White Knight Chronicles Ships Today!

185 10

You’d think this day couldn’t come soon enough, and here it is! Today, White Knight Chronicles is officially shipping in the US and we’d like to mark this occasion with a brand new launch trailer:

We’d also like to update you on a few things White Knight Chronicles as you begin your brand new adventures!

  1. Many of you have had questions about clarifying micro-transactions in White Knight Chronicles. The Georama will have parts that you can create and parts that you can choose to purchase using micro-transactions to further enhance your space. These are by no means mandatory purchases, as there is PLENTY for you to work with in the game itself, but an option for those of you looking to take your Georama spaces even further.
  2. For those of you who are going to be investing significant time in your characters, there will be an option to remake them without having to start the game over by purchasing a special key through the PlayStation Store for only $4.99. This will allow you to redesign your avatar at any point and keep all that hard work you’ve put in intact. This feature will go live this Thursday on the PlayStation Store.

And that’s about it! We hope to see you online and are looking forward to seeing what you put together in the Georama!

  • I am pretty psyched for this game…..BUT WHY SHIP DATE vs. STREET DATE GGRRRR #@$#!

  • After getting all caught up in being annoyed over DLC I forgot to mention this is the best trailer for the game I have seen and fully expect to see it on TV frequently for the next couple weeks.

  • Guys, I understand how people can be mad about this DLC, but it’s not a deal breaker. Just make sure you take your time with your avatar when creating him/her. Some RPG’s don’t let you edit your character after creating. Japan players had the same thing happen to them, when the DLC came out there too. Whether you agree or not, just take your time.

And it probably would have been easier to say “hey there’s no edit button after you make your char,” but it is what it is. Just look forward to the games release tomorrow and have fun making your georama spaces, I look forward to visiting them.

  • Everyone complaining about the $5 key to re-customize your avatar – you’re all silly.

First of all, it’s NOT mandatory to download this. You can create your avatar at the beginning of the game, and if you don’t like it shortly after that, you can start over and re-create it from scratch. If you’re halfway through the game and suddenly realize you want to look different, that’s what the $5 is for.

Honestly, how many other games have you played where you weren’t able to edit your character after you started? MMOs in particular are very guilty of this. WoW is an exception and they charge you a premium fee to do this outside of changing minor details like hairstyle and colour. For the huge variances in detail you can get in WKC, $5 is not a huge fee, and that’s there to discourage players from constantly changing their look as they play online.

If you took the time to look outside your basement-dwelling windows once in a while, you’d see there’s a reason for this and it’s perfectly acceptable. The game is fine on it’s own as $60 without the need to buy the re-design key. Just make your main character as cool as you like the first time around so you can avoid the need for it.

  • Should’ve been IN stores today, I HATE when games aren’t street dated. Damn you SONY!!!

    /crying :(

  • I was wondering if the UK version in particular contains the Italian language as well.

  • any chance of adding Japanese voice with English subtitles via an update
not being funny but Japanese RPG’s sound terrible with English voice overs

not released in UK till end of the month start working on the update pretty please :D

  • I was really looking forward to picking this game up today. Guess I’ll have to wait until tomorrow or the day after :(

Regarding the DLC, if it was a feature that’s been completed and on disc, then why charge extra for it. You’re not charging extra for voice chat. If you wanted a deterrent from people constantly changing their avatars, you could have made the price ridiculously high using in game currency. The way it is now, it seems like you will lose sales and respect because of a poor decision. But that’s my opinion. I’m still really looking forward to the game and hopefully won’t be in need to re-customization, but your announcement just left a bad taste in my mouth.

  • Okay first off, im reading about all these haters who dont this $5 dollar thing.
Square Enix or Sony isn’t making you buy anything, unless you really want to change the appearance of your avatar.
Like seriously, you cant base a whole game based, on one bad thing. Like I dont judge people by the way their hair looks, im not going to be, wow that guy is a creeper, or he probably has no friends.
If you dont like it, dont buy the $5 code.
And if your complaining about $5 then get a job. Im also surprised you have the money to buy it, if your worried about $5.

  • I personally think that the $5 dollar fee to change the way your avatar looks is a disgrace.
This isn’t a full mmo so by no means should we have to pay for this feature, it’s just a failure in so many ways. This game came out a year ago in Japan and it seems that the devs have chosen to be very selective in their listening to the fans. I mean if you expect people to shell out $60 dollars for a game that is one year old and only has a few new glorified features then there is something wrong. Nevertheless, I will probably still get the game but will have to spend a while with the character editor because I refuse to pay for something that should be free.

  • This sounds like a patch, but a 5 dollor one rather than dlc. I wonder what would happen if u.s never buys this game, would the industry listen to us then? I agree u can’t please them all, so here’s the secret….make a poll then u know what we want when we pay 59.99+ tax 65.00 + the patch you only use once $70.00 dollors..plus the delay. Not worth it.

  • Yep. DLC transactions are abused heavily by game companies. Too bad that it will take some time before they realize this. EA is notorious for putting up segments of games as DLC rather than leaving it there intact without charging.

    @110 This isn’t a Square Enix game.

Also, $5 is a lot, even for someone, like me, making over $20/hr. Indeed I have the money, but in no way is it worth it in the long run. Buying it helps feed the industry bad marketing methods.

Heh, this reminds me of Street Fighter IV, where they charged money for alternate costumes that should be there in the first place.

  • I am a bit irritated at the fact that I do have to wait to pick the game out tomorrow since I have to drive 30 mins each way to get to the store for it, and the fact when I drove for my game today and came home with nothing and now I will need to do the same thing tomorrow. But on the other hand I will have it ASAP tomorrow and be spending an entire day off of work to play until I no longer can lol. So my complaints might have been heard but with having the game soon enough I am still a happy camper.

  • I was looking for this game until someone finally told me that it was just the ship date. Now with all this micro transaction junk I’m reconsidering. Lots of good games this month, I can wait for a price drop on this game.

  • @ ksncobra – then you will be missing out… your loss … and frankly that’s retarted. The dlc is “OPTIONAL” do you fools whining like little babies everyweek not get the concept of optional? You people do the same thing every week whine and cry like you are entilted to everything. I am willing to be most of you doing that are spoiled kids without jobs who have to ask mommy and daddy for game money. Same people who complain about a game being $10 on psn.. It irritates me to no end. I have been waiting for over a year for this game and to hear people bash it becuase they don’t like an optional dlc code… EA has been doing this for over a year at a much more aggressive point. It’s also common practice in MMO’s if you people ever played any of them. Being around gaming for 26 of my 31 years, I know the meaning of “Optional” in that it won’t effect your game one bit. IF you don’t like your character you should remake it before you go off adventuring if it means that much to you. Most rPGs don’t even have a feature to re-edit your char and if they do they are mmos where you have to pay a fee.

  • To the people complaining about ship date…. yeah it sucks but is this the first game you ever bought? I ask this as it happens with most Tuesday releases. You guys acting like this is something new and to the fools who are bashing the game because of it and saying you are boycotting…gtho of here…and stop trolling you weren’t going to get the game to begin with. Damn haters… jeesh.. Just once I would like to see some positive comments! Why does the internet always bring out all the haters and bashers?

  • You people better buy this game or else… I don’t know what but I will think of something!! I want the sequel to come here. I am sick and tired of JRPGS not getting translated because of people like you guys who boycott every lintel freakn thing, looking for excuses not to buy something. I want the sequel do you here me people… Now go buy the game NOW! Stop the bs and pick it up! I don’t want this to be like Namco with Tales of Vesperia where they don’t release the NA Ps3 version… or SE with last remnant.

PlayStation needs to be the home of RPGS again like it was the last 2 gens.. The problem now is half of you are trolling rrod owning bots who could care less, and don’t buy the games.

  • @ArcticArctos – Finally someone who has some brains left… way to tell the others how dumb they are acting.. They don’t get what “optional” means and act like this is the first game to do this.

  • @ycole11- you can make the character as many times as you like… you don’t have to buy the key (only if you want to change it mid game, most games don’t even let you do that so its an “optional” bonus not a hindrance)….great reading comprehension you have there..lol

  • I’ve been waiting for this game!
I’m excited to play it online as well. add me up for the online questing guys! :)

  • lol @ this whole discussion. Wont be picking this up

  • Negative on the choice of DLC. I’ll wait for this game to hit the bargain bin.

Back to Valkyria Chronicles for me.

  • i really think all the complaints about a 5.00 charge and micro transactions are just plain ignorant.its not like you need it to make the game enjoyable or to further your progress.we have been waiting for this game for some time.it was nice of level 5 to bring this game stateside.in most cases we lose out because most companies wont localize good games.are you guys just complaining about it because no one listens to your cynicism and you think this place is your soapbox?
this is by no means a complaint.i just wish there was just a street date so we dont get confused.nowadays there are midnight openings just about once a month.it just would be nice to get one date for consumers.
thank you sony and level 5.i know i am just one person, but i appreciate bringing this game to north america.

  • Never in my life have I felt the need to redesign a game avatar, because it’s not normally an option. I don’t even give my Fallout 3 character a free haircut. Why pay for plastic surgery? That’s just weird.

Because I have no need for this extra feature, I choose not to waste energy being upset that it exists. I think it’s a silly decision because obviously $5 anything will cause an kneejerk backlash.

I’m not aware if Level-5 has ever offered DLC to the western market before, so I’m sorry that this may become their Horse Armor. But even Horse Armor made money, and there’s no such thing as bad publicity.

Akihiro Hino is a smart dude. If it turns out to be a mistake, I doubt he’ll make it twice.

  • Damn babies. This whining is ridiculous. Maybe living in NYC I can’t feel the pain of someone who “wasted” their time going to the game store thinking they’d buy the game. For one factor, if you didn’t pre-order it, the chances of getting this game are really really really low. So anyone saying “price drop” or “bargain bin”… good luck… this isn’t one of those games.

I’ll be buying this and hey if for some reason after I’ve gone through half the game I suddenly think “My guy looks dumb”, then spending $5 to be allowed to change him seems logical. I mean… sure in games like Saint’s Row you can spend in game money and get plastic surgery, but thats not something LEVEL-5 was thinking on. They’re thinking…we have this huge customization, build your perfect character and play him/her through the game. Wanna have a different looking character, well, you’d probably want to build said character up in stats as well. If not? For a measly $5 we’ll let you break in and change him.

I swear gamers just make me wonder all the time.

  • Thank you for WKC.

  • It seems a tad bit steep for a one use code(4.50 too steep). Just wait a few weeks before considering buying it. There might be a price cut.

Otherwise, looks good, Level 5 has been one of the more forward thinking developers for a fair while. Too bad it takes a year or so for their games to get here.
So SONY, WKC2 is in development apparently, follow SquareEnix lead and get crackin’.

  • Gamers make me wonder too.. wonder why they think paying $5 for a one-time edit button is reasonable.

Is it really that game-breaking to allow people to change up their character mid-play that they need to charge people to do it every single time they do it? I am buying the game regardless but I think they would have had a lot more of my respect if they included these options for free to say “thanks for buying the game” rather than just another way to rake in more cash.

  • I’ll pick this up tomorrow!

  • I don’t really get why so many whine about the stupid DLC thing…This is an OPTIONAL feature that doesn’t affect the game in the slightest. If you’re buying games to play barbie with your characters then i’m sorry but you deserve to pay the price.

There are much worse DLC out there, ones that affect gameplay and story.Be thankful that Level 5 doesn’t use those cheap tactics.

  • I’m so excited to pick up my copy tomorrow! Weird thing, I picked up the guide last week and it says nothing about unlocking any of the home features. It doesn’t even mention the trophies anywhere in the guide……weird.

If anyone is interested in joining a web community dedicated entirely to WKC, check out http://www.thegeorama.com

  • No Luck at Dallas, Irving, Grapevine, Richardson, and Plano, TX… Going to check wal-mart tonight…. if anyone got the game, post here!!!!!! =(

  • People need to just stop complaining about paying for it…just like people have said you don’t have to pay for it….but i am wondering if you pay 5 bucks for the key for any other character you make can you use the key and change them one time…or do you have to keep buying them? I love level 5 games and they make great games…I am hoping they make a Dark Cloud 3 and make the next white knight game and release it the same time…it sucks always getting things last….just like demons souls that game is a great game too

  • Great job on the game!

One question: Are we going to see more SCEA work with Level 5 on PS3 in the future, down the road like 5 years?

  • Hmmm its un-reasonable, But im not going to let this ruin my experiance by “not buying” the game… doing that it pathetic

(Cause come on, The game is still going to be Awesome! I hope to pick it up tomorrow)

4.99$ is alittle to much, is there a good reason for this? Also I hope after seeing this reaction, I hope that the additional quests are free (unless its a huge event quest series! that have something big going on) I like the micro Transactions. But this news of the price of re-due character DLC.. Is kinda isulting….

Don’t get me wrong Level 5 still has my support and gratitude for bringing WKC here, and I hope WKC doesn’t takes as long lol. Also They remain as one of my Favourite Devs

    Thanks Again! and can’t wait!

  • I have seen plenty of gameplay footage for this game on youtube which I find a reliable source…. I think it sucks when a game is to be released on a certain day only to find it’s to be released on another. Creates a lot of frustration.

So are there any gamers out there who are wanting Star Trek Online to be released for consoles? When will we get the pleasure to enjoy an awesome mmo on PS3?

  • That last sentence meant to say

“Don’t get me wrong Level 5 still has my support and gratitude for bringing WKC here, and I hope WKC 2 doesn’t takes as long lol. Also Level 5 still remains as one of my Favourite Devs.”

Also in the 2nd Please allow the created character to turn into a character Created Knight!!! online and offline! Now that I would pay for. Is there away to put it into the first game? At least in the online play?

Again can’t wait to play WKC!

  • @ jprice304

When DC Universe Online comes out :P Another game that I can’t wait for!

Man I hope WKC gets here tomorrow!

  • You know, I don’t have anything to complain about because I won’t be re-editing my character mid-game. If I want a new character, I can always start over for free. Have this pre-paid 100% and am looking forward to it. The people who are complaining obviously don’t comprehend how this is not a big deal.

And I say this as someone who will NOT buy Final Fantasy XIV because of the monthly fee that will have. This, however, I don’t have to buy it to enjoy the game, so I won’t. I’ll just make sure I design my character to my satisfaction.

  • P.S. If the addtional Quests are Free. Then I might even considering buying the Re-due DLC, and who knows i might buy it either way.
It doesn’t bother me that much, but please don’t pull a Bandai Namco… lol :P

  • @ clupula668
I know what you mean. It optional but still, alittle cruely priced ;P, But again it doesn’t bother me much.

See you online? mine is paid off 100% too. and I can’t wait to get my hands on it…Tomorrow hopefully….

  • @midnightshade, Sorry if you misunderstood what I was saying. I know that I can make a character as many times as I want to but the stats wont carry over. There lies the problem; as I said before I don’t agree with the choice to charge for such a feature.
By the way, my comprehension is fine. I wrote my post assuming that everyone else knew that the charge was to redesign your character mid game.
I understand that we are not being forced to redesign our characters, but I just do not agree with being charged for it. The fact that we have to pay to do so does not take away anything from the game but it would have been nice if it was just included in the whole package considering the long wait.
And another thing, I can’t think of any other jrpg that has the same or similar online mechanics except phantasy star, so just because many other games don’t allow you to redesign your character mid game doesn’t mean this game shouldn’t and it doesn’t mean we should have to pay for it.
Don’t get me wrong I have no problem paying for dlc but I just can’t wrap my head around why it costs $4.99 just to change the way your character looks.

  • Whenever I get the game I’m sure i will enjoy it. jrpgs are my favorite genre so I will be putting logging of hours. I was just a little disappointed that instead of offering some substantial dlc, they are offering something that I believe should be packed in.
Anyway i hope you can see where I’m coming from and I didn’t mean to write such a long post.

  • i wouldn’t complain about the remake DLC because it’s optional and has no effect to gameplay. and i would like to remind you how dragon’s age had a gimped inventory system and the only way to get a storage chest was to buy a DLC — now, that’s a rip off.

going to the store tomorrow.. they better have a copy

  • hey they are at least not charging you 20 to change the avatars name like blizzard does with WoW!

  • wow….it the same thing in japan psn store where you need to pay to edit your character for like half year and none of them whining yet you guys complaint?

It makes perfect sense as like playing mmorpg where you set your avatar and that avatar will join with the main character from start to the end of the journey…and you expect your avatar change hair color, from skin to fat along the journey?

when this game release in japan they complaint about the lack of avatar edit and the japanese demand it thus they release it after the game was released half year.

I have no problem on designing my avatar just like in any mmorpg where i dont need to edit my avatar forever….I dono about you guys….didnt do research, lack of creative in avatar design? or maybe something else in your mind…..

  • The moment that I found out that the US version would not have the Japanese dialogue it dropped this game from one of my “must get when it comes out” to “undecided” lists. It went from “undecided” to “skipping it” lists when you just announced that in order to customize the avatar “ONCE,” I will have to fork out 5 bucks. I guess this is one way that Sony makes its money its after deciding not to charge for access to use the PlayStation Network.

  • Yeah, this game was nowhere today, hopefully I’ll have better luck tomorrow.

And yeah, the micro transactions are becoming more and more integrated in games I’ve noticed. $1 for some chalk in hustle kings?! $5 to redesign a character?! Just to name a few. I can see charging for -additional- things, but something as simple as editing an avatar costing FIVE dollars . . . wow.

  • I just paid my copy off at Gamestop what i don’t understand is
    1. Why the hell did they say the game was in stores on the 2ND and it isn’t
    2. Why everybody is complaining about 5 dollars I mean..its 5 dollars.. I can see 20 but 5…really guys lets not get cheap this generation if you planned on spending 60 dollars for WKC and your crying over 5 dollars for DLC i cant wait till some DLC comes out thats 10 people are gonna start killing them selves over that LMAO.

  • @ #117 midnightshade: You always give the best rants! I agree with you. Exspensive DLC is nothing new. Look at those pointless Street Fighter IV costumes. A lot of the Burnout Paradise DLC seems pointless to me. LittleBigPlanet has new costumes in the store every month, ( I have most of the LBP DLC, guess what! No one forced me to buy it.) in fact, they’ll have WKC costumes soon.
Sure, $5.00 is a little exspensive, one more dollar and you can buy a PSOne Classic, but who cares! It’s the price of a fast food meal.
My advice to anyone who doesn’t want to spend the $5.00 is to take a good amount of time designing your character.
I’m really looking forward to this game, unfortunately, I won’t be able to buy it til this weekend.
