PlayStation Home 1.35 Launching Tomorrow

Jack Buser's Avatar + Posted by Jack Buser on Mar 10, 2010 // Senior Director, PlayStation Now

Hello again Home Community,

I am thrilled to be back on the PlayStation.Blog to share some exciting news. Tomorrow we will be launching PlayStation Home 1.35, a new client update that will include some very significant enhancements that will make your PlayStation Home experience even better.

This update will bring several of the changes that you, the PlayStation Home community, have said are most important to you. Most notably, this update features faster load times, giving you quicker access to PlayStation Home and all the great content within. The new 1.35 update also enhances the login process. Now, once you have launched into PlayStation Home from the XMB, you will be transported directly to a new intuitive navigator, without the need to click through message screens.

PlayStation Home logo

Like much of PlayStation Home, the design of this new navigator is directly based on community feedback on how to improve access to the content used most in PlayStation Home. This streamlined interface features categories to help you quickly move through PlayStation Home and locate friends in just a few clicks.

Categories will include:

  • Favorites: Personalize your own section to make locating your favorite places quick and simple.
  • Personal Spaces: Your clubhouses and personal spaces are now right at your fingertips. The personal spaces you own and the clubhouses you belong to will be viewable in one convenient location.
  • Friends: Finding your friends in PlayStation Home has never been easier. View the current location of your friends in PlayStation Home, and then navigate there to enjoy the action together.
  • Explore: Browse all the spaces PlayStation Home offers. Finding a space that suites your taste and mood has never been easier.
  • Recommend: Keep up with what’s hot in PlayStation Home. This regularly updated category will feature the newest and most exciting additions to PlayStation Home.

Just a reminder that PlayStation Home will not be accessible for a brief period tomorrow as we work the magic on our side to bring you this update. If you have any questions or comments, as always, please drop us a note in the PlayStation Home forums.

With now 12 million users around the world playing games, attending special events, watching videos, listening to music, and meeting new friends, there has never been a better time to join the PlayStation Home community. For those of you that are already part of the party, with tomorrow’s 1.35 update, I think you’ll agree that everything you love about PlayStation Home just got that much better.

Sorry, but the only thing that interests me about PS Home, was what I saw ages ago, and still cannot do in Home. I want to have my friends all hang out at my virtual home space, and be able to play a movie off of my PS3 HDD, on a small widescreen tv in my virtual space, and let everyone gather around and view it on their tv’s in full screen (to fit the full picture of 16:9), so it is like we are all watching the same movie on our sets, and we are all still in my virtual home.

Same goes for stereos and music playing off the HDD in our virtual space homes. The fact that I can’t even have a stereo which plays my own music is just plain sad. Without these types of features, I just do not see much reason to use PS Home. It is just to plain, bare, boring, bland, and silent. I can walk into my walk in closet and experience the same thing really.

Home has a LONG way to go before it appeals to Gamers. Right now, it a sad version of that Second Life type thing. Hardcore gamers do not see Home as a “cool way” to party chat, or to launch party games (like with Warhawk). You guys seriously need to rethink your strategy and make Home much more streamlined and part of the XMB, not just an app that you start from the XMB.

I like ps home.. but it would be nice to have your own music or actually watch one of your movies with a friend

I have a suggestion:

Please make the characters look less like they’ve been invaded by the body snatchers. If they’re standing still, have them shift from foot-to-foot, check their watch, hike up their pants, push their glasses back up their nose, tie their shoe. When you send a message/chat, have them nod and move their hands during the conversation.

Currently they look like the illegitimate love child of a mannequin and a stroke victim. Let’s get some life into those guys!

The faster load times sound great, and if it is what I’m thinking about going to where you want from the XMB then that is also great. Can’t wait for this update cause the load times were a drag.

@mich They’ve shut the servers down every single Thursday morning since HOME launched for 4-8 hours each time or longer. It usually goes down starting at 12:00AM PST. or 3:00AM EST.

hey jack, what about those damn glitchers who ruin every game in home, have you found a way to stop them? because I got tired of it & cursed them out then they reported me. Now I’m banned from the psn because of a few jerk offs. If you haven’t found a way then there’s no reason for me to use home!!! I want to use home but it’s way too stressful!!! ether way I’m banned for defending home. It’s not fair, I just tried to play the games in peace & I get banned!!! I know I’m not the only one this has happened to!!!

Well maybe if I could use home. This has been going on long enough. Make it so that when you turn 18 you are no longer a sub account. I’m getting pretty pissed off. I was 17 when I made my account now I’m 20 and still I’m stuck as a sub account. Fix this issue.

Honestly my main concern is network stability. It is a royal pain in the ass just trying to get the update, then actually being able to log in and stay logged in long enough to gt past the initial message. Otherwise I’d be more active in Home.

Ill Check it Out When I get up before Work to check it out.. I hope its worth the Wait.

I have a Suggestion.. When is our Open Community Voice Chat in HOME coming Back??

Will we Ever see it Come back in HOME??

Please.. it makes it more Lively when you can strike up a conversation with a stranger based off someone talking about the same thing.

Makes ways of making new gaming Friends :D

I just now downloaded the new 1.35 update for Home but what has me on the confused side is according to gameinformer magazine number 204 March 2010. Playstation Home will shut down Home servers on April,1 2010 . Now ironic part would that this is on April fools day and some of you at Sony have sick sense of humor ,but to have it published in a very reliable magazine is kind of confusing. I have recently been a part of Home since December when I got my PS3 and have spent a good chunk of change in Home. If you are shutting down the servers first why have you not informed anyone who is part of your PSN followers ,are you going to give back some PSN credit and last why even do the update

Well this appears to be a step in the right direction. Glad to hear you guys haven’t completely abandoned Home. I always see new rooms or clothes to pay for but I’m still waiting on the initial promises of the TVs and a clubhouse that doesn’t have a membership cap of 35. Both could have quickly made Home more popular that it currently is as I know lots of podcasters, tv shows and small clubs that had high hopes for Home only to find out that the ability just wasn’t there. Hope you guys can get back in the game and get this stuff going soon!

PSHome is exactly what it ssupposed to be a social virtual community. ppl who get mad at the fact that they cant have isolated media consumtion dont understand what Home is and want personal devices for themselves like music and vids. SO WHAT, u cantplay vids and music that everyone else already probably has. Which means ppl that have that complaint most likely arent spending any money like so many millions already are which also means they arent contributing to the progression of Home and have no leg to stand on for wanting anything in return.

I LOVE the new update, everything runs much better.. I was a Sept 2008 closed beta tester, and the loading screen killed home when more objects were bought on my home account. now it’s seamless, the new XMB style is perfect. Exactly what I wanted. I felt this update was long over due. Some of my CB buddies have abandoned home. I hope this new update will bring them back.. Also, what happened to bringing back the public mic’s?? I remeber in the gamer lounge you guys said that it would be worked in within a year.. it’s been that and then some.. I want public mic’s.. I am amazed that you think we can’t control our selves and behave properly and not cuss each other out, I thought thats what the report function was for. Jack Buser, please bring the public voice chat back.. I need it.. also make out TV’s and speakers in home do something other than fill space.. Please make them stream music and video.. PLEASE! I have always wanted to do this in home.. Other than that, home has been upgraded rather well. Mui Mui ship actually loads in 25 seconds and not 5 minutes like it did before the FW update.. I’m also glad the camera switches off and on fast.. Nice work there…

I really don’t see the point of Home. I mean if you like it and use it than by all means fill your boots. It just seems like a waste of time and there isn’t a whole lot to do.

WOW HOME is so much more improved!!! So much faster!!! I thing though, when I am in the theater the videos keep buffering in and out!! That is the only downside right now, other than that much faster!!

I like that we’re now able to queue downloading content from the main screen. However I’d like to see a few more things:

1. Option to auto-queue the entire Playstation Home, to download everything that’s currently available.
2. Option to auto-update all existing content as needed.

This is great news, I was getting annoyed with waiting 5 to 10 minutes to login to Home. If the login process has indeed been streamlined for a quicker login, I may enjoy Home more often. Now if only the Central Plaza, Bowling Alley, Theatre and Mall were all connected as one large area instead of 4 that would be amazing.

It is frozen! Anyone else have this issue and what do I do? This sucks!

I buy a lot of things in the PlayStation home, but what I really like is new back rounds for my place and PlayStation starter screen. Can we get an up date so that the screen back-round can we get an update for a screen saver that can change and we can choose how fast. My girl friend hates my back-round so we had to break up. So I got to see if my new one complaint about the football girl right now.
ps. upload more new movie trailers please everyday. thankx
