We’re excited to see all the creative juices stirring around our recent update to the LittleBigPlanet MacArthur Foundation Game Changers Competition. Looking through the forums/comments/e-mails, there were a lot of questions so we decided to put together a quick FAQ to set the record straight.
Submissions
- The official submission page just went live so head on over and submit your ideas.
- One submission per applicant
- Highly recommended: Within the brief product description, include your PSN ID and previously created levels so we can reference your past levels as part of the judging.
About Budgets
- On the submission page, there is a section for proposed budgets. For the LittleBigPlanet Game Changers Competition, the awards have been pre-budgeted to $5,000 for each level. Depending on your proposal, you could propose a series of levels, say 10, and increase the proposed budget to a maximum of $50,000 ($5k per level). So please budget your LBP levels accordingly.
Eligibility
- Along with the updated site is a new Eligibility Page.
- This competition is a global competition, so all LBP’ers can enter – but note, special rules apply for applicants outside the US so be sure to visit the Eligibility Page above.
- Main applicants must be 18 years of age or over, but you CAN be below the minimum age and still contribute as personnel to the project.
If you have any further questions, feel free to chime in on the comments and we’ll work with the MacArthur Foundation to clarify any confusion.
Hope this helps.

So I played the demo for LBP but it wasn’t that fun. Is it me or have I just haven’t played enough of the game?

@3: You just haven’t played enough of the game. It’s a game that’s community-driven for platformer-based level design.

Hello! My name is Josh Hughes–I already submitted into the Game Changers so I can make LBP levels–but I didn’t know I should include my PSN ID (Zookey) –and I can’t update the proposal—what should I do? Could you guys forward my PSN ID to the people doing the submission considerations? Thank you very much!

Sony has the worst customer service in the consumer electronics industry. Bar none. I bought a PS2 and recently made the mistake of buying a PSP Go. I should have learned my lesson the first time. The Sony websites are the least intuitive and consumer friendly in the industry. Human customer service is not available. Just try to get on-line help. It doesn’t exist. Trying calling a phone rep during peak hours. You won’t get a call back. You might get an email….someday. No wonder you guys lost your ass last year.

lol@keh357, it’s like someone’s mom wandered in here complaining about how Sony doesn’t have a help line for telling her where to plug the power cord in.

I’ve been having a really bad problem with LBP freezing on me. It happens pretty much whenever I try to play more than one level in a row whether I’m online or not, which is really making it unplayable. This is the only game that freezes on my ps3 so it isn’t the system and the disc has no scratches or anything. Is anyone else having this issue? Are there any plans to fix it?

WHERE THE HELL IS CO-OP LEVEL EDITING, YOU HAVE LEFT ME DOWN MASSIVELY MEDIAMOLECULE, YOU’VE JUST BECOME GREEDY FOR THE MONEY YOU GET FROM THOSE SHODDY COSTUMES YOU RELEASE, YOU’VE EVEN BECOME TOO LAZY TO REINVENT THE HOLIDAY ONES. I WAS STUPID ENOUGH TO FORK OUT $40 ON LBP DLC, WON’T BE MAKING THIS MISTAKE AGAIN.

@ #3,
YES you definitely need to play the game more. I’m not the best creator but as I get into building my own levels it draws me in even more and more. The game has so much to offer and the creativity of the community is absolutely astounding.

Meh. I LOVE LBP, so I reeeeally hate to say it, but the game is seriously starting to bore me in the same way that GTAIV did… Oversaturation and lack of 1st party support. Inasmuch as GTAIV neglected the PS3 players with their DLC and custom soundtracks, MM seems to be neglecting the players by not offering more content that THEY have produced. I never even play anymore unless I have friends over or need something to play with one of my lady friends. We need more content that isn’t crap made by fans.
