Hi everyone, in our continued effort to provide the best, most comprehensive entertainment experience possible, we’ll be adding a few new features to PlayStation 3 (PS3) via the latest system software update, which is a mandatory update and will be available shortly. Most notably, you’ll see some new sorting options within Trophies that make it easier to claim bragging rights among your friends on PlayStation Network.
- Trophy enhancements –- Now you can more easily sort trophies in the [Trophy Collection] and [Comparing Trophy] sections. Sorting can be done with [Trophy Collection] in the [Game Category] and also when comparing trophies with your friends in the [Friend Category]
- Trophy Folder (Title List) can be sorted by game name/ by title according to the date in which you earned your last trophy (ascending/descending)
- Add-on list (Group list) can be sorted by original/the date in which you earned your last trophy (ascending/descending)
- Trophy list can be sorted by original/trophy name/grade/date of obtaining the trophy (ascending/descending)
In addition, this update preps the PS3 system for some upcoming new features, including 3D stereoscopic gaming, which is coming soon to PS3, in time for the launch of Sony’s 3D BRAVIA TVs.

What rock did you crawl out under from ?
Geohot was not the first to hack the Ps3, it was another dude for like over +2½-3 years ago that used an buffer overflow from the GPU hack via *nix and he also set up a proof of concept unit that loaded .iso files from another *nix unit.
Sony pissed their pants and patched their Fw so you still could run *Other-OS* but not use 100% of the GPU…
Geohot used this approach in his attempts and other back-doors.
And NO the Ps3 is not the only unhackable unit, its just a little bit harder to maintain a software that changes so often :D
Nevertheless you cant go against the European law Directive 1999/44/EC and remove a function that was shipped with the consoles from start if customers has use of it and buys the unit just for that and also with that support.
@22 – there IS an option to hide/turn off trophy notifications I’m sure. Isn’t there?
@42 – last update wasn’t optional. it was mandatory. if you didn’t install it you’re system is offline. I spent a week offline fuming over it. same with this update.
speaking on the topic why IS this update mandatory. i mean as stupid as it is to remove an entire feature I don’t agree with it being mandatory but I can see why. This.. trophy folders? why is THIS mandatory?
as a request I too would like to see alias’ even if it’s clunky to enter in I don’t care you’d only have to do it once.

Deleting trophies would be nice because i rented street fighter and earned just one trophy!
this thin is sh%t my dualshock 3 controllers are not working wireless WTF??!!!! only when i connected with usb cable, what is going on sony??? is real is not working, never had a problem before, i tried anything and is not working, only with usb cable, WIRELESS IS NOT WORKING ON THE CONTROLLERS. Actually, Sony is the bigger company with more money — that’s why they don’t need to listen to their customers.
1. When will you be adding the RESUME ability to downloads ?
2. Why don’t movies pick up where you stopped them, when you turn the PS3 off ?
So far I’m not impressed with the PS3… It’s no better than the PSP when it comes to functionality.

Because they want you to agree to the NEW tos, which basically says we can do whatever we like and whenever we like to YOUR machine.
Stop messing around and see to it that you guys update more Codecs and media tanks so we wont have to get an aditional unit to play our movies or music in our homes.
I would love if i could toss out my Popcorn Hour C-200 unit and use my Ps3 as the center of media unit at home.

And yes being able to listen and evaluate what their customers wants and needs is a great way to make good business.
I would hate to send an invoice to Sony for having to decipher data from a *nix system that was locked with a secure and unique deciphering key.

It’d be nice if Sony would get around to updating the way I view and utilize media server files, particularly music. They made an decent update to photo viewing, but unless you’ve created a playlist, it’s a pain in the ass navigating media shared music. They need to clean that up. I also think that they need to add a bit of functionality there as well. I understand the the PS3 is basically streaming music from my PC’s shared library, but there’s no reason for there to still be such a long load time between songs when the PS3 could easily do a bit of pre-loading for whatever the next song in the playlist is.
Been asking for these for a while now… C’mon Sony, get with it.

I want to delete games Trophys of a game I just don’t like case and point is DiRT 2 I have 65% of them but hate the game for the fact that is not 720* trun for the steering wheel so I want to get rid the game saves and the Trophys if you can earn tthem you should also discard (to get rid of especially as useless or unwanted junk) them.
Is it just me or did this firmware update cause trophy comparisons to require more work?
Yes, all the games are listed alphabetically now. However, before the update all games in which you and a friend had trophies were listed at the top, and all games with trophies you didn’t have were at the bottom. Now you have to search through every game in the trophy list to see who has trophies in what. Granted, this isn’t a big thing but Sony actually made the trophy comparisons worse with this update it seems.
I wonder how many people are going to think hackers are “cool” when one of them decides to shut down our power grid? Who gets the blame in this scenario? People like Geohotz have every right to do what they do, but they also have to make sure that they are being responsible for their actions. Period. The end.
I like that guy’s are busy trying to update the PS3 with better functions but come on focus on more important things. 1. Better chat system i.e. in-game party & private chat. 2. Give us alot (and i mean a 500+) more avatars. Theres only avatars for MAG and LBP. Come one what do you take your loyal customers for??? Chumps?
has anyone ever connectd to a diffrent server like the uk’s can you tell me why thay have a better ps store and get tv and raido on there ps3 and we dont and all the hackers are doing is pointing out the flaws in the system i think its a good thing if it were me i would fix the flaw not destroy it

Please update the Internet Browser to accommodate so of the newer Adobe Flash applications. It would be nice if sites like southparkstudios were able to be view on my TV via PS3. Please you guys owe us this for removing the ability to use YDL.

For the love of god PLEASE (I’m on the floor begging!) put mkv codec support the next patch so we can play those off media servers. It can’t be that hard to put in there and it would make TONS of people happy.

good update but i agree with alot of people when i say that the browser needs updating because you cant play some flash videos off of alot of sites also some more channels for the tv option would be great
Well if Microsoft can be sued so they have to offer Other Browsers and if Apple can sue Adobe for Flash and the other way around Sony could get sued so they have to offer Other OS and or Other browser support.
The browser on the Ps3 sucks big time, thats why i run *nix and surf on the Internet.

So the 3d update is Just for Sony Bravia’s or will it work on any TV? If it wont work on any old TV then this is a useless update in my opinion. Make 3D work for all TV’s. It’s not like everyone has been using Bravias or 120Hz TV’s to watch it on in the past. Stereoscopic glasses usually means any tv as well…. Clarification please….
