  • You know what? I like the option of a video store and all. But for the cost of the stuff to rent/buy, I can go buy/rent the physical copies for cheaper at the store. I can even get the actual dvd cheaper than you guys sell the SD movie download. Sometimes the BR disc is on sale cheaper than the SD download is.

  • LoST is on PSN!
“See you in another life brutha”

  • interesting

  • Where is optional subtitle for these videos??? Or do I hear you right: NEVER in this next-gen lifespan…??? Come on, it’s not fair to us that we are not accessible for this. Find a way to provide us your service, please?

  • Soooo, Any idea when us Canadian are to get the store as well. Got a blizzard going on outside and I’m rather bored with a 50 in my account. what to spend it on? I’d sure like to be able to rent/buy a movie today. guess I’ll have to bundle up and got to Lackluster video…….I’ll post a pic of me in the blizzard later…

  • Sweeeeeeet. Lost. :D

  • can you guys get final fantasy advent children complete in HD for me someday thanks psn!!!

  • How ’bout some Spartacus…?? that show would be perfect on the PSN Video Store, especially with the upcoming God of War 3… I know there are a lot of conflicting reviews on the show thus far, but it’s pretty cool and I think more people should check it out.. Tho it is on Netflix for any of those who have that on the PS3, like i do.. just wish Netflix had more HD titles.. and 24… i hate having to watch it on my laptop on Fox, even tho it is free…
I’m honestly not sure why they charge you to watch a TV show that is on free TV anyway..?? to buy, sure… but to just watch it one time, no answers…

  • By Everyone you mean those living in the US right? … even though SCEA runs this blog and it is for Canadian audiences too. The lack of acknowledgement of any progress for 10%+ of your customers is frankly very poor customer service.

It is unfortunate that a brand I’ve spent so much money on and a console that I’m personally responsible for getting into the hands of 10+ families that were looking at the competition has decided that no communication is the best policy.

You’ve lost me and quite a few others to iTunes in Canada now and it really didn’t need to be this way. When you do launch you won’t be getting us back either…which is sad as I’ve alway held SONY in high regard…but the lack of communication from ‘Senior Managers’ has caused SONY untold amounts of revenue for the rest of this product cycle.

Anyway…for my American friends that do get the service…has SONY still nothing to say/no progress to report on getting content tied to our PSN ids. It is ridiculous that people that honor SONY by buying multiple consoles can’t shift their bought content between them. You are shafting your best and cheapest advertisements…happy early adopters that want to spend money with your company.

  • There was a MST3K movie? This I gotta see!

  • I cant wait for Kyle’s blog post when the Canadian Video store finally does come out.

He’ll probably try and pat himself on the back for “giving us what we want” despite the disgracefully innapropriate lengh of time it took and the no doubt lackluster amount of content it will have at the start.

  • Canada Canada Canada

  • @ 17 & 15 & 8 & 6 Thanks guys I didn’t realise iTunes supported canadian money… I’ve been using zip.ca for my movie fix you can order the movies digitally from your PS3 you don’t even have to go out in the snow…

  • CANADA!!!!!! COME ON!! dont you dare tease with lost then not have service to canada! THAT IS CRUEL AND I SAY GOOD DAY TO YOU SIR!

    I SAID GOOD DAY!

  • thank you, thank you, thank you!!! this is exactly what i wanted to see today – LOST on PSN :) :) :) Watching them just once when they air is never enough and PSN’s HD quality is much better than buying them on iTunes.

  • Canada provides half your electricity so therefore most of your Customers get it from US! We get all your movies and music and TV programming so Why Not This? It doesn’t make any sense. I went to the video store only for it to be closed. Because it’s a freaking Blizzard outside. Everything is shut down. Heck My driveway is so full I had to park at a school down a few blocks. It took me an hour to drive to the video store when It could have taken me 2 minutes to buy a video from the PSN….

Now does your Logic make any sense anymore?
    Even Spock would be disappointed.

    Lock Help Me!

  • Lost was awesome this week. Can’t wait to check it out again on HD from the PSN store.

    Right on for that guys!

  • that’s all fine and dandy, but unfortunately i’m still stuck with $70 of PSN gift cards, and cannot access video content thanks to some issue with my ps3 activation for video content (games work ok).

sony customer service basically told me to go eff myself and create a new account. yeah right… give up all the games and content i’ve already bought, all my trophies, and my identity? surely someone should be able to help. :(

  • Grace, any news from the front lines on when Canada will be able to access the video store?

I know all about the mountainous pile of red tape with over the border content, I listened and learned all about it when going through the waiting process for Microsoft to bring it to the 360. I still have hope that Sony is making some progress in this area.

Any info or update you could give? Even just a “were still working on it” would bring a nice fuzzy warm feeling that we have not been forgotten about.

  • Heard a rumour that the Video store won’t be coming to Canada until 2012 apparently Microsoft has an exclusive rights to the Canadain market until then… Is this true?

  • @ssmcp137: You said: “God bless America”, and wrote “USA, USA, USA, USA”.

I suppose it was to discourage people of saying “Canada?”. But Canada is indeed in America… If this was your goal, you should take geography classes, you would learn that Canada is even the biggest contry in America, and to be more precise, of North America, just up the United-States. United-States residents often use the “American” word to describe themself since they usually call the United-Stated: “Unites States of America”. But in reality, resdents should be called “United-Stadians”. Like “Canadians”, “Brezillians”, “Mexicans”, etc.

But anyway, I simply wanted to say that SCEA (Sony computer entertainment America) is not only responsible for the US, but also for Canada, and that is why many Canadians are asking for the same services the US gets.

    For the topic:
The only thing lacking is a way to access our content on all platform, if logged into our account. Because if my PS3 breaks I have to buy my content again… Same if I want to listen to my content on my computer, I have to buy it again. This is really a big problem, and it is surely keeping down the actual potential of the PSN video store.

  • @unbelievable1, You said:
“Heard a rumour that the Video store won’t be coming to Canada until 2012 apparently Microsoft has an exclusive rights to the Canadain market until then… Is this true?”

No this is not true at all. Nobody owns “Contry exclusivity”, this would be impossible. And anyway, Microsoft is not offering a video store in Canada, even Netflix is not offering services in Canada. It’s a problem of language. The Québec Law (a big province of Canada) (law 101), says everything needs to be in english AND french. Even for the entire Canada this makes waves into all Canada. But I cannot understand the problem since all movies have a french version for Québec on day one, and almost all TV Shows have a french version too, so they should simply offer both languages, and that would be it…

But no, nothing is against them. They are simply lazy on this one. If they wanted to work on a Canadian version, it would take a month to finalise everything, it’s extremely easy, they could simply stream/share files from their actual servers, and add the french version on new servers in Québec to be faster.

  • from Wikipedia:

“The Video Store (originally Video Marketplace) is an online service operated by Microsoft that is used to distribute television shows and movies to Xbox 360 owners. The service was launched in USA on November 22, 2006 via Xbox Live. Initial content partners include Paramount Pictures, CBS, TBS, MTV Networks, UFC, NBC, and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. Other movie studios have since supported the service including Lionsgate Films and Walt Disney Pictures as announced at E3 2007.[1] At CES 2008, MGM, ABC, the Disney Channel and Toon Disney announced their support for the service.[2] At the present time, the service is available to users in the United States, CANADA, UK, France, Germany and Japan only.”

  • *sigh* Still no changes to the video DRM? I was hoping at least good prices on content when the video store launched, but find they are at best comparable to superior versions of the videos in terms of price.

But because of the terrible DRM, and general lack of options they seem terrible. I still hold out hope we see some change in the DRM scheme to allow for redownloading the titles, because as it is this has to be one of the worst options for purchasing videos.

  • hey i know that this may not be the spot 4 this post but i just want t2 be heard.lol
i was just wondering when any would have a general idea on or about when we could expect some new maps for COD:MW2 ( call of duty: modern warfare 2)????
i know that i am not the only one who is also wondering the same but i have not heard any1 else ask about as of yet..so i am just wondering if we will see some soon ???? i check every time before i turn the PS3 off for the night & have not seen it on there, but i do see other things being put on.

if some would be so kind as to give me answer or an idea my PS3 I.D. is “evilherbie”
i will be looking for some kinda responce from anyone who may know or have an idea as 2 when.. thks
    ……SONY YOU ROCK……KEEP IT UP……

  • @27
From what Microsoft reps have said, there is/was no exclusive video distribution rights, only that Disney and a select few others were prepared to offer exclusive video content to the 360’s video service, such as behind the scenes footage of their films similar to what is included on DVD/Blu-Ray bonus disks or bonus footage.

Sony owns several major motion picture studios though, so rights to films from their own holdings would be rather easy to bring north of the border.

I’m just looking forward to being able to do more with my PS3, as well as PSP. I got rid of my PSPgo because of lack of many UMD games not being available for download, and with no video service, its simply not a viable purchase in Canada.

The video service coming to Canada would bolster Sony’s grip on both PS3 as well as PSP users and give more incentive to be a Sony gamer.

  • @32….

Well…at least 30 days after Microsoft’s Xbox 360 gets them.

  • PLeaseplease PLEASE! for the love of god and all that is holy PORT FINAL FANTASY X to PSP! Please?

  • o and some kinda partnership with FEARNET would be AWESOME! but as far as this list goes… not bad :)

  • Video game activation and movie activation, how do I access that?? Well, I know how to access it but what is it for?

  • Want this in Canada sooner than later….!

  • It would be good if Sony reconsiders their price strategy with this service.
For 6 dollars i can rent 2 Blu-Ray movies at a local video store. Why a digital version is worth the double?
    It doesn’t make sense…

  • Please release HD versions of the NBA games. I was so excited to know that you guys are staying on top of the great games in the current season. But, when I went to buy them I realized they weren’t in HD. *womp womp*

  • this is pathetic that almost 2 years later, no news for us Canadian for a Video store.

Itunes and the Xbox 360 have it, and you Sony you continue to ignore us.

  • Grace, it might not be part of your job description to engage in conversational maters with the people who respond to posts you make on the playstation blog, but it should be.

I can imagine it is hard for you being almost personally blamed for what content is included in PSN store/video updates.

A dont kill the messenger approach is the current tactic it seems, but the lack of response to those who ask legitimate questions in a calm and reasonable manner are what need to be addressed.

People who ask important questions here in Video as well as in the Store update area, questions which time and time again are ignored.

If there are questions asked that you have no information on, please say as much.

I realise you dont have time with your hectic schedule to answer questions all day long, however, answering a few well written and non-abusive questions will go a long way to, at the very least, let the people know they are being heard.

But please retain professionalism by not closing that window of communication when it is becoming more important than ever in retaining consumers.

  • Good update…yet however, the only problem I can find is that the anime is only in english dub form…

I just wish that when it is purchased then it could have that option to change between english and japanese w/subtitles…

Also, why is it that when I log into my account online, the video content that I purchased is never on my download list? I purchased (not rented) the Robot Chicken Star Wars special and downloaded it, but when I wanted to download it again, I found that it wasn’t on my previous download list…Is it some sort of prevention from sharing it to other psp systems?
