PS3 3.30 System Software Update

Eric Lempel's Avatar + Posted by Eric Lempel on Apr 21, 2010 // VP, Sony Network Entertainment

Hi everyone, in our continued effort to provide the best, most comprehensive entertainment experience possible, we’ll be adding a few new features to PlayStation 3 (PS3) via the latest system software update, which is a mandatory update and will be available shortly. Most notably, you’ll see some new sorting options within Trophies that make it easier to claim bragging rights among your friends on PlayStation Network.

  • Trophy enhancements –- Now you can more easily sort trophies in the [Trophy Collection] and [Comparing Trophy] sections. Sorting can be done with [Trophy Collection] in the [Game Category] and also when comparing trophies with your friends in the [Friend Category]
    • Trophy Folder (Title List) can be sorted by game name/ by title according to the date in which you earned your last trophy (ascending/descending)
    • Add-on list (Group list) can be sorted by original/the date in which you earned your last trophy (ascending/descending)
    • Trophy list can be sorted by original/trophy name/grade/date of obtaining the trophy (ascending/descending)

In addition, this update preps the PS3 system for some upcoming new features, including 3D stereoscopic gaming, which is coming soon to PS3, in time for the launch of Sony’s 3D BRAVIA TVs.

Let us know your thoughts and as always, we look forward to your feedback.

“in our continued effort to provide the best, most comprehensive entertainment experience possible” if this statment true why did you get rid of ps2 backword combatibility, and other O.S. those where really good features, a few of the resoans why I got the ps3. and now that there gone I feel that my ps3 has droped in value significantly. Its like going to a store and buying a pack a cigarettes and the store clerk tells you you can only buy 5 cigs out of the 25, pack nice job sony.

(Or Google search “What the PS3 Class Action Lawsuit Means For You”)

In other words, the Sony Defence Force members on here may want to opt-out as soon as it’s possible, otherwise they might accidentally end up getting some free games, money and/or Other OS out of this.

(Assuming they have a fat PS3, that is).

To those complaining that Dragon Age: Origins doesn’t work with 3.30: Buy a PC if you want to play Dragon Age! The PS3 is mostly for JRPGs and other genres, so Sony can take away Dragon Age support if they want. It says so in the Terms of Service!

(Just kidding). Anyway, if the Other OS class-action suits succeed, maybe Sony will be forced to respect their customers a bit in the future, and will actually listen to problems like the DA:O issue. We can hope, at least.

Sorry for leaving so many comments in a row, but the third Other OS class-action was just filed:

It’s interesting to see our comments from here on the blog being used in a legal document.

Xamindar’s probably right, but try calling their support line anyway. Nobody from Sony will help you here.

The update is good but I’v got a few problems. You guys took away other os and a few music options. Before you could listen to music while useing the web browser but now you can’t. When you go to your music it prompts you to exit the browser. I always would listen to music while I use internet on my ps3. Also, it does the same when you try to browse through your music whilst a track is playing. I also agree with everyone else, the browser is slow and has problems with youtube and google (only minor problems on google). And track down who keeps sending those bogus ims about sending to people and getting $35 in the psn store.

I’d like the ability to delete trophies from particular games and hide in-game trophy alerts, ala Heavy Rain.

So what?!?!? I WANT “OTHER OS” FEATURE BACK!!!

We all payed for that feature!!!!

Having 3D support is useless, since is just going to push people to buy sony BRAVIA 3D TVs…won’t do any good to the average user!

What is wrong with you people?!!?!?!?

It would be fun to see what a lawyer has to say about what sony did…if the “other os” feature was part of the PS2 deal as the network support I thnk they cannot take that away.

You might think that firmware upgrade are not mandatory and you could reject them, buy they are not.

If you want to keep using your PS3 on the netwok (other payed feature) yu have to upgrade.

Now is that legal at all? Buying a good is a sort of contract, what happens if a good is advertised with features that are later o removed?

Let’s put some money togheter and hire a lawyer for support…haaahha..just kidding… ;)

Sony has no intention of acting in good faiit on their downgrades in the future as they are still ignoring or worse yet ourtright harassing any & all who complain. With Losses of $441 in the fiscal year, the SCEE division so to take a big hit in the european financial crisis and scea their only remaining profitible division things are not looking good for sony. Alieanating customers of their single solitary profitable division, SECEA is a very bad idea a gain. Management should place an urgent conferance call to HQ in japan to learn what a window seat is as they’ll find temselves sitting there. with any luck

Since the last update I can no longer stream the NBC Nightly News from http://www.nightly.msnbc.com from the browser. I would like to be able to watch the world news streaming from this website for free. I don’t mind paying for content, but think news should remain free. Our democracy is only better with an educated citizenship.

So i’m still om 3.15, when will the gheyness end? I really thought this would have been cleared up by now. It’s not like I use PSN much or even the PS3 for that matter, It only matters to me on the basis of not being able to use the store. I think we just need to all agree that as a company, Sony has absolutely no idea about their clients needs and wants. The attitude hasn’t changed since PsOne, I might sound like an old bastard, But sony to me are still New to the Gaming Market.

Nice link.

I’m also still on 3.15. At least I’ve saved a lot of money on PSN Store purchases, this way.

Study finds that most people buy the PS3 as a Blu-ray movie player:
techradar . com / news/gaming/blu-ray-is-still-the-primary-reason-to-buy-ps3-690199

So according to some people’s logic, Sony would be fully justified in removing all gaming functionality from the PS3 if there was a chance that it might someday lead to piracy. I mean, it’s primarily a Blu-ray player, right? If you want to play games, buy a PC or Wii or something.

Wow, freakin great update :/ That is so awesome that there is 3D available now for all of the zillions people who can and will use it right now. ha, Im sure all of the people who even flinch thinking about getting an expensive 3D set right now or even in the next year considering their cost, will still be a fraction of the people who would want and would still be using Linux on their PS3.
And as for the trophy update… Whoopeee! Another MORE useless and pointless feature on my system.

Great Job Sony, at sucking!

Secure and fix your product, and bring us back Other OS danggit!

Oh, and why I’m here…

How about either

1: Hire some people who know what hey are doing so they can fix the browser to allow more enriched content, like IDK, FLASH!
or
2: Allow Apps to be installed! Ya know, stuff like a youtube app, and a skype app? just basic crap that makes having an expensive “high tech” piece of electronics more flexible and seem like its worth it. After all, it “does everything” doesnt it?

I mean seriously, even as retarded as apple has been, allowing things on their overpriced crap, i almost like them for having the partial ability to sweeten your device the way you like it for YOU. Imagine the application developments people would have going for the PS3. Of course it would havta come with grandaddy Tretton cherry picking what should go on or not. lol

Whatever… just a cruddy pipe dream :/

OTHER OS!
