White Knight Chronicles Ships Today!

185 10

You’d think this day couldn’t come soon enough, and here it is! Today, White Knight Chronicles is officially shipping in the US and we’d like to mark this occasion with a brand new launch trailer:

We’d also like to update you on a few things White Knight Chronicles as you begin your brand new adventures!

  1. Many of you have had questions about clarifying micro-transactions in White Knight Chronicles. The Georama will have parts that you can create and parts that you can choose to purchase using micro-transactions to further enhance your space. These are by no means mandatory purchases, as there is PLENTY for you to work with in the game itself, but an option for those of you looking to take your Georama spaces even further.
  2. For those of you who are going to be investing significant time in your characters, there will be an option to remake them without having to start the game over by purchasing a special key through the PlayStation Store for only $4.99. This will allow you to redesign your avatar at any point and keep all that hard work you’ve put in intact. This feature will go live this Thursday on the PlayStation Store.

And that’s about it! We hope to see you online and are looking forward to seeing what you put together in the Georama!

  • 5 dollars to make over your character once? That is utterly ridiculous and offensive to PS3 owners. I paid 600 dollars for a PS3 so that I could have awesome exclusives like this. Now you want me to pay 5 dollars for something so ridiculous? If you would have told me this a few days earlier I would have seriously considered canceling my preorder. Guess that is why you kept this from us till now. I hope you guys at Level 5 and Sony are reading this. I am VERY unhappy with this decision. Please do not do stuff like this in the future.

  • This entire discussion reminds me of this: http://stuffgeekslove.wordpress.com/2008/11/04/boycotts/

    and this: http://stuffgeekslove.wordpress.com/2009/02/03/hatred/

    because it’s all true.

  • @Nakiro
Me and my brother had all characters in Dragon Quest VIII on 99th level. Beat that! :-D

  • Why wasnt there a Kevin Butler commercial for this game, does Sony want this game to fail?????? or are you saving your cash for commercials for Heavy Rain and God of War III, at least tell me you have those, Sony also needs one for Final Fantasy XIII, to show it for PS3, and is there any truth to God of War III having a spot on the Superbowl, if not, then why? Dante’s Inferno has one, why not GOWIII?

  • #156:

Because Sony needs to advertise games with wide appeal. Not little back-room games like WKC.

And they need to advertise games that look amazing. Not games with PS2-style graphics and sad, last generation animation.

WKC has 2003 written all over it.

  • This game is still MIA in all NYC stores. Anyone on here found the game in stock today?

  • @ 151

People have the right to be smart with their cash, especially when games nowadays cost $65 including taxes. In reality, certain games doesn’t even deserve that price point. (I’m looking at you Bayonetta, MAG, Warhawk and Socom.)

  • @158

My local Gamestop told me yesterday that they would have it today, so I’ll find out later today. I really hope they have it today since it was SPPOSED to be in yesterday.

  • The longer I wait the more I become unsure if I want to give this game a chance.
The 6.0 from the GameSpot review is really making we question this title. The part that bugs me from the review is the fact that they say the game is so easy that enemies are hard pressed to kill even one member of the party let alone the entire group.
Anyway I have a few question for the devs or whoever answers these. (hope they are still reading)

    1. Can you dual wield? (2 swords)
    2. Can you turn of the menu that displays all actions at the top left corner of the screen?
    3. When playing online, if you fail the mission do you still get to keep all items gathered and exp gained?

    Thanks.

  • wow… that dlc is sure scary… shouldnt never be like that.. shouldnt there be a law to make this illegal?

  • This game sucks like garbo. Sorry, had to say it.

  • Wow, this game has gotten some disappointing scores. I hope level five acknowledges the complaints and makes the sequel much better.

  • Holy crap, IGN gave this game 5.1/10 “mediocre”. For once a delay worked on my favor. I’m so glad I didn’t get to fork out $65 for this game. Again, thanks for the shipping date funk.

  • This is pure [DELETED]. level 5 should be ashamed of itself. $5 for redesignign ur avatar but also each time u wanna redesign it. r u kidding. First ubisoft wants to charge extra for what they admit was supposed to be in the game (prince of persia, ac2), then capcom wants to charge us for friggin costumes(sfIV), then capcom again wants to charge us to unlock content already on the disk (RE5). i mean seriously, microtransactions are ruining games. for this these companies should just give away the games for free and sell all the friggin dlc they want. we already pay $60. thats enough. stop ripping off the customer or dont [DELETED] when ur game doesnt sell. seriously how can they justify all this dlc crap. especially if it releases the same day or somehow before the game if its ready include it on the disc. we pay enough for the [DELETED].

  • Now I wish Mass Effect 2 was on the PS3. Come on Sony, make it happen.

  • 5.1 from IGN…
Star Ocean 4 is looking better and better.

  • Yeah, I checked all around for the reviews. The 2 that I trust most are IGN and Gamespot: 5.1 and 6.0 repectively. Although others such as GameInformer and such gave it an 8 or a B-, so things seem to be promising at least. Reviews are really just a matter of opinion, but the things that the reviewers were pointing out are nothing that a patch can’t fix (C’mon Sony!) so I may still give this game a chance. All the other games I plan on getting aren’t even out yet. So I’m SERIOUSLY keeping my fingers crossed for this one. Online should be fun at least.

  • Wow – your right about the reviews – this game is getting slaughtered. I’m pretty sure I will wait or even pass on this title. Dragon Age is still keeping me well entertained. (And it came with some free dlc).

  • Just started playing this today, and already put about 4 or 5 hours in. Do I believe this game is a 5.1 on a 10 point rating scale? Not a chance. This game is a blast! I would easily give it an 8.5 or a 9. Online quests are fun, and the voice chat makes grouping with others very enjoyable. The 5 dollars for the makeover is really not a big deal. If you play WoW or any game like that you’re easily looking at 25 dollars! Plus, just make your character how you want them to look at the beginning. Story doesn’t seem bad so far, I’m actually really enjoying it. My two cents….don’t trust the reviews and don’t bash the game based off of reviews. Try actually playing it first. Thank you Level 5, because this is EXACTLY what I’ve been waiting for on the PS3.

  • Stupid Best Buy didn’t even the game in their system when I went to get a copy. Now their website says it’s on back order. Maybe my GameStop will have it…

  • The reviews are providing a little Karma to the developers for their ridiculous DLC con.

Hope this game sinks like a rock…

  • Yea good work people going by scores and not actually playing the game. I have the game now and I can understand why the reviewer ryan clements doesint like the combat. Its like FF12 but with just some difference like battle chips and combos and I think ryan didint like ff12 so yea. So far im liking it feels like a 7-7.5. The review feels way to harsh.

  • i want to buy the game but they so smart that remove the jp theme song…..why they cant left it there instead replace with instrumental?

  • It seems like you guys have gone through amazing lengths to make the game sound as unattractive as possible…

Taking it so long to localize, removing the original audio, micro-transactions… and to top it of, $5.00 for a one-time edit button.

And the official metacritic of 6.4 is really off-putting. Considering they are throwing 9’s for whatever crap comes out, when gamespot dishes a 6, I tend to get worried.

  • I agree with the posters who expected Japanese Voices to be included. Everyone knows that a good portion of the fans of this kind of niche JRPG prefer the original voice acting with subtitles. This would be easy to include on Blu-Ray for a PS exclusive. I can’t imagine there is any prohibitive cost involved since scripts were made for the new voice acting anyway. Please include this as DLC for no more than the $5 you’re questionably asking for the edit key. Thanks. Looking forward to my copy of WKC as soon as Amazon delivers it.

  • @Souledge94 – You have a point, but…

Crap (expensive) DLC + Bad Review + Full Price + No Demo (Is there a demo?) = No Sale.

(Even though I am an RPG fan)

  • 5 dollars to redesign your character that’s kinda MMO price and a rip off. At the same time though it’s either that or restart the game. Is the time more valuable or the money more valuable? That’s up for a player to decide.

It’d be nice if they dropped it to like 1.50-2.00 or if they made it to where the 5.00 key was reuseable.

That just means I don’t spend money on the microtransactions. Just like in WoW when I decided that 20 dollars was too much for a server change. I just made a new character.

So people quit crying and make your own choices. It’s a great game.

  • Oh and the reviews… DON’T LISTEN TO THEM. THE REVIEWERS DO NOT UNDERSTAND WTF A JRPG IS!

I expect that NO JRPG is going to get higher than a 7 metacritic at this stage other than games like Disgaea. Reviewers don’t know WTF they are talking about and if you pay that much attention to reviews, you’re an idiot anyway.

  • this game is getting bad reviews.
    ign and 1up scores it a 5/10

  • I played the game today and I must say the dub sucks and sounds nothing like the original characters. Who don’t you sell us the original voices in a DLC? That would be more reasonable than selling us character re-customizations…

  • *why

  • gametrailers gave it a 7.6. Kinda spot on. Fun game.

  • Although I mostly disagree with them, I’m glad the critics have been panning this game. It would have shined a year ago, like it was supposed to. But you decided to wait for no good reason and now you’re going to pay the price. If you survive, maybe you’ll learn something. If…

I guess we can go ahead and forget about a localization for WKC2.

  • this sucks man I went to my local best buy to buy this game found out that we don’t get it here til the 9th of feb………..c’mon i live in the U.S. lol we shouldn’t have these delays :p

  • lol ign i saw that reviewer complaining about outdated battle system and graphic that don’t compare with a game thats not even out yet, cod mw2 felt and played like cod 1-4 didn’t see them complain bout outdated controls. i don’t listen to reviews anymore since it’s basically one mans perspective on the game i’d rather listen to the majority of the people who bought it an played it’s reviews over one “professional”

  • 5$ to customize your avatar and no Japanese voices.
I was excited at first, but there’s no way in hell I’m buying this game now.

  • Let me just say that this game is REALLY good; not perfect but good. The reviewers that gave this game a low score(IGN and Gamespot) were really on something or paid off by Microsoft to bash this game. I would say this game is a mix of FF12 (single player) and FF11(online play) so if you’ve played those then you get the idea. It’s a JRPG for goodness sake, so the style of play is going to be what it is. Online play is a BLAST and can really take up most of your time. Pros and cons of course but DEFINITELY give WKC a look!!! Also, for those of you who are worried about the DLC, just spend a good amount of time on ur avatar until its perfect..thats what I did. THANK YOU LEVEL 5 & SONY!!!

  • WKC is really getting beat down in the reviews. I was gonna get the game, but when GS, IGN, 1UP, and Game Informer all give you mediocre/bad reviews, it’s best to save your money for something else. Especially when a game cost $60. Hope Heavy Rain won’t be a disappointment like this. :(

  • Are you guys going to release the original Japanese voices as a DLC or not? I want to know before I buy this.

  • The five bucks isn’t that bad. Especially compared to some of the georama stuff. That looks like a bit of BS.

If they really wanted to make it a seller, they would allow for specific races to be unlocked with the creator(like the bonus costumes in Dark Cloud 2 and RG). They could also patch in some fancy coats and extra areas/quests.

Now as for doubts about the quality of the game, you have to ask anyone who has played the game. While it was bashed when it came out in Japan for its so-so online. There seems to be heavy improvements. The voice chat really adds to the fun.
Ask a friend who has it to try it’s online mode and you’ll see the real meat of it.

  • don’t listen to the reviews, if you’re into JRPG’s and online play, THIS IS THE GAME.

only level 22 with georama at level 3 and i have TONS to look forward to.

graphics aren’t great but that’s compensated by the huge boss’s and battles with them.

user interface takes getting used to but other than that it’s fine.

don’t like the $5 to redo your avatar-do him right the first time…..

  • also the online play is where it’s at, building up my town has been a blast so far, sythning weapons and having to find the things neccisary for them through online questing is EXACLTY what i wanted.

my plan now is to beat the game, unlcok all the quests then play purely online, it is that much fun and there is that much to do.

  • I should have purchased this game used. I didn’t know it was going to be treated like a cheap Korean MMO. What’s next, charging $0.99 for heal potions?

  • I seriously hope they reconsider the way the Makeover ticket works. I would be happy to pay 4.99 for unlimited customizations, but every time I decide I want to change it? No way.

If it is too taxing on the servers to have people change it constantly make it a once a day or once every 72 hours, some kind of reasonable constraint. Because $5 is plenty of money for getting this feature available to be used as much as a player wants.

  • Not sure where to ask this, but I’ve found a bug in the game where some NPCs in the town of Baccea have some of their conversation text missing. Someone look into this?
