  • I’m gonna agree with Stealth on this one…

  • Yeah your right, GrandNooblar I basically did throw away the computer part of the PS3. I did that because I currently don’t use free open source programs like Linux. I didn’t buy a PS3 to use it as a computer, I bought it for video gaming and occasionally viewing movies.

Yeah I probably would take it to court if this was about a feature that I used and liked, but since that’s not the case I’m not going to bother. If you have some kind of online petition then I would gladly sign it since that doesn’t take up time.

  • wouldn’t want to use it to load up firefox, flash and multiprotocol IM convos… an extra computer in case you need it?

  • I’m still just completely baffled that Sony would provide and fully support for these past +3 years (since PS3 launch) the Other OS feature and then decide to take it away just like that from all their millions and millions of loyal and supportive customers.

I’ve been a huge supporter of Sony for the past 30 years and this stunt they’ve pulled really hurts.

I thought I’d never say this but I will now buy a Xbox 360 and support all companies.

Screw loyalty, it gets you no where.

  • Why was my post deleted from yesterday? Are you guys kidding me!?! i simply posted how i wished Other OS would be brought back. I did not swear or did anything that would disagree with the comment policy. What is the point of having the comment box enabled if they cannot even be displayed because they are not in your likings?

  • Why did your comment get erased? Because Sony is ashamed of their own actions, and they’re covering their tracks as best as they can.

And to all the idiots saying, “Take them to court”…give us all a break. You’ll clearly 12-years old and watch too much television.

You don’t just take a billion dollar corporation to court because they took away a feature on your PS3 that you allowed them to do when you signed (but didn’t read) the EULA agreement.

Sony isn’t doing anything illegal (trust me, they have enough lawyers to make sure they aren’t). But they’re doing something slimy and ignorant.

They need to be called out. And thankfully, that’s what thousands of people are doing all over the internet.

Hey guess what? Nobody going to answer now. And they called us Conspiracy Theorist??? Okkkkeeyyyy….

  • @BriS2K

I sort of agree. Not screw loyalty itself but loyalty to sony? sure. I like to keep track of future releases so I have an amazon wishlist. About 30 future releases on the first and second page. All for ps3. Now i’ve added the other console version and will buy based on what I can play with 3.15. Until 3.21 I never considered getting the other consoles version of any multi-plat. Likely my buying decisions won’t make one bit of difference to Sony but they do to me. This also effects any thoughts about purchasing a PS4. Or maybe i’m just getting close to the time when i’ll stop gaming.

  • Every game that’s coming out for PlayStation 3 should have a demo & all the PlayStation 3 demos should but cuts of the final version of the game & come out before the actual game comes out.I believe in try before you buy because nobody likes getting suckered by false representations & pr lies & ends up with a game their not truly satisfied with.

  • the issue again, they can restrict acces to the network to buygames and donwload videos and things like that but they doesn’t have the authority to restrict the online capabilities of games we bougth. just because we don’t want to update, they have the rigth to deny my games and profile on moderm warfare because i pay for that before. that could be a really sweet legal action basis.

  • oh and beware, it wouldn’t be a surprise if later they start releasing upgrades to the games we already own that will require the 3.21 or higher upgrade to workl. of course that would be really a dumb move from sony

  • @arkrf21
Maybe you should take a few typing lessons before taking “sweet legal action.”

  • @GettinWorse:

Yes, you can take a corporation like Sony to court. It is very easy, actually. If you do it individually, you can sue them for usually up to $5,000, depending on the state, without even having a lawyer. They will be forced to send a lawyer to represent themselves and if they don’t, a default judgment will be entered against them.

A class action is a slight bit more involved and you do need a lawyer, usually, but that’s not rocket science. All you need to do is find a lawyer willing to take the case. And that would not be difficult here. I would be surprised if it’s not already in motion.

You don’t sound like you have used the court system before. I have. There’s nothing mysterious about it and large corporations are hardly untouchable.

    Sony,

Please read, I WAS trying to reach out.

Here’s what must be a revolutionary concept to your execs. If you refuse to improve security, and shake things up, rather than taking out OS, consider this. Make PSN, and ALL future games compatible with 3.15. THEN, *stay with me*, have people give up OtherOS by offering features they DO want. Most everyone is already on 3.21, offer those refusing on principal something they want, you have a list on your Share Blog. People want new features, and 99.5% will upgrade for these things. To get the new features you MUST upgrade. So since most everyone wants these, you get everybody but honest Linux users, and maybe a small handful of hardcore hackers to give up the OtherOS. See how that works, you can use carrots to close up your hole for the most part, and still not punish honest linux users and programmers. I honestly think this would solve enough of your problem to make it a nil issue. It would get people like me off of your back. I will even let you at Sony take the credit for the idea. And its a start to repairing your image in my eyes.

But you erase my comments, erase my accounts, this is war…

  • PSN TEAM PLEASE. the feature of a private chat system is a heavy asset we all want. the gods of psn have abandoned us. now there is no hope :( please tell me if ur considering adding this!

  • Ok this may be the wrong place to post this but I could not find any other place. Wouldn’t it be cool if on psn when you got a platnuim trophy you also got an avatar. The avatar would represent the the game you platnuimed, and the avatar you get can not be found or bought; you have to earn it. The point of this is to show your friends and people you meet that you have mastered the game.

Am I the only one who thinks that this is a good idea?

And psn team if you could reply that would be nice.

  • this is what sony make to themselve

    h.t.t.p:/./.w.w.w.p.s.3.n.e.w.s.c.o.m./.P.S.3.-.H.a.c.k.s./.p.s.3.-.h.y.p.e.r.v.i.s.o.r.-.l.v.2.-.g.a.m.e.o.s.-.d.u.m.p.e.d.-.a.n.d.-.p.u.b.l.i.c.l.y.-.l.e.a.k.e.d./

  • in game cross chat NOW! its been too long!!!! Cmon Sony! We are the ones who have battle day and night with all those 360 fans to show them ps3 its the best out there! that sony cares about consumers unlike ur competition! But then u make an update to take away an unique feature? an update that doesn’t bring anything new or good to our consoles? WHY?! sigh…. we are writing in vain anyway….

  • Sony, make.believe we care about consumers.

  • People saying it is legal should learn the law of bait and switch. Sony didn’t add the os as bonus it was a selling feature and now they have removed it.

So it’s not legal to bait someone with a feature and then after you buy it you take it away. Good thing Sony doesn’t make cars as we can all live with out Power Steering or power brakes.

Sony took property of my hard drive I own the HD I have in my PS3.

  • personally i don’t care about the loss of the other OS.

What bothers me is that since the update i have lost all online gaming and from searching the net i am not the only one!!

  • So still think all the customers who pay yoru salary are “conspiracy theorists”?

Get a clue!! people vote wif their feet and money. and we have been running not walking to your competitors. If you want to keep your job and your paying customers you know what you need to do. Youve been told in no undertain times many thousands of times in the past few weeks. Don’t like it? tough!! you’ve been given your marching orders by those who pay you, which is us your customers.

iN SHORT GET OVER IT SONY

  • Sony… Just restore the OtherOS functionality we paid for and STOP hiring idiots that would come up with a downgrade as an anti-piracy protection.
