Well first off Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone.

Secondly I love the blog. It has helped me with information that my friends are too lazy to look up. It also has informed me on either purchase a game or not cuz of the videos. I also love the little contests that pop up from now and then (even though I never win anything! :( ). The blog is a daily read for me. Keep up the good work you guys. Cant wait to see whats up for next year now.

  • Keep the great exclusives coming guys. Flower and Killzone were amazing! I can’t wait for Heavy Rain and The Last Guardian (like to hear more about it by the way).

    Happy Holidays all!

  • I think the only thing I could complain about is that Canada got left out for various contests such as GOW 3, and I find it funny that someone commented that you guys should block people from other countries… stupid

    • It\’s legal complexities whenever anything involves Canada. It\’s not like we\’re sitting around deciding to leave you guys out for fun.

When we\’re doing basic giveaways, it usually means we can do US only – or not do them at all. I doubt people here in the US would like that 2nd option…

  • The announcement of uncharted 2 multiplayer

  • So who won the God of War Spartan Army Sweepstakes? You guys said by the end of the week.

  • i agree wholeheartedly with #58 i’m glad that you guys finally woke up from your slumber and decided to talk/promote more jrpgs.because, besides the shooter fans we are the most hardcore…
what i also liked was the video “documentary” that dylan did from japan. that was pretty interesting to see how close everything is…

this year also saw the dead of my 60 gb playstation. i just hope that my 160gb(now320gb)slim will have more durability than my rip launch system…

anyways,it seems that 2010 seems to be a pretty interesting year for the ps3 because we might see new stuff service related and of course we are surely gonna see alot of games too
so, all in all merry xmas and happy new year to all.

  • I wanted to vote for all the above, but that was not on of the choices. Anyways I love this blog, and I come on it a few times a day. Keep up the great work, and have a great Holiday and a Happy New Year! 2010 will be even better!!

  • I liked the fact that I could experience my favorite games (more specifically: Final Fantasies VII and VIII and both Wild Arms games) from the past generation in a new way thanks to being able to play them on the go.

I also like that I can do direct downloads to my PSP Memory Stick (or PS3 HDD) and play them without risking damaging the UMD.

Wait…there IS no UMD to direct downloads! Another great thing about the PSN!!

  • Happy Holidays to everyone at Sony, especially you Chris and Jeff who have made this an excellent Blog.

Also wishing all the PS3/PSP owners a very Happy Holiday.

Here’s hoping that 2010 will be another great year for the PS3 and Sony !

  • Thank you for a great year. I like the new price on the ps3. And i like the trophies that are now in all the games.

  • great year! 2010 will be better!

  • I want to hear more about Resonance of Fate and The Last Guardian.

  • My favorite moment(s) on the blog: plenty of chances to win the Uncharted 2 Fortune Hunter’s Edition… only I couldn’t, because I don’t live in the US. :'(

  • I just love that none of my postings show up on the Blog. Great way to keep your members happy by blocking their replies regardless if they are good or bad. Rubbish. Thanks Scrooges…

  • Playstation seems to have turned the corner this year, and really hit its stride, particularly with it’s PS3 offerings. Kudos for a stellar holiday sale this year. Not quite in Steam territory, but some gems on the cheap for sure.

Areas for growth (wait for it, I’m Canadian) include moving your collective butts on the video store and comic app.

    Also,nitpicky question time:

Is there any consideration being given to updating premium/dynamic themes for occasions when firmware updates (and new xmb icons) sometimes ruin the consistency of your purchase?

  • Without question it was the Uncharted 2 launch, specifically the moment where Amy Hennig announced to us that we were getting free, pre-release copies of UC2. I just remember the sense of amazement we all had and spontaneous, thunderous applause :)

  • Thanks again guys for the E3 meetup–still ranks as one of the most epic vacations I have ever had!!

  • Greatest Blog.US.Playstation.com moments?

    1. Updates on Firmware (more frequent please)
    2. Beta Code Give-a-way’s
    3. Interviews with Developers/Teams/Artist’s
    4. Every day of the year how you guys actually listen to us and make changes for us the customer! (Even if we have more gripes then praises here on the interweb.)

  • I’d like to hear from Vigil Games about DARKSIDERS in 2010 if possible.

Other than that, it was a great year and next is looking good too. Thanks PSBlog staff, this is easily my most visited website on a daily basis.

  • The revealing of Sony’s marketing capaign of IT DOES EVERYTHING. The first time we were able to see Kevin Butler denying that the PS3 is $299 was on this very blog.

    “He hates Candles too!”

    “COME ON!”

  • i was very happy with the amount of psOne classics added, and i went overboard with buying god only knows how much since i got my psp go. i have a question, i don’t know if u are the right person and if u can’t answer, that’s fine: is there any chance of parasite eve 1 and 2 coming to the ps store at any point in the future especially with the eventual release of the 3rd Birthday on PSP. There are so many fans of that series, especially the first game with its epic story, gameplay system, and of course the soundtrack. I would also like to see Gex: Enter the Gecko, Bloody Roar 2, as well as Resident Evil: Survivor and Dino Crisis 2, I’m guessing they’ll eventually appear since their previous games did. Sorry for being this long and have a merry xmas and a happy new year. Thank u

  • also if u guys can in the future, when downloading games and other media off of the PS store, can we have the ability of playing games or at least listening to our music on our psp while we wait for the media to download, the xbox 360 is able to do that and if this suggestion some how comes true, that be great, especially with media with a long download time.

  • Jeff tell Capcom to hook us up with some Mega Man 10 avatars when the game comes out! PLEASE!

  • more motion controller news plz, i loved the 3 videos that were posted about it here a few months ago, we need more of those.

  • u guys need 2 fix this blog i still cant watch the videos on my ps3 so i didnt vote for u guys n u still won humbuggery 4 all the ps blog staff fis it ASAP then mayb ill vote 4 u guys next year

  • BOOM! Best Ad yet!

Great job guys the last few years have been a wild ride and can’t wait to see what’s in store next year.

BTW To the Higher Ups, Please Don’t make us pay for X-Game Chat. I have friends that can’t pay for the srv that’s why they bought the PS3 and we have all been waiting for that service which really should have been done since day one.

  • One more this Like in the COD:MW2 where you have your Titles and stuff why not make a customizer on the PS3 with tons of stickers and stuff.

Sort of like Modnation and LBP and let us make our own? It can take the place of the gamers card and that color bar we have now.

It would only show when you are viewing the persons info so it doesn’t have to load right away.

Just don’t charge for it, make the tool and keep it free but you can also sell some made by game companies. Like the way you have done with Themes, just you supply the stickers from games and different things that way no one does anything naughty.

  • list your top three, desert-island, favorite games of the year,

    1. Demons Soul
    2. Fallout 3
    3. Uncharted 2

    GOTY Hands Down “Uncharted 2”

  • My favorite post was the MLB 09 The show predicting the Phillies to beat the Yankees in the World series. Of course my Yankees proved MLB 09, Jimmy Rollins ,and Jeff wrong by taking the series in 5. That was really sweet ;-)

oh and Jeff accused me of being a Mets fan on twitter, I’m still waiting for my apology lol

  • sorry made a mistake, the Yankees took the series in 6

  • To Chris, Jeff, everyone at Sony, ALL of the Devs who worked their butts off this year(Naughty Dog, Insomniac, Sucker Punch, Guerrilla Games, just to name a few), THANK YOU for making this year, not only one of the best years in playstation’s history, but in GAMING!!! :D

  • I liked when the God of War III Ultimate Edition was ( finally :) ) announced.

What a great year for the blog!

  • Favorite moment: Winning the Mashable Open Web Awards (it made signing up for Twitter worthwhile).

    What I hated: Whiny Canadians!

  • Favorite blog moment of 2009 would have to be simply all the great announcements and video debuts that have come through the blog as well as the E3 coverage that you guys had. Great 2009 overall, hopefully 2010 is even better.

  • My favourite moment just became the Claudia and Emily video!!

    Those women are both gorgeous!

    Happy Holidays from Canada!

  • My favorite part of ’09 is where Jeff tells me i can has his living room tv since he got a new one for the holidays,.. o_O

  • I really must say, you guys who work on the blog have one of the best jobs at the company. I mean you guys get to go look for news and upcoming tidbits that all of us Sony maniac’s want to know. How awesome is that!!! And you guys do a really swell job. So keep up the good work, and Merry Christmas.

I wish more of the 3rd party developers used the blog and Official Sony forums. It seems like during a beta you can’t keep the developers off the forum, then once a game is out they are “non-existent”. Why is it that a studio has to go through someone such as “Abigale”, when they have their own accounts and can’t so much as even post on the forums anymore? I really want more connection to all developers and community staff, we love to feel like we actually know you guys!!

  • Chris, Jeff…have to say I’ve loved watching the evolution of the blog over the year. I love the Facebook and Twitter integration (more ways for me to read up on what’s WHAT), but most of all I love the Eye-Chat sessions. That said:

    1) Get PS3eye’s in the hands of all of your Developer/Publisher partners. Watching some of those companies using old-school eyeToy’s is rather painful when your feed looks so incredible.

    2) MORE eye interviews. I know it’s new but again, I love this aspect of the blog and would love to see far more regularity…perhaps weekly eye interviews as the industry demands (dependent on game and developer availability of course.)

    3) Hire ME!

  • Other….. My favorite event of 09 was Chris Morrel joining the team (I think that was this year). He’s hot!!!! And does a good job interviewing people to boot. He’s a 1-2 combo.

My least favorite event on the blog was the videos no longer working on PS3 and no longer being able to post now from PS3 (though I found a bit of an exploit to be able to post now, but it’s annoying and takes a while ;( .)

Day 1 buys of 2010 for me are
    God of War 3
    Heavy Rain
    GT5
    (either) FF13 or WKC
    RAGE
MORTAL KOMBAT 9 !!!!! (still a whole year for this one though)

Possible Day 1 buys if I have extra $, or when I can get them a bit cheaper
    Mod Nation Racers
    Battlefield BC2
    Super SF4
    CRYSIS 2
(either) FF13 or WKC, whichever I don’t buy day 1.

And I really want FF14, it looks just incredible. But I’m not that into paying subscription fees to play. We’ll have to see.

Anyway, aside from the stuff not working on PS3’s browser anymore, which is my ONLY browser, I love you guys on the blog and everything you do for the PlayStation community. Merry Christmas (or whatever you celebrate) and Happy New Year!!

  • Favorites of ’09
    1) PS3 slim (Price cut and new system body made me buy it)
    2) Uncharted 2 (Best Game EVER)
    3) GT5 news
    4) Modnation Racers News
    5) PSP Go
    6) Lots of NEW games on the PSN for PSP!!!

  • my favorite announcement was the god of war collection reveal

  • My favourite blog post had to be that one you guys did when you interviewed the people behind the musical scores of some of my favourite games. It’s things like that I love to see on the blog. Also happy holidays to everyone!
